I made this video because a friend of mine added me as an admin for her Facebook page for anime and KPOP and this is one of my few contributions. I made this shortly after reading the chapter because I thought 7!!'s "Orange" would suit the scene. I also put up audio from the anime and they're cut because the subs were different from the manga translations and since I don't speak Japanese, I only put the audio that matched the translations.

Grappler Baki: The Stitchy Review

I, like many others, have seen those infamous clips and "WTF is Baki even about" memes. I finally decided to take a look at the source for myself. WTF is Baki? Well, it's peak, I'm afraid.

I was once a hater of Itagaki Sensei's artstyle, I thought Baki was so ugly. "How can people stand to look at it?" I would ask myself. I am extremely happy to report, however, that I now have no choice but to stan my king and Baki's art. I think Baki has fantastic and engaging art. Baki's girlfriend, his landlady, his mother, ect, they all look like regular people. Only the guys that fight and have dedicated themselves to being "the strongest" have these horrificly muscular bodies. It makes a lot of sense to me and makes everything else pretty easy to swallow.

Each character is also pretty destinct which is also fantastic. I happened to really fall in love with the cast. I brought up my character designer friend in my Mashle review, but I was discussing Baki with her earlier today. She correctly noted that hight difference is also really important and Baki has it in spades. Yujiro Hanma is like the strongest dude ever to exist and there are actually a few characters taller than or almost as tall as he is. Baki himself is also pretty short, which is great. It makes everyone stand out more and helps the silhouette of the characters. Baki also looks like he really is a 17 year old boy! Another plus in a world where I am supposed to believe that Kiyomaro Takamine (Zatch/Gash Bell) is a middle schooler! He also has a great personality, a fun protagonist that almost seems out of place in such a violent story.

Grappler Baki is the most "normal" of the series, from what I can tell. All the big memes aren't going to be found here, unfortunately. That being said, this manga is still absolute nonsense. There's biting and ripping and breaking and just incredibly unbelievable violence. Baki characters feel like cockroaches! Baki himself takes a ridiculous amount of damage and just is fine at the end of the day sometimes. It really reminds me of the old brutal Mortal Kombat 9 x-ray moves, like Sub-Zero freezing your stomach and crushing it, before just continuing the fight like that didn't happen to you. The fights are so brutal and engaging to watch. Even when the side characters were going to fight, I often found myself excited to see how it went. It's just a good old time.

If you've never read or watched Baki, I don't want to give too much away from the plot (MAKE SURE YOU DO SOME RESEARCH! It really took me a minute to figure out what order best to consume the story as a whole. There's like 5 or 6 Baki mangas and two of them have the same name). I will say that I was really locked in the whole time, though! UNFORTUNATELY, this also has the bit where it loses that perfect 10/10 score. I will tell you that Grappler Baki has maybe four important female characters and unfortunately they are pretty lacking. They really don't get to do too much, Baki's girlfriend especially doesn't do much.

Most of our story revolves around a tournament, which is also a big plus. What arcs does everyone love? Naruto's Chunin Exams, Yu Yu Hakusho's Dark Tournament and, Dragon Ball's Tenka'ichi Budōkai, Yu-Gi-Oh's Battle City! The people love tournament arcs! We yearn for the tournament! Even Oda stuck one in One Piece during Dressrosa! A main plot that revolves around a tournament, what more could we ask of Grappler Baki?

Another thing I believe Grappler Baki handles well is what I'm going to call, "The Vegeta Problem." I call it The Vegeta Problem because he is always the first character I'll think of in the context. I define it as: introducing a character that is supposed to be so strong and intimidating but usually gets whipped before the main character gets to take his turn and beat the bad guy. Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu. Since Baki's villain is Yujiro Hanma, and he's said to be untouchable and just a ridiculously impossible standard, it never feels like someone is weak when they lose to him. Even people who lose often put up decent fights. Baki is very good at making fights really edge of your seat, which is refreshing!

In conclusion, Grappler Baki is a fantastic read. It has everything someone would want from a manga mainly about fighting. A ridiculous ride that grabs you and makes you really want to see where the twists and turns take the story!

Note: Wrote this out of spite towards AI writing. Vacantverse takes place in the new Professor Layton title's setting (NWOS). Word count: 426

'Every puzzle has an answer and is solvable.'

That was a lie. Luke knew this one puzzle that he was having a difficult time to solve. He has yet no answer to this puzzle.

'I'm not interested in romantic relationships. Puzzles and mysteries are the only things I loved.'

That was a huge lie. Big time. Luke knew he had been lying to himself. Only his mentor, Layton, knew the truth about his feelings for a certain someone.

Since Kiyomaro Takamine came to Steam Bison, Luke has been feeling anxious. Kiyomaro was not only obviously older and more experienced in detective work, but he was Suzume's ex-boyfriend.

When Luke learned about Suzume's dating history with Kiyomaro, he was extremely bitter with her for not telling him about her past relationships. Giving her the cold shoulder, Luke refocused on the cases that were irrelevant to Suzume's missing father, who suspiciously still hasn't been found.

Suzume has taken a hint and did solo investigations without him or Layton. And Luke knew why she did; she was the older one. She should know better than to deal with juvenile issues. She had avoided confronting Luke about his sudden change of attitude towards her.

Jealously.

Despair.

Those emotions hit Luke like a couple of bricks. No puzzle would ever replace the deep love he has developed for Suzume.

Luke despised Kiyomaro alone for dating Suzume before he could.

'I love you. I really love you.'

Luke wanted to say those words to Suzume. He desired to be more than her friend, but the four years and seven months of age gap between him and Suzume hindered those feelings of his.

Luke was fourteen years old, barely starting his teenage years. Suzume was nineteen years old, about to finish her teen years. He'd be starting his first year in high school this August. Suzume'd be in her second year at her university in the upcoming spring in her home country.

Luke has a zero chance of having his feelings reciprocated.

He knew too damn well, and yet he didn't want to give up on his feelings.

He was very determined to solve that one complicated puzzle; Suzume's heart.

Luke really wanted to know how she really felt about him. Deep down, Luke hoped Suzume felt the same towards him.

In the end, Luke may be a gentleman and an apprentice of a famous one he admired for years, but in reality, he's just a teenage boy, mistaking his infatuation for love, and teenagers would go extreme to get their affection noticed.

Traverse Thoughts #2

Next year (2025) will be the 10th anniversary of Traverse.

Traverse originally started as Data Squad AU in 2015. I've forgotten the exact month and date through.

Over the years, I've written, rewritten, and scrapped ficlets/drabbles based on Traverse. To this day, I haven't started the final (multi-chapter) version of Traverse. The cross is currently on the backburner status. I do think about the CrossAU when I see Digimon-related stuff sometimes. I've written drabbles/ficlets for the CrossAU in recent years.

So, why is Traverse on the back burner?

It's simple really. I lost my interest in a certain crossover ship that is essential for the crossAU. While I do think about the crossover ship once as a whole, I don't feel a thing towards the said Cross-Ship anymore. Maybe if I rewrite the crossover ship, I'd regain some affection for the ship, but I think I'm still too traumatized from a certain drama to give the crossover ship a second chance.

There are too many canon characters

One more reason why Traverse is in the backburner status. I honestly have no idea what to do with the rest of the canon characters. Sometimes, I wanted to scrap some canon characters from the DATS agents list and only write the ones who are relevant to the story plot. I haven't decided which canon characters I'd scrapped from Traverse. Knowing myself, I may keep all of the canons in the DATS agents list and figure out whate to do with them.

Marcus/Masaru's and Yoshino's (Digimon Data Squad/Savers) main partners.

The reason why I didin't mention Thomas/Tohma because it should be obvious; Suzume/Suzy (Konjiki No Gash Bell/Zatch Bell!) is his main partner throughout the events of Traverse (With a few expections in certain arcs) so, they are permanently partners.

However, in Marcus's and Yoshino's cases, was more difficult to decide.

In the early development, Marcus's partner was Mikoto Misaka (A Certain Magical Index) and she was paired with a Coronamon. However, in her canon, Mikoto used electricity as her esper power. This alone bothered me because Coronamon was a fire-type Digimon and Mikoto wouldn't be a suitable match with Coronamon. I was thinking about giving her a Elecmon whose mega form would be Jupitermon who was a electricity-type Digimon.

The second choice for Marcus's partner was Nagisa Misumi (PreCure), but I was too used to Mikoto as Marcus' partner to switch to Nagisa. Nagisa would also be paired with Coronamon

Recently, I thought of Mariko Nakamura / Marylou Yamada (Konjiki No Gash Bell/Zatch Bell) as Marcus's partner and Coronamon's human partner. Mariko is Suzume's best friend in the Gash Bell canon. I kinda do like the idea of Suzume and Mariko working in the same DATS branch. Suzume's Dianamon and Mariko's Apollomon become fused into GraceNovamon during the final arc of Traverse.

Yoshino's partner was much simpler choice. She was paired with Mikage Shiraishi (JewelPet Sunshine). Mikage would be pair with a FanBeemon.

Recently, I considered replacing Mikage with Kiyomaro/Kiyo Takamine (Konjiki No Gash Bell/Zatch Bell). Kiyomaro would be paired with Elecmon. But, this idea alone is well, unfavorable in my opinion; Kiyomaro was originally a "rogue" Digimon tamer who opposed the DATS during the events in the Cross Wish Arc.

So, Mikage was pretty much the only option to be Yoshino's partner.

How about a Traverse reboot? Would Traverse be scrapped?

I did consider a Traverse reboot, but I haven't decided yet. I haven't even started the original. The only circumstance I'd scrapped Traverse would be when I'd lose complete interest in Digimon.
