Daily Instrument — Taiko
The taiko is a traditional Japanese drum dating back centuries used for religious ceremonies and feudal troops. It is a wooden barrel with an animal skin wrapped over its open top, struck with two wooden sticks called bachi. Taikos are a diverse instrument with a plethora of types, sizes ranging from a diameter less than 12 inches to even 4.8 meters long.

Taiko drums, an important part of Shinto ritual may be far more complicated than you realize. I'll admit that I had no idea how much went into building one of these drums.

So my taiko group, Harisen Daiko, just had our largest performance of the year today and the live stream recording is already available to watch! We debuted "Shunpuu" by Kodo. We also played a bunch of Bear McCreary song covers, it was awesome. Here, have the link to see for yourself!

Valentine's Day - 1
Sen and I went out today. He's really good at arcade games for some reason, so we went to play Taiko and some air hockey! His score in Taiko was insane... I guess that's why 王(king) is a radical in his name. Meanwhile, I'm named after some silly artsy things...

This song reminded me of something from my long-forgotten past.
… I really freaking love the taiko drum!
