Thank you thank you, and apologies for the time it's taken to come back to this! Have a snippet:

"Really, it cuts better if you leave it a couple hours, but it tastes so good when it's hot and fresh." It's the eagerness in Dream's posture, the bright interest in those blue eyes that decides him. "So let me just—" He folds a clean towel over his hands, takes the hot loaf and breaks a chunk off, waves it about a bit to help it cool and then hands it to Dream. And maybe the fact that as far as he knows the last time Dream ate anything was that caramel macchiato three days ago, before this whole magically-married thing happened, has some bearing on his impatience to get the man fed, as well.

last movie / tv show i watched: cells at work with my family but the anime. before that it was one ep of the new tokyo mew mew, and before that it was luca.

spicy / savory / sweet: spicyyyyy 헐 savory good too. i only like my sweets best with some other bitter/sour flavor with it for the most part

relationship status: stomach full of baked potato treating me good and right rn

From the selkie-verse fic I'm still trying to whip into shape:

H "Human food is so peculiar," Dream says then, a little crease appearing in his brow that Hob finds disproportionately adorable. "In the sea, we hunt. We eat what we catch. There is no fixing or preparing or making foods from other foods."

"Huh. Never thought about that, but, uh, suppose there really wouldn't be!" Hob laughs a little, puts the scored loaf into one of the dutch ovens and turns the other out of its banetone onto more parchment paper.

O "Okay, well, the heat of the oven and the moisture in the dough are gonna make steam, which also builds pressure. So the trick is to also score the side of it, like so—" He demonstrates, slicing neatly nearer the bottom of the loaf, deeper than the decorative scoring. "That way, the steam that builds up while it bakes can escape out this way instead of potentially bursting the heart design."

Dream looks as though he's taking copious mental notes, like he'd be scribbling furiously if he had paper and pencil.

Can selkies write? Read? Do they have waterproof selkie books under the sea?

= "You just like me for my rugged filthiness," Hob says, a tease to keep his head in the right place—there's still no sense getting attached, after all.

Dream regards him haughtily, one eyebrow lifting. "I am quite sure I would enjoy you equally as much cleaned up and dressed up, that I might wine and dine you, take you home to my bed for an evening."

Hob almost, almost detects a hint of vulnerability threading the words and grins, a little pang of tenderness tugging helplessly behind his chest. "Think so, do you?"

"Would you like to test my theory?" There is something both hesitant and eager underneath the casual tone, and Hob's heart trips a little as that tug grows stronger.

"Why, Mr. Atelíotes, are you asking me out? On a proper date?"

"Perhaps." It's equal parts caginess and coy teasing, and Hob is forced to admit that he's smitten despite himself.

"Well." He grins, dialing it up to his most charming. "Rumor has it I'm excellent company whether my dick's involved or not. And while a standard dinner date may not be as fantasy-worthy as getting plowed by the studly mechanic in his shop, I think we could still have a good time." He's showing his hand a bit, gently calling Dream on the fantasy fulfillment that has obviously been going on here, but what's life without a little risk? Especially when the potential reward is so very worth it?

"You are very confident of your own appeal," Dream replies, mouth turning up at one corner in a way that tips over from 'cautious' to 'amused'. And if Hob's not mistaken, there's a hint of pink blushing over his porcelain complexion.

He grins. "Am I wrong, though?"

"…No," Dream decides, after a long moment of deliberation, and Hob steps closer to him, dares to touch his face affectionately.

"Why don't you pick me up here at seven tomorrow night. Tell me exactly how posh I should dress, and we'll see where it goes?" He leans in, presses his lips softly to Dream's.

Dream hums into it, pleased, and squeezes his bicep gently before pulling away. "Very well. Seven, tomorrow night. I will make us a reservation and text you the dress code?"

Hob smiles, an effervescent sort of happiness bubbling up inside him. "Sounds perfect. Phone, love?" =

Fifteen years old Macca vs 22 years old Macca lol. I was a lot angsty in my teenager years, didn't accept any bullshit and was completely terrified of acting silly lol. And, on top of that, I was letting my natural hair grow without straightening it anymore. So yeah, teenager years were a special kind of hell. But I mellowed out over the years, learned to let myself joke more, appear more silly and enjoy life more. My hair isn't as long as the one in the pic (YET), but the smile and everything else is as true as it can get. I actually went to my first concert ever with that exact outfit!!! So, yeah, I think I changed a lot over the years.

1. Faves of the year

sidenote, but I like that some of these tagmemes ask for best books, and some for favorites, because those are very different things. so answering here for books that were maybe not absolute best quality, but personal favorites:

Necrobane: I just really like this grumpy necromancer star student grimly dragging herself around fifty different subplots in a tiny village. Also major props for her fucking up her ankle while running in the very first chapter, and then it continuing to be a problem for the rest of the book, including more and more dangerous magical healing

The Fortunate Fall: a truly excellent cyberpunk novel from the 90s (recently republished) that justifies the entire subgenre to me. Some parts of it have aged less well, but it does really feel dated except in that it's a style of book I don't see much. Major props to how it handles queerness, much of the plot and themes center around the protagonist being a lesbian. I also loved the language of it so much that I ended up reading the prologue out loud to multiple people.

Those Beyond the Wall: followup to The Space Between Worlds, and I think a much richer and deeper followup to it (and I already liked the first one!). This one really dug into the pseudo-feudal gang structure established previously, and has some nice twisty relationships (mostly platonic) at the center

The Tainted Cup: this is basically Sherlock Holmes in a biopunk version of the setting of Attack on Titan. This is I think where the author shines: a fun and unusual setting and a plot-driven narrative (previously heists, now mystery).

Backwards to Oregon: it turns out that "historical romance involving a butch woman crossdressing, an arranged marriage, and they have kids from one place or another" is exactly my combination of tropes, and also so highly specific I'm genuinely surprised I've seen it in multiple places.

9. Compels Me Though: Okay, maybe not all of it made sense, but you had a great time anyway

I reread/finished Django Wexler's Shadow Campaigns series, which is secondary world fantasy with demons and magic etc but also mostly the campaigns of napoleon. The main issue is that there's essentially two levels of plot running (military fiction and demon magic), and they don't always fit together properly. I've seen people complain about the military campaign plotlines, which is unfortunate because I thought those were the best parts of the series, and the last book kinda drops them to focus on the magic.
