@deerkotah remember you can use yourself as a reference! when i'm doing tricky unique drawings, sometimes i'll take and reference multiple pictures of myself in a mirror because i can't get both arms into the pose at one time -- because one arm needs to hold my phone lol

at the last place i lived, i didn't have a full body mirror, so i... sometimes even stood on a bathroom counter to get the legs and hips of a pose XD i just used multiple photos and scrolled back and forth between what i needed in a given moment.

if a pose is too involved to take a photo of myself, i sometimes have the opportunity to ask someone to do the pose for me, or i just do the pose myself while looking at and feeling how my body is spread while doing reference stick/box figure sketches in that pose. (that last one is a bit advanced, so it might not help all artists, and i know i'm not myself skilled enough for it to always be enough and still often need to look up additional references, altho it's a helpful start)

outside those, there are stock reference projects people have, like AdorkaStock (official site, Patreon, tumblr, DeviantArt) and JookPubStock (official site, Patreon, tumblr, DeviantArt)

AdorkaStock's site lets you browse by a good variety of categories:

and you can search both group's DeviantArt galleries with descriptions like "sad," and AdorkaStock even further made this post with a list of many categories they have on DeviantArt (they used the name SenshiStock when that post was made)

...also, while gathering these links, i discovered AdorkaStock's site has a "gives you a random pose" page, https://www.adorkastock.com/sketch/

and i got this POTENTIALLY FANTASTIC Lucifer pose when it first loaded XD

there are other similar sites out there too that you can search for (just discovered nyxnaiastock while on JookPubStock's tumblr page), but hopefully "you can make your own references + links to three stock sites" is a good starting point! good luck!!!

...okay wait, a few quick tips on using gendered reference photos:

(there's a LOT more nuance than what i'm about to say, but this can work a lot of the time depending on the people/characters being portrayed and if an artist's not doing something like a photo realistic painting)

a lot of the time when you're drawing characters who aren't wearing skintight clothes, it can be pretty easy to alter a female reference to a male and vice versa. adjust breast size and shape as necessary, (for drawing men:) broaden shoulders and/or make sure the hips aren't wider than the shoulders, and play with how pronounced of a curve there is from the waist to the hip and where the "angle change" of the curve is. (looking up extra references can be helpful. i often reference the photos from this post to get ideas of different builds, but sometimes i literally just google stuff like "nude male front view reference" or whatever)

often, you'll see art tips like "women are more round and men are boxier," "make softer 'corners' on women than men," and "men have more pronounced muscles," but i prefer to decide that sort of stuff on a case by case basis from the personality, presentation, or backstories of characters. admittedly, if a character isn't looking like the gender you want, sometimes playing with those visual stereotypes can get you closer to what you're hoping for

Okay so I could’ve sworn you posted about this but I scrolled back a while on your blog to be sure and I can’t find it???? Anyways I saw this post about Vaggie’s wings regrowing and looking different than before, which led to the theory that Luci had his wings cut off as well. And I have such a Specific Vision in mind for an angsty drawing about that bc I’ve gotten back into it but for the LIFE OF ME I cannot find a decent ref and I also don’t remember the last time I drew a man so I’m not confident enough to do it from imagination
