hello! I’m not a Jewish person (ethnically or religiously), but I was wondering if you know of any ways that I can help Jewish people right now? Like if you know of any donation programs or volunteer work or food drives or anything of the sort that I could do to help? I want to help fight antisemitism and help Jewish people beyond simply spreading awareness on Instagram, but I’m not exactly sure how or where to start. This is a very dumb question, I’m so sorry, you can ignore this if you want

(CONT'D) also, I have another question, I’m so sorry To preface this question, I’d like to say that I’m a very stupid individual who knows absolutely nothing about anything. So the question is, do you have any book or article recommendations that showcase Jewish people’s experiences, values, perspectives, etc. Like for example, are there any books written from the perspective of an Israeli/jewish person who had moved from wherever they were to the state of Israel in 1948 (I apologise if this is a horrible example, I just know absolutely nothing about anything and everything, but I’m open to learning)

Neither of your questions are dumb, and you don't need to be sorry! You're not stupid and I hope you can be as kind to yourself as you have been to me and my community in your questions.

I was wondering if you know of any ways that I can help Jewish people right now?

Truly the very best thing you can do to support Jews at this time is routinely check in on us, speak up for us, and correct misinformation or antisemitism if you see it happening. This means not running away if your Jewish friends mention two antisemitic experiences they've had in one week. This means adding a media bias/fact check link when someone sends you antisemitic propaganda from Al Jazeera. This means saying "Hey. That doesn't help Palestine. That just hurts Jews," when someone's "activism" veers too far in the wrong direction. That means that you don't just shout ceasefire now without also acknowledging that Hamas and Hezbollah also need to cease firing. This means making sure your donations and your links to donations go to sources that do not fund Hamas, like Anera. It also means making sure your donations for the I/P conflict support interfaith efforts whenever possible. I routinely promote the interfaith and intercultural organizations represented within AllMEP; https://www.allmep.org/ Also, steer clear of culturally expropriating organizations like JVP.

Like if you know of any donation programs or volunteer work or food drives or anything of the sort that I could do to help?

Ones that specifically help Jews, you mean? I don't actually! Unfortunately, the international conversation since 10/7 has had very little to do with how to help Jews in Israel or in diaspora. I would say that you should look into and perhaps even email or call your local synagogues and see if they have any kind of fund for their buildings or if they're trying to raise money to pay security and donating to them. Aside from that, I'd love for my followers to weigh in on this, as they'll know better.

There are plenty of other books that are less of a bummer to read than those, too. But I think for any non-Jew to truly understand us they need to understand the unexamined antisemitism they carry with them and they need to have true, first-hand accounts about the holocaust to understand the legacy it left to us as well as what it took away.

Which is to say that no matter the amount of models he follows on Instagram, and no matter the amount of sparkling cars and glamorous lifestyle that he effectuates, Jude Bellingham is, after all, capable of feeling at home with somebody who is a nobody.

Which is to say that you sound like a fucking unbearable, out of touch, bliss-tippled piece of shit whenever you think about her in your stupid little head.

Which is to say that you have not stopped thinking about her in your stupid little head.

How she wears her hair, how she lines her lips. You memorised how often she reapplies her hand cream, how often she takes that sunstick out her bag; you know what warrants a smile from her face and what draws in a laugh.

You might be in love with her just as much as Jude was.

The girl, you learned, had little to no Instagram presence. But she is there, and not a single person on Earth aside from Jude’s inner circle—and you—know about their relationship. She was there on Jude’s private account—you had known him shortly before they separated—filling up his Instagram stories with recordings on how she is cooking him her homeland’s cuisine, how Jude was the only living man on Earth that her pedigree cat would ever let pet her.

And Jude had deleted all of their pictures together the moment they broke up; he calls it bitterness, you see it as resentment. But you don’t share the same pettiness as Jude, right?

No you do not. You still go to her page, even if you don’t follow her, and scan over the love poems she still posts, studying each line and wonder if Jude is still the muse of her writing—her delicate, brittle writing.

Ultimately, your concern lies in how Jude was not the one to break the relationship off. She saw a loss of spark, she saw that fame is getting into his head. And Jude? Jude wanted nothing but forever with her. Something she could not match.

It would be easier if you just mind your own business, shut the case, and not bring her up in whatever chance you got. But it would also be easier if she was not someone he had loved.

You stare at your bathroom mirror, and Jude snores softly in the background, lying face down with his lips parted slightly. You wonder why loving Jude Bellingham has turned you into such a narcissist: always looking so deeply into every single crook of your face, every bump and scars and pores.

You have never paid attention to yourself this much, not since forever, not since your first love in middle school.

But somehow, this is worse. Much, much worse.

It’s seven-thirty in the morning, and the sun is barely up. You step out of your bathroom and take in how he lays upon your bed, unknowing how much bigger he is than the small cranny of your apartment.

“Mornin’,” he mumbles, opening his eyes for a quick second before quickly shutting them again. You step closer, sinking the bed with one knee. “Sun’s up early, eh, love?”

“Mhm?” Your fingertips reach to travel on his hairline, fading in clarity and needing another visit to the barber soon. “Sun’s not up, Jude.”

“Jude?” He let out a disgruntled groan, eyes still closed with his hand blindly grasping for yours on his face. “Why Jude? ‘Tcha mad at me?”

The sleepiness is as thick as his accent. You laugh softly and lean in to press a tender kiss against his temple, interlocking your fingers with his, but your mind cannot help but speculate on how she had kissed him like this before, how he would sleep on her ribbon-adorned bedcover, with her Birman just in the corner, curled up on a window sill, as pretty as she was.

“Am not, baby.”

Jude hums. “What’d I do?” He asks again, but before you can answer, he snuggles deeper into his pillow rambling. “Wanna sleep on your lap, wanna cuddle—can I?”

“My love,” you coo, climbing deeper into the bed, letting him climb onto your lap, “come.”

His ear rests on your thighs and arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him, holding on you tight like your air conditioner is going to blow you away.

“Not goin’ back to sleep, candy?”

“That’s a new one,” you wonder if he had used that nickname on her before. “No, baby. I’ve been up a while.”

“Why didn’tcha wake me up?”

You shrug, trying to get comfortable with being in love with him. “You look peaceful sleeping.”

He answers with a grown into your lap, pressing a soft kiss on your thigh before nuzzling into his prior position. “Wanna be awake when you are, love.”

“You need your rest,” you rub your palm along the side of his neck, stopping to move just move your thumb.

“Rest comes everyday,” he says, “I don’t get to see you everyday now, do I?”

This time, you smile. The fear is consistent—it creeps up your veins like anxiety towering and taunting your every breath.

“Well, you’re awake now” —

If he is offering his love to you, though it was once someone else’s, would it be so much of a sin just to try it? Even if he ends up hurting you, even if he ends up leaving you for something that he knew was much sweeter?

— “what would you like to do?”

“Mhm,” Jude opens his eyes, turning his head to catch your eyes.

You freeze, and her face appears in your head: how does she talk about you to her friends? How does she compare you to her? The way you do your hair, or call Jude your baby?

“Dunno, love,” he mutters. “What do you want to do?”

You trace your fingers again on his hairline, drawing down to his neck.

“What about pizza?” You suggest. “Let’s order some pizza.”

Looking for Community Perspectives on Destiny‘s Themes and Main Conflict for a Cultural Project!

Greetings everyone!

I‘m currently working on a personal project that ties in Destiny‘s themes and main conflicts with encouraging people of my ethnicity to tell our own stories, even if they include thematic elements that may not be traditional in Western media or have been actively discouraged by oppressive powers in the past!

My focus will be on how others perceive portrayals of social issues/powers we have struggled against as they are depicted in fiction, and to bring Destiny to the table, I want to connect it back to the Witness as a main antagonist and people‘s understanding of the role it plays in Destiny‘s main narrative!

I‘m coming here to ask some questions and have a space for people to engage with the thoughts of others in order to understand what people take away from the story of Destiny! These questions are asked for the purpose of steering my further research and conclusions; nothing will be published and identities of those who participate are not recorded!

My main questions are:

1. What do you think Destiny tries to say about the nature of existence and humanity’s place in it with the philosophies surrounding the Veil and Traveler?

2. What do you think Bungie‘s intentions were with creating the Witness and it’s beliefs to be the main antagonistic force in the Light vs Dark saga?

3. How do you view the Witness‘ relationship with the Traveler and Veil (and what can that tell us about humanity)?

4. What stands out to you about the religious influences in Destiny‘s story and how do they enhance and/or diminish the narrative it is trying to tell?

5. Has any aspect of Destiny changed your worldview and why?

6. Do you believe the Witness to be an evocative villain? Why or why not?

7. Do you have personal experiences that affect the way you view the Witness?

8. Why do you think Bungie decided to make the Precursors and the Witness separate?

9. Why do you think Bungie made the Witness a collective of a civilization’s ethos instead of a singular being/person?

10. Is there anything about the Witness‘ design/influences behind it that you would like to point out (especially in regards to its nearly human look?)

11. What can be taken away from the Witness‘ methodology for obtaining disciples, what it seeks in a potential disciple, or the relationship it has with its disciples?

12. What lessons can be learned from the Witness‘ formation and the affect it had on the universe?

13. Do you have any resources (novels, shows, philosophical concepts, mythologies, etc.) that relate to Destiny‘s main themes or my inquiry in general?

6 months in...

Have a teen Cassandra, Devin and Charlie.

Today makes 6 months since I've been posting, and about a year that I've been playing with my rotational save. I'm so happy to finally have people to talk to about my sims so this post, much like my 3 months post, is here to say THANK YOU

Thank you first and foremost for caring about what I have to share into the void. I really didn't think my little stories would gain any followers beyond the people I migrated here from Spoutible with. After all they're sims living simple-ish lives, making their families with less drama than the average story on here. And no tidying up filters or edits. Somehow you welcomed them into your dash and I'm extremely grateful. Thank you for every single like you give. For those that comment, thanks for the chats. For those that want to comment, I promise not to be scary. For those that don't want to comment or don't have time, guess what? I still appreciate you being on this journey with me!

On behalf of my sims, thank you for accepting them. Thank you for understanding they fall all over the map. They have different body builds, genders, romantic attractions, sexual attractions, woohoo drives, are neurotypical and neurodiverse as well as having different moralities (I have an evil sim and a good sim now? Can't remember if they've ever talked but they certainly know of each other). I'm trying to add in more ethnic/cultural diversity where I can but with long lifespans it can take a while.

Between you and me one of my biggest tumblr fears is getting to part 3 of a household only for someone to comment "These ones are so boring, get back to blah blah blah", but... that hasn't happened? Somehow I've been extremely lucky and landed in the part of tumblr where none of you post mean or rude things on my posts. For this I am incredibly thankful.

There is a large patio just behind Brahim’s house.

You have no opinion of it at first. It’s beautiful, sure, with hanging plants attached to the edge of the roof’s rain gutter and an outdoor kitchen where he would host BBQ parties with his friends and families. But you have not really given it much thought aside from occasional comments. It’s always been a backdrop to your life—just another place, just another setting.

Nevertheless all these self-imposed ignorances, once you noticed the way the sun would reflect on its salmon-coloured tiles, it was like you cannot look away.

You have caught yourself staring at them when you have nothing else to pay attention to, with your mind softly drifting away with a glass of wine in your hand as you sit on one of the soft chairs in his aquamarine sofa set.

With the sun hanging low on the horizon that day, the light it shines upon your face as you have your arms hung loosely around Brahim’s neck reminds you of the colour of persimmon.

You are sitting on the salmon-coloured tiles, back against the aquamarine sofa, and Brahim lazes in-between your legs. His fingers in one hand intertwine with yours on his chest, while the other is placed strategically under your thighs.

You would divert your eyes from this view—from his soft hair as you press your chin on his head, from the sun when it is warm enough for you to directly maintain eye contact with it—and look at the tiles. You feel like the sun would look beautiful against the tiles. You know that the sun looks beautiful against the tiles. 

But Brahim is humming so tenderly, a song that has been put on repeat on your car rides. You trace patterns into his hand, enjoying the summer buzzes of cicadas harmonising with his tunes.

“You know…”

He breaks your train of thoughts and you hum in response.

“...I think you’re the one for me.”

And this is when you break eye contact with the sun.

You stop tracing your fingers, tilting your head to take a better look of his face under you.

“Huh?”

He laughs, and snuggles back into your chest.

“Like…” He looks at the sunset, shrugging his shoulders lightly. “...you know, if I were to have a kid, I’d like to have a kid with you.”

Drowning in your own silence, you cannot bring yourself to give an answer.

You have been dating him for about a year, and have known him for three months longer than that. Time feels fleeting, though, with him. It feels like just yesterday was last year.

There has never been talks of marriage, or anything beyond just sleeping on the same bed and drinking from the same cups of coffee. Nothing beyond childish endeavours, nothing beyond looking at sunsets together.

“Me?”

“I love you,” he breaks the delicate rhythm of the stillness within the two of you.

“Well,” you don’t hesitate, and instead race to say, “I love you too.”

You let go of his hand, and your grip finds his chin, gently feeling the unshaven stubbles of his facial hair under your touch.

“And I love everything about you,” he continues where you do not expect him to. “You’re smart, and passionate, and compassionate.”

“And you want to have a kid with me?”

Your tone is genuine, but it draws out a laugh from him. Soon enough, you are laughing alongside him.

“I don’t know if I want a kid,” he breathes in between his laugh. “But when I know, I know that you are the one I want to have a kid with.”

“God,” you lightly smack his cheeks with three of your fingers as you cradle his head in your hand. “You’re talking children, Brahim. We’re both as young as they go.”

“It’s hypothetical!”

Brahim tilts his head and you straighten in your seat, catching his doe eyes.

“Well,” you sweep a part of his bangs, stomach churning and heart skipping. “A child with your eyes… does sound nice.”

“Hm?” The edge of his eyes crinkles as he grins. “You’re thinking of it too.”

“Hypothetically,” you roll your eyes, trying to suppress the smile trying to break into your lips, “a child with your eyes does sound nice.”

“And your lips,” he joins, removing the hand from your thigh and using his knuckles to brush against your cheekbones. “And your laugh, your patience, your fun.”

“Don’t make this hypothetical child a carbon copy of me,” you huff, leaning down to press a short kiss on his nose.

He scrunches his nose the moment your lips make contact, and you can see the blood rushing to his cheeks and nose.

“But you’re all I want,” he whines. “Nevermind my eyes, I want this child to have yours. And your eyebrows. And nose.”

“Seems to me that you don’t want a kid.”

“It’s a metaphor,” he winks, and you laugh, removing your hand from his chin to cover his eyes, shaking your head lightly.

“A metaphorical child, a hypothetical child.”

“See,” he does not do a thing about your palm obstructing his vision but holds your wrist, “I’m not talking children. I’m talking you—I’m talking us.”

“Uh huh,” now that he cannot see you, you let yourself smile, pursing your lips to one side of your cheek and in trying to distract yourself from the way your heart is doing somersaults in your chest, your eyes catch the persimmon light of the sun bouncing off the salmon-coloured tiles. “I think I get it now. A metaphor.”

“It’s like saying ‘I love you’,” he begins again, “but… you know.”

“The more you explain it, the less it makes sense.”

Brahim laughs, “Then, I just don’t have to say a thing.”

“Yeah,” you look back at him, taking your hand away from his eyes, and watch his pupils adjust to the brightness. “I get it, anyway.”

No because literally anything Israel does is labelled as evil. Literally the only thing people would accept is for Israel to stop fighting.

If it stops fighting it doesn’t exist. THAT is ethnic cleansing. If Israel stops fighting and most Israelis are murdered and those that survive are forced to leave, that is ethnic cleansing and Hamas would have accomplished its goal. Is that what you want?

And I will say once again: war is a horrible thing and the loss of innocent life is horrific. I am experiencing that loss first hand. And it is horrific on both sides. All I am saying, is that if a country is attacked and it's existence is being threatened, to expect it to just sit there and do nothing is insane. And you would never demand or expect that from any other country. So why Israel? The answer is simple. Even if Israel had never done anything wrong. Not even one tiny thing. It would still be under constant surveillance and criticism and it's right to exist would be questioned simply because it is the Jewish state . And that's not to say Israel has never done anything wrong. That would be a lie and as I’ve already stated, I am the first person to criticise the Israeli government. However, what is not a lie, is that if it was not the Jewish state, no one would be questioning its right to fight for its life right now.

And before you place all the blame on Israel, let’s not forget who started this war. Regardless of what you think of the very complex history, do not forget who, in the war that is being fought right now, attacked first. Who attacked first and who was forced to respond in order to survive. Do not paint Israel as this all powerful, all evil force that doesn’t need to defend itself. If the events on Saturday proved anything is that that is simply not the case. The consequences of this are awful and no one can even begin to comprehend the loss on both sides. All I ask is that if you choose to comment on it, you remember that this is a fight for existence. A fight for survival. And so if you are outraged at the loss you should be outraged by the loss on both sides and you should express That, instead of forgetting to even mention the loss of one of those sides in your posts.

Instead of placing all the blame on Israel, don’t forget to place blame on Hamas. Don’t forget that Palestinians are oppressed by Hamas and that the war being fought at this moment would not be happening if it wasn’t for them. (* the bombs mentioned in the screenshot- these bombs are dropped on places where Israel knows Hamas is operating from eg firing rockets from and to avoid innocent civilian loss, they warn them. This is only required because Hamas intentionally operates from civilian buildings. then, Hamas forces the civilians to stay, using them once again as humans shields. If you are calling out Israel for dropping the bombs, Surely you should be calling that out too.) All I ask is that you don’t forget and don’t leave out these very crucial pieces of the story. Because narratives matter and narratives are leading to actual harm being done to Jews all around the world right now so just don’t leave these things out.

And I’ll also attach this clip on ‘proportionality’. When you call for proportionality this is what that would look like and no one wants that. No Israeli wants that. The Israeli government would never want that let alone give orders for that. And that is the difference between the Israeli government and Hamas.

Also you might have noticed that I haven’t been using the Palestine tag and in case that was giving anyone the wrong idea, the only reason for that is that I can’t handle getting any hate or threats right now so I’m doing the most I can to avoid it because just one scroll down the tag was enough for me. So yeah if you thought there was another reason, there isn’t. At first I wasn’t using any tags but I do want at least some people to see this because it’s important. Thank you for your response. I apologize for how aggressive I was, I've been feeling extremely defensive recently amongst the massive wave of antisemitism that is on the rise on the US right now and the almost total refusal from a lot of the left to acknowledge it. I've had people tell me point blank that antisemitism doesn't exist outside of neo-nazi circles and that Jews aren't oppressed anymore twice just today. There are graffiti swastikas all over my neighborhood right now and I'm seeing people comment "Free Palestine" under videos of Adolf Hitler. So I'm on the defense right now when it comes to the antisemitic tropes I'm seeing in the conversation and just assumed I wasn't going to get a polite answer because that's what keeps happening.

I appreciate that you considered what I was saying. You also put in the tags that I could message you again if I still had concerns so here I am. I understand that that post is supposed to be directed at a certain subset of the Jewish population, primarily at Zionists. But antisemetic tropes are still harmful when they are used against bad people. The way the Holocaust is being leveraged right now as a rhetorical tool in this discourse by both sides is horrific. It is not appropriate to ever compare Jewish anxiety about genocide to white supremacist fantasies about a white genocide, because the difference is that the Holocaust actually happened, and many of its survivors are still alive. This doesn't mean you can't call out people who use the Holocaust as a device to justify the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. But you have to address that rhetoric under the conditions of acknowledging that the Holocaust actually happened.

People can and should be angry at people who use the Holocaust to justify what the Israeli government is doing now. But it has to be talked about in that we should be angry on behalf of the people that were killed that their deaths are now being leveraged to perpetuate more war crimes. Comparing the disingenuous rhetorical device of using the Holocaust in this way to anxieties about a white genocide does not do this. Rather, it creates a false equivalence between these things that lends credibility to the idea that the Holocaust either wasn't real or is something that is wildly overexaggerated.

This and the way that post talks about some belief in a Jewish "superiority" make it very clear that they are drawing strong comparisons between Jewish Zionists and white supremacists. This just is not an appropriate comparison no matter what evils the Israeli government is perpetuating. Jews are consistently the target of white supremacists, a fact that is constantly denied by the left who are very happy to lump us in with white people and then ignore antisemitism within their own ranks because they just see calling it out as pulling an "all lives matter." Considering the massive wave of antisemitism that is on the rise right now, it is more important than ever that we don't slip into this kind of rhetoric when rightfully criticizing what is happening in Israel and Palestine. No matter how abhorrent the actions the Israeli government is taking, it doesn't change that Jews are Semitic people, are not white, and are not "manufacturing" a "fear of what could be for you." Again, this phrasing heavily implies that Jewish fears about genocide are irrational and comparable to white supremacist anxiety about "white genocide." It's just not appropriate no matter what subsection of the Jewish population the post is addressing. It's a false equivalence. Zionists who use fears of being the target of a genocide to now perpetuate genocide nonetheless aren't making up the idea that Jews could and have been targets of mass extermination campaigns. They're using this anxiety to justify evil, but that doesn't mean it's overall manufactured.

To be clear I fully believe people of different religions and ethnicities in the Levant can live in peace, and it the idea that they can't is absolutely being used as a tool by the Israeli government to perpetuate genocide. But like I said it is just not appropriate ever to compare this to fears about "white genocide" because it is falsely equivicating the Holocaust to a made up persecution of white people that has never and will never happen.

Hello, I’m glad you took the first message well and I am really sorry you’ve had to deal with antisemitism within the pro Palestine movement, the fact that people would use this movement to hide their anti semetic feelings is terrible and not justifiable whatsoever.

Before i say anything im gonna specify that everything im saying is from how I interpreted the post, that doesn’t make your interpretation invalid or somehow frame it as you stretching to an outlandish conclusion. Your experiences are your own and however you interpret it belongs to you and you’re allowed to be upset. The only time the post mentioned jewish people as a whole was in the beginning where they were criticizing the idea of Palestinian liberation requiring jewish harm. Jewish people genuinely fearing a second holocaust is always going to be a valid fear—but the way its being leveraged by zionists as an excuse to wipe out a population is whats being criticized. I understand the comparison to a white genocide may be out of taste and not the best comparison because of the real histories jewish people have faced, but i feel the point of using that comparison is to highlight the hypocrisy of zionists and how their fears have bubbled past justifiable and now more closely fit the ideals of those who scream about white genocide. As they genocide an entire population while talking about the fear they feel of being oppressed in the way they are currently oppressing others. It is known atleast to me that the US support of israel is not because theyre jewish and does not connect to specific jewish stereotypes, but because israel is a great resource and an ally to the US. I understand the route of thinking you had regarding the post that could lead to people using this to justify antisemitism and i think its fucking terrible—but the case is that the Israeli government is manufacturing fear into people that everyone against Israel is antisemitic and standing against Israel is anti semitism when thats not the case.

The issue is that zionists believe the Palestinian people are oppressing the people of Israel and anyone who supports them wants to commit this second holocaust against Jewish people, that anyone who is pro Palestine is in favor of Jewish harm. I can’t impart any validity to that fear because it is what’s causing all this trouble. This isn’t the general Jewish populations fear, this is just zionists who have been conditioned to think anyone against Israel is an enemy.

i understand you think comparing the zionists who are fighting to wipe out the Palestinian population to white supremacists is not appropriate, and this is just where we have to disagree. The Israeli government dosent work as a cold inhuman machine thats sending bots out to kill people. There are real people in tanks, real people doing ground invasions, real people sending the bombs out that wipe out entire bloodlines. I think comparing their actions to those of white supremacists makes perfect sense. And it is perfectly understandable that jewish people would fear a second holocaust, but the way the Israeli government is leveraging the holocaust as a way to drum up fear in a population and create an “us vs them” mentality towards a group of people who did not perpetrate those acts towards them and instead making them perpetuate the same harm that was done onto their ancestors is despicable. Its easy for criticisms of zionists and the israeli government to fall under antisemitism if people start equating zionism with judaism as a whole, which was not the purpose of the post and never will be a stance i support. If you cant call out zionists without assuming im talking about the jewish population as a whole then theres no way i can call out zionists without possibly hurting you which hurts the movement as a whole.

I think all this boils down to is knowing that zionist is not a dog whistle for all Jewish people. When we talk about zionists were not talking about all jewish people. I think we may fundamentally disagree on some things but at the end of the day this is something thats gonna happen and splitting hairs isnt whats helpful to the Palestinian people facing a genocide right now.
