Soonyoung expected the 00:00 text, the 00:00 visit, however, was a complete surprise.

“Don’t you guys have a curfew? How’d you even get here? And don’t you have school tomorrow morning?”

“I’ll have school for the next three years, only 2,7‰ of those days are your birthdays.”

You said it so simply, like it was a given. Of course you took the late bus on a thursday night just to come see him..

Soonyoung felt a little bad that he hadn’t done the same on your birthday, but the thought instantly dissolved when your arm wrapped around his shoulders, pulling him along to the convenience store and asking which ice cream he wanted.

Soonyoung who you met for the first time in kindergarten when he tried to steal the tiger figurine from you, but tripped over your lion pride while running away. Who immediately felt bad for trying to steal and instead sat down and asked to play with you.

Soonyoung who hid when his dad came to pick him up ‘cause he wasn’t done conquering the jungle and didn’t want to go home (read: he hadn’t managed to climb up the slide you were sitting on) yet.

Soonyoung who got matching face paint with you at the amusement park. Yes, tiger and lion. Who still has the tiger-plushie you won for him sitting on his window sill.

Soonyoung who binged disney films with you until you both passed out. Whose favourite film is still the jungle book.

Soonyoung who read Warrior cats with you in primary school and said that if you two were cats he’d be Lionpaw and you’d be Tigerpaw. When you asked him if he didn’t want to be Tigerpaw he explained “No, because now I get to have you as both my favourite things.”

Soonyoung who would beam like the sun whenever you ended up in the same class for another year straight. Who’d let you sleep on his shoulder when you got tired because there were too many books on your desk.

Soonyoung who danced a SHINee choreography for you, who was still half asleep, while walking to school. Who would not stop talking about SHINee ever, eventually managing to make you a fan as well making SHINee comebacks become a national holiday in your world.

Soonyoung who didn’t know what to do when your grandpa passed other than hold you and ask if you wanted to watch the lion king. Who asked his parents if your family could celebrate Chuseok with them after you told him you had no living grandparents left.

Soonyoung who had a terrible habit of staying up watching ghost hunting videos at night, often ending in waking you up to talk to him until he wasn’t too scared to sleep anymore. Soonyoung who thought the water pipes were a monster in his walls.

Soonyoung who called you after academy classes, randomly dropping the news that he was going to be a kpop trainee.

Soonyoung who would send you cover videos and goofy pictures of himself and his trainee friends whenever he had the time, because even though school was the only place you saw each other lately he refused to let you grow apart.

Soonyoung who hid in the changing room with Mingyu so he could stay on the phone with you until the response to your high school application arrived. Who knew how badly you wanted this and how hard you’d worked despite the ridiculously low acceptance rate.

Soonyoung who definitely didn’t cry when you got in. Who definitely didn’t give the phone to Mingyu because he needed a moment to calm down.

Soonyoung who cried like a baby watching the lion king that night.
