Summary: He is one of the top secret guards that was given the task to protect the Kingdom’s Emperor at all cost. Nobody knew about his secret job. Unfortunately, one day, he got badly wounded during a mission to which a local village doctor was sent to saved him. What he didn’t expect was falling in love with her.

a/n: Hello! First of all, so sorry this took so long! I've been pretty busy the past few weeks but I'm back! Thank you for this request @mymisstina and for being patient with me! I hope I don't disappoint too much if it's not exactly how you pictured the storyline to be! P.S I wrote an alternate ending version here if you want a happier ending <3
Your family’s bloodline has been running with doctors all throughout the generations. From your ancestors, to your great great great grandmother, to your great great grandfather, to your great grandfather, to your grandmother, to your mother and now to you. Needless to say, you were slightly more interested in this as compared to your younger brother, but at least there’s someone in the family who would most likely keep the knowledge and skill alive for the next generations to come.
All the local villagers knew you as one of the Jeon doctors. Jeon was your family name and of course, everyone knew who you were for you had begun to slowly take over your mother’s place whenever people came for a treatment. You’re only 25 and yet your mother was already transferring her title to you.
Hence, because of that, you were crowned as not only the youngest village doctor in town but also a very skilled one at best. Despite your amazing ability to treat people’s sickness and wounds to perfection and save lives multiple times, people also see you as the cheerful, friendly, kind-hearted, chatty young adult that just makes everyone feel so endeared to you.
Therefore, people of Silla Kingdom believe that you have a bright future ahead of you.
Everyday was work for you, including today on a Sunday afternoon where you had just gotten back from the local market with your brother to buy some vegetables and chicken meat for your mother.
The minute you walk through those doors, your mother’s voice calls for you from the small room in your home where you treat people. You let out a soft sigh as you turned to your brother and handed him the paper bags filled with groceries.
“Have fun working dear sister.” Jungkook, your younger brother teased as you slapped the back of his head knowing he could do whatever he wanted for he was free from having to treat the ill. Nevertheless, you went into the small room and plastered a small smile to your face when you saw your mother mixing a concoction into a wooden bowl.
“Sweetie, did you buy the ginseng root and rosemary like I told you to?” She asked as you gave her a firm nod before she told you to get some of it from the kitchen.
After a few minutes of helping to lather the herbal medicine all over the man’s open wound on his shin, you helped to wrap the cloth around his leg to protect the wound from any bacteria. He thanked you and your mother for helping him on a weekend, saying he felt bad but didn’t know what else to do.
“It’s okay sir. I wish you a quick recovery.” You smiled as he soon walked out the door after returning your smile. The second he left, your mother placed a firm hand on your shoulder with a proud smile on her face.
“I’m so proud of you Y/N. I’m sure Emperor Choi would be proud to have you as the village’s doctor once I’ve stepped down from this title.” Her words left a huge mark on you. To say you love the job was an understatement. However, it doesn’t stop you from thinking you still have a lot to improve on in terms of your skill and yet, everyone already has high expectations of you.
This didn’t help with the stress being loaded on you.
“I chose you for I believe you master the skills of a true warrior, one that is capable of fulfilling your tasks as a protector towards me, your Emperor. Am I able to say that?” Emperor Choi says from his throne as he keeps his gaze locked on the young man dressed in all black hanbok, a leather wide waist belt, long dark brown hair with a sword attached to the back of his belt, who was kneeled before him at the foot of the steps.
“Yes, Your Majesty.” The young male said without a single shift in his voice.
“Very good. And I believe you understand the rules then?” Emperor Choi tilts his head up high to show his authority as King.
“I understand, Your Majesty.”
The king smiles in satisfaction before he gets up from the throne and makes his way down the steps carefully while he takes the sword that was handed to him by the Chief of Hwarang warriors. The king stops at the last step right in front of where the male was kneeled, only to raise his sword and make the official announcement.
“By the power vested in me, I hereby appoint you, Kim Taehyung, warrior of Hwarang to be my personal guard from here on out. Do not disappoint me or there will be serious consequences.”
“I will not disappoint you, Your Majesty. Thank you for this opportunity.” Taehyung said as the king smiled slightly before he spoke up.
“It never comes twice. Remember that.” Emperor Choi says firmly before he makes his leave and so did Taehyung.
During the day, Taehyung worked as a local fisherman with his father. After he catches the freshwater fishes, he and his dad sell them at the farmer’s market in the village. Nobody knows about his secret job other than himself, the Emperor and the guards at the palace. He was told to keep his identity unknown to the public to protect him from any outside danger.
Taehyung was known to be a cold-hearted person whereby he was someone who isn’t particularly good at expressing his feelings.
He grew up without a motherly figure in his life and to have a father who is always working, almost forgetting he has a child at home, makes it hard for Taehyung to receive or give affection. Therefore, having almost no history of falling in love with anyone. He wasn’t really desperate in searching for one nor is he currently eyeing anyone in particular. That doesn’t mean he does not wish to be with someone one day.
It was a busy day in Silla Kingdom for the local villagers as everyone was so persistent in stocking up their food supplies. Taehyung was by the side, helping his dad cut and remove the intestines of the fishes if someone requests for it.
He had just gathered the sliced raw fish wrapped in paper and gave it to the lady when he heard a cheerful voice coming from where his dad was. He glanced over to see a girl talking to his father.
It was you.
You had a basket filled with vegetables, dried chillies and other food supplies on your right arm, the other hand poking and checking to see which fish you wanted to purchase.
The way your eyes sparkled under the sun while you chatted with his father, how your voice sounded so full of excitement, how you rarely talked about yourself and instead, asked his father about his day, so many more others that Taehyung could probably list out in his head. He was so distracted by you that he didn’t even notice his father holding out a fresh Carp fish to him.
“Oi, are you going to just stand there all day or are you going to help this lady cut the fish?” His father asked as Taehyung shook his head slightly before he apologized.
“Right. Sorry.” Taehyung mumbled as he took the fish and began to make precise incisions to remove the innards. Just as he was rinsing the fish under the running water to get rid of the excess blood, you came over with a bright smile on your face.
“Is he your father?” You asked in a hushed tone, causing Taehyung to look at you with a brow raised.
“Yes.”
“Does he always talk like that to you?” You asked as a small sad pout formed on your lips. You saw the way his face dropped for a second before he replied to you.
“Why do you want to know?” He said.
“I just feel a little bad. I mean, I could’ve done this later myself but your father gave it to you before I could say no. Sorry.” You apologized but was quick to go back to your cheery self when you saw him wrap the fish and hand it to you.
“Either way, thank you! Have a nice day!” You flashed him a big smile, soon placing the bag into your basket. Afterwhich, you waved goodbye to him and his father. Taehyung watched as you did a little hop every now and then down the street. Either he was going crazy or he actually thought you were quite adorable. Maybe it’s the latter.
A few nights later, it was already coming to 10pm and you were just helping your mother stir the new concoction of herbal medication cream she wanted to store in a jar when there was a frantic knock on your front door. This makes you jump while your mother whips her head to stare at the door. She yells at Jungkook to open the door, only to hear shuffled footsteps making its way to greet whoever that came at this ungodly hour.
Your brother pulls the door open, only to be met with two of the palace guards.
“Can I help you?” Jungkook asked slightly confused as one of them replied to him.
“We need one of you to follow us to the palace.”
“What for?”
Before anyone could continue, your mother came to join Jungkook by the door as she gave the two armed men a polite smile and asked, “May I know what is the issue?”
“There has been an unfortunate injury on one of our guards and we need someone to aid him immediately.” With that being said, your mother responded without giving a second thought.
“My daughter will go.” You nearly choked on your own saliva, staring at your mother in shock.
“We need to go, now.” The guard said, making your mother approach you telling you to get dressed while she packs the things you might need. After you came back fully dressed, your mother passed you the satchel and whispered to you saying, “You’ll be alright.” Sure you’ve treated many injuries before but never have you treated someone from the palace. The journey to the palace was shorter than you think, as the grounds were heavily guarded along the whole perimeter.
You followed quietly behind one guard while the other was trailing behind you. They led you around the palace, bringing you to a room. Where inside, lies a man dressed in all black, his face covered by the cloth mask to show only his eyes. The man was badly wounded. There was a deep cut in his left rib and a slash to his right shoulder.
A soft gasp left your lips as the two guards gestured for you to enter, only to then close the door behind them leaving you alone with the injured man.
Without further ado, you kneeled down beside the man to put your bag down before going to get a bowl and fill it with warm water. You came back to hear the man hissing, to which you crinkle your nose out of instinct as you wince just imagining the pain he was going through. You soaked a clean towel into the warm water, squeezing it to remove excess water.
“I will need you to take these off. Can you move?” You asked softly while you pointed to the belt he was wearing. The man never said a word but instead opted for a nod. You carefully helped him into a sitting position before he slowly removed the belt and placed it aside.
Just then, you remembered he needed to take his hanbok off so that you could aid his wounds.
“Uh, I need these off too… okay?” You asked, earning a nod from him. To that, you helped him with the hanbok, pushing the material off his shoulders to reveal his honey toned skin, chiseled abs now coated with drips of crimson red blood from the wounds.
Once he was laying down again, you started to clean his wounds, carefully swiping the towel over his skin where there were blood stains all over. You managed to clean most of it, rinsing your towel again and squeezing it to get rid of excess water. You gently dab on the open wounds to soak the fresh oozing blood, occasionally hearing his breath hitch whenever the towel made contact with his flesh. You would then apologize if he did that.
You took the herbal cream your mother made the other day that was meant to be put onto an open wound for a few minutes then wipe off the excess, then close the wound, put more cream on top then wrap the entire part with bandage to let the medication act as a protective seal from bacteria.
That was exactly the process you did.
Minutes ticked by and you were just waiting for the cream to do it’s healing magic. All the while, having to listen to the man groan and hiss if the herbs tingled on his wound a little harshly.
You were just preparing the curved needle that’s used to suture open wounds, when you heard him speak up.
“Aren’t you a little young for a doctor?”
You turned around to find him leaning against the wall for support, to which you smiled at him.
“I guess my parents wanted to pass down the job to me as quickly as possible.” You laughed but he didn’t. The room fell awfully quiet again so this time, it was your turn to ask a question.
“Do you do this everyday? What is it like to be a palace guard? Is it scary to fight off the bad guys?” Your questions came tumbling in, you probably annoyed the hell out of him now… Great.
“Yes I do. It’s okay, I guess? And… Not scary at all.” He replied, shocking you that he actually did.
“Really? How do you fight them off? Do you use a sword or something?”
“What do you think we use then? Of course a sword.” He said, his voice laced with a tinge of sarcasm but then you heard a very faint chuckle from him.
You didn’t know why but you felt your cheeks burning. You cleared your throat awkwardly, telling him to stay there while you go get a new bowl of warm water to clean the herbal cream off his wounds. You spent the next few minutes finishing up the last few steps, successfully sewing his wounds close as best as you could before applying extra cream over the wounds and soon wrapping his torso and shoulder with bandage.
Once you were done, you cleared the place and discarded all the used items into the trash. You had kept your stuff back into your satchel and was about to leave when he called to you softly from his seat. You turned around to meet his eyes. For some reason, his eyes looked so familiar but you couldn’t point out who or where you knew him from.
“Thank you, Doctor…” He said, thanking you politely with a slight bow of his head. This made you return his kind gesture and gave him a smile too.
“You're welcome. Remember to not move so much. Don’t do anything dangerous for the next week or two at least!” You reminded him as he simply nodded but you could see the way his eyes creased, indicating that he was smiling behind the mask. He never said anything else as you left the room, leaving Taehyung there with the silliest smile on his face.
Is it too fast for him to admit he’s in love?
3 days went by and you were out to the local farmer’s market again to grab food supplies for your mother. You were strolling down the street when you spotted Taehyung just skillfully cutting the fish into smaller pieces before putting it on the tray for villagers to choose from. This made you smile as you walked over to his stall, making sure to sneak up on him. The moment he was going to turn around and face his chopping table again, you leaped forward to scare him.
“Boo!” You said, both hands were out. However, his reaction wasn’t really one you hoped to get because he barely even flinched. Instead, all he did was stare at you like you were an embarrassment. “Psh, you’re boring…” You pouted, crossing your arms over your chest while you walked to the front to choose some fishes.
Taehyung had to hold himself back from smiling despite having the urge to.
“Where’s your father?” You asked as you peeled the Trout’s gills up to check the freshness of the fish.
“He went to get more.” Taehyung said in which you nodded.
“Do you live around here?”
“Not really. Why?”
“That’s weird. So you’re not from Silla?”
“I guess you can say that?”
You nodded, giving him two Trout’s for him to weigh and wrap it for you. He was going to take the fishes and take out the innards for you when you stopped him, “No need for that. I can do it later at home. Thanks anyway.” You giggled, going ahead to hand him the bill while he passed you the fish. Once again, you left him smiling like a complete idiot.
“How dare you step foot into this palace. I will not let you near the King.” Taehyung seethed through his teeth, holding his sword firmly in his grip as he pointed the weapon towards the group of rivaled warriors who were on a mission to kill Emperor Choi.
“You shall not interfere in our business, unless you want your head off.” One of the men said as Taehyung got into his fighting stance.
“Over my dead body.” Taehyung said, drawing his arm back and soon charging straight to his right, slicing the air to cut a good chunk of flesh off two of the warrior’s torso. He quickly used his sword to block the attack from his left, pushing them forcefully only to twirl his sword around one of it and flicking his wrist up. The enemy’s sword flew up into the air as Taehyung grabbed the base, successfully equipping two weapons.
The fight was highly unfair considering it was 10 against 1 but there was a reason why the Emperor chose him to be his secret guard and that was because of Taehyung’s amazing fight skills. He was trained from a young age, learning and gaining knowledge on how to be a warrior.
However, despite all these achievements and training, it is still quite close to impossible for him to win the fight when there’s so many of them and just him alone.
Taehyung managed to injure half of them by swinging his swords around, slicing and cutting their limbs like it was chicken meat. The sound of metal clinking against one another every time their swords come in contact, echoed the palace walls. He was so busy fighting off two of the men that he completely misjudged the man leaping to attack him from the side.
The man drew his sword back and swiftly sliced Taehyung’s back, earning a loud groan from him.
He quickly plunged the swords into the two men’s torso and soon pulled it out, letting their fresh red crimson blood ooze out of the open wounds. Taehyung’s clothes were splattered with blood, his eyes were burning with rage, thankful that he had a cloth mask on to cover his face except for his eyes.
4 down, 6 more to go.
His back was throbbing, he was starting to feel weaker by the second but he was determined to finish what they started.
Hence, with that mindset, Taehyung glared at the four figures running towards him from every direction only to easily run and slide against the pebbled ground in between two of them and make a break for the side roof. He ran across the roof leaping from one roof to another while 4 others were trailing behind him and another 2 followed from ground level. Taehyung led them to the other side of the palace, away from the Emperor.
Once he reached the other side of the palace, hopped off the roof and swung his swords, flicking his wrist to allow the blades to slice through the air and eventually, the two men’s necks. He didn’t decapitate them but it was enough to slit their throats to kill them off.
Now it was left with the 4 men.
With skillful attacks and fast reflexes, Taehyung managed to stay alive despite the cuts he got on his arm and chest.
However, he was weak from the exhausting fight and yet, there was somewhere he wanted to be. Someone he wants to see in the midst of all this chaos. He wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. If he should go. What if his identity gets exposed? What if someone sees him and finds out who he really is? He was supposed to keep his identity hidden. Even with these thoughts, he was already on his way to the one place he had in mind.
Hence, the reason why about 15 minutes later, he was currently standing outside a home which everyone had grown to recognize and soon knocking on it. The minute the door opened, Taehyung couldn’t help but collapse. A pair of strong arms caught his body, mumbling a soft “what the hell” before the former brought Taehyung inside and soon called for the person he wanted to see most. Not long after Taehyung was led to the small room which was specially made for treating injured people, Jungkook turns to you after you enter.
“Who is this?” You whispered.
“I don’t know. He looks like a palace guard. He’s pretty weak and bleeding quite a lot.” Jungkook said as you nodded.
When you gathered all the things you needed and went over to Taehyung, you instantly recognized those eyes. It was the same as the one you treated the other night when you got called to the palace. You have no idea who he was and Taehyung would like to keep it that way for as long as he could. You walked up to him and walked him through the process of what you had to do before you actually did it.
He simply nodded quietly, letting you do your job. Jungkook left after he helped you stir up some herbs for the traditional treatment paste.
The room was quiet as you did your part, making sure you thoroughly cleaned his wounds before putting any paste on it. All the while, Taehyung watched quietly as you lathered the herbal paste on the wound on his chest. Unfortunately, curiosity got the best of you when you realized his old scars were still prominent on his chest from when you aided him the first time at the palace which was not long ago.
“I thought I told you not to do anything dangerous for the next week or two?” You asked slightly disappointed that he didn’t listen to you.
“My duty is to protect the Emperor at all costs. Do you think I get injured for the fun of it?” His voice was deep and almost as if he was pissed.
“No, but-”
“Did you think I could easily take a break whenever I want to?” He raised his voice at you. Taehyung didn’t know why he was getting so worked up when his initial intentions were to see you and feel happy about it.
Unfortunately, it seems like you didn’t understand his job and just simply thinks it’s easy for him to avoid getting injured. You grew quiet, not knowing exactly how to go around the topic so you opted for silence. After you were done suturing his wounds and wrapping him up in bandage, you gave him a small jar filled with the herbal paste for him to put on his wounds tomorrow. Taehyung left without a word, feeling slightly guilty for yelling when you didn’t really do anything wrong.
Maybe avoiding you for now would be a good idea.
“Oi, remove the innards.” His father said as he tossed the Carp onto the cutting table Taehyung was standing at. He lets out a sigh but nevertheless cuts the fish like he was tasked. His mind was somewhere else, he couldn’t get proper sleep last night after the unfortunate encounter with you at your home. He hasn’t seen you in the past week during the day and he hoped he wouldn’t see you today as well. Except of course, luck was never on his side.
“Good morning!” Your voice beamed from his right, making him look up to see you bouncing on your feet towards him. He could never understand how you have that much energy when it’s early in the morning.
“Morning.” He replied monotonously, handing the wrapped fish to the woman waiting to the left.
“Had a good catch today?” You asked, your voice cheery as usual.
“It was quite alright. What are you buying today?” Taehyung asked despite wanting to avoid you. It seems like even he can’t resist your bright personality which just makes people like you.
“What do you recommend?” You asked while putting your hands behind your back. You were wearing a pretty baby blue hanbok today with your hair tied in a half up-do. Needless to say, you were very pretty in his eyes. How he wished he could just ask you out. Taehyung didn’t realize he was staring blankly at you until you waved a hand in front of his face to get his attention. He shook his head slightly, only to hear you giggle. Oh, how that simple laugh makes his heart flutter.
“Is there something interesting on my face?” You asked with a soft giggle at the end, finding this whole situation funnily cute.
“U-Uh, no. Not at all. Um, I do recommend the catfish and white bass.”
“Great. I’ll have one of each. No need to cut for me.” You smiled, allowing him to wrap the fishes in paper while you reached into your wallet to take out your money. After successfully paying for it, you placed it in your basket and soon looked up at him again. Taehyung was already looking at you softly and that’s when you decided to ask for his name. It took him a while to answer, but when he did, you smiled genuinely at him.
“Thank you for the fish, Taehyung. I’ll see you again soon.” You said, earning a soft nod and for the first time ever, Taehyung smiled.
Gosh, did he have such a gorgeous smile.
You thought he was interesting considering he was a little cold and unfriendly at first but as the days went by and you met him a few times while buying groceries for your mother, you managed to get some reaction from him. And that very last interaction you had where he smiled at you, made you realise that maybe he isn’t as cold and unfriendly as you thought. Looks like you were slowly getting to see another side of him and you loved it.
However, the only times you met him was when you went to your weekly grocery run at the local farmer’s market. It has been almost two months now and you start to wonder what he does after selling fish during the day. You don’t seem to bump into him at other times of the day except the afternoon. Even when you meet your friends in the evening, you don’t think you’ve ever seen him anywhere and you wonder why.
It was currently a bright Saturday morning where your mother told you there were still food ingredients in the house so you didn’t have to go to the market. However, you still wanted to head out for a little walk since it was a pretty nice day out.
So you excused yourself to head to the cherry blossom pond that was located just 10 minutes away from your home.
You were wearing a rosy pink hanbok today, your hair flowed along with the wind. The sun was shining brightly down on you, sunrays kissing your skin where your hanbok wasn’t covering. The park was fairly empty with not many people around. Just as you were about to head to the wooden bridge, you looked across the pond where the floating gazebo lies and that’s when you saw a very familiar face just leaning against the barrier looking like he had a lot going on in his mind.
You knew he probably wanted some time alone. But you being you, curiosity kills the cat and in this case, curiosity was really getting the best of you. Hence, the reason why you decided to head over there to say hello.
He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t even realize you were coming until your voice brought him out of his deep thoughts.
“Penny for your thoughts?” You asked as Taehyung glanced over his shoulder to lock eyes with you.
He wasn’t sure if he should be happy or upset to see you.
“No thanks.” He said quietly under his breath, leaving you to frown at the lack of reaction from him.
“Is something bothering you? Perhaps… Am I bothering you? Because I can leave if you want. I really didn’t mean to disturb you.” You began to panic but he was quick to reassure you that you aren’t the reason for his lack of reactions.
“No, it’s not you… There’s just a lot in my mind right now.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” You asked out of curiosity but sometimes, you tend to forget people might want privacy. Which is why when Taehyung turns to you with a raised eyebrow, you quickly apologize.
“I mean, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to! I just think it’s never good to bottle your emotions up because you might burst one day when you least- okay I’ll stop talking.” You ended your blabbering when you heard him let out a heavy sigh. You were a naturally chatty person so you tend to talk a lot even when others are not interested in listening to you. However, for some reason, this was exactly why Taehyung liked you. You were different from him. You find everything and anything so interesting even the little things seem extraordinary to you.
And oh boy do you love to talk and find out more about every single thing. Your curiosity tends to get the best of you and he loved it. So when you began to babble earlier on, he sighed not because he was annoyed but because he felt that he wanted to share to you what was on his mind despite not knowing you at a much deeper level.
Taehyung has never opened up to anyone so easily, not even his dad and yet, he felt like he could tell you anything. Maybe it was your charming personality, maybe it was your curious character, or just maybe because he likes you.
“I’m just… thinking about how my life would have turned out if my mother was still here with me…” He paused, allowing you to let his words sink in before he heard you ask very quietly as though you were afraid to click his wrong button.
“I don’t mean to pry… b-but where’s your mother now?”
“I really want to believe she’s in heaven… She passed on when giving birth to me. So I never really had a motherly figure by my side growing up.” He told you, making you feel bad for being so curious.
“O-Oh… I’m so sorry…”
“No, it’s fine.” Both of you fell quiet for a few seconds before he spoke up again, “I don’t have a good relationship with my dad… and you probably know that already. Let’s just say he isn’t the best at showing his emotions…”
With that being said, you accidentally blurted out under your breath, “Now I know where that came from…” Taehyung heard you clear as day, making you stutter an apology but all he did was chuckle. For some reason, he actually felt like a heavy weight got lifted off his shoulders after telling you what was going on in his mind. You stood beside him politely, eyes trained on the fishes that were swimming in the pond beneath you.
“Enough of me… What about you? I heard your entire family tree consists of doctors? Are you one too?” Taehyung asked despite already knowing this bit of information. A little too well in all honesty.
“Oh yes! Apparently my mother’s side are the ones who had doctors all throughout the generations. Except, only I seem to inherit this special skill because my lazy brother couldn’t be bothered to aid people. He said it’s a boring job.” You rolled your eyes at that, only to hear Taehyung chuckle.
“You seem like you love your brother a lot…” He teased you even though he knows it’s not true to a certain extent.
“Love? Please. He’s so useless most of the time. I can’t believe he calls himself a doctor just because of our family background when he can’t even put a bandaid on properly! Do you know how many times I yell at him to disinfect the wound first before applying any cream or putting a bandaid on? He doesn’t even know the difference between a ginger and a ginseng.” You didn’t realize you were blabbering again until he told you to take a deep breath.
“I never thought someone would have so many complaints about one’s sibling this much…” Taehyung said, making you break out into a laughing fit. He loved your laugh. It was always so carefree and loud. He always thought that he would never know how being in love truly feels.
Looks like he finally knows it now.
He couldn’t tear his eyes off you as you threw your head back with your hand covering your mouth politely while you laughed.
This was the first time you ever had a proper long conversation with him and you can say that you enjoyed talking to him. You just wish you could stay here with him forever. However, you remembered your mother told you to be back before noon to help her with some stuff at home. Which was why you excused yourself to head home but Taehyung offered to walk you home.
Of course you couldn’t reject his offer, partly because you wanted to spend more time with him. Needless to say, you tried to take in every minute with him even when you were just a few metres away from your home now. Right before you left him, you turned to him with a bright smile on your face.
“Thank you for walking with me. I hope you’ll smile more often. See you again soon, Taehyung.” You said as the corner of his lips curved upwards and soon gave you a firm nod. However, aside from already getting to have an actual conversation with you, there was just one thing that neither of you seemed to realize up till a few seconds ago.
“I’d hate to break it to you, My Lady… But I never really got to know your name even though we just had a long conversation earlier today.”
“Oh! You’re right! Sorry… It’s Y/N.” You said, blushing in embarrassment when you heard your name roll off his tongue. It sounded so good when he said it.
“Well, have a good day. I’ll see you again soon, Y/N.” Taehyung said, only for you to shyly giggle before running straight to your doorstep. He found the way you bounced with every step you took, simply adorable to him. If this is what falling in love feels like, he wouldn’t mind falling in love with you over and over again.
The next few weeks went by, filling your days with either visiting him at the farmer’s market for you weekly grocery run or meeting him at the gazebo to spend some time with him alone. It was quite obvious that you both had mutual feelings for each other. It’s just a matter of time when one of you would pluck the courage and confess first. Unfortunately, as much as he wants to just tell you he loves you and probably wants to take your hand in marriage, he knows it was going to be hard for him considering his secret job as the Emperor’s guard came with a lot of consequences if he ever goes against the rules set for him.
One of which is having a significant other while having the title of being the Emperor’s secret guard. Of course it was unfair for him considering he’s young and is of that age whereby he wants to feel loved by someone. However, he knows what he signed up for and has no choice but to obey them despite accidentally falling in love with a cheerful girl who happens to be the village’s well known doctor thanks to their family bloodline.
Taehyung didn’t expect any of this to happen when he agreed to the job. If he knew he’d meet you and fall in love with you, he would never have taken up the job no matter how honourable that job title was.
It was a Friday late afternoon and you were just helping your mother with some of the herbal mixture when there was a knock on the front door.
“Jungkook, who is it?” Your mother called from beside you as you heard your brother’s footsteps approaching the door and pulled it open to reveal someone standing there. You could hear their muffled conversation but you don’t exactly know what they were saying. Until your brother appeared at the doorway of the treatment room with a smirk on his devil looking face.
“Someone’s here to see you, sis.” Jungkook said, making you frown. Before you could ask who, your brother steps aside and you immediately locked eyes with Taehyung who had a bashful smile on his face.
“Taehyung… What are you doing here?” You asked as a small chuckle left your lips. All the while, your mother was just quietly watching this with a smile on her face. Taehyung noticed your mother so he politely greeted her before asking her a question.
“Hello Mrs Jeon. I don’t mean to be rude, but perhaps, is it okay if I take your daughter out for the evening? I promise she won’t be back home too late.” Taehyung said, to which your mother happily agreed.
“Oh yes yes, of course you may. I trust that you will keep my daughter safe, correct?” She asked.
“Of course Mrs Jeon.”
“Okay then. You kids have fun.” Mrs Jeon said as she turned to you and grinned.
“Leave it. I’ll get your brother to help me.” This made Jungkook’s mouth fall open, clearly feeling betrayed by her words. You couldn’t help but stuck your tongue out at your brother and made a teasing gesture at him, earning a little punch to your arm but not enough to actually hurt you. With that being said, you changed into your lavender hanbok and soon left the house with Taehyung. The two of you walked around the village, talking about almost everything you could think of.
You didn’t realize this but you were walking towards the park where you usually went to. Except this time, he brought you to the other side of the park where there was a hidden gazebo that was surrounded by beautiful cherry blossom trees and instead of a pond, it was on the lake.
The scenery was so stunning, you went speechless when you stepped foot into the gazebo.
Taehyung silently watched as you got excited over the fallen cherry blossoms and lily pads that covered a good amount of the water’s surface. Your eyes seemed to sparkle whenever you got excited and he loved that about you. He was busy admiring you, not paying attention to when you reached your hand out only to have a cherry blossom flower fall onto your palm. With that fresh flower, you went up to him to show the beautiful pink flower.
“Taehyung! Look! Isn’t it so pretty?” You asked as he gently shook his head to bring him back to reality, only for him to smile softly and take the flower from your hand.
“You know what else is pretty? You.” Taehyung said smoothly, earning a little giggle from you after your heart skipped a beat. Who knew he could be this cheesy for someone who doesn’t know how to express his feelings. No doubt, you remained quiet, suddenly too shy to reply to him. You were just standing at the edge, smiling at the pretty view when you felt him slot something into the top of your ear in between it and your hair.
You turned around and reached a hand up, that’s when you felt a flower sticking out above your ear.
Taehyung smiled as he saw the way your eyes were struggling to look at him. Your pupils are shaking desperately, unsure of where to look. So he took it upon himself to carefully take a step forward just to see how you would react. When he got barely any sign of you wanting to push him away, he slowly took another step closer while he reached a hand up to cup your face.
Your breath hitched in your throat as he leaned closer and closer until you felt his nose brush against your own very subtly. Almost like he was teasing you.
So without further ado, he whispered softly asking for permission which was such a gentlemanly gesture that left you melting into a puddle for him.
“Can I kiss you?”
You didn’t have to be asked twice as you simply nodded and gave him your response. Taehyung smiled, feeling his heart race in his chest. That was all he needed before he finally captured you in a sweet kiss. His lips were softer than you imagined. It almost felt surreal to him. He snaked his arms around your waist, pulling you closer like he was afraid you might slip out of his hands. He didn’t want to let you go. He wished he could stay here with you forever but he couldn’t. He had to go for a special mission tonight in which he wasn’t sure if he would make it out alive by the end of it.
Hence, that was the reason why he decided to meet you now and let you know how he felt for you in case he doesn’t get the chance after tonight. But of course, he wasn’t going to tell you that. All he could do now was pray to God that he will make it out alive not just for himself but also for you. He doesn’t want tonight to be the last time he gets to kiss you, to hug you like he was now.
With that strong will and mindset, he will do whatever it takes to stay alive tonight.
It’s been hours since that kiss you had with Taehyung and if you were being completely honest, nobody has ever made you feel so many butterflies every single time you saw him and that kiss was the definition of a fairytale for you. It was so heartfelt and raw that you feel like you’ve connected to him to a much deeper level now. And for that, you were grateful for him. However, your sleep got disrupted by the loud bangs on your front door. Your parents left after you got home earlier when they received a message from one of the fellow villagers saying that your grandmother was ill.
Since she lived in a different part of Silla Kingdom, they would have to be away for at least a few days. With that being said, you grumbled tiredly while dragging your feet to the door. Unfortunately, you were forced awake when a figure dressed in all black came crashing into your arms, completely limp. What catches your attention though was the very strong smell of copper and the trail of blood he left in his wake down the cobblestones of your house’s pathway.
You recognized this man anywhere, it was the same man you aided two times now who looks to a palace guard. With how much you were struggling, you yelled for your brother who came running down the hall when he saw you struggling with the unconscious man in your arms.
Jungkook carried the man into the treatment room, laying him down on the wooden platform before rushing to the kitchen to get you a bowl of warm water.
This time, the injury was definitely worse than before. He was stabbed in his right rib, his arm has a huge gash from one end of his left forearm to his elbow, a prominent slash on his left cheek and a deep cut on his right shoulder. He was losing a lot of blood, making you panic. However, you weren’t really good at hiding it. You made Jungkook prepare the things you need to treat his wounds, not knowing why you suddenly had a meltdown.
The poor man was growing in and out of consciousness as you couldn’t focus on the task at hand. He was still bleeding out even when you were already putting a lot of pressure on his rib with the towel in your hands. You didn’t know how to stop the bleed, the whole situation was definitely overwhelming for you. Tears were starting to pool in your eyes when all of a sudden, the man reached for your shaky hand weakly. On normal occasions, you might actually think this man was a bad person.
Yet, his touch felt so familiar to you. It actually brought you comfort.
���D-Don’t panic… B-Breathe… I-I know y-you... c-can help m-me… P-Ple-ase… Y/N…” At the mention of your name, that’s when you gasped. No wonder he felt so familiar. No wonder you felt like you knew this person all this while. No wonder his touch felt so comforting.
“T-Taehyung?”
He gave you a weak smile before he pulled his mask off to reveal his handsome face.
You couldn’t believe it but this wasn’t your biggest priority right now. His life is. With that being said, you cupped his face and whispered a promise to him that you dearly held on to.
“I promise I’ll save you but you have to promise me you’ll stay alive… Okay?” Your tears were streaming down your face now, no longer caring about holding it back. Taehyung gives you a very weak nod, only to wrap his fingers around your wrist which was holding his face. Without further ado, you spent the next hour trying your best to treat his wounds and keep him alive. It was tough because of how constantly he went in and out of consciousness due to the lack of blood flowing through his body but you managed to save him and keep him alive.
You left him to rest, knowing he was probably exhausted after the brutal fight. No doubt, you still can’t wrap your mind around him being a palace guard. Did he know what he signed up for? Did he really not care if he would get badly wounded?
After you’ve cleaned up the mess, you quietly went to check on Taehyung who was just fast asleep on your couch where Jungkook placed him. He was laying there peacefully. There were so many questions you wanted to ask him. So many thoughts going through your mind. You quietly kneeled down beside the couch as you caressed his soft cheek where he had the fresh scar from earlier. You begin to wonder just how much longer is he supposed to risk his life like this.
He unconsciously leaned into your touch, making you cup his face fully. Just then, he opened his eyes carefully only to see his pretty brown orbs trying to focus his vision. You smiled down at him, sliding your hand back to thread your fingers through his hair.
“Why are you awake? Go and rest more.” You whispered but he could only smile weakly at you.
“D-Don’t… leave m-me… p-pl-ease.” His voice was barely audible, not to mention lack of any energy. So you nodded. You stayed there beside him the entire night, your fingers locked with him as you held his hand to give him the comfort he needed. Hours later, you aided him until he got better. You cooked for him your mother’s secret recipe to your favourite herbal soup that always heals you from any pain and sickness.
The next few days, you would stop by the farmer’s market to give him two attached steel metal food containers that were filled with rice in one and your mother’s herbal soup in the other, after seeing him work despite telling him to rest. However, now that you know what his job requires him to do, you couldn’t really nag at him considering it was his job. All you could do was give him your moral support by visiting him at the lake gazebo before he goes off to his secret guard duties. Every evening, before he leaves you at your doorstep, he repeats the same words to you and seals the deal with a kiss.
“I promise to protect you with my life. I love you, my princess.”
You woke up this morning to being frantically shook by your shoulders. It was still quite early for you to function but it looks like there was something far more important than your sleep. Jungkook’s voice beamed over you as he roughly shook your shoulders to wake you up. You groaned in annoyance, thinking he was just messing with you. Unfortunately, he wasn’t.
“Noona! Wake up! We got a message from the locals saying that someone from the royal guards was going to be executed today for disobeying the Emperor’s words! I… I think it’s Taehyung.” His words made you jolt up on the bed, staring at him dead in the eyes worriedly.
“What?! Why?!”
“They said that the guard was seen meeting a girl at the lake gazebo every evening and shared romantic feelings with each other. Noona, it’s definitely you and him.”
“Shit!” You cursed under your breath as you ran out of the room to change out of your sleeping gown and into a hanbok. Jungkook decided to follow you along, wanting no harm to come your way. After what felt like hours of running, you finally arrived at the palace where both you and Jungkook had to squeeze past the crowd to get to the front. Only to be blocked with the palace guards. There in the main courtyard, kneeled before the crowd was Taehyung dressed in his all black fit. His mask was still on but his eyes were still the same brown ones.
Except they were swollen and bruised, probably from being tortured last night. His hands were bound behind his back. Your heart swelled seeing this. You couldn’t take it. You watched as the Emperor stood up from his throne and took closer steps towards the back of Taehyung and the executor who was holding onto a sharp sword that was wider than a normal sword. One that was made for punishment.
“I have appointed this young man to be my protector, my guard. He knows the rules and regulations and yet chooses to defy me as King!” Emperor Choi states out loud, only to get a mixture of response from the crowd.
“He’s still young! He deserves to be in love!”
“Off with his head!”
“No one should go against you, Your Majesty!”
“Give him a chance!”
“He just wants to feel loved!”
“Behead him, Your Majesty!”
“He deserves to be punished!”
You glanced around to where you heard those sentences being shouted towards the Emperor, knowing the King can be very selfish sometimes. Which is why he raised his voice to stop the commotion.
“Silence! Because of his defiancy to me as King… this young man will be executed for his actions.” He stated as the crowd began to get rowdy. You watched as the executor began to circle Taehyung until he stopped a little to his right. The minute he raised his arms high with the sword in his grip, suspense was killing you and you had to do something. You’re not going to let them kill the love of your life right in front of you.
Never in a million years.
“STOP!” You yelled at the top of your lungs, hoping your voice was loud enough to reach both the executor and the King’s ears. Luckily, it did.
With that being said, everyone turned to look at you. However, your eyes were stuck on the King and eventually, glancing over to lock eyes with Taehyung’s frantic ones. Everyone in the crowd of villagers were confused. What are you doing? Why were you telling them to stop? Aren’t you one of the Jeon doctors?
You ignored their whispers and stares as you pushed past the guards and continued to walk closer to where Taehyung was.
“Please don’t punish him, Your Majesty… It was me. I was the one who insisted on having this relationship despite knowing his commitments to you. So please, punish me instead. I beg you.” You said, only to hear Taehyung’s gruff voice clearly in distress.
“What are you doing?! Get out of here!”
You ignored him as you kept your eyes firmly on the King. Emperor Choi looks at you from head to toe, giving you a look of disapproval but you couldn’t care less.
“What a disappointment to the family.”
“I’m asking you to drop his punishment because he deserves another chance. So I’m begging you, please punish me instead, not him.”
“Fine then. Guards!”
With that, two of the palace guards came storming over to grab your arms on either side while another guard freed Taehyung’s wrist from the ropes before holding him down along with three other guards. Jungkook was yelling for them all to stop, he couldn’t get past the guards so easily. Just then, the executor takes a sword that was smaller than the one he had minutes ago. You turned around to face Taehyung, only to see him struggle against their holds. He was crying and it hurts you.
“I love you… I’m sorry…” You said.
It all happened so fast. The next thing you know, the sword was plunged into your lower abdomen, leaving you breathless. It felt like your entire body just stopped working for a second. Thick crimson blood began to leak out of your mouth, feeling like your air supply got restricted heavily.
“No!” Taehyung’s voice was prominent but there were two other voices that echoed from the crowd.
It was Jungkook and your mother.
You gasped for air as the guard pulled the sword out hastily, making you clutch onto your stomach where he plunged the sword through. Almost immediately, you fell on your knees like a ragdoll. However, before you could collapse to the ground, Taehyung managed to elbow the guards in their ribs, kicking their shins to release their grip on his arms and soon sprinted to you, catching you just in time.
“No! No! No! Y/N stay with me! Please! Please stay with me! Don’t leave me…” His words got softer and softer by the second as he cradled you in his chest. You were already on the brink of dying, your mind was all over the place. Right at that moment, heavy footsteps came rushing to you and soon, your mother and brother surrounded your limp body. Your mother was devastated, and your brother? He was furious at the King and palace guards.
“My sweet daughter, please stay with us. You’re strong. I know you are.” Your mother said as she cried, holding your face desperately, hoping it would give you some life or energy.
Taehyung on the other hand was furious, upset, devastated, every single negative emotion was starting to surface. He looked back down to your pale face, growing weaker and weaker by the minute as he cupped your face and whispered against your forehead where he planted a soft kiss.
“I’ll make them pay for what they did.”
With that being said, Taehyung gently passed you over to your mother before he got up on his feet and glared at the King.
Taehyung didn’t waste any time as he charged straight for the King. He fought off the palace guards as best as he could, successfully stealing a sword from one of the fallen guards. His skills were extraordinary, managing to kill a number of them despite being heavily outnumbered. It was starting to be a massacre as he killed them off in cold blood. He was so angry that he wouldn’t let anything come in the way of him wanting to kill the Emperor.
“I-I’m s-sorry, mom… I n-never full… fullfilled y-your… your dre-ams…” You said.
“No, sweetheart… Raising you and your brother up was the biggest dream of mine and I got it… I love you so much, my darling.” Your mother smiled through her pain as you glanced over to your brother who was crying beside you.
“K-Kook ah… You k-know noona… l-loves you, r-rig-right?”
“Of course. And I love you too, so please, please don’t leave us…” Jungkook begged.
However, you were slowly losing rhythm in your heartbeat. Your brother held your wrist the entire time to make sure your pulse was still beating. Your mother was stroking your hair when all of a sudden, you began to take short breaths only to then release on long breath.
That was your final breath.
“No… No… Noona, wake up… Noona, wake up please…” Jungkook’s voice breaks as he pressed two fingers against your neck, disappointed to find that your pulse had stopped beating. Your mother cradled you in her arms back and forth as she finally broke down hysterically. Upon hearing this, Taehyung already knows what happened. This only riled him up even more. With one last scream, he sprints towards the King who was just about to run from his throne when a guard came out of nowhere from behind the throne and stabbed the sword through his heart.
Taehyung’s steps faltered as he gasped. His breathing got choppy as soon as he got stabbed. He stumbled back only to tumble down the steps. He laid in such a way that his head was turned to face your direction as he saw your mother and Jungkook crying while holding your limp body. Taehyung watched through hazy vision as Jungkook turned around only to lock eyes with him, witnessing the sword standing up right through his left chest where his heart was.
All Taehyung did was flash your brother a small smile before whispering to himself during his last breath.
“I love you, Y/N.”

Run Run Run - Hwarang Freestyle (Part 4)
A zombie apocalypse breaks out and you’re stuck on a plane with none other than…BTS! Oh, you thought because you were an Army that would help you survive? Girl think again.

Fuck. It’s definitely not zombies driving those vehicles.
Your vantage point on top of the car’s roof was perfect when it came to fighting off slow zombies, their brains rotted and too dumb to figure out how to reach you, but now you and Jungkook were stuck and exposed, dangerously out in the open like two cans on top of a fence ready to be shot at.
It’s impressive how the cars line up in formation, one right next to the other, strategically blocking the road so your group can’t leave.
Men jump out with spears and large knives and work quickly to kill the remaining zombies in the area. You stand on top of the car with Jungkook watching all of it, both of you frozen by the display.
You can tell they know how to fight, how to survive. Thirty or so gather around you, an intimidating group of young men with short hair and dark expressions, like soldiers who just came home from battle after seeing the horrors of war.
They weren’t completely filthy, but they looked like they had been working all day without rest, clothes covered in deep brown oxidized blood. You look down at your own clothes, similar stains across your shirt and pants. After clearing the area the men line up, weapons still poised in their fists, as though they were about to run into battle again…against you!
Well, this is a predicament you did not plan for.
One old man steps in front of them all, and by the way he carries himself you could tell he was not to be messed with.
“Come down,” he orders with a flick of his hand. “Out of the car.” The car doors beneath you swing open and those inside hesitantly file out of the vehicle, the high pitched creaking noises of the metal car frame and gravel crunching under shoes becomes painfully loud as their group stares down your group.
You exchange glances with Jungkook as he gnaws on his bottom lip. He steps down first, reaching his hands out and helping you down, arms kept protectively around your waist.
“Now what is going on here?”
Namjoon speaks, “We are trying to get to the city-”
The group of men start laughing, giving each other knowing looks. What do they know that you don’t?
The old man stares curiously at Taehyung, as if he recognized him. His striking face was undeniable, such a contrast to the weary looking group of men in front of you. Whispers begin slowly amongst the line of men, until one of the men, whom you noticed has been looking at your group stunned, stumbles forward, pointing right at Namjoon with wide eyes. “You’re Kim Namjoon. You’re BTS?!”
Namjoon nods in the man’s direction, but their leader does not look impressed. “So you are,” he says thoughtfully.
“We just want to reach Seoul.” Namjoon says again. “We just want to pass through without any conflict.”
“Bangtan Sonyeondan,” he muses, “Wow, you’ve done well for yourselves so far from home.” He scrutinizes each member, walking down the line. “...with two foreigners…” He scratches the stubble across his chin. “We haven’t seen another group this big in so long.”
He walks back to stand in front of Namjoon, sighing, his expression hardening. “A big group like this must have lots of food. Where are your supplies, Kim Namjoon from BTS?”
Namjoon stiffens, jaw clenching while he thinks about how to answer his question, but the old man seems to be in a hurry, pulling out a large knife from his back pocket and pointing it at the leader.
He spits on the ground. “There are no kings in this world anymore. We all die the same way,” he warns, staring at Namjoon. Your group watches the exchange on edge, fists clenched, ready to defend their leader. You grind your teeth at his words, holding yourself together.
If you were alone, you would have done anything possible to keep your supplies from getting stolen, you have done everything possible. But this time, all you want is to keep everyone safe. You look to Namjoon, hoping he has a plan out of this.
“It doesn’t need to come to that, it doesn't have to-” Namjoon says calmly. “What the world needs now is kind leaders, yes?”
“Kindness...” The man sighs and moves down the line again, surprising you by pointing the knife to your throat instead. “All out of that.”
Why did he have to point the knife at you?! Because you’re a woman? A foreigner? Typical.
Now that he’s directly in front of you, you see the scars across the old man’s face, how cold his expression becomes. It makes you wonder, if he was always like that or...what ever has happened between this moment and the day you landed in Korea has changed this man so harshly that his frown lines are now permanently etched across his weathered skin.
Will that faraway detached look that ‘this needs to be done’ become you eventually, all of you? No, you have already been through so much, and you still find reasons to smile. Seven reasons to be exact.
“Where are the supplies?” he asks Namjoon again, turning his head towards the leader. You look over to Namjoon too, noticing how fright has washed over his features…and anger. The tension is rising, you have to do something quick-
“Uh Hello? Uh my name is y/n.” You timidly introduce yourself, you make sure to mispronounce the words, the way you used to when you first started learning Korean.
Now that you’re in the spotlight, you feel even more uncomfortable. The new group of men stare at you like you’re a piece of meat. “Where’s the supplies, girl?”
“Sup-plies?” Everyone remains silent and you tilt your head, looking at him like you don’t understand. He repeats the question at the group, yelling this time, spit spraying from his mouth.
Ew. “What did he say?” You ask Yoongi in English, who seems to be working out the reason you’ve suddenly forgotten how to converse in Korean.
“Open the trunk. Now. Do it!”
He moves the knife just under your chin, the tip grazing your neck. Everyone shifts at the small dangerous movement, the tension rising once more. You glance to Yoongi again, the member closest to the trunk. If you could scream at him to open the damn thing already you would have, but you couldn’t exactly make any sudden movements right now. Instead you raise your eyebrows at him, eyeline moving quickly to where you want him to go.
Yoongi, remaining as stoic as ever, silently moves to the car and pops the latch up, stepping aside and crossing his arms.
In the tense silence all that is heard is a soft patter of falling items hitting the ground as the overfilled trunk accommodates for the new space.
Both groups remain silent as the old man stalks closer to your trunk.
“What the fuck is this?!”
Everyone turns as the man kicks a very cute alpaca into the street. The old man comes back into view holding an armful of stuffed alpaca dolls and drops them in the empty space between you and his men.
“Where’s your food? Your fucking supplies?!” Technically they were hidden under that massive cluster of alpacas, but he didn’t need to know that.
“F-Food?” you repeat the Korean word back at him, “Farm.” You point in the opposite direction, towards the tunnels of zombies not yet cleared.
“What is this girl trying to say?!” The man yells.
“There’s a farm in that direction, we stayed there. There’s food and supplies,” Seokjin speaks up, following along with your lie. “We only brought our weapons…and uhh, the alpacas…which we also use as...weapons,” he says confidently. “Distractions! They make good distractions.”
“Can’t you just let us travel, Sir?” Taehyung speaks up.
The old man rubs his temples taking in the information and calls one of the younger men over to him with a nod of his head. The young man drops the stuffed animal he was inspecting onto the ground before moving closer. Being the closest, you try to listen to their whispers. They are debating what to do with your group, and by the way they talk you have all clearly given off a very bad first impression.
They finish their conversation and the old man nods, looking over to the younger man, “Tell ‘em.”
“I e-escaped from Seoul. Being there, it was a living hell.” He shudders at the old memories as he explains he was the only one in his family to make it out of the city without a bite. Even his wife-
Well that's not reassuring at all.
“Where in Seoul?” Taehyung asks, curious.
“Gangnam.”
The route you discussed with the guys had the group traveling through Gangnam District. You wince thinking of what’s to come, hoping the situation isn’t as grim as they describe.
“We know it won’t be easy,” Namjoon pauses, “We know the risks and we are prepared to face them...We just want to find our families.”
“You must have a death wish to head to Seoul,” The old man finally addresses your group, “...but…we won’t stop you.” Everyone collectively relaxes at his words. “Wait. Before you leave…we’ll take those packs.”
Shit. You heave a big sigh as the group shoves past the singers and grabs your backpack resting on the car’s dash. You know you shouldn’t get sentimental of things in this post-apocalyptic world but…you really liked that backpack.
“No, this is all I have!” Dev cries as one of the men grabs his pack off his shoulders.
Ugh, shut up Dev.
“And her,” the leader points to you. His men start advancing on you.
“What?!”
You really cannot catch a break, you think.
“We need someone to show us where this farm is.” He says with a smirk on his face.
“Wait! We can show you where it is, we can all go together-” Namjoon protests, suddenly right in front of you.
The man still holds his knife, pointing it accusingly at Namjoon with a twist of his wrist. “You’re headed towards Seoul, aren’t you?” He says, amusedly watching you try to push past Namjoon and the other members who have moved into a tight circle around you. “Just extra room for one. Don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
Before Namjoon and the rest of the idol group can start a fight they can’t win, you shake off the members and speak up. “Okay, farm! Let’s go!”
Jungkook grabs your arm, confused why you were adamantly trying to get away from them. “What are you doing?!”
You push him away more aggressively than you intended, but you were desperate. There were too many of them, someone you cared about would surely be hurt, someone might even-
“Going with them. Why would I stay here with you? And him?!” You point at Dev. “No thanks.” The men laugh at the flustered foreigner, probably thinking you and Dev were quarreling lovers, ugh.
“Stop.” Yoongi looks upset. You wonder what he’s thinking, and you try to convey to him with your eyes that this is what needs to be done.
“Whatever you’re planning, don’t do it!” Namjoon warns in English.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Turning to him, you speak in a softer tone. “You’ll be fine.” ‘C’mon,’ you think, ‘look into my eyes and just go along with it.’ Any other way and it would just end up in a blood bath, they have to see that too.
“These men are not…zombies.” Namjoon looks at you with pleading eyes, but you’ve already made up your mind. If anyone resists, everyone could very well end up as zombies before the day is over. No, you promised Jimin.
This time, you don’t mind letting them go. You found them once, you’re sure you could do it again.
“I know that, I know. Well, err goodbye.” you give Namjoon a hug. It’s the first time you’ve really hugged him close before, he’s solid and warm and you're mentally kicking yourself, why haven’t you done this before? You take the opportunity to give him a kiss on the cheek and a few men whistle. You use the distraction to take both your knives and slip it in his back pocket. “See ya.”
You go to their leader, slowly walking forward, bowing awkwardly. “They just gave someone as pretty as you up just like that, without even a fight. That’s the difference between us and city men.”
Oh, you can think of so many more differences, all unfavorable. You cock your head to the side, “I don't understand,” you say in broken Korean.
“We lived in the city, it doesn’t mean we grew up in the city.” Yoongi says defiantly, his Daegu accent thick in his anger. “And you’ll see she’s more trouble than she’s worth!”
You scowl but catch yourself quickly before the strangers notice your reaction.
“I think I can handle a woman.”

You’re sandwiched in the front of the largest car with the leader and another man. You can see the upset faces of the members through the dirtied cracked windshield of their car. You look over at the young man in the driver's seat, who has been staring at you unabashedly since you got into the car.
‘Calm down, y/n. You’re fine. Just pretend everything is fine and you have no idea what they’re saying.’
“She smells so good, I can smell her from here.” One man in the seats behind you says, staring way too long at your face.
‘You’re a rock. You’re unmovable. You’re not going to break.’
The driver reaches out to touch your hair, and you inch away from him, trying not to show your temper.
‘One with the wind, one with the sky.’
“Look at her boobs. Real live tits.”
‘How long have these men not seen a woman?! Nope, you don’t understand them, as calm as a babbling boob-brook! With really nice boobs…ROCKS.’
The driver moves closer, sniffing your hair, while you remain still, staring ahead. Jungkook looks like he’s going to start swinging at any moment.
“Foreign women like skinship too.” You fight the urge to roll your eyes. You listen quietly, stomach turning at the way they talk about your body. You keep your hands to your side, limiting movements.
The car starts moving and You turn around to stare at the men in the back seat. “Cool sword. Question! Where are your guns? You know, bang bang?” you ask.
“Typical foreigner,” he laughs, he crosses his arms in an x. That’s a good sign, yeah, they just have freaking machetes, great. How the fuck are you going to get out of this? Think, y/n, think!
One of the men in the back seat asks you how to get to the farm in broken English.
Pointing in the opposite direction from which you came, you say “that way,” right towards the tunnel of lurking zombies.
This is a bad idea, this is so so bad.

“Did you see the way they were looking at her?!” Jungkook yells, after the last car disappears into the tunnel. “We have to follow them!”
“She gave me her knives.” Namjoon pulls the weapons from his back pocket.
“Oh god, what is she planning now?” Jimin groans.
“She’s going to get herself killed.” Yoongi mutters. Everyone erupts into arguing.
“Where do you think she’s leading them to?” Seokjin asks. “Ohh-”
The group’s conversation is halted as a vehicle speeds out of the tunnel in reverse, a half dozen zombies holding onto the hood.
Standing on the side of the road, the group watches silently as the vehicle zooms straight out of the dark tunnel, past them and all the way into the adjacent tunnel.
Two more cars zoom out, crashing into each other.
And then Namjoon, without words, hands off one of your knives to Yoongi.

‘This is why they tell you to wear seat belts,’ you think as the world spins. At least the airbags didn’t deploy! The car’s system dings over and over in warning. ‘Yep,’ you think, ‘The car is definitely broken.’
You should have come up with a better plan, this sucks! You might have broken a rib, it sure feels like it.
Once inside the tunnel and darkness enveloped the cars, you waited until there was the tiniest gleam of an opening at the other side and acted quickly, you jumped on the driver, pressing your knee onto his leg, accelerating the vehicle, and pulling the steering wheel sharply, spinning the car, crashing into the vehicle following directly behind you.
The old man puts you in a headlock and your already blurry vision worsens, but you reach for the shift stick in between you and slam it into reverse, the lurches backwards so fast everyone is thrown off balance before you crash into concrete.
You probably have a concussion now, you think as undead growls fill the empty silence between the vehicle’s beeping. You feel the leader rouse next to you and so you force your limbs to move as well.
You find the door handle and open it, kicking your feet, you and the man fall onto the concrete. When you meet eyes, you see how furious he looks, the blood gushing from his face makes him look monstrous.
You crawl under the car, trying your best to get away from him, kicking at his attempts to grab you.
He pulls you harshly across the concrete, but he releases you when a zombie ambles too close, occupying him for now.
You jump up, opening the driver's door. The man who sits inside was knocked unconscious by the impact, so you throw him out.
When he lands on the ground in a hard thud you wince for him, but you also feel definitely not sorry. The men in the back are disoriented. The car still has power, so you put the window lock on and proceed to hold down every window button, determined not to make this easy for any of them. The windows slowly edge down, disappearing from view.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
You yell back in English, “SORRY, I DON’T UNDERSTAND. LOWER?”
One of the men aims his knife for you, you try to move out of the way but he still slices your shoulder. You throw anything loose you can grab from the dash at him and manage to turn off the car lights, grab the keys, and back away before he slices into you again, dodging an undead before throwing the keys down the tunnel.
The men hide on the car floor, but the one who sliced you is too angry to follow reason, throwing himself out of the window to try and catch you while you run around the wreckage dodging zombie after zombie.
The other men are busy fighting zombies. It would be a shame if you just-
You reach over an unconscious driver and slam your fist on the steering wheel. The car horn blares and echoes throughout the tunnel.
“You fucking bitch.” The wind is knocked out of you as one of the men from the other car grabs you, throwing you to the ground. He kicks you in the stomach, his heavy body over yours as he swings his knife above his head.
Shit, is this how you die?
You guess this is how he dies, watching as a zombie latches onto his back.
You kick him hard so he falls backward, helping out the undead man. Rolling underneath the car, you wait.
The howls of the men are echoing now. You breath is raspy, your stomach hurts, your ribs hurt, your head definitely hurts, but you’re hidden and you’re safe for now.

Namjoon never killed a man before. Technically he still hasn’t, the knife wound he left in the advancing man’s shoulder wasn’t life threatening, more of a warning than anything, and the shove afterwards was in self defense. He had shoved him in the path of an ambling zombie, yes, but could that really make Namjoon responsible for his death? It would be a question he would later agonize about, added to the list of countless other situations that were not really his fault but Namjoon blamed himself for nonetheless. Now, he kept moving, kept fighting, and he’d worry about the moral implications of throwing wounded men into the path of monsters later.
As the eldest member of BTS, Seokjin felt almost a paternal affection for the youngest member. It was hard not to, when he watched Jungkook grow up right in front of him, from a shy silly teenager with stars in his eyes, ambitions greater than Seokjin, a young adult, could ever imagine for himself, to the grown confident adult man Jungkook had become now. Even if Jungkook was now stronger than Seokjin, reached his height and could piggyback him with ease, the moment Seokjin saw him fighting for his life all he could see was the small shy doe-eyed child that grew up in front of his eyes. Seokjin grabbed the splintered bat and aimed it for Jungkook’s attackers’ skulls, he didn’t care if they were living or dead.
Yoongi had the strongest preservation instinct of all the members, it wasn’t a question of if he would fight for his life by any means necessary, it was only when. He had been able to avoid it up until now, but it was an inescapable decision, and a decision he didn’t hesitate to make when he saw a man lunging at his leader and dear friend from behind. When the man turned his attention on Yoongi instead, Yoongi aimed to kill.
Hoseok hated zombies. He hated the blood, the carnage, and the horrors of the new world order. Images of rotted corpses, screaming friends dying in front of him, weeping over lost ones, haunted his dreams. He relived nightmares every time he slept, blood squirting from bodies, running down pale green mouths, cut-off limbs, festering flesh, blood-thirsty eyes. He hated zombies, but he found he hated even more, anyone who would threaten his brothers.
Jimin knew how to fight, how to defend himself and his friends. He couldn’t stand the thought of losing anyone, he would do anything to keep his friends safe. He quietly resigned himself to the idea that he would have to kill for them, and then moved on instinct. Jimin did what he had to do to keep himself and his friends safe. He ignored the fresh blood on his hands, he ignored the screams of men he didn’t know, he ignored the pain in his heart and lurch in his stomach at having to do so many horrific things, and he only thought of the moment when he could walk away from this with the rest of his best friends as one.
Taehyung was not a fighter, he could argue until he was blue in the face, but he never liked being physical. He trained with his members, he ran drills half-heartedly, never expecting he’d ever have to use his self defense skills on anyone other than an ambling undead. It’s not that he didn’t expect that would change the closer they traveled to the city, he didn’t know what he expected actually, but he didn’t expect the mad scramble of men with anger in their eyes and erratic attacks aimed for his body. People weren’t supposed to treat other people like this!
Jungkook was athletic, he liked releasing his energy by punching and kicking and fighting. But did he ever want to actually maim anyone? Never. But after everything, after the countless nights on edge, the many losses he endured, the way his group dwindled and dwindled until it was only his brothers left, he would have done anything to protect them. He knew he had the skills, he knew how to, but becoming a killer? It happened before he could question himself. He heard Taehyung yell and he used his skills to defend his brother. And then he heard Hoseok scream and he ran to his side as well. He landed punch after punch without holding back, and even though for nights he would quietly cry as his knuckles healed, he knew he would do it all over again.
It was supposed to be a fun vacation to Korea for Dev, it was only supposed to be for a couple of weeks! He wanted to eat and shop and club, just two weeks! Dev was supposed to go straight to Itaewon after getting off the plane in Seoul, he wanted to get hammered and dance all night and maybe even find a hot Korean girl to take back to his hotel, this vacation was supposed to be a dream fulfilled, not a walking nightmare! He signed up for days shopping in Gangnam and norebang and Korean BBQ, not fighting for his life the moment he stepped foot on Korean soil. He didn’t sign up for this! Why should he have to participate?! Dev never wanted to leave the safety of the farm, all because that girl y/n couldn’t just…take one for the team! This was an impossible situation to be in, he didn’t want to die! The moment he saw the locals running angrily towards the group Dev ran back into the car, locked the doors and hid on the floor, hands tightly pressed over his ears to muffle out the screaming.
You steadied your breathing and decided now was the time to run. The men were distracted enough by the onslaught of newly formed zombies, their numbers thinned enough. So you rolled your body out from beneath the car. You could have run towards the closest exit, the small half circle of the day’s new light was shining in the darkness like a small pot of gold at the end of a long stretch of misery, but you couldn’t will yourself to run from your friends. Yes, the idol group had become your friends, possibly the only friends you had left in this world. The only option you had, the only road you were willing to take, was straight into the darkness back towards them. So you faced back into the darkness and cautiously ran your fingers along the tunnel wall. This time, you hoped if you were to run into anything, it was a dead man rather than a living one.
Before you could run, however, you heard a noise.
The noise was so unlike man or monster it made you pause, made you turn back to that pot of gold, to see the jackpot suddenly appearing before you. As soon as you turned and saw the creature that made the noise you heard, you thought, of course, of course that’s what it was.
You stood in front of the creature as it whinnied and neighed and looked up incredulously, but before you could acknowledge the sight before you, your vision went black...

Oh god, your head is pounding. You lift your head up from the soft pillow placed underneath, and nice silk sheets underneath you. You roll across the ground like a worm, realizing your stiff limbs are not cooperating how you want them to because you have your hands tied behind your back, legs tied at the ankle.
You see intricate wooden fixtures and colorful tapestry and pastel satin draped across your body.
Oh my god, did you time travel?! Have you become the main character in your own historical K-Drama?!
Wait wait wait wait. What the fuck happened?
You turned around and saw…a horse! Yes, an actual horse. You remembered his large brown eyes staring down at you, a sight you never expected. There were lots of horses! And horsemen, that’s right, they trotted from the light and right towards you, had you frozen in disbelief.
And then everything went dark and you can’t remember the rest. Where are you?!
You slowly and painstakingly scoot yourself to the exit, wiggling your body over pillows and blankets, wondering how you’re going to open the door once you reach for it, but your questions are silenced when the door slides open of its own accord. You turn over on your back, readying yourself to kick whoever enters. A man bends over you, befuddled by what you’re trying to do.
“You look good in it for a foreigner.”
You glare at him, staying defiantly quiet. The man before you wears a traditional hanbok, and you almost would have believed you hit your head and instead of dying time traveled straight into the Silla Dynasty…if he wasn’t eating from a bag of shrimp flavored potato chips.
He crouches down next to you, licking the crumbs off his fingers while you glare at him waiting for your answer. “I’m not supposed to be in here, but I had to see for myself, but you don’t look particularly threatening.” He talks to himself, assuming you don’t understand him, reaching a sticky finger to your chin, causing you to flinch away.
“I’m not supposed to touch you, but-” He reaches for your face again and you attempt to bite him. The man yelps, falling backwards. “It’s true!”
You wish your own hanbok wasn’t so long and full bodied, you feel like you’re drowning in fabric as you try to wiggle to the open exit. The man, who is much larger than you, looks actually scared of you, and it makes you want to laugh at how horrified his expression becomes. He quickly jumps up and slams the sliding door shut before you can even gain any sort of footing.
What is happening?! You survey your surroundings again, confused now more than ever, it looks like you fell into an exhibit of Ancient Korea. Maybe those horsemen were time travelers. They brought you and shrimp potato chips to this era, just a short pop off into the 21st Century and you happened to be in the worst place at the worst possible time. Your imagination is running wild now, there is no way...though just a couple years ago you wouldn’t have believed in the existence of zombies either, and the world proved you wrong!
Feeling alone now more than ever, you wait uncomfortably restrained, the feeling in your fingers and toes growing numb. It must be lunchtime, or even dinnertime by how hungry you’re feeling. They surely don’t intend to keep you here until you starve to death, right? You wonder whether you should start yelling for someone to come back or try to escape again, and then decide yelling your lungs out is definitely the more satisfying action at the moment.
You yell and yell and yell until another man appears, he is much older than the first yet he wears the same kind of clothes.
You frown at him, “Why are you playing dress up, old man?”
He looks momentarily surprised at your Korean. “We are on temple grounds, we respect the temple and its traditions.”
“Eh?”
“Our warriors found you, it was quite the surprise to find a woman in these parts, we thought it might have been a gift from God, but now…it seems we were given a curse from the Devil. You are an abomination.” He looks at you with disgust.
“Okay, just cause I’m not Korean-”
“Don’t play coy, girl. You and your friends will stand in front of The Lord of Sutasa tomorrow morning and we will see what he plans to do with you.”
“Lord? My f-friends?! Where are they?!” ‘Could he really be talking about Jimin and the others?!’ you think. Oh god, you hope he’s not referring to those men that found you.
“Don’t worry about that, now if you don’t stop your wailing we will gag you as well.” He says, eyes narrowing.
You guess escape is the way to go.

It must be nighttime, it must. There is a stabbing ache in your gut, the familiar pang of hunger after going without three meals. You haven’t made much headway in the escape department, your wrists feel raw by how much you’ve tried to pull your hands free from the tight rope bindings, and you’ve tired yourself out trying to become more flexible reaching for your restrained ankles. Your entire body aches now, bruised and sore. You’ve given up hope until the familiar guard comes back.
“I have water for you,” he says timidly. The other guards said to stay away from you, that you were diseased, but he heard your constant cries for help, and no one had tended to you or fed you, plus he was too curious for his own good.
This time your attitude is much more pleasing. You sit up and thank him, “Thank you so much, I’m sorry, Sir. We had gotten off to the wrong foot, as it were. Does that, um, saying not make sense in Korean?” You ask as you stare at his confused face.
“You speak Korean…so well!”
“Oh, yeah, that, ha, you see,” you reign in your words and try not to act too smart, “I get uhh nervous talking Korean. You’re just so..handsome. And I’m shy.” You look up at him softly, and he stares back mouth-open at your compliment.
“Sir, please, let me go, I’ve done nothing wrong!”
He looks away from your pleading eyes, “It’s not my place, I have to listen to the Lord-”
You groan, “Excuse me, Sir, um, can I ask, do you not find acting like this a little…odd? I mean we are still in the 21st Century, err right?”
He smiles wearily. “I can understand what you mean.” He studies your foreign features, “I assume you grew up far away from here, yeah?” You nod. “The industrial revolution happened in my grandparent’s time, even I remember how long it took for our town to become modernized. It’s not so strange... Once the electricity stopped, everyone was forced to adapt, and this place,” he laughs. “They found a way back to our traditional way of life that works. I’m thankful to serve my Lord-”
“I’m uhh very thirsty.” You nod towards the cup in his hand.
“Oh! Right! Here,” He tips the cup to your lips. It’s refreshing and cold in your dry mouth and makes you cough.
“Sorry, sorry!” You try to wipe your face on your shoulder, and instead he reaches out to wipe you off with his sleeve and this time you suppress your instinct to flinch.
You can do this, you might not be the greatest seductress, but you are a woman, and you know damn well by the way he looks at you he hasn’t been in the company of a woman in a good while. You meet his eyes, telling yourself to just look at him as if he were-
The singers' faces flash in your consciousness and you can’t help but look away ashamed. Fortunately the guard took your action as more shyness, only inflating his ego further.
“I don’t know why this has happened, I was only trying to escape these bad men, and all of a sudden I was attacked and-” your voice wavers in fake anguish.
The guard wipes away your tears softly. You even managed to fake cry, you're proud of yourself for that one. “I see…this will be fixed in the morning, just wait a bit more,” he soothes. Not good enough, you think.
“What kind of person would lock up an innocent woman?!”
“No one is innocent, not anymore. For you to have survived as long as you have, you must have made some regrettable choices.” He winces, thinking of his own sins before he was taken in by the people of this temple. It wasn’t an ideal situation, but this place had structure, gave him a job and a purpose, this life was something more than slowly starving and running from monsters every day. You aren’t sick or combative like he thought you would be, he’s sure they will judge you the same as him and let you stay-
“I can’t believe this has happened to me!” you cry into his shoulder, “I don’t know what they’ve told you, but I’m just a normal woman,” you look up at him through your lashes, your lip quivering. “Just a lonely scared woman,” you cry.
Okay, that might have been more truthful than you care to admit. You feel overwhelmed, tired and hungry and body still bruised and aching from everything you’ve been through. He moves his head closer to yours.
Up close, you can see he was a quite handsome man, with rugged features and a strong body making him an ideal fit for his position.
Yet he surprised you with how delicately he kissed your lips, mouth moving cautiously against your own, until months of going without the touch of a woman poured out between his lips, deepening the kiss. He moved himself over your body, but your tied legs prevented him from moving between your legs. “Untie them,” you mew into his ears, and any doubts he had vanished when you licked his skin, placing soft kisses across his cheek and jaw.
Once he untied your legs, he pressed himself closer to you, hands pulling up the tulle edges of your long hanbok.
You could have probably gotten him to untie your arms too, but you panicked, and instead you broke the kiss, breathing out a genuine apology before swinging your neck and knocking your forehead hard into his. You regretted that instantly, your body mirroring him by crumbling inward in pain.
“S-Sorry, sorry,” you grunt, dizzy from the impact while the guard lays momentarily stunned. You manage to wiggle yourself to your knees, groaning as you finally find a way to stand. And then you take off running. To where, you don’t know, you just sprint.
You run towards the closest exit, and see guards, and turn around, knocking into wooden walls clumsily. You run towards the next exit, where guards are standing as well, except this time you’re upon them before they notice you, and barrel into them the moment they hear screams from your chasers.
You manage to rather ungracefully make it down the temple stairs before falling down. It’s not your fault! Your hands were tied!
When a pair of hands yanks you to your feet you flail and kick until everything goes dark again. How many concussions can one human endure?

You wake up groaning, this time on hard dirt, painful sharp threads of hay pricking into your skin. Your ankles are re-tied together and you yell one long frustrated cry.
“Y/n?”
Was that…
“Hobi?”
“You’re here!”
“W-What are you doing here?!”
You look around at your surroundings and notice you’re in some kind of stable, turned into a kind of jail. You hear the adjacent stable cell knock on your wall. “Y/n?!”
“Taehyung, oh my god.” You cry out in relief.
“Were you bitten?”
“No!” You yell back.
“They said you were infected!” He yells back worriedly.
“Oh, they did? Well, I’m fine!” You struggle in the hay. “Are you tied too?”
“Yes, they tied our hands!” Another voice, farther away, speaks.
“Jimin?! Who else is here?”
“Me!”
Ugh, Dev, of course he’d be okay. Jungkook calls out to you as well. All except…
“Where's Namjoon? Jin? Yoongi?!”
“They are talking to their leader,” Taehyung assures you.
“What the hell is going on?!”
“They just showed up, out of nowhere like ghosts!” Hoseok yells, remembering the horsemen appearing out of the tunnels once the fighting had ceased.
At first, they thanked the members for stopping those men, as they were terrorizing the area and were in a long stale mate with the horsemen.
“They wanted to bring us back to this temple,” he pauses, looking around at his tiny stable cell, “but we explained to them where we were headed and then...Jin noticed you,” he emphasized, “one of the rider’s had you, you were unconscious, and well, they refused to let any of us go after that,” he groans.
You swallow hard. So it is your fault they were stuck here with you.
“There’s a whole community!” Taehyung yells, “They call themselves, ‘Hwarang!’”
Despite getting captured, Taehyung managed to garner a lot of information from his captor, an enamored fan. You learn the temple was sealed off after the outbreak. The locals and temple workers stayed inside and survived. They were too scared to leave the temple for many months, convincing themselves the reason for their safety was the temple itself. The modern world had failed them, but not this temple.
Obviously, a secluded temple with many gates would be a perfect hideaway from zombies. The idea that it was something more than just mere luck and location was a hopeful story that kept their spirits up, could you blame them for finding meaning when there really wasn’t any? The temple workers had been playing the parts their whole lives, now they really got to live like lords and knights.
Well, it was definitely an interesting coping mechanism, you thought.
“What are we going to do?!”

“What are we going to do?” Yoongi whispers to Joon, sipping the offered soju. “He doesn’t seem…all there.” He gestures to the old man in front of them, who listens to the quiet command of his guard.
“I know, let me think.” He still has the knives you gave him. He tries to come up with a plan that doesn’t involve them.
“Your...highness, can we talk about the woman-”
“Oh yes, her, the girl my men rescued! She’s fine, fine, we’ll deal with her. More importantly, tell me more about your performance at Gyeongbokgung Palace!” An old woman brings a round of refills, hands shaking, bowing to the Lord and Namjoon, Seokjin, and Yoongi. They bow back at her, but she won’t meet their eyes. Everything feels tense and awkward, and the members try their best to remain calm.
“First, your highness, we would like our friends to be released,” Seokjin speaks.
“Oh my, this is just a precaution, my men spoke about how combative your friends were,” he pauses, “You know we can’t have that on temple grounds, I would like to peacefully come to a compromise, yes? Now I know you have your hearts set on Seoul, but it is a fool’s journey. You’re much better off staying in our company, don’t you agree?”
Seokjin and Yoongi turn their heads to stare at their leader, seated between them, eyes closed in thought.

“I got it!”
“Got what?”
“I got out of the ropes.” Taehyung says triumphantly.
“How did you manage to do that?” You ask, lifting your head up from the hay.
The wooden door creaks, unlocking. “I found a sharp corner. Friction.” Taehyung stands in the doorway, a smirk planted on his face. “You look pretty.”
“You look like a prince,” you say, looking over his clothes. He looks cute and elegant in his new robes. “So, come rescue me,” you grunt. You wiggle around, turning over your stomach.
You feel Taehyung’s long fingers work to unravel your knotted ropes. Once free you roll your shoulders, your arms prickling with new blood flow. Taehyung helps by rubbing your arms up and down. “I’m so happy you’re alright,” you breathe out, swallowing down tears of relief. “Let’s untie the others.”
“Jimin!” You hug the idol tightly once you open his cell and he chuckles against you.
“Untie me so I can hug you back.”
“Oh! Sorry, we should hurry, I feel like a guard will come back any moment.” You yank on the bindings until he can pull his wrists out, hugging each other once Jimin is free.
“Don’t ever walk away from the group like that again,” he murmurs in your hair.
“I would have found you again,” you sigh, “They would have hurt you if I hadn’t left willingly.”
“Well, you gave us a fighting chance, I’ll give you that.”
You tilt your head in confusion, “What do you mean–oof.” You feel a hard presence behind you, arms wrapped tightly around both you and Jimin.
“They said you were bitten, I thought I would never see you again,” Jungkook grumbles behind you.
“Guess you’re stuck with me,” you smile, turning around to inspect the youngest. Jimin wore something similar to Taehyung, satiny robes that matched yours, while Jungkook wore what looked to be an uncomplete fighter’s outfit. What happened to your knuckles?” Jungkook quickly pulls his hand away from yours, you can’t help but notice the cuts and bruises across everyone’s faces and hands. “What happened-”
“Shit, we have to go now.” Hoseok calls out when he sees a guard pace closer to the stable.
“Wait!” You look over to the advancing guard and then down at your dress. “We can’t let him alert the others, uh does anyone know how to do a chokehold? I would try to do it, but-” you twirl in your oversized skirt.
Jimin sighs, “I’ll do it.” Jungkook agrees to help, and you agree to act as bait. It was five against one and it went as easy as one could hope for, though you did feel for the stranger once he was knocked out cold by the youngest, your dull headache came back throbbing in sympathy.
“So you think I will fit into those clothes?” You look around in question.
“But you look so nice,” Taehyung says.
“I do like it, not very practical for escaping however. Someone help me trade clothes with him.” You turn to see five wide-eyed men. You groan, “Please!”
“Shouldn’t one of us wear the knight’s clothes?”
“Okay,” you untie the jacket across your chest, “Well someone is giving me their clothes then.”
The group becomes flustered, turning their backs to you and working to remove the guard’s clothes. In the end everyone ends up swapping at least one shirt, a jacket, or pants, until you’re put into a semblance of an outfit that works on your female body, synching your belt tight around your waist. As cute as you felt in the pastel woman’s handbook, this fit is much more easier to move in.
“I’m jealous,” you cross your arms looking over at Taehyung, “The guard wears my dress better than me.”
Taehyung laughs, while Jimin dressed like a guard grabs the last of his things, a large sword, sheathing onto his hip instead. “Let’s go find the others!”

Namjoon Jin and Yoongi were having their own troubles. They listened horrified as the Lord animatedly spoke about all the ways he punished dissenters.
“I think we should have a celebration! Your group can sing, it would really be a great morale boost for my men.”
“What about y/n?”
“Oh the girl? She will have to be executed of course, she was infected, didn’t you know? She tried to bite one of my guards!”
“WHAT?” Jin yells.
“No, that’s not possible,” Yoongi is in disbelief.
“It most definitely has been confirmed-” he says annoyed.
“Your highness can I please talk to you in private?” Namjoon interjects. But a scream brings the attention of the group towards the west.
“Your highness, what is that noise?” Seokjin asks, and as if to answer, a guard runs up towards the group, yelling…
“ZOMBIES!”

Only moments before your small group stumbles upon a discovery.
“Guys, what the hell is that?” Dev whispers. The smaller dwelling away from the largest temple was locked, wooden spears positioned over the doors. However, the familiar low growling was unmistakable.
“I think we know exactly what that is,” you swallow.
“Why the hell do they have zombies locked inside?!” Jungkook asks, horrified.
“I don’t want to find out!” you hiss.
“Well,” Hoseok swallows, “This is as good of a distraction as any.”
This is a bad idea.

“Look what I found!” Now that the zombies were out roaming, you and the group were inside the newly cleared building waiting. Jimin walks towards you with a handful of swords and spears.
“Aren’t those props?”
“Not these ones.”
“You know hwando, right?” you ask, grabbing a spear.
Jimin smiles, nodding. “Never thought I’d have to use it like this.”
“So what’s the plan?” Taehyung asks, reaching for a sword.
You look at Hoseok, Hoseok looks at you. So you look at Jungkook, and Jungkook looks at you. “Why is everyone staring at me?! Do I look like Joon?!”
After a long stretch of silence you sigh. “You said Namjoon, Jin and Yoongi were with the Lord, right? Well let’s go pay him a visit.”

It was night time, it was dark, the only lights around were the stars in the sky and the lighted lanterns scattered around the temple grounds. So if you kept your head down and ran in between the others, no one could really tell who you were.
“You!”
“Oh!” You stare back at the guard you had first met. Jimin runs in front of you before the guard can hit you with his sword, blocking his swing impressively.
Another guard appears with two zombies running after him, halting the fight. You all scatter. Running towards the closest building, you fall inside before zombies can make you their dinner.
Unfortunately, you were alone with none other than-
Fuck it's the guard.
“Listen, I did not want to hit you but you gave me no other choice! Really, you should have expected it.”
“You tricked me!”
You run back to the exit, “Well to be fair you kissed me.”
“YOU KISSED HIM?” Jimin yells, landing a kick to the guard’s stomach as he enters inside.
“Well, I-” the guard lets go of his sword, and punches Jimin instead. “Stop fighting!” A zombie enters after Jimin, heading towards your group. You spear him before he gets any closer. “Stop fighting and help me!”

“Did I mention how sorry I was?” you ask, saving the guard from another zombie. He huffs, but is grateful you saved him. “I am y/n by the way.”
“Park Wooyoung.”
“I’m sorry Park Wooyoung.” You extend your hand to help him up. “It was a g-good kiss-” Jimin stumbles into you, slicing another zombie. “Not the best, obviously,” you stutter, “I mean, you know what I mean-” Now that the last zombie in your area was taken down, Jimin grabs your hand, pulling you through the exit before you can finish your thought.
“I let him kiss me so he would untie me, that sounds bad, I did not mean to kiss him. I meant to escape, that is. Um, Jimin?” Why do you feel the need to defend yourself? Jimin pulls you along silently, until a wave of guards hit you from the side. Literally, barreling into you and Jimin as they try to escape a hoard of new zombies.
You are hit in a particularly sensitive spot on your ribs, still bruised from the car crash, and you fall to the ground, your grasp on Jimin gone. The pain is excruciating now and you crawl as best as you can through the chaos, until you reach a fence, using the wires to pull yourself to your feet. Okay, new plan, follow the fence.
Your crawl turns into a brisk walk and then turns into a quick jog away from the chaos. The situation is quickly getting out of hand, a zombie guard runs towards you and you have nothing to defend yourself with!
Luckily, his head is sliced off before he reaches you.
“Yoongi!”
“Y/n?” Two hands find your cheeks, holding your face tight as Yoongi looks at you in disbelief.
“Finally, I found you.” you smile, relieved. “I-”
Yoongi pulls your forward, hands still cupping your face, kissing you suddenly.
You stand stunned, looking at the soft skin of Yoongi's eyelids, the strands of his messy hair framing his face, until the softness of his lips and his warm calming presence allows you to close your eyes too. You reach behind to hold onto the fence to steady your buckling legs as Yoongi leans into you. His kiss ends too soon and has you following his lips, wishing for more.
“I thought you had died,” he whispers.
“I’m surprised I’m not,” you laugh, wincing as the pain in your ribs flairs up again, “Just a little beaten up.” Smiling as Yoongi wraps his arms around you to steady you. Your head bump together and you can’t help but look down at his lips, turning your head as his nose grazes your cheek, your lips almost connecting again.
“Where is Joon and Jin?” you ask, still so close to him you can feel his hot breath when he exhales, your noses touching, the space between your bodies practically non-existent.
“We lost each other.” He stares into your eyes and you stare back, you can’t look away, his dark brown eyes are so rich in color, matching his intense gaze. “I think I know where they went though. Can you walk?”
You nod, still unwilling to let go, feeling lost in the softness of his skin against yours. You realize just how tightly you are gripping the fence, relaxing your strained fingers. He shifts his body and you finally close your eyes, leaning your forehead against his. It's not the time to be doing this, whatever it is you’re doing with Yoongi. So stop it, y/n! You have to, even if all you want to do is kiss him again.
You straighten your body. “‘More trouble than she’s worth,’ huh?” You hit his shoulder playfully, glaring at him.
“I was trying to get him to let you go,” he says.
“It’s okay, you’re probably right,” you smile half-heartedly.
“You know I didn’t mean it. You are definitely worth all the trouble.”
You snort. “Well he’s dead now, so I guess he couldn’t handle me after all,” you frown.
“I would have killed him if he wasn’t,” Yoongi says.
You roll your eyes, yeah right.
Yoongi fills you in on his experience with The Lord of Sutasa.
“See, that’s why term limits need to exist, even in a world overrun with zombies.”
“Well, I think it is safe to say his little kingdom has fallen.”
“Hmmm-wait, is that...?” You see your beat up car next to the horse stables.
“Where do you think the keys are?”
“You go get them,” you point to Taehyung and Jungkook, sword fighting....each other. “I’ll go search for keys.”

“Jimin, don’t kill him!” You yell, finding Jimin fighting with Wooyoung again.
“I should have known it was you guys, you destroyed this place! My home!” he yells, bringing his sword down with momentum, a strong hit that has Jimin stumbling backward.
“Maybe you shouldn’t keep a pen full of zombies inside your home!” Jimin yells back, sword clanging against the guard’s.
“LIAR!”
Jeez. “Stop fighting! Wooyoung, please!” you follow the men around, pleading, “I have an idea, I can help you.”
“Woman, your ideas do nothing but bring me misery!”
“If you don’t like this idea you can kill me.”
“You touch her and I will kill you.”
Wooyoung knocks his sword against Jimin's, stopping for now. “This better be good.”
This idea was in fact, a good one.
---
“Joon?!” You run into each other, or well, Namjoon crashes into you, knocking the wind out of you in the process.
At least he didn’t hit your head.
“Y/n! Shit!” Namjoon reaches for the temple wall to steady you both, accidentally hitting your forehead in the process.
At least you didn’t pass out.
“Ow,” you wince, cradling your head, slipping on dirt, falling into Namjoon, who, for a former idol, has terrible spatial awareness, falling backwards as you fall forwards.
“Ahhh!”
“Owww.”
Maybe passing out would be less painful, you think. trying not to throw up as you lie across Namjoon's body.
“A-Are you okay?!”
“No! W-Where is Jin?” You do not move, as Joon is pretty comfortable to lie on and it's really the least he could do after he swept you off your feet god-of-destruction-style.
“We were separated.” He says, arms holding you to him before pulling you up. “You’re bleeding, did I do that?!”
The wound in your shoulder had opened up. “Oh, I was stabbed. Damn it feels like forever ago now,” you laugh, wincing again when your ribs move.
“You were stabbed by who?!”
“Not ‘stab’ like-” you make a fist and mimicking a stabbing motion, “More like-” instead of moving your arm you move your wrist up and down, “-that.” You craddle your ribs, sighing.
“You’re really hurt,” Namjoon says panicking.
You nod, “You too,” you reach for the bruise across his cheek. “What happened?” Even if the old fashioned robes covered their bodies, you could tell the group was just as beat up as you.
Namjoon sighs, “You are hurt worse,” he says, avoiding your question. “Y/n, you can’t put yourself in danger like that. We stick together, remember?”
“Trust me, I’m regretting it,” you tease. “We have to find Jin, we have to stop these zombies, because well, technically it was our fault.”
“What?!”
“I mean it was also their fault for having a room full of zombies. Who does that?”
“A mad old monarch,” Namjoon grunts.
“About that. We also have to stop...the Lord of Sutasa.” you gulp.
“Well,” Namjoon hesitates, pulling out your knives and handing one back to you, “You can cross that one off the list.”
Namjoon doesn’t explain how he knows the Lord is dead, just that he is definitely dead and undead and dead dead.

“Jin!” You kick your legs, trying to jump off Namjoon’s back. Jin runs towards you with Hoseok and Dev. You hug him close ignoring the pain in your side. “Did they fill you in on the plan?”
“I am filled in on everything. I wish I could have seen you in a hanbok.”
“Well technically this is a hanbok,” you laugh, and then double over in pain. “I’m okay.”
“You’re not okay.”
“I’m not a zombie.” You grumble, eyesight tunneling.
“Y/n rest,” Jin says softly, holding on to you.

You wake up softly groaning.
“W-Was it all a dream?” you question, looking around at the familiar looking room, full of soft pillows and blankets. You look down at the dress you thought you would never see again.
But this time you were not tied up, except for the tight bandages you felt tied around your torso and shoulder.
You look at the closed door and wonder if it was locked. Hesitantly you call out the name, “Wooyoung?”
You sit up, “Wooyoung!”
Slowly, the door to your room opens up and in walks the guard, but this time Wooyoung is no longer dressed in his familiar guard uniform.
“For some reason I thought you would look more, I don’t know, Lordly.”
Wooyoung smiles, shaking his head. “I like being a Hwarang, but I guess you could say I am sort of a leader now,” he smirks. “I want to protect this place and people the right way. No ‘Lords,’ we will all work together.”
“You’ll make a great leader,” you smile. “Where are my um friends?”
“I can bring them in.” He hesitates, “Be warned, they might be mad at you.”
“What?! Why! Didn’t the plan go well?”
“Oh that’s not why, they were arguing for days who you were going to call for first when you finally woke up. Thank you, by the way, being chosen over BTS really made me feel like a Lord!” he laughs.
“Oh.”
“This is for you, honorary flowering knight.” He hands you a Hwarang uniform.

Everyone seemed more relaxed, which was a feat considering the zombie attack and coup that occured. The temples were open, knights were playing basketball with a makeshift hoop and an old basketball, a ‘forbidden’ item no longer outlawed.
You wore your hanbok until you had to leave, mainly because Jin wouldn't stop complimenting you, and then changed into your gift. The boys wore a mixture of modern and traditional clothing; Taehyung, Jin, Jimin, and Jungkook wearing a similar Hwarang uniform to yours.
You said your goodbyes, back on the road again! Now, with two horses, along with your car. Poor car, it took a beating as well, back windows broken from dragging Dev out, huge indents in the frame from the fighting, but the trunk still had your supplies tucked safely underneath the largest pile of stuffed alpacas you have ever seen.
First stop, a grim reminder of everything that's happened.
You stand at the wreckage, speechless. Dev pulls his pack from underneath a corpse. There were so many. It reminded you of the airport. You try not to cry.
“Did you find your pack?”
You shake your head.
“Are you okay?”
You can't look away from the scene in front of you. You piece together the story of what happened. “This was my fault, wasn’t it?”
“No,” Namjoon says. “This is what happens when men forget their humanity. They chose to act like monsters,” he softly tilts your head away from the gruesome sight. “We fought them, just like we would have any other monster.” You pull his hand away from your chin, feeling the healing cuts across his knuckles. You nod in agreement, because you had to, because you needed to let him know you believed his words.
“They will find your pack, don’t worry.” You wanted to tell him that was the farthest thing from your mind right now, but you stayed silent and stoic, as he was doing for you.
---
Well your bike was run over. You won’t cry over a bike, you won’t.
“Y/n?” Taehyung extends his arm out to you, offering a hand up on his horse.
“You know, I had a nintendo switch in my suitcase. I played with it until it died. I looked for battery chargers, and eventually those ran out of power as well.”
“Yeah?” you say, quietly listening to his story. You lean back against him, getting accustomed to the sway of the horse.
“Then you know what happened?”
“What?”
“I cried. It felt like part of my life was gone, I guess it kind of was, yeah?” he looks down at you.
“Yeah,” you sigh. You listen to the horse hooves clacking on pavement, turning your head to his chest, closing your eyes.
“I won’t say who, but when his laptop died, he cried so much, we were all worried he was going to become dehydrated.” He continues.
“Was it Yoongi?” You open one eye.
Taehyung gives you a sad smile, “Can't say.”
Click clack, you sing a tune to match the rhythm in your head.
“…It’s okay to cry.”
You sigh, gather up your tears and swallow, shaking your head. “I’ve cried enough over the past.”
Taehyung flicks the reigns, using his foot to softly increase the horses speed.
“I have to believe, there will be a day where we don’t cry over these memories, and laugh instead, at how we managed to make it through a zombie apocalypse and back to our families.”
“Yes,” you swallow, looking forward again.
“Who knows maybe I will see my family one day too,” you smile. “My friends. Oh my god, imagine if I told them I spent the zombie apocalypse with BTS. No one will ever believe me,” you giggle.
You liked pretending, imagining a hopeful future with Taehyung. He might just be acting to make you feel better, but he acted so optimistic and assured. You wanted a happy ending, no matter how unbelievable it sounded. ‘We will find a way.’

“The tank is low!” Jin yells out the window.
There is nothing but miles of road and no exits in sight.
‘We will find a way.’

The boys had sat me down on their couch in what I assumed was their living room. It was a massive space with 3 large couches in a U form, a big table with 8 chairs, an adjacent kitchen, and even a beautiful grand piano next to the big windows that reached from floor to ceiling.
Although the apartment was beautifully decorated and luxurious, it was extremely messy too. There were empty chips bags, bottles, and cans spread around the room. The floor was scattered with pillows, newspapers, comic books, and books.
Clearly, they needed a housekeeper.
I got a sinking feeling about what my job here would be...
'Welcome y/n, to our humble abode,' the tallest man said, waving his arm around to show off the room. 'I hope you didn't have too much of a hard time getting here?' he asked.
'Not at all, not at all,' I said nervously, bowing to them. It made me feel uncomfortable that I was sitting down and they were standing in front of me. I felt like an animal in the zoo. Or even more like a dog in a dog show that was being examined by the judges.
'Would you like something to drink?' the tall man asked me politely.
'No thank you, I'm well. Thank you,' I said politely while fiddling with the end of my sleeve.
It was silent for a few seconds, during which all of them just stared at me and I tried desperately to think of something to say.
'Well then,' the tall men finally broke the silence. 'You must've been quite confused, not knowing who you'd work for or what your job would actually be. Sorry about that,' he said, rubbing his neck and grimacing.
'No, that's okay, I understand,' I said hastily.
'You see, we have to keep everything on the down-low. It's really hard to find the right staff members, especially if they know they're going to be working for us,' he explained.
'I understand,' I said nodding.
It was silent again for a few seconds.
'You're... You're BTS right?' I blurted out.
The members chuckled and nodded, some huffed and looked at each other in surprise.
'We certainly are,' the tall man laughed.
'Right... Right...' I nodded. 'I'm not that familiar with the K-pop world, to be honest. But I had some former co-workers who used to be a fan of yours,' I said awkwardly.
'Used to?' The smallest man said, raising his eyebrows. 'They're not anymore?' He folded his arms disapprovingly.
'What? Oh no, she probably still is. It's just I don't keep in touch with her anymore, so I don't know. But she probably still is,' I added quickly.
'So, if you're not that familiar with K-pop, you probably don't know our names, right?' the tall man asked.
'I do know one!' I said excitedly.
'I know Taehyung!' I pointed out the man who was standing with his arms across his chest, his expression quite blank. 'I mean V, I mean Mr, Kim,' I quickly corrected myself, feeling my cheeks heat up slightly.
A funny square-looking smile appeared on Taehyung's face and he pointed at himself in disbelief.
'I've seen him in Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth...' I mumbled, feeling my face getting even hotter.
Taehyung high-fived the man next to him, laughing.
'Well, since you don't know our names, we should properly introduce ourselves. My name is Kim Namjoon. Also known as RM, and the leader of the group,' the tallest man introduced himself.
'Nice to meet you,' I bowed.
'My name is Kim Seokjin, or Jin, or worldwide handsome,' he said blowing a kiss and winking enthusiastically.
I tried my best to keep a straight face while I greeted him.
One of the other members stepped forwards and smiled at me broadly.
'I'm your hope, you're my hope, I'm J-Hope, but my real name is Jung Hoseok,' he said. His face was so bright and happy, it almost seemed to radiate light.
I greeted him happily, feeling a little more comfortable already.
'Hello, my name is Kim Taehyung or V, and I'm a good boy, but you already knew that,' he said grinning wide and waving at me with both hands.
I grinned back at him and bowed.
'Hi, I'm Park Jimin,' the smallest of the group said, waving happily at me as well.
'My name is Jeon Jeongguk or Jungkook,' The man with the eye-brow piercing said, smiling broadly at me.
'Hello, I'm Min Yoongi or Suga,' the man with the kind round face waved calmly at me.
'So very nice to meet you all,' I said politely, bowing again.
'Now that you know our names, you're probably dying to know what job here is,' Namjoon said informally. I was a little surprised by his change of speaking, but I didn't mind it too much and I wouldn't dream of saying anything of it.
'I would like to know, yes please,' I said, still speaking formally.
'You can relax and speak informally to us,' Namjoom said smiling.
I smiled back and nodded, feeling slightly awkward as I didn't know them that well.
'Well, as you can see, the house is a mess.' Namjoon sighed. 'We need some help with the cleaning and such. We're all very busy, so we don't always have the time ourselves. In the past, we tried to reprimand each other when we were being messy, but that only created tension and problems in the group,' Namjoon explained. The rest of the group nodded grimly in agreement. 'We need someone to reprimand us without it creating conflict in the group,' Namjoon said.
'I understand,' I nodded.
'Besides that, we need someone to help us keep to our schedule. Wake us up when our alarm doesn't go off,' Namjoon said looking at Yoongi.
'Or when we spend too much time picking our outfits or in the bathroom,' he said, eyeing Hoseok and Jimin.
'There's more but that will probably reveal itself while you're working. Basically, we need you to be our nanny, housekeeper, manager, therapist, and personal assistant all in one,' Namjoon laughed.
'Not that we're asking a lot of you,' Yoongi said sarcastically.
I laughed nervously. I very much doubted whether I could fulfill all these roles at once, let alone one of them...
'Of course, because we expect so much of you, and need you to be around 24/7, you'll be staying with us in the house,' Namjoon explained.
I swallowed hard. With them... in the house?
I had brought my bag with my stuff because I had been told boarding was included in the job, but I never expected to live at the place I would work. Let alone with seven men...

Shoving your phone back to your clutch and muttering some curse words under your breath. "Are you ready, Ms. Y/N?" Your assistant and manager eyed you nervously. Being mean isn't really your personality, however they know it when you're pissed, you're pissed.
"Give me a minute." You spat as you sit in your black dress with beads of silver, backless and a slit that could go on higher, but your manager asked you that you have to stay modest... at least. Your hair is down and just recently went balayage treatment.
You're whole look was based on the character that you played recently. A protagonist-antagonist filthy rich bitch, that character sticks to you, because it was a roller coaster playing the part. It was so great it landed you in this event.
You've been looking forward going to this award show not just because you've been nominated 6 times and this event is only for well-known celebrities, it was an honor to be invited. But you're secret boyfriend who happens to be invited as well because of his soap 'Hwarang' just decline your proposal to come as a couple or even friends. He made great points on how it would be a bad idea for the both of you and your careers to publicize your relationship.
"You have an upcoming leads, I can't risk that, baby. Besides, we have an album to release and a few appearances on some soap." Remembering his good reasons made you even angrier, not quite sure if on him or yourself. "I know you understand me, I'll see you later."
Huffing over the memory made both Sunhee and Mr. Song flinch. "You know what, I'll go ahead and you guys should... stay or talk it out. I'll assure everyone." The noise and flashes from outside became harsher.
The moment the car door shut Sunhee turn to you, "It's Taehyung-oppa, isn't it."
"Ugh!" You groan and crossed your arms, "I know his right, but I don't want to look pathetic without a date in this event. I should've just accepted Cha Eun-Woo's invite."
She sigh and pat your exposed shoulder, "Unni, don't ruin your night over this- Wait, really Cha Eun-Woo asked you?" Raising one of your brows then nodding unimpressed, she continued with her comfort. "Taehyung-oppa just going to make great points and apologize for upsetting you, that's the downside of being in a relationship with a perfect man."
That wasn't comforting at all, but she was right you can't ruin this event for him (and your immaturity). For tonight, you'll forget about him and just enjoy yourself, with a little luck you'll take home all 6 awards.
Breathing in and out, exercising your mouth because this will be a lot of smiling and finally clearing your mind out of Taehyung. You nodded at Sunhee giving her the signal to open the door, smiling widely as camera flashes, being in the industry for almost 10 years– they don't bother you anymore, the lights. However the questions being thrown are kind of getting into you.
"Y/N! Y/N! Who are you with tonight?"
"It is true that no one asked you to be their date?!"
"Y/N, who are you wearing?!"
"Y/N, tell us about your upcoming shows!"
"You don't deserve to be here!"
"I love you Y/N! Marry me!" You smiled as your fans tried to fight your haters and paparazzi’s comments.
Thanking God after you reached the top of the stairs, interviewers, journalist and big celebrities coming for the biggest social event filled the area. Your manager flagging you with his arms waving and mouthing 'here, here'. Embarrassing? Yes, but beside him is one the biggest magazine journalist.
"Good Evening, Ms. Y/N! You look stunning tonight." She cheerfully exclaimed in her big microphone covered in red foam. "How long did it took you to prepare for tonight?"
Pushing the mic in front of you, she has this wide smile on her face, the same with everyone around you. "All my life! I've been waiting for this, it is such an honor to be invited and be nominated." Exclaiming happily.
"Congrats on your nominations, by the way!"
"Thank you! Thank you!"
"I heard that you turn down some men to accompany you here?" Again pushing the red mic, you glance over your manager who's giving thumbs up.
Shaking your head, "That's not true, I can't think of anyone who wants to be here with me." You joked with a dash of lie and hint of pain in your voice.
"Oh, c'mon! You're Y/F/N who doesn't want to be with you. I asked some actors who's they're favorite and everyone's rooting for you!" She was almost shouting as the surrounding is getting louder. "It's your turn, who's your favorite actor?"
Your face heats up as one name flashes in your head, "As of the moment, I really like Kim Taehyung's performance in Hwarang! I hope he gets lead roles in the future!"
She agreed with you and asked a few more questions, it was going great until your manager place his hand on your back to move to another journalist. You were politely saying good-bye, but she was interrupted by her own excitement, "Kim Taehyung, hi!"
His hands are in his pocket as he strides to the woman who called his name. Hair in perfect curls falling down his forehead, perfectly fitted turtle neck hides behind his long black coat. It's almost like he wore that to match your outfit, he saw your dress when you wear trying it yesterday, could it be?
His brown eyes found yours, managing not to roll your eyes at him for being incredibly hot and not allowing you to flex him as your boyfriend. A small smile form as he scans your dress, Taehyung manages to slip a wink before turning back to his interview.
"Y/N." You snap and look at your manager, "He's talking to you."
You smiled and nod, answering short as you try to eavesdrop to Taehyung's conversation. He laughs low and answer every questions a short as he can. Every time you gaze over his way he would lick his lips, he's must doing that on purpose because he knows how much you like it when he licks his lips, you thought.
"I interviewed Cha Eun-Woo earlier, he said that you turned him down, but you did it so politely. Is that true?"
In the midst of the background noise you manage to hear as the journalist that interviewed you earlier ask Taehyung the same question, "Who is your favorite actress?"
You focus your hearing in his answer, antsy to hear your name come out from his lips, "My favorite actress?" Smirk form as he thinks, "I guess Kim..." He muttered a name that you didn't catch, but you know it wasn't yours.
The interviewer in front of you face falls as your whole demeanour changes. Suddenly you bright smile and cheery attitude earlier vanishes into thin air, "Y/N, are you okay?" Your manager touches your shoulder.
"I'm sorry if I ever offended you in anyway, Ms. Y/N." He bowed his head.
"It's fine, I'm sorry. Just a little nervous." You smiled half-heartedly.
---TIME JUMP ---
After announcing the nominees for the best supporting role you manage to keep your posture as Taehyung's face appeared on screen with others. Still praying for him to win because this will open so many opportunities for him.
"And the best supporting role goes to..." Park Shin-hye look up to the crowd for suspense, "Mr. Kim Taehyung of Hwarang."
Proudness painted your face, forgetting that he upsets you tonight as you clap for him. Taehyung bowed his head when they handed him his award. The room went silent waiting for his speech.
"Thank you, so much this! To Wooga and everyone who's part of Hwarang! It was amazing to work with you guys, I hope to work with you again soon!" His eyes darted on you, however you weren't sure. You've stand in his position before and that spotlight is blinding, but you could feel that his gaze is for you. "To my family and special someone, thank you for your supports! I love you!" He bowed once more and exits the stage.
Claps with whispers roared, "Is he seeing someone?" Kim Ji-won who's sitting next to you leaned in to ask, as everyone did to someone next to them, hoping to get answer if the handsome man is already taken?
Smug played over your face, "Not that I know of?" She just nodded and continued clapping. Taehyung kept his gaze at you as he passed by your table. Now that he’s done accepting his award you can finally go to the restroom to powder your nose. "Excuse me. I'll freshen up, could you keep an eye on my stuff?" Pertaining to your 3 awards that you just won, Ji-won nodded delightfully.
You were stopped by Eun-woo on your way to an empty hallway that leads to the restrooms, “Y/N!” His parted hair and angelic face is really hard to miss with tux that fits him perfectly, “I haven’t congratulated you yet.” He places both of his hands on your shoulders before pulling you into a hug that caught you off guard, but returning it gladly. “Congratulations on 3 awards and 3 more coming.”
“Please!” you giggled as you lightly push him away, “by the way, I’m sorry for turning you down.. twice.”
He rolled his eyes playfully, “Don’t apply alcohol to the burned area.” You laughed and apologized, “You look stunning, as usual. Do you mind taking a quick pic?”
Nodding your head with a smile, he raised his hand to call the attention of the events photographer. He snake his hands around your waist to snug you close, you can smell his cologne which is a mixture of fresh and floral with a note of woody whiff. It’s not Taehyung intoxicating, but he smells nice. You didn’t mind his action because you’ve work with him before as your leading, you became friends with him after that, whatever it is between the two of you is platonic… at least to you.
“Thank you! See you around, Y/N!” You smiled one last time before heading your way.
After doing your business and retouching your lips and foundation you stride on the empty hallway, just you, the muffled noise and your heels clinking. You walk slowly, feeling a little exhausted from smiling, feet numbing on your strappy heels and just plain famish as they only served pretentious sizes of food. So, you weren't really in the mood to talk to Taehyung when you found him going in your direction.
His deadpan expression and side eyes on you as you pass each other made you question the situation. You were the one who’s upset at him for turning you down to come together in this event. Why is he the one ignoring you? “That’s it? You’re not even going to say hi to your boyfriend?” That stops your tracks. “Is it because I’m not Eun-woo?”
Clenching your jaw and turning your heels, “Are you talking to me or your favorite actress?” You can hear how petty you sound right now, but he should know well not to start with you.
Taehyung’s lips formed an ‘o’, “Is that why your trying to make me jealous?” His voice is low as he walks towards you.
“I am not trying anything,” Trying to hold the next words that will come out from your lips was grueling, and you’re too tired to even fight with yourself. So you just let it slip, “Just like you, not even making an effort in this relationship.” The clench on his jaw loosens as he scoffs, “I’m not asking for much Taehyung.”
“I just don’t want any-“
“Rumors.” Finishing his sentences made him even more annoyed, but you kept a straight face “With me? But you don’t have any problems having one with your favorite actress?” His face softens as he sees where he fucked up and realizes why you’re acting up ever since you offered to come to this event as a couple. Why is he so scared to link your names together when there’s nothing wrong with it?
“Y/N, wait-“
“Don’t worry, we’re good.” You strut out of the hallway before your tears fall or he could say another word, you don’t want to look pathetic in front of everyone specially Taehyung. Attempting to compose yourself before you walk back inside the event’s place.
You might sound unfair right now, but you’ve been in this relationship far too long. As much as he doesn’t want rumors, there’s already some circulating. Even his fans loved you for him, his management said its okay for him to be in a public relationship. Since your status as a highest paid actress will help him boost his career, Taehyung’s the only one who doesn’t want to address the rumor and you didn’t want to force it on him. You were okay with it at first, but it’s been a year and you’ve had enough of him being rumored with other women. He might just laugh it off when being asked about those girls, but you’re hurting when he does it to your name.
Having a hard time finishing the event with a heavy heart, you started calling Sun-hee to come get you. “Unni, one more nomination then we can go home.” She sound uneasy, your manager must be with her.
“Fine.” You toss your phone on the table making a loud thud.
Ji-won stood from her seat and excuse herself. Smile forms her lips and winks at you, “Thank you, Noona.” Taehyung sat beside you without giving much of an eye contact. “Don’t stare, just watch.”
“You don’t get to boss me right after you made me upset.” You pulled a face. “What are you doing?”
“Being with my girlfriend.” He side glances meeting your gaze, “Is that okay?” He places his hand on the table where he found yours, clasping it for everyone to see.
“Is this how you’re going to apologize?”
His whole demeanor didn’t change, but you felt him squeeze your hand. “I’m sorry, I was being selfish.” He turned to you and pouted. “I didn’t know that you were hurting. I guess being private and hiding are two different things and I was doing the latter. I love you and you know that, right?”
You stare at him longer than anticipated, so he continues. “I’ll be a better boyfriend, promise.” He is a better boyfriend, perfect even. Now, it aches in your heart that he thinks that. He lifted your hands to place a kiss on your knuckles.
You were about to answer when they called your name, the camera pan at you as you smiled awkwardly. Your intertwined hands are part of being shown on the screen. The cheer became louder and even the host were shock on what they just witness, but she didn’t say a word about it.
“And the winner is,” She let out a squeal, “Y/F/N. Congratulations!”
Taehyung were the first to give you a hug before letting you go on stage. You feel ecstatic, but not because of the award. You can feel your face blushing as everyone cheering for you which isn’t also for the award. You look back on the screen and your boyfriend’s proud face showing, clapping for you.
“You’ve probably tired of seeing me up here. So, I’ll make this quick.” You pant, trying to catch your breath while calming yourself down. “Thank you for everyone who supported my movie and to the staff who work their best! I am truly grateful to be accepting this award! To my fans, as always amazing at showing support, I love you guys! And to my special someone, thank you and I love you so much!” You raised your award a little before bowing.
Taehyung gave you a peck on the lips the moment you sat down, “I’m happy for you.” He mutters on your ears, his lingering hot breath made you shiver.
“T-thank you.” Your stuttering voice made him chuckle. “Stop that, Tae. Everyone’s looking.” You were pertaining at his hand that’s rubbing up and down your exposed legs.
“Let them look.” Regretting that you want to be public with him, forgetting that he’s frisky and likes to see you squirm. He always does this in front of your families and friends, now he has a whole new crowd to tease you. “You can’t be seriously wearing this fucking dress and thinking that I’m not going to do anything about it.”
“Stop it.”
Your breath hitch as his hands went higher, “A string? Naughty.” The table wiggles when your knee jerk as Taehyung snaps your band on your skin.
“Sorry.” You mouthed to everyone around the table. “If you want to go, just say that.” You whisper-shouted.
A bright look form on Taehyung’s face. “I want to go.”
All 5 awards and that’s not even going to be the highlight of your evening.

Your family’s bloodline has been running with doctors all throughout the generations. From your ancestors, to your great great great grandmother, to your great great grandfather, to your great grandfather, to your grandmother, to your mother and now to you. Needless to say, you were slightly more interested in this as compared to your younger brother, but at least there’s someone in the family who would most likely keep the knowledge and skill alive for the next generations to come.
All the local villagers knew you as one of the Jeon doctors. Jeon was your family name and of course, everyone knew who you were for you had begun to slowly take over your mother’s place whenever people came for a treatment. You’re only 25 and yet your mother was already transferring her title to you.
Hence, because of that, you were crowned as not only the youngest village doctor in town but also a very skilled one at best. Despite your amazing ability to treat people’s sickness and wounds to perfection and save lives multiple times, people also see you as the cheerful, friendly, kind-hearted, chatty young adult that just makes everyone feel so endeared to you.
Therefore, people of Silla Kingdom believe that you have a bright future ahead of you.
Everyday was work for you, including today on a Sunday afternoon where you had just gotten back from the local market with your brother to buy some vegetables and chicken meat for your mother.
The minute you walk through those doors, your mother’s voice calls for you from the small room in your home where you treat people. You let out a soft sigh as you turned to your brother and handed him the basket filled with groceries.
“Have fun working dear sister.” Jungkook, your younger brother teased as you slapped the back of his head knowing he could do whatever he wanted for he was free from having to treat the ill. Nevertheless, you went into the small room and plastered a small smile to your face when you saw your mother mixing a concoction into a wooden bowl.
“Sweetie, did you buy the ginseng root and rosemary like I told you to?” She asked as you gave her a firm nod before she told you to get some of it from the kitchen.
After a few minutes of helping to lather the herbal medicine all over the man’s open wound on his shin, you helped to wrap the cloth around his leg to protect the wound from any bacteria. He thanked you and your mother for helping him on a weekend, saying he felt bad but didn’t know what else to do.
“It’s okay sir. I wish you a quick recovery.” You smiled as he soon walked out the door after returning your smile. The second he left, your mother placed a firm hand on your shoulder with a proud smile on her face.
“I’m so proud of you Y/N. I’m sure Emperor Choi would be proud to have you as the village’s doctor once I’ve stepped down from this title.” Her words left a huge mark on you. To say you love the job was an understatement. However, it doesn’t stop you from thinking you still have a lot to improve on in terms of your skill and yet, everyone already has high expectations of you.
This didn’t help with the stress being loaded on you.
“I chose you for I believe you master the skills of a true warrior, one that is capable of fulfilling your tasks as a protector towards me, your Emperor. Am I able to say that?” Emperor Choi says from his throne as he keeps his gaze locked on the young man dressed in all black hanbok, a leather wide waist belt, long dark brown hair with a sword attached to the back of his belt, who was kneeled before him at the foot of the steps.
“Yes, Your Majesty.” The young male said without a single shift in his voice.
“Very good. And I believe you understand the rules then?” Emperor Choi tilts his head up high to show his authority as King.
“I understand, Your Majesty.”
The king smiles in satisfaction before he gets up from the throne and makes his way down the steps carefully while he takes the sword that was handed to him by the Chief of Hwarang warriors. The king stops at the last step right in front of where the male was kneeled, only to raise his sword and make the official announcement.
“By the power vested in me, I hereby appoint you, Kim Taehyung, warrior of Hwarang to be my personal guard from here on out. Do not disappoint me or there will be serious consequences.”
“I will not disappoint you, Your Majesty. Thank you for this opportunity.” Taehyung said as the king smiled slightly before he spoke up.
“It never comes twice. Remember that.” Emperor Choi says firmly before he makes his leave and so did Taehyung.
During the day, Taehyung worked as a local fisherman with his father. After he catches the freshwater fishes, he and his dad sell them at the farmer’s market in the village. Nobody knows about his secret job other than himself, the Emperor and the guards at the palace. He was told to keep his identity unknown to the public to protect him from any outside danger.
Taehyung was known to be a cold-hearted person whereby he was someone who isn’t particularly good at expressing his feelings.
He grew up without a motherly figure in his life and to have a father who is always working, almost forgetting he has a child at home, makes it hard for Taehyung to receive or give affection. Therefore, having almost no history of falling in love with anyone. He wasn’t really desperate in searching for one nor is he currently eyeing anyone in particular. That doesn’t mean he does not wish to be with someone one day.
It was a busy day in Silla Kingdom for the local villagers as everyone was so persistent in stocking up their food supplies. Taehyung was by the side, helping his dad cut and remove the intestines of the fishes if someone requests for it.
He had just gathered the sliced raw fish, wrapped it in paper and gave it to the lady when he heard a cheerful voice coming from where his dad was. He glanced over to see a girl talking to his father.
It was you.
You had a basket filled with vegetables, dried chillies and other food supplies on your right arm, the other hand poking and checking to see which fish you wanted to purchase.
The way your eyes sparkled under the sun while you chatted with his father, how your voice sounded so full of excitement, how you rarely talked about yourself and instead, asked his father about his day, so many more others that Taehyung could probably list out in his head. He was so distracted by you that he didn’t even notice his father holding out a fresh Carp fish to him.
“Oi, are you going to just stand there all day or are you going to help this lady cut the fish?” His father asked as Taehyung shook his head slightly before he apologized.
“Right. Sorry.” Taehyung mumbled as he took the fish and began to make precise incisions to remove the innards. Just as he was rinsing the fish under the running water to get rid of the excess blood, you came over with a bright smile on your face.
“Is he your father?” You asked in a hushed tone, causing Taehyung to look at you with a brow raised.
“Yes.”
“Does he always talk like that to you?” You asked as a small sad pout formed on your lips. You saw the way his face dropped for a second before he replied to you.
“Why do you want to know?” He said.
“I just feel a little bad. I mean, I could’ve done this later myself but your father gave it to you before I could say no. Sorry.” You apologized but was quick to go back to your cheery self when you saw him wrap the fish and hand it to you.
“Either way, thank you! Have a nice day!” You flashed him a big smile, soon placing the wrapped fish into your basket. Afterwhich, you waved goodbye to him and his father. Taehyung watched as you did a little hop every now and then down the street. Either he was going crazy or he actually thought you were quite adorable. Maybe it’s the latter.
A few nights later, it was already coming to 10pm and you were just helping your mother stir the new concoction of herbal medication cream she wanted to store in a jar when there was a frantic knock on your front door. This makes you jump while your mother whips her head to stare at the door. She yells at Jungkook to open the door, only to hear shuffled footsteps making its way to greet whoever that came at this ungodly hour.
Your brother pulls the door open, only to be met with two of the palace guards.
“Can I help you?” Jungkook asked slightly confused as one of them replied to him.
“We need one of you to follow us to the palace.”
“What for?”
Before anyone could continue, your mother came to join Jungkook by the door as she gave the two armed men a polite smile and asked, “May I know what is the issue?”
“There has been an unfortunate injury on one of our guards and we need someone to aid him immediately.” With that being said, your mother responded without giving a second thought.
“My daughter will go.” You nearly choked on your own saliva, staring at your mother in shock.
“We need to go, now.” The guard said, making your mother approach you telling you to get dressed while she packs the things you might need. After you came back fully dressed, your mother passed you the satchel and whispered to you saying, “You’ll be alright.” Sure you’ve treated many injuries before but never have you treated someone from the palace. The journey to the palace was shorter than you think, as the grounds were heavily guarded along the whole perimeter.
You followed quietly behind one guard while the other was trailing behind you. They led you around the palace, bringing you to a room. Where inside, lies a man dressed in all black, his face covered by the cloth mask to show only his eyes. The man was badly wounded. There was a deep cut in his left rib and a slash to his right shoulder.
A soft gasp left your lips as the two guards gestured for you to enter, only to then close the door behind them leaving you alone with the injured man.
Without further ado, you kneeled down beside the man to put your bag down before going to get a bowl and fill it with warm water. You came back to hear the man hissing, to which you crinkle your nose out of instinct as you wince just imagining the pain he was going through. You soaked a clean towel into the warm water, squeezing it to remove excess water.
“I will need you to take these off. Can you move?” You asked softly while you pointed to the belt he was wearing. The man never said a word but instead opted for a nod. You carefully helped him into a sitting position before he slowly removed the belt and placed it aside.
Just then, you remembered he needed to take his hanbok off so that you could aid his wounds.
“Uh, I need these off too… okay?” You asked, earning a nod from him. To that, you helped him with the hanbok, pushing the material off his shoulders to reveal his honey toned skin, chiseled abs now coated with drips of crimson red blood from the wounds.
Once he was laying down again, you started to clean his wounds, carefully swiping the towel over his skin where there were blood stains all over. You managed to clean most of it, rinsing your towel again and squeezing it to get rid of excess water. You gently dab on the open wounds to soak the fresh oozing blood, occasionally hearing his breath hitch whenever the towel made contact with his flesh. You would then apologize if he did that.
You took the herbal cream your mother made the other day that was meant to be put onto an open wound for a few minutes then wipe off the excess, then close the wound, put more cream on top then wrap the entire part with bandage to let the medication act as a protective seal from bacteria.
That was exactly the process you did.
Minutes ticked by and you were just waiting for the cream to do it’s healing magic. All the while, having to listen to the man groan and hiss if the herbs tingled on his wound a little harshly.
You were just preparing the curved needle that’s used to suture open wounds, when you heard him speak up.
“Aren’t you a little young for a doctor?”
You turned around to find him leaning against the wall for support, to which you smiled at him.
“I guess my parents wanted to pass down the job to me as quickly as possible.” You laughed but he didn’t. The room fell awfully quiet again so this time, it was your turn to ask a question.
“Do you do this everyday? What is it like to be a palace guard? Is it scary to fight off the bad guys?” Your questions came tumbling in, you probably annoyed the hell out of him now… Great.
“Yes I do. It’s okay, I guess? And… Not scary at all.” He replied, shocking you that he actually did.
“Really? How do you fight them off? Do you use a sword or something?”
“What do you think we use then? Of course a sword.” He said, his voice laced with a tinge of sarcasm but then you heard a very faint chuckle from him.
You didn’t know why but you felt your cheeks burning. You cleared your throat awkwardly, telling him to stay there while you go get a new bowl of warm water to clean the herbal cream off his wounds. You spent the next few minutes finishing up the last few steps, successfully sewing his wounds close as best as you could before applying extra cream over the wounds and soon wrapping his torso and shoulder with bandage.
Once you were done, you cleared the place and discarded all the used items into the trash. You had kept your stuff back into your satchel and was about to leave when he called to you softly from his seat. You turned around to meet his eyes. For some reason, his eyes looked so familiar but you couldn’t point out who or where you knew him from.
“Thank you, Doctor…” He said, thanking you politely with a slight bow of his head. This made you return his kind gesture and gave him a smile too.
“You're welcome. Remember to not move so much. Don’t do anything dangerous for the next week or two at least!” You reminded him as he simply nodded but you could see the way his eyes creased, indicating that he was smiling behind the mask. He never said anything else as you left the room, leaving Taehyung there with the silliest smile on his face.
Is it too fast for him to admit he’s in love?
3 days went by and you were out to the local farmer’s market again to grab food supplies for your mother. You were strolling down the street when you spotted Taehyung just skillfully cutting the fish into smaller pieces before putting it on the tray for villagers to choose from. This made you smile as you walked over to his stall, making sure to sneak up on him. The moment he was going to turn around and face his chopping table again, you leaped forward to scare him.
“Boo!” You said, both hands were out. However, his reaction wasn’t really one you hoped to get because he barely even flinched. Instead, all he did was stare at you like you were an embarrassment. “Psh, you’re boring…” You pouted, crossing your arms over your chest while you walked to the front to choose some fishes.
Taehyung had to hold himself back from smiling despite having the urge to.
“Where’s your father?” You asked as you peeled the Trout’s gills up to check the freshness of the fish.
“He went to get more.” Taehyung said in which you nodded.
“Do you live around here?”
“Not really. Why?”
“That’s weird. So you’re not from Silla?”
“I guess you can say that?”
You nodded, giving him two Trout’s for him to weigh. He was going to take the fishes and take out the innards for you when you stopped him, “No need for that. I can do it later at home. Thanks anyway.” You giggled, going ahead to hand him the bill while he passed you the wrapped fish. Once again, you left him smiling like a complete idiot.
“How dare you step foot into this palace. I will not let you near the King.” Taehyung seethed through his teeth, holding his sword firmly in his grip as he pointed the weapon towards the group of rivaled warriors who were on a mission to kill Emperor Choi.
“You shall not interfere in our business, unless you want your head off.” One of the men said as Taehyung got into his fighting stance.
“Over my dead body.” Taehyung said, drawing his arm back and soon charging straight to his right, slicing the air to cut a good chunk of flesh off two of the warrior’s torso. He quickly used his sword to block the attack from his left, pushing them forcefully only to twirl his sword around one of it and flicking his wrist up. The enemy’s sword flew up into the air as Taehyung grabbed the base, successfully equipping two weapons.
The fight was highly unfair considering it was 10 against 1 but there was a reason why the Emperor chose him to be his secret guard and that was because of Taehyung’s amazing fight skills. He was trained from a young age, learning and gaining knowledge on how to be a warrior.
However, despite all these achievements and training, it is still quite close to impossible for him to win the fight when there’s so many of them and just him alone.
Taehyung managed to injure half of them by swinging his swords around, slicing and cutting their limbs like it was chicken meat. The sound of metal clinking against one another every time their swords come in contact, echoed the palace walls. He was so busy fighting off two of the men that he completely misjudged the man leaping to attack him from the side.
The man drew his sword back and swiftly sliced Taehyung’s back, earning a loud groan from him.
He quickly plunged the swords into the two men’s torso and soon pulled it out, letting their fresh red crimson blood ooze out of the open wounds. Taehyung’s clothes were splattered with blood, his eyes were burning with rage, thankful that he had a cloth mask on to cover his face except for his eyes.
4 down, 6 more to go.
His back was throbbing, he was starting to feel weaker by the second but he was determined to finish what they started.
Hence, with that mindset, Taehyung glared at the four figures running towards him from every direction only to easily run and slide against the pebbled ground in between two of them and make a break for the side roof. He ran across the roof leaping from one roof to another while 4 others were trailing behind him and another 2 followed from ground level. Taehyung led them to the other side of the palace, away from the Emperor.
Once he reached the other side of the palace, hopped off the roof and swung his swords, flicking his wrist to allow the blades to slice through the air and eventually, the two men’s necks. He didn’t decapitate them but it was enough to slit their throats to kill them off.
Now it was left with the 4 men.
With skillful attacks and fast reflexes, Taehyung managed to stay alive despite the cuts he got on his arm and chest.
However, he was weak from the exhausting fight and yet, there was somewhere he wanted to be. Someone he wants to see in the midst of all this chaos. He wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. If he should go. What if his identity gets exposed? What if someone sees him and finds out who he really is? He was supposed to keep his identity hidden. Even with these thoughts, he was already on his way to the one place he had in mind.
Hence, the reason why about 15 minutes later, he was currently standing outside a home which everyone had grown to recognize and soon knocking on it. The minute the door opened, Taehyung couldn’t help but collapse. A pair of strong arms caught his body, mumbling a soft “what the hell” before the former brought Taehyung inside and soon called for the person he wanted to see most. Not long after Taehyung was led to the small room which was specially made for treating injured people, Jungkook turns to you after you enter.
“Who is this?” You whispered.
“I don’t know. He looks like a palace guard. He’s pretty weak and bleeding quite a lot.” Jungkook said as you nodded.
When you gathered all the things you needed and went over to Taehyung, you instantly recognized those eyes. It was the same as the one you treated the other night when you got called to the palace. You have no idea who he was and Taehyung would like to keep it that way for as long as he could. You walked up to him and walked him through the process of what you had to do before you actually did it.
He simply nodded quietly, letting you do your job. Jungkook left after he helped you stir up some herbs for the traditional treatment paste.
The room was quiet as you did your part, making sure you thoroughly cleaned his wounds before putting any paste on it. All the while, Taehyung watched quietly as you lathered the herbal paste on the wound on his chest. Unfortunately, curiosity got the best of you when you realized his old scars were still prominent on his chest from when you aided him the first time at the palace which was not long ago.
“I thought I told you not to do anything dangerous for the next week or two?” You asked slightly disappointed that he didn’t listen to you.
“My duty is to protect the Emperor at all costs. Do you think I get injured for the fun of it?” His voice was deep and almost as if he was pissed.
“No, but-”
“Did you think I could easily take a break whenever I want to?” He raised his voice at you. Taehyung didn’t know why he was getting so worked up when his initial intentions were to see you and feel happy about it.
Unfortunately, it seems like you didn’t understand his job and just simply thinks it’s easy for him to avoid getting injured. You grew quiet, not knowing exactly how to go around the topic so you opted for silence. After you were done suturing his wounds and wrapping him up in bandage, you gave him a small jar filled with the herbal paste for him to put on his wounds tomorrow. Taehyung left without a word, feeling slightly guilty for yelling when you didn’t really do anything wrong.
Maybe avoiding you for now would be a good idea.
“Oi, remove the innards.” His father said as he tossed the Carp onto the cutting table Taehyung was standing at. He lets out a sigh but nevertheless cuts the fish like he was tasked. His mind was somewhere else, he couldn’t get proper sleep last night after the unfortunate encounter with you at your home. He hasn’t seen you in the past week during the day and he hoped he wouldn’t see you today as well. Except of course, luck was never on his side.
“Good morning!” Your voice beamed from his right, making him look up to see you bouncing on your feet towards him. He could never understand how you have that much energy when it’s early in the morning.
“Morning.” He replied monotonously, handing the wrapped fish to the woman waiting to the left.
“Had a good catch today?” You asked, your voice cheery as usual.
“It was quite alright. What are you buying today?” Taehyung asked despite wanting to avoid you. It seems like even he can’t resist your bright personality which just makes people like you.
“What do you recommend?” You asked while putting your hands behind your back. You were wearing a pretty baby blue hanbok today with your hair tied in a half updo. Needless to say, you were very pretty in his eyes. How he wished he could just ask you out. Taehyung didn’t realize he was staring blankly at you until you waved a hand in front of his face to get his attention. He shook his head slightly, only to hear you giggle. Oh, how that simple laugh makes his heart flutter.
“Is there something interesting on my face?” You asked with a soft giggle at the end, finding this whole situation funnily cute.
“U-Uh, no. Not at all. Um, I do recommend the catfish and white bass.”
“Great. I’ll have one of each. No need to cut for me.” You smiled, allowing him to wrap the fishes in paper while you reached into your wallet to take out your money. After successfully paying for it, you placed it in your basket and soon looked up at him again. Taehyung was already looking at you softly and that’s when you decided to ask for his name. It took him a while to answer, but when he did, you smiled genuinely at him.
“Thank you for the fish, Taehyung. I’ll see you again soon.” You said, earning a soft nod and for the first time ever, Taehyung smiled.
Gosh, did he have such a gorgeous smile.
You thought he was interesting considering he was a little cold and unfriendly at first but as the days went by and you met him a few times while buying groceries for your mother, you managed to get some reaction from him. And that very last interaction you had where he smiled at you, made you realise that maybe he isn’t as cold and unfriendly as you thought. Looks like you were slowly getting to see another side of him and you loved it.
However, the only times you met him was when you went to your weekly grocery run at the local farmer’s market. It has been almost two months now and you start to wonder what he does after selling fish during the day. You don’t seem to bump into him at other times of the day except the afternoon. Even when you meet your friends in the evening, you don’t think you’ve ever seen him anywhere and you wonder why.
It was currently a bright Saturday morning where your mother told you there were still food ingredients in the house so you didn’t have to go to the market. However, you still wanted to head out for a little walk since it was a pretty nice day out.
So you excused yourself to head to the cherry blossom pond that was located just 10 minutes away from your home.
You were wearing a rosy pink hanbok today, your hair flowed along with the wind. The sun was shining brightly down on you, sunrays kissing your skin where your hanbok wasn’t covering. The park was fairly empty with not many people around. Just as you were about to head to the wooden bridge, you looked across the pond where the floating gazebo lies and that’s when you saw a very familiar face just leaning against the barrier looking like he had a lot going on in his mind.
You knew he probably wanted some time alone. But you being you, curiosity kills the cat and in this case, curiosity was really getting the best of you. Hence, the reason why you decided to head over there to say hello.
He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t even realize you were coming until your voice brought him out of his deep thoughts.
“Penny for your thoughts?” You asked as Taehyung glanced over his shoulder to lock eyes with you.
He wasn’t sure if he should be happy or upset to see you.
“No thanks.” He said quietly under his breath, leaving you to frown at the lack of reaction from him.
“Is something bothering you? Perhaps… Am I bothering you? Because I can leave if you want. I really didn’t mean to disturb you.” You began to panic but he was quick to reassure you that you aren’t the reason for his lack of reactions.
“No, it’s not you… There’s just a lot in my mind right now.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” You asked out of curiosity but sometimes, you tend to forget people might want privacy. Which is why when Taehyung turns to you with a raised eyebrow, you quickly apologize.
“I mean, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to! I just think it’s never good to bottle your emotions up because you might burst one day when you least- okay I’ll stop talking.” You ended your blabbering when you heard him let out a heavy sigh. You were a naturally chatty person so you tend to talk a lot even when others are not interested in listening to you. However, for some reason, this was exactly why Taehyung liked you. You were different from him. You find everything and anything so interesting even the little things seem extraordinary to you.
And oh boy do you love to talk and find out more about every single thing. Your curiosity tends to get the best of you and he loved it. So when you began to babble earlier on, he sighed not because he was annoyed but because he felt that he wanted to share to you what was on his mind despite not knowing you at a much deeper level.
Taehyung has never opened up to anyone so easily, not even his dad and yet, he felt like he could tell you anything. Maybe it was your charming personality, maybe it was your curious character, or just maybe because he likes you.
“I’m just… thinking about how my life would have turned out if my mother was still here with me…” He paused, allowing you to let his words sink in before he heard you ask very quietly as though you were afraid to click his wrong button.
“I don’t mean to pry… b-but where’s your mother now?”
”I really want to believe she’s in heaven… She passed on when giving birth to me. So I never really had a motherly figure by my side growing up.” He told you, making you feel bad for being so curious.
“O-Oh… I’m so sorry…”
“No, it’s fine.” Both of you fell quiet for a few seconds before he spoke up again, “I don’t have a good relationship with my dad… and you probably know that already. Let’s just say he isn’t the best at showing his emotions…”
With that being said, you accidentally blurted out under your breath, “Now I know where that came from…” Taehyung heard you clear as day, making you stutter an apology but all he did was chuckle. For some reason, he actually felt like a heavy weight got lifted off his shoulders after telling you what was going on in his mind. You stood beside him politely, eyes trained on the fishes that were swimming in the pond beneath you.
“Enough of me… What about you? I heard your entire family tree consists of doctors? Are you one too?” Taehyung asked despite already knowing this bit of information. A little too well in all honesty.
“Oh yes! Apparently my mother’s side are the ones who had doctors all throughout the generations. Except, only I seem to inherit this special skill because my lazy brother couldn’t be bothered to aid people. He said it’s a boring job.” You rolled your eyes at that, only to hear Taehyung chuckle.
“You seem like you love your brother a lot…” He teased you even though he knows it’s not true to a certain extent.
“Love? Please. He’s so useless most of the time. I can’t believe he calls himself a doctor just because of our family background when he can’t even put a bandaid on properly! Do you know how many times I yell at him to disinfect the wound first before applying any cream or putting a bandaid on? He doesn’t even know the difference between a ginger and a ginseng.” You didn’t realize you were blabbering again until he told you to take a deep breath.
“I never thought someone would have so many complaints about one’s sibling this much…” Taehyung said, making you break out into a laughing fit. He loved your laugh. It was always so carefree and loud. He always thought that he would never know how being in love truly feels.
Looks like he finally knows it now.
He couldn’t tear his eyes off you as you threw your head back with your hand covering your mouth politely while you laughed.
This was the first time you ever had a proper long conversation with him and you can say that you enjoyed talking to him. You just wish you could stay here with him forever. However, you remembered your mother told you to be back before noon to help her with some stuff at home. Which was why you excused yourself to head home but Taehyung offered to walk you home.
Of course you couldn’t reject his offer, partly because you wanted to spend more time with him. Needless to say, you tried to take in every minute with him even when you were just a few metres away from your home now. Right before you left him, you turned to him with a bright smile on your face.
“Thank you for walking with me. I hope you’ll smile more often. See you again soon, Taehyung.” You said as the corner of his lips curved upwards and soon gave you a firm nod. However, aside from already getting to have an actual conversation with you, there was just one thing that neither of you seemed to realize up till a few seconds ago.
“I’d hate to break it to you, My Lady… But I never really got to know your name even though we just had a long conversation earlier today.”
“Oh! You’re right! Sorry… It’s Y/N.” You said, blushing in embarrassment when you heard your name roll off his tongue. It sounded so good when he said it.
“Well, have a good day. I’ll see you again soon, Y/N.” Taehyung said, only for you to shyly giggle before running straight to your doorstep. He found the way you bounced with every step you took, simply adorable to him. If this is what falling in love feels like, he wouldn’t mind falling in love with you over and over again.
The next few weeks went by, filling your days with either visiting him at the farmer’s market for you weekly grocery run or meeting him at the gazebo to spend some time with him alone. It was quite obvious that you both had mutual feelings for each other. It’s just a matter of time when one of you would pluck the courage and confess first. Unfortunately, as much as he wants to just tell you he loves you and probably wants to take your hand in marriage, he knows it was going to be hard for him considering his secret job as the Emperor’s guard came with a lot of consequences if he ever goes against the rules set for him.
One of which is having a significant other while having the title of being the Emperor’s secret guard. Of course it was unfair for him considering he’s young and is of that age whereby he wants to feel loved by someone. However, he knows what he signed up for and has no choice but to obey them despite accidentally falling in love with a cheerful girl who happens to be the village’s well known doctor thanks to their family bloodline.
Taehyung didn’t expect any of this to happen when he agreed to the job. If he knew he’d meet you and fall in love with you, he would never have taken up the job no matter how honourable that job title was.
It was a Friday late afternoon and you were just helping your mother with some of the herbal mixture when there was a knock on the front door.
“Jungkook, who is it?” Your mother called from beside you as you heard your brother’s footsteps approaching the door and pulled it open to reveal someone standing there. You could hear their muffled conversation but you don’t exactly know what they were saying. Until your brother appeared at the doorway of the treatment room with a smirk on his devil looking face.
“Someone’s here to see you, sis.” Jungkook said, making you frown. Before you could ask who, your brother steps aside and you immediately locked eyes with Taehyung who had a bashful smile on his face.
“Taehyung… What are you doing here?” You asked as a small chuckle left your lips. All the while, your mother was just quietly watching this with a smile on her face. Taehyung noticed your mother so he politely greeted her before asking her a question.
“Hello Mrs Jeon. I don’t mean to be rude, but perhaps, is it okay if I take your daughter out for the evening? I promise she won’t be back home too late.” Taehyung said, to which your mother happily agreed.
“Oh yes yes, of course you may. I trust that you will keep my daughter safe, correct?” She asked.
“Of course Mrs Jeon.”
“Okay then. You kids have fun.” Mrs Jeon said as she turned to you and grinned.
“Leave it. I’ll get your brother to help me.” This made Jungkook’s mouth fall open, clearly feeling betrayed by her words. You couldn’t help but stuck your tongue out at your brother and made a teasing gesture at him, earning a little punch to your arm but not enough to actually hurt you. With that being said, you changed into your lavender hanbok and soon left the house with Taehyung. The two of you walked around the village, talking about almost everything you could think of.
You didn’t realize this but you were walking towards the park where you usually went to. Except this time, he brought you to the other side of the park where there was a hidden gazebo that was surrounded by beautiful cherry blossom trees and instead of a pond, it was on the lake.
The scenery was so stunning, you went speechless when you stepped foot into the gazebo.
Taehyung silently watched as you got excited over the fallen cherry blossoms and lily pads that covered a good amount of the water’s surface. Your eyes seemed to sparkle whenever you got excited and he loved that about you. He was busy admiring you, not paying attention to when you reached your hand out only to have a cherry blossom flower fall onto your palm. With that fresh flower, you went up to him to show the beautiful pink flower.
“Taehyung! Look! Isn’t it so pretty?” You asked as he gently shook his head to bring him back to reality, only for him to smile softly and take the flower from your hand.
“You know what else is pretty? You.” Taehyung said smoothly, earning a little giggle from you after your heart skipped a beat. Who knew he could be this cheesy for someone who doesn’t know how to express his feelings. No doubt, you remained quiet, suddenly too shy to reply to him. You were just standing at the edge, smiling at the pretty view when you felt him slot something into the top of your ear in between it and your hair.
You turned around and reached a hand up, that’s when you felt a flower sticking out above your ear.
Taehyung smiled as he saw the way your eyes were struggling to look at him. Your pupils are shaking desperately, unsure of where to look. So he took it upon himself to carefully take a step forward just to see how you would react. When he got barely any sign of you wanting to push him away, he slowly took another step closer while he reached a hand up to cup your face.
Your breath hitched in your throat as he leaned closer and closer until you felt his nose brush against your own very subtly. Almost like he was teasing you.
So without further ado, he whispered softly asking for permission which was such a gentlemanly gesture that left you melting into a puddle for him.
“Can I kiss you?”
You didn’t have to be asked twice as you simply nodded and gave him your response. Taehyung smiled, feeling his heart race in his chest. That was all he needed before he finally captured you in a sweet kiss. His lips were softer than you imagined. It almost felt surreal to him. He snaked his arms around your waist, pulling you closer like he was afraid you might slip out of his hands. He didn’t want to let you go. He wished he could stay here with you forever but he couldn’t. He had to go for a special mission tonight in which he wasn’t sure if he would make it out alive by the end of it.
Hence, that was the reason why he decided to meet you now and let you know how he felt for you in case he doesn’t get the chance after tonight. But of course, he wasn’t going to tell you that. All he could do now was pray to God that he will make it out alive not just for himself but also for you. He doesn’t want tonight to be the last time he gets to kiss you, to hug you like he was now.
With that strong will and mindset, he will do whatever it takes to stay alive tonight.
It’s been hours since that kiss you had with Taehyung and if you were being completely honest, nobody has ever made you feel so many butterflies every single time you saw him and that kiss was the definition of a fairytale for you. It was so heartfelt and raw that you feel like you’ve connected to him to a much deeper level now. And for that, you were grateful for him. However, your sleep got disrupted by the loud bangs on your front door. Your parents left after you got home earlier when they received a message from one of the fellow villagers saying that your grandmother was ill.
Since she lived in a different part of Silla Kingdom, they would have to be away for at least a few days. With that being said, you grumbled tiredly while dragging your feet to the door. Unfortunately, you were forced awake when a figure dressed in all black came crashing into your arms, completely limp. What catches your attention though was the very strong smell of copper and the trail of blood he left in his wake down the cobblestones of your house’s pathway.
You recognized this man anywhere, it was the same man you aided two times now who looks to a palace guard. With how much you were struggling, you yelled for your brother who came running down the hall when he saw you struggling with the unconscious man in your arms.
Jungkook carried the man into the treatment room, laying him down on the wooden platform before rushing to the kitchen to get you a bowl of warm water.
This time, the injury was definitely worse than before. He was stabbed in his right rib, his arm has a huge gash from one end of his left forearm to his elbow, a prominent slash on his left cheek and a deep cut on his right shoulder. He was losing a lot of blood, making you panic. However, you weren’t really good at hiding it. You made Jungkook prepare the things you need to treat his wounds, not knowing why you suddenly had a meltdown.
The poor man was growing in and out of consciousness as you couldn’t focus on the task at hand. He was still bleeding out even when you were already putting a lot of pressure on his rib with the towel in your hands. You didn’t know how to stop the bleed, the whole situation was definitely overwhelming for you. Tears were starting to pool in your eyes when all of a sudden, the man reached for your shaky hand weakly. On normal occasions, you might actually think this man was a bad person.
Yet, his touch felt so familiar to you. It actually brought you comfort.
“D-Don’t panic… B-Breathe… I-I know y-you... c-can help m-me… P-Ple-ase… Y/N…” At the mention of your name, that’s when you gasped. No wonder he felt so familiar. No wonder you felt like you knew this person all this while. No wonder his touch felt so comforting.
“T-Taehyung?”
He gave you a weak smile before he pulled his mask off to reveal his handsome face.
You couldn’t believe it but this wasn’t your biggest priority right now. His life is. With that being said, you cupped his face and whispered a promise to him that you dearly held on to.
“I promise I’ll save you but you have to promise me you’ll stay alive… Okay?” Your tears were streaming down your face now, no longer caring about holding it back. Taehyung gives you a very weak nod, only to wrap his fingers around your wrist which was holding his face. Without further ado, you spent the next hour trying your best to treat his wounds and keep him alive. It was tough because of how constantly he went in and out of consciousness due to the lack of blood flowing through his body but you managed to save him and keep him alive.
You left him to rest, knowing he was probably exhausted after the brutal fight. No doubt, you still can’t wrap your mind around him being a palace guard. Did he know what he signed up for? Did he really not care if he would get badly wounded?
After you’ve cleaned up the mess, you quietly went to check on Taehyung who was just fast asleep on your couch where Jungkook placed him. He was laying there peacefully. There were so many questions you wanted to ask him. So many thoughts going through your mind. You quietly kneeled down beside the couch as you caressed his soft cheek where he had the fresh scar from earlier. You begin to wonder just how much longer is he supposed to risk his life like this.
He unconsciously leaned into your touch, making you cup his face fully. Just then, he opened his eyes carefully only to see his pretty brown orbs trying to focus his vision. You smiled down at him, sliding your hand back to thread your fingers through his hair.
“Why are you awake? Go and rest more.” You whispered but he could only smile weakly at you.
“D-Don’t… leave m-me… p-pl-ease.” His voice was barely audible, not to mention lack of any energy. So you nodded. You stayed there beside him the entire night, your fingers locked with him as you held his hand to give him the comfort he needed. Hours later, you aided him until he got better. You cooked for him your mother’s secret recipe to your favourite herbal soup that always heals you from any pain and sickness.
The next morning, you woke up while he was still asleep. You very carefully got up from the floor, untangling your fingers from his. Careful not to wake him up, you tiptoed your way to the kitchen to add more ingredients into the soup you made last night. Jungkook was still asleep and you were guessing your parents would be home so soon. After you managed to make a fresh batch of soup, you went ahead and freshened up, changing into a fresh new pair of clothes while doing some laundry for your mother.
You were just drying the clothes out in the back when the back door opened and a sleepy looking Jungkook came dragging his feet across the wooden floor while rubbing his eyes tiredly.
“Noona, will hyung be staying for lunch?” He yawned in between his words, making you throw a towel to his face.
“Cover your mouth when you yawn… and I don’t know. Go ask him.” Jungkook tossed the towel back to you before disappearing back into the house, laughing softly to yourself at how ridiculous your brother looked. After you finished drying the laundry, you reentered your home only to find Jungkook already eating breakfast at the table while Taehyung sat there, his food still untouched. Of course your brother didn’t bother waiting for you.
“Thanks for waiting.” You said sarcastically to your brother as he simply chewed on the cracker with a cheeky smile. You love him but sometimes, you just want to throw him into the pond. You glanced over to Taehyung who seemed out of place, making you giggle as you sat beside him and helped to scoop up the rice and soup for him.
You took a spoonful of the rice and soup before blowing air on it to cool it down. Once the steam had risen, you brought the spoon to Taehyung’s lips as he opened his mouth and let you feed it to him.
You barely ate yourself, but it was just your habit. You rarely eat breakfast and Jungkook knows this. However, Taehyung doesn’t. So when he insists on you having a few bites of breakfast, you just went along with it to satisfy him even though he was the one in pain and should be eating more. Nevertheless, after you finished breakfast, Taehyung excused himself saying he had to go help his dad at the fisherman’s market.
This instantly made you worry.
“But you’re in pain! You should be resting, Tae.” You frowned, a whole sense of concern washing over you knowing his wounds were still fresh from yesterday’s fight. However, Taehyung wasn’t going to show his pain nor is he going to sit at home and rest because that makes him feel weak.
As stubborn as he was, you knew you didn't really have much to say considering he knew the risks he would have to face when he first accepted the offer that Emperor Choi gave him.
For that, you simply sighed as you gently placed your hand on his chest when he grabbed for the door knob. Taehyung turned to you, knowing you disapproved with his decision but he also knew you weren’t going to stop him. So he remained quiet as he watched you carefully. You slid your hands up his chest only to cup his face and soon kissed him sweetly. The moment you pulled away, Taehyung craved for more but he restricted himself to just a quick peck before you spoke up softly against his lips.
“Please rest when it’s too painful. I don’t want to lose you.”
Taehyung sighs as he gently pressed his forehead against yours before he cupped your cheek to caress it softly. It took him a while to reply to you but when he did, he sounded so confident almost as though he was making a promise to you.
“I will and you will never lose me. I won’t let that happen.” With that being said, Taehyung gave you one final long kiss before he walked out the door.
The next few days were filled with you going to the farmer’s market, only to give him two metal containers filled with rice and your mother’s herbal soup in exchange for raw fish. Every time you went there, you had to secretly give Taehyung the food since his father doesn’t know about your relationship with him. And every late evening, approximately an hour before he goes off to be a secret guard for the King, you would meet up with him at the Lake Gazebo which had become your dating spot, hidden away from the public eye that only you and him knew about.
You were thankful that he healed quite fast but this only meant he would be exposed to more threats and dangers in the days to come. Even so, you never lost hope that he would return home to you safe and in one piece. Today was no different as you stood by the edge just admiring the pretty water lilies decorating the lake’s surface when suddenly, you got engulfed into a warm embrace that was all too familiar to you by now.
His distinct scent fills your sensitive nostrils as he begins to kiss your neck, hugging you close against him.
You start to giggle when you feel him tickle your sides, making you turn around. Taehyung grins from ear to ear, pressing his forehead against yours softly just basking in the silence when he then cups your cheek and said to you, “I’m starting to think you’re the reason why I’m always walking out of the palace with cuts on me.”
You raised your eyebrows at him, feeling intrigued by his choice of words. Wanting to know where he was going with this.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You asked as you played with his soft brown locks that cascaded effortlessly down his shoulders. Even his hair was nicer than yours.
“That way I have a valid reason to come see you more often than just at the market and here.”
“But my heart hurts having to aid your cuts and wounds…” You pouted as Taehyung chuckled, playfully giving you a few kisses at a time earning a soft giggle from you. He hugs your waist, lifting you up and spinning you around before placing you back down. His heart felt so full and content.
“But my heart hurts even more not being around you.” He said with a hint of sadness in his tone, making you giggle.
“Fine, you win. But please try and minimize the injuries. My heart still aches having to see it.” You said as you buried your face into his chest while you felt him kiss the top of your head gently. Both of you stayed like that for a few seconds before he smiled to himself. He has never felt this way. He has never felt so alive. With that being said, Taehyung pulls away from you, knowing it was now or never. The last thing he wanted was for you to fall in the hands of someone else despite knowing that most likely would never happen in a million years.
However, it’s better to be safe than sorry, am I right?
Hence, the moment he started to kneel down on one knee, you stared in utter bewilderment.
Wait a minute.
“My sweetheart Y/N... The minute I first saw you, I knew… I knew you were the one. You were so bright that anyone could spot you from a mile away. You’re the sweetest, most pure, kindest, brightest, Lord you’re literally the most amazing girl I have ever laid my eyes on. You taught me how to feel like I belong in this world. You taught me how to feel alive. You taught me how to step out of my comfort zone. But most importantly, you taught me how to love. And for that, I will be forever grateful for you. Therefore, My Lady, will you accept my hand in marriage?” He asked, smiling when he realized you were crying now.
“Yes! Yes! Yes!” You said as he stood up and kissed you after slotting the ring into your ring finger. A thousand emotions were swirling around in your mind and body, unable to believe this was reality. You were so overwhelmed that you didn’t even realize he was laughing softly at how stoned you were at the moment.
“Are you okay, My Lady?” He teased, earning a nod from you.
Taehyung laughed again from your lack of verbal response, only to kiss you again and soon locked fingers with you as he walked you back home.
The walk home was just peacefully quiet as your mind was still swimming with the thoughts of you being proposed by him. It’s not that you don’t want to be married to him. Hell you already thought of marrying him the first time you realized you fell in love with him. It’s just the feeling of excitement and shock engulfing you all at once. Nevertheless, he walked you back to your house, stopping right outside your doorstep. With one last kiss before he left for his guarding duties, Taehyung pulled away and repeated the same words to you just like he does every other evening.
“I promise to protect you with my life. I love you, my princess.”

5 years went by so fast, it felt like just yesterday you first saw your beloved husband at the farmer’s market. The cold-hearted, unfriendly fisherman’s son who works as a fish slicer. Who knew you’d be married to him and now, 5 years later, marriage is still growing strong but with little addition to your family.
“Mommy!” Your 4 year old daughter’s voice rang through your cottage home as she ran into the kitchen only to bounce on her feet excitedly.
“What time is daddy coming home?” She asked with her adorable doe eyes just staring at you innocently. Right before you could answer her, you saw the front door open and soon, Taehyung walked in only to see the way you smiled at him and soon spoke up to someone that was being blocked by the cabinets.
“Why don’t you ask him yourself, darling?” You said as Taehyung soon came round the corner to scoop your daughter off the ground, earning high pitched giggles from the little girl.
Your heart warms seeing him interact with her after a few days of barely spending time with her. You knew how tough his job can be but you were more than thankful that he still helps you out whenever he can with the house and also your child. You understand his situation so you never once got upset if he couldn’t come home to you and your daughter. The only thing you prayed for everyday and night is only one thing and one thing only.
Is for him to come home to you and your daughter in one piece.
