While I am very surprised Daisy didn't make it to the second round, Chara kind of makes sense to me (as someone who submitted them).

First, everything has kind of settled down since the peak of Undertale's popularity.

Second, thinking back on it, the controversy was never "do you like them or not?" it was mostly "what characterization do you like for them?" They were controversial because they were so vague and had so many differing interpretations and people would get mad when someone presented them in a way that didn't line up with preconceived notions. But if you ask someone "do you like Chara?" of course they're going to think of their interpretation of Chara.

I'm really curious how many of the other characters with a lot of submissions that kind of thing applies to. A lot of people probably thought "oh I've seen Arguements about character x" and submitted whether the Arguments were between someone who loved the character and someone who hated them or if they were between two people who loved them in different ways. (I feel like that kind of thing is much more common with love verses hate)

Yeah exactly, tbh this is half of the fun and I get excited when I see people argue about interpretations. It’s fascinating to hear both sides of what sounds like they’re talking about a completely different character

The post you thought was about my little pony. Yeah I probably would have too if I wasn't specifically looking in the tags for what it actually was. Luna and Mafuyu aren't really that similar (imo Mafuyu is closer to Twilight(still not really)) but you've got me thinking about Celestia and Shizuku and I didn't watch the later seasons of MLP so I could be wrong but like. Shizuku felt like she had to be perfect and couldn't make a single mistake. She felt like allowing herself to be imperfect was letting everyone who looked up to her down. She just wanted to do the best thing but she felt cornered and like she didn't have anyone to talk to about it.

oooh yeah! celestia 100% had a ton of responsibility on her shoulders and it canonically stressed her out. and she felt disconnected from everyone else because of it. iirc there were a couple episodes that touched on this. one was the episode where starlight switched celestia and luna's cutie marks and they had to take on each others roles for the day, and luna found out just how strict the expectations and responsibilities on her sister were. (celestia also found out that luna's life wasnt easy and fun either. but we're talking about celestia here.) the other was the one where luna and celestia tried to take a vacation and celestia was over the MOON that she got to act "normal" for a few days. though she was bad at it, lol. and celestia in general doesnt really have anyone to turn to, except maybe luna, but luna is her little sister and has already been thru a lot. in s3e1 (which i just watched, hehe) i noticed that celestia told twilight she'd always be there for her, and also added "and i hope you will be there for me when i need you." this was right after twi became a princess. it was said very casually but seemed a little out of place compared to the slighty aloof, all powerful princess we saw before... i think she was very grateful to have someone else close to her level who she felt she could be vulnerable with and turn to for help... bt the thing is, she doesnt lean on twilight emotionally or open up to her much throughout the rest of the show. so i kinda get the vibe that she WANTS to lean on people but when it actually comes time to ask for help, maybe she's not able to.

god, i didnt expect to analyze celestia so much-- she's never been a favorite of mine, but the great thing about mlp is that theres something worth looking into for pretty much all the characters. its a very character driven show. idk where im going with this now so im going to end it there 👍

Hey hey symbolism with hiding faces and it has much to do with dishonesty but tbh it's also lack of solid identity.

Garroth knows what he doesn't want to be. He doesn't want to be married to the daughter of scaleswind, he doesn't want to be heir to o'khasis, he doesn't want to be a pawn in Garte and Zane's games. He doesn't know what he does want to be. He doesn't know what he is. He only knows that he can't be what he was raised to be his entire life.

The dynamic is under explored but Zane was very much grown into the role he's in by Garte. To say he's just a puppet may be a bit far, but he disappears for 15 years and nothing really changes. (Which we both know I think is bad writing but it's good for this argument) He's exactly what he's supposed to be, he's the perfect child. But is that really who he is? Is he just fulfilling a role? Since Zane is an antagonist we get the littlest view of his inner world but he sees people as pawns in a game, he has no respect for individuality, and maybe some of that stems from not having any of his own.

Vylad,,, my boy,,, he sees himself as a weapon, a tool. Do I even need to elaborate on his identity issues? He sees himself as something to be used to accomplish a purpose, tied to someone else. He doesn't even let himself set his own goals, he has to be in service to someone. Perhaps he chooses that someone but still. He's had every bit of individuality squashed out of him for so long and he's afraid of himself. He's afraid that if he's allowed to be a person, it won't be a good one. So he fashions himself into a weapon, and why would a weapon need a face?

vylad i am obsessed with all of this. this is so good. i am chewing on it

especially the zane one?!? oh my gods i never thought of it that way. one thing about zane is that i've never really seen a satisfactory motivation for him to act the way he does, but that is so interesting. i love it

I think I just reblogged the crab post? It was someone who had absorbed tma from their friends posting about it and they saw fanart of Mr. Spider and went nuts with the crab assumption they made? Unless there are two separate Crab Genesis

Every single member of the Ro'Meave family has a different strong accent

okay but actually though,

garte has that all american guy thing going for him i think he has that country kinda twang (i don't,, care about actual voice actors accept kestin & andy rn), zianna can't not be that posh kinda rich girl slightly but not fully british british accent, garroth has a strong british accent, zane has that menacing i'm better then you way of speaking, and vylad can't not have a slight france accept because he likes being there/likes the version of himself there more. this isn't to mention garroth's stutter or zane's slight lisp that i love including.

I get some duplicate submissions, but usually I just search the blog to see if it’s already on there. Also, though I would prefer not to have duplicates, it isn’t the end of the world if something ends up on here twice.
