Better Bones Profile: Shredtail
[ID: A version of Shredtail from Warriors. He is a thick, spiky-furred, solid brown cat with prickly whiskers, a tattered white tail, and red scars. He is holding a spear with white and yellow twine.]
A guy whose mate and kits got eaten by a pig and he was VERY normal about it. He made a very normal weapon for the occasion. He normally hunted down a gigantic white boar for the rest of his life and revolutionized hog hunting in ThunderClan.
Shredtail didn't only target the grand boar Deadfrost; he aimed for any hog with a fleck of white on its body. If he would have no bloodline, then neither would it.
His obsessive quest for vengeance to kill Deadfrost eventually lead to him using a clanmate as bait to slaughter the beast. He died with his spear snapped and jammed in two places within the hog's hide, taking down his old foe with him.
Alignment: Dark Forest, ex-ThunderClan.
Time Period: Code Era
Relations: Unnamed mate, unnamed kits
His addition to the Dark Forest is Deadfrost's Hollow, a mazelike thicket where a giant white boar gives endless chase. With enough taunting, Deadfrost can break out of the hollow and terrorize the cats in the Dark Forest.
(more below the cut)
No more evil brown tabbies. Society has progressed passed the need for evil brown tabbies. Solid brown with white highlights.
Dark Forest cats need more types of motivations and new stories! Canon Shredtail has nothing written about him besides being very old, so I've decided to build something very relevant to Better Bones.
Shredtail was a huge innovator in hog hunting, and his techniques are still used to this day. He's only slightly younger than Cloudberry and Ryewhisker.
Traps, baiting, and spear-craft. Shredtail had a paw in creating or perfecting the creation of these things.
After leading his first successful boar hunt after the death of his family, he earned an Honor Title. His name went from Thornwhisker to Shredtail.
He is a highly valued member of Tigerstar's Dark Forest coalition, because of his innovative mind.
Shredtail was behind the technical plotting of Firestar's murder (but not the idea). It's nothing personal, but he wants Godhood just as much as his cohorts.
He's ruthless and dedicated. He believes strongly in the value of patience. His presence can be intense.
This is a warrior who is both huge and intelligent.
When asked about what he wants to do with godhood, his voice grows soft. "...I want to craft kittens."
The cross below the arrowhead is called a "lug." It's there to stop an impaled boar from pushing further down the shaft to get you. This was one of Shredtail's first improvements.
Yellow twine is for ThunderClan, white twine is for his mate.
The spear is something I'm going to refine the design of over time, this is a first draft.
Shredtail is based a little bit on Captain Ahab because I think that is very funny. The white boar, the obsession, the going down with it. Good stuff.
Today, weapons are typically only used for boars! Blades are considered a highly dishonorable battle tactic, and usually their claws are sharp enough to be as lethal as they want them to be. Shredtail tainted the association of spears forever.
He doesn't really do 'politics,' he just wants results and will work with anyone who can provide them.
So he doesn't care what Tigerstar actually wants or believes, if it means entry into StarClan.

Characters for you soup!!!!!
Sirius and Ron!!!
SIRIUS AND RON LETS GO!!!!!
How I feel about this character:
Sirius — my absolute favourite. I’ve loved him for years and became vaguely intrigued the moment I read Hagrid say his ‘unusual’ name in Philosopher’s Stone (I think I was ten? So 14 years now). He’s a humongous prick he’s highly intelligent he’s hot and uninterested in basically everybody. I need him to be characterised well in fic: far too often he’s written as unhinged in a childish way, which is just Not It. I love it when he makes mistakes in spite of his competency and the mistakes actually make sense (for the situation, his age, his prejudices, etc). He’s so violently his own person and he should be allowed to be.
Ron — Won-Won my beloved. The James to Harry’s Sirius. Ride or die as long as he doesn’t let his insecurities get the better of him. Intelligent little shit who hates studying if he’s not interested in it. Character development King. He’s got so much depth that Ron-bashing fics need to fully mischaracterise him in order to make it viable (and then it still isn’t really). He’s had his bad moments (fourth year and the horcrux hunt comes to mind), but he always comes ‘round again, even if I wish the issues were talked out more. The series wouldn’t be the same without him.
Who I ship romantically with this character:
Sirius — James, obviously. Lily, but usually in a triad with James. Harry, sometimes. Well-written OC’s. Voldemort. Bellatrix, Narcissa. Marlene McKinnon too, though it’s been quite some time since I read any Blackinnon. I like him with Kingsley as well.
Ron — Hermione, Harry, Pansy, Viktor Krum, Lavender. Sometimes an intriguing OC. Draco, when he’s redeemed. I’ve read Ron/Blaise and had a blast.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Sirius — Oh gosh, probably Remus,,, but in a non-romantic Prongsfoot situation it’s James.
Ron — Hermione and Harry 100%… though I love a Ron&Draco (post-war and redeemed) situation, as they tackle the Muggle Household Appliances. Ron and Draco versus The Refrigerator Light.
My unpopular opinion for this character:
Sirius — ig it’s that I don’t think Remus is his soulmate or whatever, or that he’s a whiny twink. He’s incredibly shippable, first of all, and he does give off the vibe (in the books) of being a guy who generally conforms to a Straight Wizard Standard in terms of looks and values. He doesn’t look or act particularly muggle, but he’s fascinated by the culture; he doesn’t regularly paint his nails either I don’t think, and when his nails are painted it’s probably bc he had a tea-party with his (grand)daughter—he’s not scared of displaying femininity, but he’s not actively performing it . I also don’t think he was physically abused by or genuinely hated his parents. A kid doesn’t need to be all but (or literally) tortured physically to run away from home.
Ron — he’s not dim, or obsessed with food, or nothing more than comic relief. He’s a witty tactical genius, the youngest son, who sort of pales in comparison to Literally Survives Anything, The Chosen One Cockroach Harry Potter and Brightest Witch Of Her Age Hermione Granger. But he’s still an integral part of the trio, and he’s an incredible wizard when he applies himself, and he’s funny and logical and emotional. I think him and Hermione are cute together too.
One thing I wish had happened with this character in canon:
Sirius — I wish he’d lived. If not for Harry then for himself. He should’ve grown old, free and happy.
Ron — I think him helping George with WWW is a fun choice, but I think it would’ve been grand if he’d taken over a pub or something. Never starting Auror training, just immediately working at the Hog’s Head or the Three Broomsticks or the Leaky Cauldron and later taking over the place. He seems like the type — warm, funny, sociable — to be around people, listen to their problems, talk to them. An easier, slower life.

Ever shoot a 45-70? Thoughts?
I have a Marlin Guide Gun that I've taken hog hunting a few times, and I've shot a coworker's "tactical" Henry Big Boy in 45-70.
They're pretty fun. I'd buy the coworker's rifle if he didn't want 4 grand for it.

Discover the Power of 277 SIG Fury and 458 SOCOM for Your Rifle
Choosing the right cartridge for your AR rifle is crucial to getting the performance you need. Two popular options among shooters are the 277 SIG Fury and 458 SOCOM. Each of these cartridges has unique strengths, making them ideal for different types of shooting. In this article, we'll break down what makes the 277 SIG Fury and 458 SOCOM stand out, helping you decide which one is right for your next rifle build.
What Makes the 277 SIG Fury Special?
The 277 SIG Fury is a cutting-edge cartridge developed by SIG Sauer. Originally designed for military use, this cartridge is known for its high pressure and exceptional power. Its hybrid case design allows it to handle much higher pressures than most other cartridges, leading to higher speeds and more energy when the bullet hits its target.
One of the main benefits of the 277 SIG Fury is its excellent performance at long distances. Thanks to its high velocity and flat trajectory, it’s perfect for precision shooting and hunting. Whether you’re targeting game at long range or aiming for accuracy in shooting sports, the 277 SIG Fury gives you the power and precision you need.
Another great thing about the 277 SIG Fury is its versatility. It works with AR-10 platform rifles, so you can easily build or upgrade your rifle with this powerful cartridge. If you want a round that delivers top performance in various situations, the 277 SIG Fury is a strong choice.
At Moriarti Armaments, we offer a range of 277 SIG Fury components and upper assemblies. Whether you’re starting a new rifle build or improving an existing one, our selection of 277 SIG Fury products ensures you have everything you need.
Why Choose the 458 SOCOM?
While the 277 SIG Fury is great for long-range shooting, the 458 SOCOM is designed for situations where you need serious stopping power at shorter distances. The 458 SOCOM is a heavy-duty cartridge that packs a punch, making it ideal for hunting large game or for tactical situations where you need to stop a target quickly and effectively.
The 458 SOCOM was created to offer big power in the AR-15 platform. This means you can upgrade your AR-15 to handle larger rounds without needing to switch to a bigger rifle. The 458 SOCOM can fire heavy bullets—ranging from 250 to 600 grains—at lower speeds, which results in deep penetration and a powerful impact.
One of the key benefits of the 458 SOCOM is its flexibility. It’s great for hunting big game like hogs and deer, and it’s also a reliable choice for home defense. Plus, it works with standard AR-15 magazines (with some modifications), making it a convenient option for those who want to add more power to their AR-15 without a complete overhaul.
At Moriarti Armaments, we offer a variety of 458 SOCOM upper assemblies and related products. Our 458 SOCOM components are designed to give you the performance and reliability you need for any situation.
Which Should You Choose: 277 SIG Fury or 458 SOCOM?
Deciding between the 277 SIG Fury and 458 SOCOM depends on what you need from your rifle. If you’re looking for a cartridge that offers long-range accuracy and high speed, the 277 SIG Fury is a great option. It’s perfect for hunters and precision shooters who need a versatile, powerful round.
If you need maximum stopping power at shorter ranges, the 458 SOCOM is the way to go. It’s ideal for hunting big game or for tactical situations where you need a reliable and powerful shot. The 458 SOCOM also offers the convenience of using it with your AR-15 platform, making it easy to upgrade your rifle for more power.

Key Features to Look for in a Hunting Headlamps Brightness and Beam Distance When it comes to headlamps, lumens are the name of the game. But more lumens don’t always mean better. You need a light that offers a balance between brightness and beam distance, so you can spot those reflective eyes staring back at you without scaring them off. And let’s not forget, being able to see far enough to avoid that tree root that’s out to get your ankle. Battery Life and Power Source There’s nothing worse than your headlamp dying on you at the climax of your hunt. Always check the battery life and consider headlamps with rechargeable batteries or those that can use both rechargeable and disposable batteries. It’s like having a backup plan for your backup plan. Durability and Water Resistance Hunting isn’t a walk in the park. Your headlamp needs to be as tough as you are, capable of taking a few knocks and still shining bright. Water resistance is a no-brainer because let’s face it, Mother Nature loves surprises. Look for headlamps that can handle the elements, so a little rain doesn’t end your hunt prematurely. Comfort and Fit A headlamp might tick all the boxes, but if it feels like a brick on your forehead, it’s a no-go. Comfort and fit are crucial, especially for those long waits or treks. Adjustable straps and a light that doesn’t bounce around with every step are what you’re after. Lighting Modes and Adjustability Versatility is key in the wild. A headlamp with different lighting modes (think high, medium, low, strobe, and red light) gives you options for every situation. Red light mode is a hunter’s best friend for preserving night vision and staying stealthy. Types of Headlamps Suitable for Hunting LED vs. Incandescent LEDs have taken the lead in the headlamp race, thanks to their efficiency, durability, and longer battery life. Incandescent bulbs might give off a warmer light, but they can’t hold a candle to the longevity and ruggedness of LEDs. Fixed vs. Zoomable Beam A fixed beam is great for consistent lighting, while a zoomable beam can be adjusted for focused tasks or scanning the distance. It’s like having a spotlight and a floodlight in one. Red Light Feature for Night Vision We’ve touched on this, but it’s worth repeating. A red light feature is invaluable for hunters. It keeps you under the radar, preserving your night vision and ensuring you’re not announcing your presence to every critter within a mile. How to Choose the Right Headlamp for Different Hunting Scenarios Every hunt is different, and so are the lighting needs. Whether you’re navigating through the woods before dawn, tracking at night, or dealing with the unpredictability of weather, there’s a headlamp out there for you. It’s all about matching the features to your specific needs, ensuring you’re never left in the dark. Maintenance and Care Tips for Hunting Headlamps Taking care of your headlamp ensures it’s ready when you need it most. Regular cleaning, proper battery storage, and timely repairs can extend the life of your headlamp, making it a reliable partner for many hunts to come. Selecting the Best Hunting Headlamp Picking the right headlamp isn’t just about grabbing the brightest or the most rugged one on the shelf. It’s about finding the perfect companion that meets your needs, whether you’re navigating the early morning darkness or tracking game under the moonlight. For Early Morning Hunts Those pre-dawn hours are magical but challenging. You need a headlamp that offers a balanced beam to light your path without blinding you or the wildlife. Look for one with adjustable brightness settings and a red light feature to keep you stealthy. Nighttime Tracking When the sun sets, and your hunt isn’t over, a headlamp with a strong, focused beam becomes invaluable. A model with a zoomable feature can help you switch between wide floodlight and focused spotlight, making tracking easier in the dark. All-Weather Conditions Rain or shine, your hunt goes on. A waterproof and durable headlamp is non-negotiable for hunters facing the elements. Ensure it’s rated for water resistance (look for IPX ratings) and can withstand the inevitable bumps and drops. Maintenance and Care Tips for Hunting Headlamps A little TLC goes a long way in extending the life of your headlamp. Keep it clean, especially the lens and battery contacts. Store batteries properly to avoid leaks and corrosion. And always have a backup plan, whether it’s extra batteries or a secondary light source. FAQs On Hunting Headlamps What is the best headlamp brightness for hunting? It depends on your activity. For general navigation, 100-200 lumens are usually sufficient. For tracking or field dressing game, you might want something with 300 lumens or more. Remember, it’s not just about brightness but also beam quality and distance. How important is the red light feature in a hunting headlamp? Very! The red light preserves your night vision and keeps you discreet. It’s perfect for reading maps or moving around without spooking wildlife. Consider it an essential feature for any hunting headlamp. Can I use rechargeable batteries in my hunting headlamp? Absolutely, and it’s encouraged. Rechargeable batteries are cost-effective and eco-friendly. Just make sure your headlamp is compatible and always have a backup, whether it’s a spare set of batteries or a portable charger. How do I prevent my headlamp from getting damaged during rainy hunts? Choose a headlamp with a high water resistance rating (IPX4 Read the full article

Even though North Dakota contains almost two million acres of forest, the state offers poor deer hunting. Nearly one lack of whitetail hunters is in the state, but they catch only thirty thousand deer yearly. The ads may be very low if you use a bow to hunt and are not an outfitter. Archers may only catch approximately several thousand deer.
3. Oregon

Most focus is on a very solid number of mule deer. But, if the goal is mainly the whitetail, Oregon is one of the toughest states to kill a whitetail deer.

okay warrior bites was so cool!!
would you consider something for cats who are more used to eating bugs/insects? like what bugs are best, are they prepared in any way, maybe they could raise them if they maintained anthills or places for mealworms and grubs, etc
also wondering about cats hunting large prey like deer. what would be the logistics of that?
totally don’t have to but those are some ideas i got seeing your dried minnow post. super cool!!
For bugs and insects, I can try to put out some sort of ‘Bug Overview‘ type guide for the various insects they would have access to. From what I’ve researched thus far, it falls into two categories; Domestic bugs and wild bugs.
Of course it’ll also be dependent on the territory as well. WindClan’s got some big, fat grasshoppers, where ShadowClan will find itself scaling trees and finagling grubs out of pine wood.
As a side note, when that does happen, Sorreltail’s going to be making appearances because she LOVES grasshoppers. Very unusual for a ThunderClan cat, bugs are her favorite.
As for hunting large prey... In addition to the invasive muntjac and chinese water deer, I plan to add boars to the landscape. It’s sort of annoying that the books treat foxes and badgers like wolves and bears when they’re practically the same size as a cat; realistically, the animal that would be filling that niche would be a wild hog.
Clan cats won’t be capable of hunting the BIG BIG prey, though. A boar is the furthest extent of what they can do; and it’s still a MASSIVE feat!! The large deer species like reds, sikas, and fallows can only be hunted if a Warrior comes across a lone fawn. I’m saving hunting specialty for the Tribe, as opposed to a Clan cat’s battle tactic prowess.
For that purpose I’ll probably also be leaving roe deer untouchable by Clan cats; they won’t be hunting things that are too large and fast. A boar is a dangerous animal that needs to be eaten or driven off Clan territory for safety. Muntjacs and water deer are sausages on legs.
#I also plan to heavily reference English hog dogs#And baying#Bone Babble#I'm thinking they should break out traps for hogs though...#I'm not communicating just how dangerous a wild hog is#It would be like a grizzly bear but faster

Unlock the Power of the 450 Bushmaster Upper and 9mm AR Pistol
When it comes to finding the right firearm for hunting or home defense, the 450 Bushmaster upper and 9mm AR pistol are two great options. These firearms offer both power and versatility, making them excellent choices for a variety of situations. In this article, we'll explain why these firearms stand out and how they can enhance your shooting experience.
Why You Should Consider the 450 Bushmaster Upper
If you're into hunting or target shooting, the 450-bushmaster upper is a powerful tool you should consider. This upper receiver is designed to fit onto an AR-15 lower receiver, allowing you to convert your existing AR-15 into a more powerful firearm without needing to buy a whole new gun. The 450 Bushmaster upper is popular because of its large-bore, straight-walled cartridge, which is perfect for hunting larger game like deer, hogs, and even bears.
The 450 Bushmaster upper is especially known for its stopping power. This means that when you shoot at your target, the bullet has enough force to bring it down with just one shot. This makes it a favorite among hunters who want to make sure their target doesn’t escape. Another benefit of the 450 Bushmaster upper is its versatility. Whether you're hunting in open fields or dense forests, where closer range shots are more common, this upper performs well in different environments.
Installing the 450 Bushmaster upper on your AR-15 is also very simple. You just swap out the upper receiver, and your AR-15 is now ready for bigger game. This easy upgrade is perfect for anyone who wants to get more out of their existing rifle without a lot of hassle.
The Benefits of the 9mm AR Pistol
For those who need a reliable firearm for self-defense or tactical use, the 9mm AR pistol is an excellent choice. This pistol is lightweight and easy to handle, making it great for situations where you might need to move quickly or operate in tight spaces. Whether you're defending your home or practicing at the shooting range, the 9mm AR pistol delivers consistent performance that you can rely on.
One of the key benefits of the 9mm AR pistol is that it uses common 9mm ammunition. This makes it affordable to shoot and easy to find the right type of ammo for your needs. The 9mm AR pistol is also very customizable, meaning you can add accessories like scopes, lights, or lasers to suit your preferences.
The 9mm AR pistol is a versatile firearm that fits well in many different situations. Its compact size and ease of use make it ideal for home defense, but it's also great for recreational shooting or training new shooters. The low recoil of the 9mm AR pistol also makes it easier to control, which is a big plus for anyone who wants a firearm that’s simple to operate.

alright I’m just gonna do main six I think-
Texas def has dogs. At least one of them is a Chihuahua, but like, the reasonable kind not the tiny appleheaded ones. Probably a well-trained gundog like a pointer, lab, or blue lacey as well. Possibly also a cattle dog (likely a heeler, they’re popular here). He (& by extension Austin & co) have partial custody of the active Bevo, the UT mascot (a longhorn steer. There have been many Bevos). Used to have horses but it’s possible he doesn’t anymore. If he still has them, they’re definitely grade horses.
I’ve seen the NY has pigeons headcanon before and honestly? So correct. I think he has tried to keep other birds as well but it hasn’t panned out. Pennsylvania ends up with the results of his attempt at keeping chickens.
Louisiana also has a hunting dog, but something about him strikes me as the kind of person who’s feral enough to try to reduce the invasive hog population himself, so he gets a catch dog of some kind, except Louisiana wouldn’t risk a pet like that so the dog just gets to ride in the cab of the truck looking cool in a tactical vest.
Florida is either a surprisingly responsible pet parent for something normal, responsible for something unhinged OR is responsible for introducing invasive reptiles into the Everglades.
Gov tells himself he can’t have a pet because they’re too much work and ends up with an ESA cat who bosses him around relentlessly.
Finally, we have: California.
Tarantula dad one THOUSAND percent, and probably a flashy, highly toxic old world species too! It just??? Fits??? Like have you SEEN the way tarantula owners talk about their spiders???
ermm yeah no art. But cuz a fella is curious (me, I'm fella) what pet buddies do y'all think the states would have?? If dog or cat or rabbit or bird or something, i'd like to know the species of said buddy cuz y'know, easier to wrap my head around it and some animals are just to broad to say dog or cat
