LOST CAT - PEMBROKE, NC

AND Financial Aid

Hello all,

different post than normal.

My beloved cat, Salem, got scared and slipped her harness February 7th, 2023, at roughly 10:30 pm - 11 pm, in Pembroke, NC.

As of June 12th, Salem is still missing. I have updated her pictures here as well.

I have done every possible thing to locate her: shelter checks, drive-arounds, mail-out cards, posters around town, facebook/insta ads, Snapchat, Apartment emails, door-to-door, ground search, luring, etc. If you can think it then I have done it or tried to do it.

It also means that at this time I am struggling financially. Money is already tight and god forbid cost of living stop going up, especially as I live in the south which seems to be on fire recently with a lot of regressive laws and costs. On top of that, if you recall my truck from September that gave out on me, it has begun to again, sapping most of my money and leaving me high-and-dry.

Financially the world sucks and I need surgery soon most likely - this is not the first one, it is the fourth which is well overdue. Does anyone know Murphy's Law? "Anything that can go wrong will." Yeah, well, Murphy can bite me.

I am in a financial abyss, so any and all help is appreciated. Times are hard for everyone, and god this sucks, but I haven't heard back from the other jobs I have been applying too and there is only so long that you can make it on a single job with rent and bills taking everything except a few dollars a month.

FINALLY GOT A BLAZE DESIGN I AM HAPPY WITH YAHOO!!! 

ive been struggling with how to design her for MONTHS but im finally glad to say i think ive nailed it down!  also if her hair was down it would totally look more like a mane than anything else, lol

We received a message yesterday indicating a kitten was unable to put weight on her leg and was feeling unsteady. Our director immediately made room in one of her emergency kennels for injured kittens needing more care and medical.

Without delay, we took her to West Toledo Animal Hospital, where it was confirmed that she had a broken leg. 🥺

Dr. West skillfully splinted her leg, and we are hopeful that we can save it. The kitten will have a recheck on Friday, September 20th to assess her healing progress.

As she hasn't been given an official name yet, we'd love to hear some unique name suggestions from all of you!💜

Tabico Cats: A One-of-a-Kind

This is Polly! She just passed away a couple weeks ago at age 20. She had a very good life, I think. I've been talking about her a lot and I've always had trouble describing her! She's kind of a tortie, kind of calico, and kind of tabby. What do you think? (This blog is a delight and all the cat pics are a comfort, thanks ❤)

I'm sorry that I didn't get around to this ask sooner. Rest in peace, Polly. She seems to be a black tabby tortoiseshell with medium white (aka a tabico). <3

Back to the agouti hairs, but still on the topic of leucism, I notice areas of defined white (definite leucism), but also areas like this:

Where the "white" is clearly coming from agouti hairs. That would make her a silver tabby!

There's also some areas of uncertainty, where being a longhair makes it a little harder to tell where leucism ends and pigment begins... This looks like silvering to me, but I can't be sure:

UNTIL this photo cleared it up:

I can very clearly see which part of her back has white spotting here. This pic is very telling in general tbh, she's silvery in a way low rufousing doesn't get. It's hard to describe but basically even a VERY low-rufous brown tabby has rufousing in certain areas (at least more of it in compared to the rest of the body) such as muzzle/belly, and even pale areas have a gentle reddishness to them like a light, tinted off-white.

Compare the above pic to your cat's agouti areas. Your baby doesn't have ANY rufousing anywhere even in telling areas. (Muzzle may be mostly covered by white but look just above her nose, at her ears, and other shorter-haired areas like the cheeks + the overall "tint" of the markings.)

We can compare her to other silver torbie/tabico longhairs and see similar tells:

>black stripes fade into silver

>ginger clearly visible

>paler ginger than on a non-inhibitor cat

>black stripes fade into silver

>hard to tell where the piebald ends in some places due to long bands of nonpigment on agouti hairs

I think it's safe to say this lovely lady was a silver tabico <3
