[ 𝐑𝐄𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄 ] ― sender and receiver see each other again after a period of being apart Akari and Kazui (maybe one of them was on a work trip)
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐒
While Akari enjoys the level of authority he has in his field, the amount of conference invitations he has to decline on a regular basis are always too many. This one he couldn't turn down, however, and this is how he found himself spending five days living out of his suitcase, trying to have the energy for all the people coming up to him with questions and topics of conversation. He is more than glad to be driving back into the city and, while any other person might be eager to get home, Akari has a different destination in mind. His apartment feels empty on a good day - he's sure that returning home from a tiring trip will only add to the feeling of bareness.
He makes a stop to pick up cat food and wine, as usual, before he arrives at Kazui's apartment late at night. Looking at his watch as he climbs the stairs, he does wonder if it's too late even for his partner. Yet he feels a tinge of neediness touch his heart - he missed him, so terribly much... Their routines and habits and check-ins all got derailed because of this trip and he desperately wants to go back to them.
He knocks on the door and he swears it's only a few moments before the door opens and Kazui and Mo both greet him in their own way. Mo wails at him, almost to say that if he doesn't pick up the cat right now, it might die, while Kazui gives him an affectionate smile.
"Hello," he says, simply, the worries about being too dispelled as he is invited in and he barely has a chance to discard his shoes or do anything else that Kazui pulls him gently into a kiss. The doctor all but melts at the contact, leaning into the other man's frame. A small smile forms on his lips when they part and he meets Kazui's gaze, before whispering softly. "I missed you too, my love."

@welivetoserve // Akari for Ayumu.
Akari places the back of his warm hand against both of his cheeks, one after another, trying to tame the flush that has taken over his cheeks, the winter wind picking up all around him and making a flurry of snowflakes dance around him, settling into strawberry blond tresses. He takes in a breath and puts a polite smile on his lips, before walking into the bar, his posture stiff yet tired, eyes squinting and searching for familiar faces. From the seas of people in the bar, a hand rises and he hears his name called over to a table where a dozen or so of people are already enjoying an eclectic array of drinks, from beer to complicated looking cocktails. His stern steps carry him towards them, as he takes in everyone at the table hastily. The faces reminisce of a time he barely remembers anymore, but they bring with them a shower of nostalgia. He is reminded of long study nights and animated parties, of gossip and secrets shared over dinner, of ramen noodles and words of encouragement during exam periods.
“Apologies for the belated arrival,” he speaks as he places his coat on the back of the only chair that is free at the table, before running a hand through his hair, snowflakes now melting into soft locks. He gives a huff as one of the men remarks how he is still as ‘proper as ever’, before taking his seat and attracting the attention of a server nearby. “Large glass of Merlot, please,” he puts in his order, before settling in, his shoulders giving under the influence of the warmth of the room. He now takes the time to let his eyes roll over everyone at the table as they half return to their conversations, half assault him with questions. He gives polite explanations around how he was caught behind in an operation, before the interest in him subsides and his glance lands on the quiet person next to him. “Oh...” The soft sound leaves him as surprise contours against his features, distracted as his glass of wine is placed on the table. He gives a polite ‘thank you’ to the server, before taking a sip of his drink and returning his attention to the man beside him. “I did not think you would be here, Ayumu,” he starts, the ghost of a smile on his lips, before he quickly runs his tongue across the bottom one and continues, “I am glad to see you are healthy. How have you been?”

The evening is setting upon the vast garden as the multitude of lights envelop the people scattered across it in a warm glow. Akari returns to his table, eyes searching for the newly married couple to give them his apologies for missing the ceremony and pay his congratulations. When he can’t distinguish any familiar faces, he turns to one of the people seated next to him and clears his throat before speaking:
“Excuse me,” tone polite and eyes measuring, “Do you happen to know where the happy couple is?” He doesn’t know many people at the wedding, however there is hope in his question.

Answered ask by @welivetoserve
Akari was taken aback by the other’s blunt words. He rarely did things like this - putting himself in vulnerable positions wasn’t exactly his forte. His lips settled in a firm line, while his eyes pierced the other man.
“Your answer sounds awfully close to a rejection,” he spoke, pride hurt. His features became rigid, any softness dissipating from his expression. “I wouldn’t want impose in any way, so thank you for your... Honesty.”

@sakuwai
Steps echoed along the hallway as Akari took off his scrubs, his pace decided, his face flourished by anguish and anger at the same time. He could still hear the flat line behind his eyes and every time he closed them, all he could see were his bloodied gloved hands. A clock on the light coloured walls of the hospital read a bit after midnight.
All of the sudden, the doctor’s appearance transformed as he rounded a corner and saw the patient’s family. He hated these conversations... And he never knew how to comfort and take away the pain. All he could do is communicate the results and stand there, watching how his failure destroyed the people before him.
By the time he ensured the patient’s family were in good hands, the same clock read one in the morning. He tried to ignore the ache in his body, but when he could no longer do that, he crashed into the nearest chair with a sigh. Basking under the neon lights of the hallway, Akari closed his eyes, painstakingly going through every minute of the operation. Where did he go wrong?...

Akari’s steps echoed along the hallway as he made his way through the hospital, basked in fluorescent lights and clad in scrubs. The colour in his eyes looked pale, while the valleys on his face seemed now to further sink, adorning the topography of his visage with deep shadows. It had been a while since the doctor felt so tired, but he pushed on towards his office.
As he rounded a corner, the sight of a reindeer took him aback and he blinked a few times, trying to discern if the lack of sleep was finally taking a toll on him.
“What in the world?...” he spoke, voice dull and eyebrows furrowed.
