This time let's circle back to equity later and focus on some basics! What's up with TAILS?

Transcript under the cut:

1. First of all, why do the people in a setting even need tails? Humans don't have tails for a number of reasons, we don't chase prey so we don't need it to help us change direction like a rudder. We also don't climb trees so we don't need one for keeping hold of branches or for balance. But in a world of megafauna, maybe you need a tail to help you turn fast to flee? Or maybe a hunter needs a rudder to swim? But most importantly!! It's fun & helps your people feel unique!

Think about why species in a setting might have tails and perhaps you will think of something that adds depth to your world… For warmth, like a blanket! To increase visibility when foraging! For Combat!!!

2. Clothing is the main issue I see brought up when discussing tails & Furgonomics. many solutions can be found when looking at furry artwork, so look around! The only solution i'd say is not valid is…The belt under the tail.

A tail would sit far too low to comfortably wear trousers there, imagine wearing yours below the pelvis at your hips? Even with a belt that is far too risqué! The best solutions all put the waistband above the tail and either have a hole for the tail or in the case of clothing like dresses and skirts allow the tail to sit freely beneath.

In my setting of Firnus different cultures have their own designs to fit environmental needs. The Gilter braghe is a sleeveless trouser designed with modesty in mind. compare this to the rav breechcloth, made for wearing under robes. Or avoid the tail hole all together and beat the heat with the pantheran quarter sarong!

3. So where else can tails be a problem…? CHAIRS.

most people are going to jump immediately to seats like these:

But i'm going to make my case as to why this would not be comfortable: See this dog skeleton to the right? When a quadrupedal animal sits, they don't rest on their upper legs or put any pressure on their fragile tails, Instead they rest on their hocks & hind feet! Why? Exactly as we discussed with trousers, tails wouldn't go out, they'd go down. As part of the spine, if you wanted to sit back in a chair your spine would be vertical.

…So, I believe anthro species wouldn't want to put pressure on their tails by sitting on them… So we cut a hole out from the bottom and back of the chair, right? Yes! and no. Yes because when you're world building you can do whatever works best for you! But no because I'm not satisfied with this answer and I'm driving this PNG!!!! So how do we fix this? Let's see why chairs even exist in the first place!

4. The earliest (known) chairs come from the 2nd dynasty of Egypt during the Thinite period. These chairs were as short at the seat as 10 inches! …But like, Why? as a status symbol! These caught on as nobility wished to copy kings, and then the common people copied nobility. They're also useful to keep your clothes clean and prevent you from resting on cold or wet ground.

But we don't need kings!! If you want something for similar use without those connotations. Here's some options:

Kneeling! While many cultures use this to show reverence, few still kneel for comfort.

Benches and stools! Before chairs became affordable for the average person simpler furnishings were commonly used. These don't have tricky tail holes to fumble around with and can be as simple as a plank.

cushions! A thick pillow or rolled rug would allow a person to sit cross-legged without their tail pressing down against a hard surface.

Think about who needs chairs, where they'd be used, and the answer will come naturally! Have fun world building!

10 Jewish Women from History Part 4

Roza Papo (1914-1984, Yugoslavia)

A physician and general of the Yugoslav People's Army, and the first woman to rise to rank of general on the Balkan Peninsula. Born to a Sephardi Jewish family in Sarajevo, she studied at the School of Medicine in Zagreb and worked as a physician. In 1941, after the invasion of Yugoslavia, she made contact with several resistance groups. She had the rank of officer, captain, and major. After the war, she continued her career as a physician in the army, and became the first head of the Military Medical Academy, formulating the first criteria for the selection of military physicians. She published over 50 papers, is credited with introducing new diagnostic methods, and has received six medals for her contributions. In 1973, she was promoted to the rank of major general, the first woman general in all the Balkans.

Fira Benenson (1898-1977, America)

A Russian born fashion designer and dressmaker who grew up in Baku, Saint Petersburg, London, Paris, and New York City. After her family fortune took a hit in the Great Depression and Wall Street Crash of 1929, she opened a dress shop in NYC and began to gain a reputation in the fashion industry. She worked with Bonwit Teller, until she created her own company focused on simple but elegant clothing that women could wear throughout their daily routines. She worked with Princess Grace of Monaco and Pat Nixon, and designed many clothes for women over forty.

Lilli Henoch (1899-1942, Germany)

Born in Konigsberg, East Prussia, she and her family moved to Berlin. She was a track and field athlete who set four world records and won 10 German national championships in four different disciplines. She participated and set world records in the discus, the shot put, and the four by one hundred meters relay. After 1933, she and other Jews were forced to leave the BSC by race laws, so she joined the Jewish Gymnastics and Sports Club 1905, where she played team handball. She also worked as a gymnastics teacher. She was entered into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1990, and was honored with a Stolperstein in Berlin in 2008.

Lily Krongerber (1890-1975, Hungary)

A Hungarian figure skater born in Budapest, she was Hungary's first World Champion. She won two bronze medals and four gold medals in the World Championships, and participated in the first official one in 1906. She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1983, and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1997.

Adlene Harrison (1923-2022, America)

An American politician and the first Jewish woman to serve as Mayor of a major U.S. city, as well as Dallas's first Jewish mayor and first female mayor.

Ida Silverman (1882-1973)

A Jewish philanthropist who helped co-found approximately 100 synagogues. She is the only woman to have served as VP of the Zionist Organization of America and the American Jewish Congress. Born in Kovno, Russia, her family emigrated to the US when she was an infant. She was honored as Jewish Mother of the Year in 1951, and Rhode Island mother of the year in 1954. She has both a forest and a village in Israel named after her. She and her husband were jointly inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 1971.

Rachel, Countess d'Avigdor (1816-1896, England)

A philanthropist and communal worker, she was privately educated by some of the most eminent teachers of the time. She was involved in communal institutions, including Jewish owned businesses, and was also a signatory of the firsts mass petition in Britain for women to vote.

Sara (200 CE ~ 600 CE, Roman Empire)

A Roman convert to Judaism buried within the Jewish catacombs of Rome. Also known as Veturia Paulla. She was honored as the mother of several synagogues.

Yalta (Period of Babylonian Talmud)

One of the few women named in the Babylonian Talmud, and wife of Rav Nachman, who was a sage from around 250 CE. The second most mentioned women in the Talmud, she is described as breaking 400 jugs of wine after a guest offended her and womenkind. She also offers her husband counsel, and was able to come up with non-kosher food that tasted the same as kosher food.

Helena of Adiabene (?-50/56 CE, Parthian Empire)

Queen mother of Adiabene, a vassal state of the Parthian Empire. She converted to Judaism around the year 30 CE, and was known for her generosity. Her strictness of keeping to the mitzvot was mentioned in the Talmud.

Ravage and Riptide Headcanons (2005 IDW, He/She pronouns for Ravage!)

(🫡, I actually have a lot of thoughts about these two, considering Riptide is one of the most notable characters Ravage interacts with in MTMTE. These two talk three times in MTMTE, which considering most of the rest of Rav's interactions are with Megatron, is actually pretty notable!)

The Lost Light was not the first place Ravage and Riptide met. Or rather, it was not the first time where Ravage saw Riptide personally. While the two have never properly fought each other, Ravage was present during the battle for which Riptide was made; the Simanzi Massacre. Ravage was on the field where Riptide made his first appearance and could tell Riptide was freshly made by his scent. Riptide was struggling against the overwhelming current of the Forced Flood when Ravage found him. While equipped with an aquatic alt-mode, his T-Cog was malfunctioning, leading to him not being able to transform. Hit with a rare twinge of sympathy (or perhaps pity, or something even crueler), Ravage leaves Riptide be. He could have killed Riptide there and rid the Autobots of one more soldier, but whatever his reasons, he chose not to.

Ravage does not see Riptide again until after the war ends and he is assigned to spy on Megatron by Soundwave. Before he is revealed to be a stowaway, Ravage does not spend much time watching or even considering Riptide. There were far bigger characters in play; such as Rodimus, Magnus, Ratchet, and Megatron himself. That does not mean he did not "check-in" on Riptide every once in a while, however. To sate his own curiosity and as a needed reprieve from the stuffy, tense atmosphere made by his assignment, Ravage occasionally sought Riptide out in secret. Watching him from the vents or in the shadows of other mechs, Riptide became Ravage's personal source of entertainment... not that Riptide knew about that. Riptide reminded him of Rumble and Frenzy in a way, and after spending so much time away from the twins, Riptide's similarities to them became a comfort.

Their "first" impressions of each other were not as pleasant, however. They do not meet properly until Ravage is revealed to be spying on the Lost Light crew and, once discovered, Ravage becomes aggressive out of self-defense. After he is shot and the crew board the split Lost Light, Riptide insults Ravage; criticizing his tracking skills when Ravage sniffed out Minimus Ambus after claiming to smell Ultra Magnus. When Ravage is proven to be correct in the end, as Minimus is Magnus, he does not let go of Riptide's quick dismissal of him easily. He insults Riptide later on ("I hate to spell out the obvious- though I am sure it happens to you a lot..."), and this bickering continues between them long after they have returned to their Lost Light.

Surprising them both, Ravage and Riptide's bickering turns into a tentative bond. Neither of them are entirely sure how or when it happens, but their bickering towards each other slowly morphs into a genuine bond. They start spending more time snarking at other people together, rather than at each other, and Ravage finds himself both confused and intrigued by Riptide's interest in him. Riptide is the only person onboard the Lost Light, save for perhaps Nautica, to show any interest in talking with him. Not only that, but Riptide is the only one who approaches him casually, without fear. He'd be insulted if he weren't starved of connection with other people. After four million years of being in constant close contact with other people, being removed from them has its consequences. With his dynamic with Megatron being strained and every other mech on the Lost Light regarding him with open distrust, Ravage finds connection where he can. Riptide becomes a source of comfort for Ravage, and he often seeks the mech out when the silence begins to sink in too deep and his ache for physical contact becomes too great. Riptide is genuine in the way he interacts with others, and Ravage, who has spent the last several months spinning his own cat's cradle of contingency plans, finds comfort in that genuineness. When life onboard the Lost Light becomes too much for either of them, Riptide sometimes takes Ravage to the oil reservoir and does laps in his alt-mode with Ravage on top. Both menaces at spark, they often end up pushing each other in on purpose.

Riptide values Ravage's patience in return. Despite Ravage's initial picking, she is patient with Riptide- more patient than a considerable portion of the Autobots, at the very least. She does not rush him to get out a thought or roll her optics when he does not catch onto something as fast as someone else. Ravage has spent her entire life being patient; waiting and observing for things to fall into place. She's not going to get huffy because she has to wait a few extra minutes for Riptide to get his thoughts together. As they get closer, Ravage begins to start snapping at others when they attempt to rush Riptide. She cites her own annoyance with the 'bots in question for it, but anyone paying attention can see she's got a soft spot.

When Riptide expresses his distrust of Megatron, Ravage is supportive. Not only is it good for her if the crew does not trust Megatron, as they are more likely to push against him and potentially tempt Megatron to leave, but she likes that Riptide has doubts. Ravage believes more 'bots should doubt their superiors. Doubt leads to knowledge-seeking, which is a quick slope into rebellion. When Riptide makes a throw-away comment about betting shanix against Megatron being truthful about being "reformed", Ravage praises him for being doubtful and being prepared for betrayal. She tells him that he should always question things around him, no matter how trusted or well-known they are. Ravage knew Megatron for over four million years, after all, and she never expected him to take up the red badge. Anything can happen, and Riptide needs to be ready for that.

Bitter irony. Ravage praises Riptide for being cautious, unknowing that Riptide himself was aligned with Getaway. Riptide wars between duty and guilt for a long time after, caught between telling Ravage of Getaway's plans and remaining silent. In the end, it is his own curiosity that makes the decision for him.

This friendship was not meant to last. Friendship is what Riptide believed it to be, though Ravage's feelings on the matter are much more complex. Eventually, Riptide breaks their fragile bond by asking if Ravage trusts him. The conversation did not start with that; he danced around it at first, asking about Megatron and Soundwave and the rest of the Lost Light. Riptide brings up a time when Ravage told him never to trust anyone fully, and that even those closest to you can turn. He asks if Ravage trusts anyone on the Lost Light, if she trusts Megatron, if she trusts Soundwave. Eventually, he asks if she trusts him. His being truthful about Getaway was dependent on her answer, but what he wasn't expecting was for Ravage to ask him if he trusted her. A moment of silence passes between them. Neither could bring themselves to answer, which was enough of an answer in itself. Ravage is the one who ultimately ends the conversation; turning her back to Riptide and walking away with little more than, "… It is best if we leave it at that, then." This is the last time Riptide and Ravage see each other, and the last time they speak before the DotL.

After The Dance (Wednesday Tickle Fanfiction)

“It was the night of the dark prom the dance that took place the year after last years rav n dance. “I’m enjoying this romantic night with you darling” Rowan told Eleven in her ear softly as she had her arms wrapped around his neck as they slow danced “Me too” she said leaning on his shoulder then she pulled in for a kiss. Enid, Bianca, Wednesday and Yoko were also slow dancing with their boyfriends until the song was over then they both went to sit down at the tables like the rest of the other students with their dates.”

“The girls chatted at their own table while the boys sat at their own table chatting together. “Yo Rowan you know what to do spike the punch bowl with sleep pills” Xavier whispered, Rowan nodded using his telekinesis to toss them into the punch drink at the nearby refreshments table then all of the boys got up heading in the direction towards the drinks and snacks, “What are they doing?”Enid asked frowning, then they came over to the table where their girlfriends were sitting. “Drinks ladies?” Xavier offered him and their boyfriends putting them on the table, “Sure thanks” Enid said. Once the girls got finished drinking their punch they began feeling loopy and tired and collapsed on the floor. Rowan used his telekinesis to pick Eleven up from the ground while the rest of the boys carried their girlfriends as well as they headed upstairs.”

“They entered Wednesday and Enid’s dorm room putting their girlfriends down onto the floor tying both their arms and legs together and then soon they woke back up. “Where are we what happened?” Enid asked sleepily, “I feel tired” Eleven said looking at his boyfriend, “You drank a very dangerous drink honey” Rowan whispered in her ear gripping her chin lying to Eleven. “Never mind that just prepare to get tickled!” Xavier said going for Wednesday’s feet tickling them, “No Xavier stop it!” She said giggling, “Lift your arms sweetheart” Rowan told Eleven, “No!” She told him, “Well okay then you asked for it darling!” He said using his telekinetic powers lifting her arms up then started to violently tickle her armpits, “Stop it Rowan that tickles, oh my god I’m dying baby!” She cried out laughing, then he leaned down tickling her toes, “no stop! knock it off!” Eleven said giggling some more.”

“Come on guys let’s get their feet! Tyler said then they flipping there girlfriends around them laying on their stomachs then Rowan, Tyler, Xavier, Ajax and Kent started tickling they’re girlfriends feet and they all started giggling. “Stop it Ajax you’re killing me!” Enid said while laughing at the same time. “Xavier if you don’t stop I’m gonna end you!” Wednesday said giggling, “Oh really?” He said smirking then he turned her over and started tickling Wednesday’s stomach then squeezed it, “No! Stop!” She yelled laughing some more. Then he kissed her stomach, “Love you darling” he said in a low deep tone of voice, then continued the kisses up her stomach, “No! That’s tickles! Cut it out Xavier!” Wednesday said laughing nonstop.”

“Rowan turned his girlfriend over then stuck his finger into Eleven’s bellybutton poking it, “Stop it Row! I can’t breathe!” He was gripping her neck as his invisible fingers started tickling her chest, “Stop!” Shhh…hush darling, Rowan said placing his hands on Eleven’s mouth then kissed her lips as he muffled her giggling then the invisible fingers started tickling her legs, “No! Stop! Don’t do that! It’s too much to handle!” Eleven said bursting out laughing. Then the rope slowly started coming off of Eleven, “Wow baby how did you get that off?” Lucky guess, my telekinesis, duh, now I’m getting you back!” Eleven said pushing Rowan down with her telekinesis then violently started tickling him, “Okay okay sorry darling! I regret tickling you!” Rowan said laughing out loud.”

“Ajax continued to tickle Enid and that’s when she grew larger and a loud howl escaped from her lips releasing her from her rope pushing Ajax down to the floor, “Woah! Holy crap!” Tyler yelled, “Chill, don’t worry it’s just Enid bro she wolfed out” Xavier said laughing. Kent then started tickling Bianca’s stomach, “Stop it baby that’s tickles!” She said tears flowing down her eyes. Thing assisted Wednesday letting her out of her rope with her scissors on her desk next to her typewriter. Tyler then untied Yoko, then she bit his arm drawing blood and sucking it from his arm, “Ouch baby!” That’s what you you get for tickling me, she said then Kent untied Bianca. That was fun let’s do it again sometime, Tyler said, “Not a chance and the next person who tickles me is losing a hand” Wednesday said.”

I have to go to St. Louis for work in 3 weeks. All my American friends have never been, but I am told it has bbq? I mean I know you are not in St. Louis, but you are also closer than ppl in Minnesota or Virginia, so I thought I would ask if you have heard if there is anything near there?

Hi friend! I've been to STL manyyyyyy times, grew up about 2 hours away and have a ton of friends there so here are my humble opinions :) So KC bbq is obvi better, but STL does have their own version of BBQ that's decent. Pappy's & Salt & Smoke are popular ones. STL is really known for their T-Ravs (toasted ravioli). I'd recommend that. They have a specific kind of pizza too at Imo's, but I think it's disgusting so don't recommend. There's a place called Fitz's Delmar I love. They make their own root beer. If the Cardinals are playing, 100% you should go down to Busch Stadium and go to a game. Ballpark Village itself is so fun (Salt & Smoke has a location there too- they do stl bbq). The Zoo is amazing (and free). You can tour Anheuser Busch or to do the typical Arch experience.
