This idea just came in mind combining two fields I’m interested. Not just looking for the color but appearance, feeling and behavior also matters.

Lesser florican (Sypheotides indicus)  Local Name - likh or kharmore, Record Shot © VIPs ☆Eye-catching in both appearance and behaviour l ☆The Lesser Florican is a bird of the dry grasslands and open fields that prefers drier ungrazed plains with grass upto the height of 0.51 m Flight : The flight of a Lesser Florican is characterized by rhythmic strokes of the broad wings, an outstretched neck and legs and feet tucked under. Floricans fly individually, not in flocks. Display and Territory Establishment: The most characteristic feature of the male Lesser Florican is the vertical jumping habit. The male stands at a selected place, looks around and leaps up to two meters high into the air with an energetic flurry of wing beats. Then, with wings tucked in, he falls swiftly back to the ground. During courtship males repeat this aerial display as many as 400 times a day, while producing a frog-like croak which can be heard from as far as 300-400 meters. The jump is used to set up a territory during the breeding season by warning other males to stay away and to lure potential mates. Lesser florican status: Classified as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List _______________________________________________________ Always ready to love, spot, feel, care, study, protect, conserve, follow, understand, appreciate to these lovely birds ____________________________________________________ . . . #birds_of_instagram #best_birds_of_ig #lesserflorican #bird_captures #birds_of_ig #birdphotography #bird_lovers_daily #birdextreme #birdphotographersofindia #birdlovers #bb_of_ig #eye_spy_birds #your_best_birds #almightybirds #nature_perfection #raw_birds #planetbirds #birdsonearth #birdstagram #wildlifeindia #birdphotographyindia #birdfreaks #feather_perfection #ourplanetdaily#earthpix #sonyalphain @birdphotographers_of_india @birds.nature @bird_brilliance @bbcearth @indian_wildlifes @indianwildlifeofficial @claws.n.wings @nature_worldwide_birds @bird_watching__ @birds_illife @naturein_focus @best_birds_of_world @best_birds_planet @best_birds_of_ig @bestbirdshots @bird.extreme @naturein_focus @planetbirds @bns_birds @birds_illife @natgeo @natgeoindia #sonyalphain (at VIPs_Clicks) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDtBFYpAeEC/?igshid=1i2nzh0uk77vw

The endangered Lesser Florican (Sypheotides indicus) is a big of an easy target for hunters. While this female can blend into the grassland habitats of India, the males’ conspicuous mating dance makes it incredibly simple to locate these birds. To attract females, the male Lesser Florican wade into the tall grasses, then pop up into the sky with a croak and an impressive flutter. This feather-shaking movement has been studied as fantastic example of non-verbal communication in birds: in this case, a note to all of the females that this male is top dog, er, bird. However, as beautiful as the bright plumage and enthusiastic dance moves of a male Lesser Florican can be, I think that this female may just top them. The fantastic camouflaging may make her harder to see in a grassland, but the patterns are nonetheless wonderful when seen up close.

August 13, 2015 - Lesser Florican (Sypheotides indicus)
Found in dry grasslands of South Asia, these birds are in the bustard family. They eat insects, including locusts, seeds, and plant shoots. Known for their courtship displays, the males jump 6.5 feet (2 meters) in the air and quickly drift back down with their wings tucked in. During the breeding season, at the beginning of the summer monsoon, they may do this up to 500 times each day. Females nest in scrapes on the ground, incubating the eggs and caring for the chicks alone. They are classified as Endangered. In the 1870s their population began to decline due to hunting and this trend has continued as a result of habitat loss and drought.
Here’s a video of their courtship display: http://www.arkive.org/lesser-florican/sypheotides-indicus/video-09.html
