New Album: Long Walks and Short Tangents

Hey Everyone! N0n-B1nary here. I'm very happy to announce that my first album, "Long Walks and Short Tangents" is now available on Spotify!

This album has a pretty wide range of instrumental themes, but most are in the softer, lofi categories that are great to study , write, do chores or just zone out to. Two of the songs, "Translating an Akkadian Script with the help of Some Cheap Coffee" and "Sometimes Letting Go Of Your Past Means Crossing Mountain Ranges And Barbed Wire" were directly inspired by two characters from the fantastic Syntax Podcast made by @twinstrangersp , who are starting their crowdfunding campaign for season 3! Happy audio drama Sunday! I know I’ve been a little absent online recently, but there are some shows that I really need to yell about this week

If you’ve heard the first two seasons, you KNOW they’ve got some fantastic stuff in store for us. And if you haven’t? Now’s the time to give them a listen before the crowdfund ends - their S2 crowdfund was what got me hooked on the show, and I’m so glad it did 🥰

Also, I’m still not emotionally recovered from @monkeymanproductions Moonbase Theta, Out finale. I won’t say too much about it yet because a) spoilers for anyone who hasn’t listened yet, and b) there are epilogues coming.

But god, this has been such a beautiful story from the start. MTO is one of the first ADs I ever listened to, and it’s the one that stuck with me most vividly. I remember exactly where I was when I was listening to the first season, what the weather was like, which house I was in (I’ve moved a lot), what I was doing during each finale.

It would be easy for a show like that to have a disappointing ending, but no. The finale beautifully reinforces everything this show stands for for - community, radical hope, small victories against seemingly untouchable oppressors. I’m forever grateful that this story exists for me to revisit (and I will be revisiting, often).

And finally, I know I’m late to this one but I’ve been powering through Greater Boston in time for their live-show at London Podcast Festival this evening! I don’t know why I waited so long to listen, this show is hilarious, chaotic as hell, and has made me cry an alarming number of times considering a main plot arc is “cheese robots”

I’ll be at LPF tonight watching @ameliapodcast @greaterblogston and @wefixspacejunk and idk about you but I can’t think of a more perfect way to spend my Sunday evening ☺️

Impression (so far): kinda like The Magnus Archives meets Annihilation (the book, not the movie) - in a good way!

Themes: sometimes tense/spooky/scary, bit of Sci-fi, bit of action, and a lot of exploration of a strange dangerous wilderness, backed by a questionable organisation. Believable team bonding (maybe future found family??), natural character interactions :)

Voices: Has one main character but the show is carried by a core cast. So far I've been able to follow the story without issues, despite me normally struggling to recognise several voices. If it really matters who is talking they do a good job of telling you who speaks.

Length: Episodes are between 30-60 mins. As of August 2023 there are 27 episodes, crowdfunding for the next season was just announced.

Overall/other commentary: I'm on episode 10 so far and I haven't been this exited about character interaction, pacing, ongoing plot threads and the frequency with which each of them is continued in a long time!! It's easy to follow but exiting/mystery driven enough to not get boring or predictable. Characters acknowledge the recording and why they verbally describe things more than would be normal, and the show has a good hook for why that is. It feels natural and makes sense :) The main character is a linguist and we get mythology/records of an unknown past civilisation which is absolutely my personal highlight whenever it comes up!

Audiodramasunday Time!

For today's #audiodramasunday, we have a couple shoutouts to include! We're still working in the background, so not much listening going on, BUT we're excited to spotlight some shows that are wrapping up their seasons, or that we've just wrapped up in listening!

First, we truly want to give the HIGHEST props to @ethicstownpod for their S1 finale. The acting and writing were both exemplary, and we won't be able to get some of those moments out of our heads for a while -- really incredible job, you don't want to miss out on this one!

Next up, we're highlighting @tellnotalespod again, because we've just finished their S1 finale, and oh my GOODNESS we're so excited for S2! The cast and crew are incredible, and the story is super intriguing without needing to harp on horror (though we love our scares!) So good!

Queerness in Creation

For Syntax's crowdfunding today, we'd like to highlight one of the major components we try to highlight in TSP -- diversity! Everyone has a special voice, and we're proud to say that a large majority of our cast and crew are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community!

We strive to normalize queer voices in media -- in and out of the stories we create -- and hope that we can aid the queer community in helping their dreams become reality.
