More Than Youâll Ever Know
Hey there @prongsie , Iâm sorry for the delay! Youâve been such a trooper this entire event I canât thank you enough for your lovely work, and I hope this partially makes up for the wait. (Fair warning I decided to take the term angst as including injuries. If itâs not to your liking just let me know and I can try figuring something else out!) Enjoy!
Feel free to read your story under the cut or over on my AO3!
When Satya slowly came to she felt like her head had been stuffed with cotton. Everything sounded so distant. For a few brief moments she felt unnervingly numb.
But as she woke back up so did all the pain.
Crying out, her eyes snapped open and she struggled to look down at her leg, to figure out what on earth was causing her so much pain. Everything was dark around her, even with her eyes open but she was desperate to see.
She felt so disjointed it took her a moment to realize she couldnât curl over because someone was physically holding her back. Thatâd sheâd actually been sleeping in someoneâs lap before her pain woke her back up. They hugged her close, refusing to let her move. And she realized they had been saying something⊠And she recognized their voice.
âEasy darl, easy. Still alive. Weâre fucked up but weâre still aliveâŠâ
âJamie,â She managed to rasp out. Her throat felt miserable. She must have screamed herself hoarse earlier. âWhat happened? Where-â
Junkrat was quick to cut her off. âDunno the where. As for what and why, we weâre in Oasis. You remember that?â
Everything hurt. It almost hurt to even try thinking. But slowly, breathing through her nose and gritting her teeth, Satya was able to recall their mission. The massive battle with Talon.
And almost immediately she felt a pit grow in her stomach.
âThe girls! Where are they! Hanna, Brigitte, Efi-â
âThey got away. Got through that portal you madeâ Junkrat said, keeping his voice low before grimacing at their current situation. âCanât say the same thing about us thoughâŠâ
Satya could remember now. The bridge was about to fall, her plan had originally been to open a teleporter so their teammates, their temporary charge Efi and they could get through back to safety. Hanaâs meka had to be abandoned after it was fried. Brigitteâs shields had been completely depleted, sheâd insisted on spending the last of it protecting Satya as she opened the pathway. Theyâd managed to get all three girls through before a massive explosion rocked the entire bridge and sent the entire thing crashing down, with Junkrat, Symmetra and countless others still on it. Free falling surrounded by debris.
âJamie?â Satya groaned. Ignoring Jamisonâs worried noises as she tried to sit upright. âJamie? What happened to my leg?â
âNothing good Iâm afraid. I ainât Mercy so I donât know whatâs wrong exactly. But I patched you up best I could.â
Satya finally looked down and sure enough she saw her leg. Jamison had taken the time to wrap a huge portion of her left thigh and both of her calves in bandages. From what she could see though there was deep bruises peeking out from under those bandages. And when she shifted her shoulders Satya realized she must have hurt her arms as well.
âJust donât put any weight on it. Relax. Donât want you hurting yourself anymore...â Junkrat tried to keep his normal inflection, but he couldnât hide how worried he must be because Satya can hear it clear as day and it hurts her heart a little.
Sheâd rather not think about that. Instead she leaned back into Jamisionâs arms and just thought. And quickly it dawned on her what was bothering her about their current story. Besides her getting so badly hurt and the giant gap that seemed to exist between the bridge falling and now.
âDid anything else happen? Before the explosions?â Satya asked. âIf we fell off the bridge from the height we were at we would most likely be dead. Not hurt.â
âYeah, thatâs what Iâm trying to figure out.â Jamison agreed. âI remember the girls getting through the pathway. And I remember you and I falling down. But after that it gets fuzzy. Dunno what happened exactly.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âI mean my brainâs telling me we saw this neon purple glowing! Then it all went black. And I woke up here with you, just before some Talon blokes locked us away. But Iâm not sure how real any of that is!â
Satya tried to recall but if there was any sort of technology developed that utilized a neon purple light, she hadnât heard of it. At least none that was used for matter suspension or teleportation like she was thinking of.
Jamison continued when Satya wasnât able to give him an answer. âDonât know how they did it, or what they want. But they got us Symâ. And they got us good. I swear itâs like-â
Jamison suddenly cut off and yelped when Satya tried to shift and bumped up against his leg.
âJamie! Jamison, Iâm so sorry! What did I do?â
Trying to ignore how Jamisonâs whimpers stabbed directly into her heart, Satya looked back down and realized he had taken off his home-made leg and thrown it a few feet away. And not only was Symmetra suffering from wounded legs but Junkrat had been as well. And she noticed how heâd used ripped clothes over his own wounds rather than the proper bandages that had been used on Satyaâs own legs.
âWhy didnât you tell me you were hurt too?â
âIt ainât a big deal.â
âAnd why didnât you use proper bandages on your legs?â
âUsed them all up on your wounds. But itâs fine, ainât a big-â
âIt is to me!â Satya said, louder than she originally intended. Continuing, she tried to lower her voice. âHow can you stand even holding me in this state? If youâre even in a fraction of the pain Iâm in right now you should be miserable.â
âItâs fine.â Junkrat said again with a huff. âIâm use to the pain.â
Satya heard enough. Trying to ignore the twinge in her shoulder she looked over her hard-light arm. Thankfully her hand hadnât been confiscated by whoever took them. And just like sheâd expected, there were two healing charges left from their battle before. While nowhere close to the healing powers of Mercy each of Satyaâs own charges could aid a little in rapid regeneration and healing. Two charges shared between them wouldnât be enough to heal all their wounds. However, two might be enough to heal at least one of them completely.
Ignoring her own pain, and ignoring the dread of having to suffer on her own without painkillers for who knew how long, ignoring her own self-preservation and selfish fears, Satya used her last two charges to completely heal Jamison.
For a few moments his whole body shivered. And then as if a string had been cut he finally sagged in relief. When he realized what sheâd done, he turned to her. Livid.
âWhat the- The hellâd you do that for!?â
âI only had enough power to heal one of us.â Satya explained slowly.
âYeah? And you wasted it all on me!?â
âIt wasnât a waste Jamison.â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
âYou shouldâa used it on yourself!â Jamison groaned, exasperated. âJust look at you! You looked like youâre crawling away from deathâs door! Why didnât you just help yourself?â
âAnd just leave you to continue suffering silently?â Satya asked with a raised eyebrow. âJamison I care about you! I love you! And if I have any power in the matter than I refuse to let you suffer!â
Jamison wanted to retaliate. But at first there was nothing he could say. So he let out a frustrated groan that practically turned into a scream. âI hate this!â He said, while mad he only hugged Satya tighter. âThis is so messed up!â
âYouâre acting like I ruined everything.â Satya huffed.
âCause you did!â Jamison snapped back. âIf I was hurt I could grit my teeth, muster through like I usually do!â
Satya tried to turn around to glare at Jamison, gingerly turning her body. âAnd you donât think I can⊠Muster like you said?â
âI donât want you to have to Satya! I donât want you to be in pain! I donât like seeing you hurt like this!â Jamison practically cried out.
âAnd I feel the same way about you.â Satya stated plainly, though talking so much was beginning to take its toll on her. The longer she talked the hoarser and weaker her voice got. âNow at least one of us has been healed and in my opinion itâs for the better that it was the person risking infection because they dressed their open wounds and broken bones with dirty tatters-â
Jamison grumbled, in a way he knew she had a point, even if he hated it. And he could tell that all this arguing was becoming too much for her. âAlright, alright, calm down. Youâre gonna hurt yourself even more if you keep this up.â
For a while things grew quiet once again. The silence of their dark cell was almost deafening. Jamison assumed Satya had fallen back asleep when he heard her voice come back in a hushed tone. Her eyes closed softly and her breathing finally evening out.
âJamison?â
âDarl?â
âI donât regret my decisions.â
âYeah, I figured that much-â
âBecause I believe in you.â
Jamison fell silent, surprised, and let her continue uninterrupted.
âI know you. I love you. And I know if anyone can figure out a bad mess itâs you. I have no doubts that together we can find a way through all thisâŠâ
Jamison shook his head sadly. âYou shouldnât say that. Iâm stuck in the dark here just as much as you.â
âEven if thatâs true you still have me⊠Iâm not sure how much help I can be physically-â
âAnd whoâs fault it tha-â
âBut Iâm still here.â Satya said, firmly. And you were right weâre both still alive. Weâll find our way. And when we see our opportunity weâll take it and leave all this behind.â
âYou really think so?â Jamison couldnât hide his worry. âWhat if we never see an opportunity? What if weâre stuck here, left to die? We have no idea where we are and youâre too weak to move, and I donât wanna break anything else on you carrying yaâaround!â
âExactly when did you forget we are the teammates of trained scientists and military specialists?â Satya asked, her voice only having a small fraction of her normal dryness it normally had but still being effective even while struggling to stay awake. âIâm sure somewhere outside of here the team is waiting for us. Looking for us. No matter what either weâll go to them or theyâll come in here and help us. Jamison, you arenât alone in here. We arenât aloneâŠâ
âYou really think that?â Jamison asked. She knew he already doubted her and himself.
âWhat else can we believe in?â Satya replied lightly. Whatever willpower Satya had to stay awake ebbed away and she fell back asleep for real.
Jamison continued to just hold her. Hugging her close. And brushing a few strand of hair away from her face as her body went slack and her head turned. He held her like she was one of the most precious things in his world. And whether she knew it or not she truly was. Never had he ever met a person like Satya Vaswani. A person who turned all his expectations upside down, caught him by surprise, and managed to steal his heart from his chest. He already knew heâd never meet another person in his entire lifetime quite like herâŠ
And he still couldnât believe her. That the Symmetra, paragon of logic, reason and wisdom, had done something so reckless. So stupid! Throwing all her strategy and smarts to the wind and wasting her power on someone like him. Someone who was use to pain. Someone use to dragging himself away on bloody hands and lick his wounds. Someone who knew how to take care of himself for the most part.
She knew all that and still she choose to heal him over himself.
And it was the reasons that caught him off guard the most. She did it because not only did she love him, but she believed in him. She trusted him. She trusted him so whole-heartedly that she refused to even heal herself because she had faith that he would be able to look after her. That heâd be able to form a better plan to get them out of here.
And Jamison âJunkratâ Fawkes would be a dead man if he failed Satya now.
So gently readjusting himself so he didnât jostle Satya, he moved her to rest on his healed legs and began to actually look around their cell. Heâd been so caught up in Satya when he first woke up heâd hardly even paid attention to where they were. It just as dark and dreary as heâd assumed but when he let his eyes adjust he began to notices the edges of the room, where the walls met the ceiling and the floor. And where they met a door as well.
âDonât you worry, âMetra.â He whispered, leaning down and kissing her on the forehead. âIâm gonna figure this mess out and springâus before you know it.â
Almost as if replying, Satya murmured something in her sleep before sighing and slipping away again.
She was right, Jamison thought with a small smile, time to stop dawdling and get to work! No point in waiting for the rest of the team find them first!

Satya Vaswani Smile
Hey @threepointonefourmakesxai ! I went and made you a fic based off of your request. Thank you so much for participating in this event! I hope you enjoy this and I hope you have a wonderful new year!
You can read your story either under the cut or over on my AO3!
Junkrat fucked up.
He didnât know when exactly, or even how. But at some point this which for whatever the reason he fucked up things with Symmetra.
She was still working next to him in the labs. But she would hardly look at him! And when she spoke to him she was so clinical and curt. More so than usual. So much that itâd finally dawned on Junkrat that Satya was intentionally trying not to speak with him. That she was mad with him.
And Junkrat had no idea what he did.
Maybe a year ago he wouldnât have cared. He definitely wouldnât have worried over apologizing, he wouldnât even bother with any of that nonsense. He would have just ignored the lady, brush her aside just as quickly as she was ostracizing him, call her another one of those stuffy suits, cause a few pranks to get a rise out of her then just⊠move on with his life.
But this wasnât just some lame old suit. This wasnât a faceless nobody who heâd just go on to forget. This wasnât even the same woman heâd met when they first joined the team, a woman he assumed would always judge him and never see him as more than a criminal or a coward. This was Satya Vaswani, this was Symmetra. And âMetra had come to be one of the most precious people in his life. The only person who shared that title was Roadhog.
So if Symmetra was mad at him than he needed to figure out a way to win back her favor or die trying!
First he tried to figure out what the hell he even did wrong.
He was tempted to just go ask her but whenever he got close to Symmetra sheâd either glower at him, or worse yet her face would stay completely neutral and sheâd just raise a single eyebrow, as if daring him to take another step closer and see what would happen. And while not always the safest person on the Overwatch team he at least had enough self-preservation to know he ought to avoid Symmetra. At least until he had a plan of fixing whatever he did and apologizing.
So without knowing exactly what he did wrong, Junkrat began formulating a way to make things up to Symmetra. He started off by trying to think of all the sorts of things he knew the woman actually liked. In the time theyâd come to know one another and even develop a relationship heâd learned there was a lot more to Satya âSymmetraâ Vaswani than met the eye.
For example, everyone who was anyone knew she was an amazing architect but her fascination went much deeper. She adored art, especially in the 3rd dimension in all its forms such as sculpture, CGI and architecture. And it was more than just art appreciation of simply liking art a lot. For Symmetra that 3rd dimension was a special interest of hers. Going as far as to memorize the names of many great artists as a child and study their styles and inspiration. Even to this day if someone brought the subject up Symmetra could talk for hours on end about art. Many times Junkrat had gotten so caught he almost fooled himself into liking art too just because of how much passion Satya had for the stuff! And it was that dedication and good eye in Junkratâs opinion that had helped Symmetra become an even greater architect. She didnât just see boring towers waiting to be built in over-crowded cities. She saw art and beauty. She wanted to inspire people the way old artists had inspired her.
Also despite being such a regal, poised woman, Symmetra loved to stim. Junkrat had seen her fiddle with a few physical things before, a pen, an object sheâd just built, but she stimmed the most with her hard light. It reminded Junkrat of a man heâd known back in Junkertown who would wind up old strings in his hand into all different kinds of shapes. Symmetra would do so with her blue lights, turning them this way and that until they created these different crystals or towers of interwoven triangles. Whenever she had down time, or felt nervous, or found herself trying to focus intently on a project, like clockwork her mechanical hand would begin glowing and sheâd set off forming light structures. And while most of the time Symmetraâs stim shapes were just nonsense patternâs that built nothing, sometimes Junkrat caught her making little intricate crystals or flowers.
She also loved tea, whenever the two of them went out to a cafĂ© it was a given that while Junkrat got his boba, Symmetra would get her own cup of tea. Though unlike his own iced, half sweet brew, Symmetra preferred a cup of warm freshly-brewed stuff without any sort of milk or sugar. And while she usually got similar things, a few times when she claimed to want to âtreat herselfâ she would order these special brews that came in a glass pot where you could watch as a flower slowly bloomed in the tea or little pearls of dry leaves would unfurl in a nice little showy display.
She also had a soft spot for kids. So worst comes to worst, Junkrat could bring a kid like Efi along with him to make sure Symmetra didnât do anything rash in front of the children. She always wanted to make a good impression on kids, always acting polite and listening to what they had to say.
And while she wasnât very good at caring for plants she still appreciated how they looked and their ability âto seem so simple but truly be so complicated on the cellular levelâ as she put it.
Oh, and even though it could make her homesick at times she still adored Bollywood. The music, the outfits and costumes, the dancing, the movies, all of it!
So at least Junkrat had that, now all he needed to do was figure out what pieces he could use to make things up to Symmetra.
Most of the things he could recall didnât seem to fit together in any perfect pictures. However Junkrat was nothing if not an inventor. And it was his specialty to take small things that seemed like nothing to others and turn them into something they couldnât ignore⊠usually bombs. But he knew that he could figure out how all these small pieces of Symmetraâs interests could fit together into something so great she would have no choice but to stop being mad at him!
Two days later he finally got something and was ready to show it to Symmetra, along with what he hoped would make a good apology.
Symmetra had been in the middle of creating a new model when Junkrat slid a cardboard box in front of her, disrupting her hard light.
âWhat is this Junkrat?â She asked in a humorless dry tone.
Trying not to lose his cool, Junkrat cleared his throat. âUh, why donât you open it up and find out?â
Sighing through her nose, Symmetra dispersed the light from her gauntlet and began unwrapping Junkratâs gift. Heâd done a quick sloppy job taping the box closed, Junkrat expected her to at least comment on the crummy job he did wrapping. But she didnât say anything. She just continued to silently unwrap the box until she could finally pull the tabs apart and see what Junkrat had given her.
Inside was what could probably be best described as an oversized desk ornament. A shelf if you were feeling generous. Held together by a metal frame a few pedestals branched out from a base. Each branch seemed to be molded to look like shining towers in Utopaea, though rather than the shining silver and gold of the city these were made from a more rustic metal that had been painted orange and blue. And within each âtowerâ were different hollowed out spaces. Some of which were already taken up by packages of floral teas or little succulent plants. And scattered all about the little towers were photos and cut pictures. Some Junkrat had found of different cities Vishkar had constructed like Utopaea or Oasis, others that seemed to just be the more natural landscapes of India, but mostly there was pictures taken of their base in Gibraltar, and of all the people the pair now considered friends.
âTah-dah!â Junkrat sang, making jazz hands. âA little something to remind ya of home!â
Symmetra was trying to keep their face neutral. But Junkrat had seen the look of surprise on her face as sheâd taken the little city out of its box, and how that spark of joy had yet to leave her eyes as she ran her hand along the lovingly crafted towers, modeled after her own work.
âThis is indeed a fine show of craftsmanship.â Symmetra said in a bored tone, not even her voice reflected that happiness Junkrat had seen in her eyes. But as she turned her head to Junkrat, she tried to remain serious. âWhat on earth prompted you to build such a thing?â
âOh you know, I couldnât help but notice youâve been⊠eh, off these past few days. And I thought, I ought to makeâya something nice and⊠cheer you up?â
Symmretra raised an eyebrow, though she had yet to let go of the little city. âYou spent all this time making this thing just to cheer me up?â She asked, repeating his own words.
âAlso, I uh, I wanted to apologize.â Junkrat said nervously, hand subconsciously going to rub at the back of his head. He could hardly look at her and waited for the other shoe to drop.
âSo yeah, Iâm real sorry âMetra. About all⊠that?â
Whatever small look of happiness on Symmetraâs face seemed to instantly die as she looked at him directly. For a moment Junkrat was horrified that she was going to smash Junkratâs gift on the ground but instead she set it down gently in the center of her workbench. Her constant, emotionless gaze however did little to make Junkrat feel any better.
âTell me Junkrat, do you know why youâre sorry?â
And here it was. The moment Junkrat had been trying to avoid. He honestly had no idea whatâd heâd done to piss her off. His best bet was he broke something on accident, but he couldnât recall smashing anything recently. Plus everything in Symmetraâs side of the workshop seemed to be in good condition. His only other guess was that maybe she thought he smelled or something, but heâd been staying on top of his hygiene more recently. Besides that he had nothing. Absolutely nothing.
âUhhhhhhh-â
All at once that calm exterior was dropped and Satya glowered at Jamison with a fire normally only left to the battlefield. âYou completely humiliated me in front of my Vishkar associates!â
âOh, thatâs what that was? When the hellâd I do that?â
âLast Tuesday. I was in the middle of a call with my associates to update them on my work. And Iâd explicitly asked that everyone stay out of the workshop while I made my call. And not only did you walk through! But you were completely shirtless and scratching yourself!â
Everything finally fell into place, Junkrat wanted to say something more thought-out but all that came out was âOhhhhhhhhhhâŠâ
âI canât believe you!â Symmetra continued, massaging her temples. âAfter you left I was reprimanded for your lack of dress code, or professionalism of any sort! It was so humiliating!â
âHey at least you werenât the one runninâaround shirtless!â Junkrat tried to joke, the only reaction he got from Symmetra was another glare. Though she was already starting to lose that fire from moments before. âAnd Overwatch donât even have a dress code. No oneâs ever got on me case for not wearing shirts before.â
âI know, and there is no policies here on how to dress.â Symmetra agreed. âItâs just, I feel like as Iâve been here Iâve grown more lack with my own self-discipline⊠And my meeting was another harsh reminder that I still have responsibilities. A vision to upholdâ
Junkrat frowned. âThat sounds like Vishkar talk.â
âWell, I do owe them my entire career.â Symmetra argued. âMy education⊠The opportunities they gave me. My whole life even.â
âNah.â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
âNo?â
âI donât agree with that.â Junkrat said. âI think no matter how you wouldâa ended up right here doing what youâre doing. Whether you got roped up with a fancy company or not.â
âBut without Vishkarâs training I wouldnât know how to manipulate hardlight.â Symmetra said.
âNo, I mean bigger than that.â Junkrat continued. Reaching over to grab the little city heâd built her. âNo matter how, youâd find a way to do what you do. Sure you can get trained or whatever but you got something bigger than all that. You got a mind. You got ideas and dreams. And you do what you do to make things happen. And you wanna help people. Like really help people.â
Symmetra said nothing, watching as Junkrat placed the city back onto her workbench, sliding it closer so she could see some of the pictures of their Overwatch team.
âSo Iâm sorry I made an ass of myself in front of those suites. But you know what? I donât care about any of those blokes! And I donât think you should either. Cause no matter what youâre already lightyears ahead of those bastards, no matter how they try to drag you down and make you feel bad!â
âYou really think so?â Satya asked.
âSure!â Jamison said, suddenly realize heâd gotten so loud as he talked that he was practically shouting.
But then, for the first time in days, Jamison saw Satya smile, and he knew everything heâd said and done had been worth it.
âThank you JamisonâŠâ
âAny time darl!â

Hey, @thetimeslug, Iâm your Secret Santa for the @symmratgiftexchange, and Iâm so sorry this took so long! Anyways, hope you enjoy the fluff! And as our narrator is a cat, itâs two different kinds of fluff!
