Another Monstrous May prompt fill from last year! This one was for "monster under the bed" and is a kid Sylvie and her Thor ficlet.
-----------------------------------------------------
Something was amiss in Thor’s chambers. He’d discovered his door ajar upon returning from his afternoon history lesson, and felt with a tingle on the back of his neck that there was someone waiting inside.
“Hello?” He called through the crack, but no one answered, so he shoved it the rest of the way open and crossed the threshold with his fists held ready.
He glanced around, noticing a few things appeared to be knocked over and out of place. But by who? And why? A muffled snuffling sound pricked Thor’s ears in the quiet. He paced closer to the bed, and the sound grew louder, and louder still when he crouched down. He dropped onto his hands and knees, and peered under the bed.
He almost startled at the face staring back at him from the thin space. The face was deep blue in color, the skin decorated with ornate ridges, and the red on red eyes seemed to glow in the darkness. The creature’s expression pinched into a sob, and a fresh set of tears followed the tracks already lining her face. Thor matched posture, laying down on his side with his arm serving as a pillow, so the face was no longer sideways, but upright to his eyes.
“I think I’ve gotten a bit old for hide and seek, sister,” He said.
Sylvie gave a wet sounding laugh and managed a wan smile, and he was all at once glad that he’d suppressed his surprise at her ancestral appearance; it was not the first but the second time he’d seen it, after all. The first had been a terrible day, decades earlier, when she had been dangerously sick with a fever too high for her physiology to handle. Mother and Eir enchanted an ice bath so cold it burned Thor’s hand when he touched it, and so he screamed bloody murder when they went to submerge her in it. He knew she was a Frost Giant, but fear overrode logic in his young mind, and he had to be restrained by Odin as she was being lowered in.
But after only a moment in the icy liquid her skin had flushed a deep azure, her terrible shivering ceased, and she’d been able to truly rest for the first time in days, Frigga holding her head to make sure it didn’t slip below the surface in her sleep. “Sister looks weird but pretty,” he recalled saying, while stroking her long, dark hair.
She looked no less so now, if a bit disconcerting when found hunkering under his bed.
“What happened,” Thor coaxed.
Sylvie freed one arm enough to wipe at her nose with her sleeve. “I wanted to show off to the other kids in my botany class today, so–don’t lecture me–I tried to perform a revealing spell for them. It turned back on me and…and it revealed what is under father’s enchantment.” She rushed through the last part, stumbling over her words.
“And what happened next?” Thor scooted a few inches closer and offered his hand, palm up. She took it. Tears welled in Sylvie’s crimson eyes once more.
“They c-called me a m-m-monster,” She sobbed. “I ran right here, because people kept staring at me.”
When looking for safety, she’d come to her big brother’s room. Thor squeezed her chilly blue fingers. “Want me to punch anyone in the nose?”
Sylvie laughed. “No, they’re too little compared to you, it wouldn’t be right. And I’ll get them later, I’ll put snakes in their shoes.”
“As long as no snakes are harmed in the process. Are you ready to come out? You can stay in my room as long as you like, this is a safe to be blue space.”
Sylvie offered her other hand, and he took it and dragged her out from her hiding place. Her tunic and leggings were rumpled and dusty.
“If you want you can rest here with me a bit, and then I’ll go get mother to turn you back, so you don’t have to walk anywhere else like this if you don’t want to.”
She nodded and sniffed, so Thor kicked his boots off and climbed onto the bed, seating himself with his back against the headboard. Sylvie crawled in after him, and laid down with her small head in his lap.
“I can tell you a story, how about the Midgardian one about the bird women who lure sailors to their deaths.”
“They’re called sirens, and I’m too old for stories, but sure.”
“No one is too old for stories, Sylv,” Thor said, and proceeded to tell it with as many embellishments as possible, making sure that the sailors of the Midgardian seas were the villains, pirates invading the siren’s lands, and the sirens weren’t monsters but people defending their home. He stroked her hair all the while, until her breaths were long and even with sleep. He carefully relocated her head to a pillow, and pulled his boots back on.
“If you’re a monster, you’re my little monster,” Thor whispered, then slipped out into the hallway to go find their mother.

CONSIDER:
Loki introduces Thor to all of his friends, his eyes bright, his smile beaming, every bone in his body vibrating with excitement.
LOKI: Thor, this is Casey.
CASEY: Hi.
LOKI: I threatened to gut him like a fish when we first met, but he didn't know what a fish was.
CASEY: Loki got me a couple of beta fish for Yule! (He holds up the fish bowl).
Tumblr media
LOKI: Quiet fellow but very tech savvy. (He winks and claps Casey's shoulder.) Now, over here, we have Ouroboros. We like to call him OB.
OB: That's my nickname!
LOKI: He's the mastermind behind this whole place and everything in it. Would out-engineer Stark's little toys any day!
OB:
Tumblr media
LOKI: Verity!
Tumblr media
LOKI: Thor, this the very first person I met. New leader of the TVA and best there is. Real trooper, this one. Although, we did have a rather rough start...
VERITY: I punched him in slow-motion.
THOR: Oo ... Pray, do you have a recording of it?
LOKI: ANYWAY! I'm surprised she's here today, but allow me to introduce you to the one and only: Sylvie!
Tumblr media
SYLVIE: Loki.
THOR: (eyes narrowing, observing her strikingly familiar clothes) You look ... rather similar.
LOKI: That's because she's me and I'm her, except we're not exactly the same, in fact there are some key differences...
SYLVIE: I have common sense, for one.
LOKI: Long story short, it's all very complicated, we fought, we got close, we fought again--
Tumblr media
SYLVIE: --He's like a stray. Can't get rid of him.
LOKI: Think my tongue is sharp? Watch out for this one's.
Tumblr media
Loki looks across the way to where Mobius stands, hands in his pockets and an indulgent smile on his face. Loki clears his throat as he approaches, his feet slowing as they draw near. He opens his mouth, but Thor beats him to it.
THOR: And you must be Mobius.
Tumblr media
MOBIUS: That's the name I answer to.
THOR: My brother has told me much of you.
MOBIUS: Only good things, I hope.
Tumblr media
THOR: Nothing but.

Well, if it wasn't before, it IS now. High chance it's just coincidence cuz, infinity stones were created around the time of creation of celestials. That old. But I'm just saying, it's a damn good coincidence🤷. My mind thinks what it thinks.

I just want to reflect how much the Loki show ruined Loki as a character for me and how much disheartened I was with it.
I had always wanted a spinoff on him, which explored him more. And the Loki show did anything but that.
Do you guys remember how Loki was in Infinity War for like 5 minutes, yet Tom Hiddleston was at almost every media interaction the cast had? The same thing happened in the show as well. They used him to market the show, then sidelined him in his own show. I think that was unacceptable, because they used Loki as a bait to promote a character that I held no emotions for.
Sylvie.
The argument that one does not like Sylvie because they “hate a strong female character/a character with complex arcs” is so pathetic. I don’t think I would’ve liked Sylvie even if she had the most elaborate arc in the MCU (which she doesn’t) because it just wasn’t meant to be about her.
I wanted to see Loki’s story, his journey, and if you take this moment to interject with the statement that “she’s Loki too, just different”, then I say that I wanted to see our Loki, the one who was broken when he found out that he was the monster parents told their children about at night, the one who had plethora of iconic dialogues while fighting the avengers, who was killed only for us to realize that he wasn’t.
Everytime I said that we needed a Loki spinoff before it was announced was not because I wanted new characters, it was because I wanted to see more of the character that was already there, very much beloved by the fans. I wanted them to explore his character in a deeper sense and maybe dip a little into mythology as well.
I think Loki was one of those characters that neither needed a love interest nor was ready for one. I don’t ship him with either Sylvie or Mobius, because it feels like neither of them genuinely like Loki for who he is.
Loki had far more compelling things they could have explored like his jotun heritage, his trauma from the time with Thanos and his magic that is the only memory he has of Frigga instead of his love life.
The whole show felt like it was written by someone who wasn’t the least bit interested in Loki and barely looked into him before creating his female counterpart.
It feels like a disrespect for the fans who were connected to Loki on an emotional level.
Why am I saying this now, after like 2 years since the show came out?
I don’t know, after hearing the news about season 2 releasing in October, I just feel so upset. Tired. I hate this show much because it made Loki so irrelevant to me. A sidepiece in his own show. He went around in ugly costumes and all the regal vibes I had from him just disappeared.
I still remember a time when Loki was on the top of my favorite characters, and I loved him so much. I still do, but I’m not sure if I’ll watch the 2nd season and my 13 y/o self would hate me for this.
I’ve gotten detached from his character and I hate myself for it because Loki was someone whom I adored more than anything else in the fandom world.
Loki is that one character who is loved by the fanon but absolutely despised by the canon.

If Marvel has a heart the series will end with Mobius and Loki driving together a jet ski, laughing and teasing each other but clearly in love, and then the camera will move to Sylvie, watching from a distance, someone next to her we don't see yet.
And she tells them, "You see? I wasn't lying"
And the camera shows this other person and it's our Thor (audience goes OMG), teared up but with a smile on his face saying, "You weren't. He really is happy"

i feel bad about it but "he killed eighty people in two days" in The Avengers just doesn't seem like that high a number to me? it'd be high for a normal person, but in supervillainy terms that's... a bit crap, really isn't it?
no wonder Thor was so quick to say "he's adopted" the honour of the family is at stake here, you can't let the humans think that's the best any of them can do D:

I made this a while ago so I forgot where I got the inspiration, but I’m OBSESSED with the idea that Loki can manage the whole multiverse but could not run a Dairy Queen

"I think the sun shining on Loki and Thor once again has always been the priority of the story we're telling. But for that meeting to really be fulfilling, we have to get Loki to a certain place emotionally. I think that's been the goal of these two seasons." - Kevin Wright.
This entire conversation proves that Loki is now in the mental and emotional place he needs to be before being reunited with Thor.
Even though his demeanour and tone indicate that it's a painful memory for him to speak about, he acknowledges his past naivety and shame he may feel for his actions, showing that he understands the responsibility his powers and position as a god give him. He's not letting his emotions lead his actions anymore, rather he's thinking logically and selflessly. He's thinking about saving lives, not ruling them for his own gain.
When Loki and Thor reunite again, it'll be as equals, in full understanding of each other, and with so much respect and love for one another.
Overall, I'm so impressed with the journey and growth that Loki has had. My favourite Marvel character from day one, and now, over a decade later, I can say that he's also my favourite Marvel hero ♡
