I remember how there was a 'Bengali' genre on Spotify... It wasn't well curated but at least it existed... Now it's gone :')

There are some spotify curated Bengali playlists still but... Most of the songs in them are Bangladeshi and again most of either by expatriates with a mix of English in them or in Dhakaiya and Sylheti Bangla...

As an Indian Bengali from West Bengal, I feel so unrepresented... Someone tell Spotify to add Indian Bengali songs too so I can vibe along ;_;

umm ,, well much better now! the lockdown has beeen eased in the uk so i’ve been able to go see some members of my family and have been able to go out w 🧔🏽 and that’s been rly lovely bc before the last few weeks, i literally hadn’t left the house since early march .. and well .. let’s just say it was rly demolishing my mental health not to mention the fact that my c*nt of an ex boyf wouldn’t stop harassing me ... but yeh .. the mid point was rly hard for me bc i became like a shell of myself and it was .. v scary .. but as things eased and the sun came out and life got better, i started to return back to my happy bubbly self so 😌��� aA

What is the language called in English and the language itself?

The language is called Rohingya in English and Ruáingga ( رُاَࣺينڠَ) in Rohingya.

Where is the language spoken?

Rohingya has traditionally been spoken in Rakhine State, Myanmar. However, due to the Myanmar government’s genocide of the Rohingya people, most speakers now live in refugee camps in neighbouring Bangladesh.

How many people speak the language?

According to Wikipedia, there were 1.8 million Rohingya speakers in 2012.

Which language family does it belong to? What are some of its relative languages?

Rohingya is an Indo-Aryan language, making it part of the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European family. Specifically, it is part of the Bengali-Assamese language group. Its closest relatives include Bengali, Assamese, Sylheti, Rangpuri and Chittagonian.

What writing system does the language use?

Historically, Rohingya has been written using the Arabic script. A modified version of the Arabic script, called the Hanifi alphabet, was created specifically for the Rohingya language in 1983 and is now commonly used. However, a modified Latin alphabet and an Arabic-based Unicode font are also sometimes employed.

What kind of grammatical features does the language have? 

Rohingya is an SOV language with 12 tenses. It has six cases: nominative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative and vocative. Rohingya third person pronouns do not distinguish between male and female but they do differentiate between animate and inanimate. Indefinite articles can be used before or after the noun.
