Maryam Nawaz Lands Herself in Trouble After Using NZ Fiasco for Political Gains

Vice-President of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz’s controversial tweet on the cancelation of series between Pakistan and New Zealand has lent her into trouble.

The PML-N leader tried to use the New Zealand fiasco for her political gains and received plenty of backlash on Twitter.

“I will make the world respect green passport,” she wrote, pointing to an indirect reference to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement after assuming power.

KARACHI – Under World Bank Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project (SWEEP), $11 million pre-drone surveys have been conducted of all the 38 Nullahs of KMC while environmental and socio-economic management survey is being conducted across Nullahs and dumpsites as per the requirement of the World Bank. 

This was disclosed in a meeting held here with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a chair, said a spokesperson to the CM Sindh on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Minister Local Government Nasir Shah, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Local Government Roshan Shaikh, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, PD Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) Zubair Channa and others.  The Sindh Chief Minister said that under rain emergency arrangements, he had released Rs 229 million and placed the funds at the disposal of all divisional commissioners. “I had issued directives through the chief secretary to all the DCs and MCs to clean Nullahs and make necessary arrangements for disposal of rainwater”.

He added that the Commissioner Karachi requested for additional funds of Rs 30 million which have also been released. Minister Local Government Nasir Shah said that Rain Emergency Cells have been established at LG Department, Commissioners offices, DC offices and at all Municipal Committee offices and 1093 complaint centres have been established.

The chief minister said that the World Bank has agreed to invest the US $ 100 million in Improvement of Solid Waste System in Karachi.

It may be noted that the SWEEP project was conceived in November 2019. The project includes, improvement of garbage transfer stations as per international standards, the establishment of the modern landfill site at Dhabeji, up-gradation of Jam Chakro Landfill site, emergency intervention to clean Nullah of Karachi which serves as main Sewage Carrier of City are being undertaken. SWEEP has an allocation of $11 million for the emergency component. Briefing the chief minister, PD CLICK Project Zubair Channa said that the concept note of SWEEP Project was approved by the Planning Commission on June 8. On the recommendation of WB and as a stop-gap arrangement CLICK was assigned the task of SWEEP. The CLICK was authorized to undertake Nullah cleaning exercise as defined in the SWEEP Project.

At this, the chief minister said that the Sindh government was investing $ 8 million from its resources which would be retro-effectively reimbursed by the World Bank.  Zubair Channa said that the permission of opening Assignment Account had been given by the Finance Department as well as AG Sindh. The National Bank would issue an account number by Monday.  Zubair Channa told the chief minister that the methodology adopted for payment to the contractors was quite transparent and foolproof.

He added that the amount would be paid to contractors based on the quantum of sludge taken out from Nullahs and disposed of or dumped.

At Jam Chakro, a 10-acres land and TP-1 (old sludge tanks) have been identified as designed Dump Sites. Third-party qualification of sludge disposed of dumpsites- NESPAK has been given monitoring and spot-checking assignment. The District specific QR coded slips would be printed for each district. The NESPAK on the basis of the slip would again quantify the sludge at the dumpsite. Only 38 major Nullahs under the administration of KMC have been undertaken in the SWEEP.

The PD told the chief minister that pre-drone surveys have been conducted of all the 38 Nullahs of KMC. The environmental and socio-economic management survey was being conducted across Nullahs and dumpsites as per World Bank requirement.

It may be noted that the KMC has 38 major Nullahs, they include Mehmoodabad Nullah Distt. East, Sungal Nullah Dist East,Manzoor Colony Nallah Dist East,Chakora Nullah Dist East/Korangi, Gujjar Nullah District Central, Qalandria Drain DisttCentral, Orangi Nullah Distt West, Mwach NullahDistt West, SherShah Nallah DisttWest, Soldier Nullah Distt South Garden, Soldier Nullah DisttSouth Maki mosque, Soldier Nullah PIDC DisttSouth, Frere Nullah District South, Akbar Road Distt South, Kalari Nullah Distt South, Pitcher Nullah District South, Mehran Cut (Saadi Town) DisttMalir, Mehran Highway Nullah DisttMalir,8000 Road Drain Korangi Dist (Started)and 9000 Road Drain DisttKorangi (Started).

The chief minister was told that the excavation or cleaning of nullahs has been started in the city. So far quantity 295824 tons of garbage/sludge have been taken from different nullahs located in different districts.

This includes 64269 tons from Central, 86333 tons from West, 55911 tons from South, 77001 tons from East and 12310 tons from Malir. At present, 33 excavators and 69 dumpers have been engaged in different districts to remove the sludge from the nullahs.

The chief minister was told that power outage by KE and HESCO was creating issues of the closure of main pumping stations at disposal points.

The chief minister directed the energy department to talk to KE and HESCO and direct them to exempt pumping stations from their load-shedding.

The chief minister said that the issue of cleaning and reconstruction of nullahs in Karachi were being made under SWEEP. It would resolve the issue once for all and then their maintenance would be managed by the KMC, he said.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said that more than 50 per cent of solid waste dumped in open nullahs was one issue and illegal allotment and encroachments along nullahs was another. He directed the chief secretary to resolve both the issues by giving necessary directives to the concerned departments and institutions.

Corrupt investor Farooq Ghaffar Danawala imposes as Director Rangers, threatening publication house

Cliftonia Plaza breakthrough and the corruption associated with it became the most controversial topic for the allottees, which were unlawfully being sold the flats in crores. Moreover, the flats which were initially booked for 10 -15 lac in 1996 have now been escalated to hundreds of millions.

As soon as the news of corruption went viral, the reporters of Daily Jiddat and Brands Magazine associated with the news were threatened of dire consequences by alleged Director Rangers. However, the man who pretended to be the Director Rangers has now been found as Farooq Ghaffar Danawala. The accused constantly called the newspaper throughout the day and kept threating them through various sources, even offering money to keep quiet on the issue.

Mr. Danawala himself is the central investor in Cliftonia Plaza’s illegal reconstruction, which was found after Daily Jiddat contacted the law enforcing agencies regarding this issue. Danawala along with the cooperation of international terrorist Saif Ullah had been looting people since many years.

The flats which were initially meant to be sold for 10 – 15 lac were now being put up for crores due to the greed of builders, which were adamant on not selling them to the previous owners in original price. Moreover, with the help of Agha Masood Abbas and higher officers at Sindh Building Control Authority, the flats were being sold on extremely high prices.

Since the news regarding Cliftonia Plaza corruption was unearthed, 170 allottees contacted the publication house with more details regarding the incident and applauded them for raising this issue.

However, as soon as the issue became vocal, Agha Masood Abbas maintained his silence without clearing his stance on the money being illegally used for aiding terrorism and other projects. It is being stated that the builders of Cliftonia Plaza are in connection with Al-Qaida terrorist group, with the money being used for the same purposes. Thus, the news has caused quite uproar among the masses striving to fight against corruption in Karachi.

Affected allottees have requested PM Nawaz Sharif, Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa, DG ISI Naveed Mukhtar, Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair Umer, CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Core Commander Karachi, DG Rangers, and DG NAB to take action against these elements which are polluting the name of Rangers working day and night to rid Karachi of terrorism.

Daily Jiddat has also sought a legal action against those who are threatening the publication house by using the name of Rangers.

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (Urdu: اسلامي جميعت طلبه ‎, "Islamic Organization of Male Students") is the male wing of an organization of students influenced mainly by the works of Late Syed Abul-Ala Maodudi.  The headquarters of Islami Jamiat Talaba are located in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. Jamiat was founded on 23 December 1947 in Lahore, and is one of the oldest student organizations in Pakistan (citation needed). Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba is not based on language and ethnic origin. The feminine counterpart, with the same ideology but with a separate structure and organisation, is known as Islami Jamiat-e-Talibaat.

 Purpose

 Islami Jamiat Talaba is a large student organization in Pakistan. It is an independent organization of youth. Also known as the Jamiat ("jam-ee-at"), it is one of the oldest student organizations in Pakistan, founded on 23 December 1947 in Lahore, Pakistan. Islami Jamiat Talaba believes in the oneness of God (Allah) and that Muhammad was the last Prophet of Allah. An openly sectarian organization, Islami Jamiat Talaba successfully pressured the military government of Gen. Zia-Ul-Haq to have Ahmadis (Qadianis) declared "non-Believers" in the national law of Pakistan.

Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan is working in Pakistan to eliminate the non-Islamic factors and the secularism from the curriculum and teachings of the educational institutions of Pakistan.

After the middle east crisis and tension between the Arab states and Qatar this National day held more significance to build up the country’s image than ever before. Although the crisis has temporarily settled down but the effects of the above can be witnessed in the policies of the country. H.E Mishal Al. Ansari the Consul General of Qatar in Karachi celebrated the National day of Qatar on 11th December 2017 at Movenpick hotel in Karachi. The evening filled with Arabian and international cuisine with an interesting choice of menu and variations displaying the grandeur of the celebrated nation.

The event was marked by the presence of Governor Sind M. Zubair Umer, serving Chief Minister Sind Syed Murad Ali Shah, former CM Qaim Ali Shah, Nisar Khoro, Fehmida Mirza, Nusrat Sehr Abbasi, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Mirza Ishitaq Baig along with several other dignitaries on the huge stage whilst on the other end were consul generals of several Muslim countries. The national anthems of both the countries were played and the guests of honor cut the beautifully designed cake. A special authentic Qehwa was given to selected guests prior to the meal in traditional cups with an adequate hint of spices.

The soiree was attended by various celebrated businessmen, political figures like Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jaleel, Zulfikar Mirza, diplomats, representatives of the armed forces and selected people from all walks of life except the main leadership from PSP. The stalls of Qatar Airways & Pak Qatar Takaful were set up right before the entrance. Security measures were ensured by the team of the consulate and the guest list seemed rather handpicked courtesy of Ms. Gulshan of the Qatar Consulate. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Consul General Mishal Al. Ansari and his team for the lovely evening and for bestowing the honor of having me as their guest and I look forward to enjoying their hospitality again very soon.

Hutchison Port Holdings To Facilitate Trade In Pakistan By Making Karachi Port A Major Trade Hub In The Region

Imran Khan, Pakistan’s 22nd Prime Minister, had pledged to make the country ‘investor-friendly’ as one of his missions while being appointed to the seat. He envisioned easing the tax laws and policies in order to encourage foreign and local investments in Pakistan to improve its economic status. In this regard, the Tahreek-e-Insaaf leader welcomed an investment of USD 240 million in the country last month by a Hong Kong-based Port Operator, Hutchison Port Holdings.

The company proclaimed to make Karachi Port a ‘major trade hub’ and increase its container terminal capacity in a meeting with the PM and other delegates on October, 15. The meeting was led by the Group Managing Director, Eric Ip, who briefed the PM about their plan to increase the terminal capacity of Karachi Port, encourage job opportunities in the region (as much as 3000 jobs would sprout because of this investment) and help their company and its parent organization, CK Hutchison Holdings in progressing.  

Among the delegates with the PM were the Advisor to PM on Commerce Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Special Assistant to PM Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, Chairman Board of Investment Zubair Haider Gilani and Ambassador at Large for Foreign Investment Mr. Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, among others.

This investment is one of the many investments that the Hong Kong Port Operator has done in Pakistan, totaling to $1 billion as of now. The Ambassador at Large, Ali Jehangir Siddiqui views this investment as a means of economic growth and prosperity in the country. Since the country has a fairly priced currency, the demand for exports is high. This investment, according to Jehangir, will increase the country’s export competitiveness.

Hutchison Port Holdings is a renowned port company in the world, with its operations expanding across the world. With terminals in 27 countries and 52 operating ports, the company works with a workforce of 30,000 employees. The port they are operating in Karachi is situated at the Keamari Groyne Basin, which facilitates easiest route to Karachi for trade and investment. This investment will further pave the road for more foreign investments in Pakistan, under the trade-friendly policies of PM Imran Khan.
