🎶✨when you get this, put 5 songs you actually listen to, then publish. Send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers/mutuals (negotiable, dont feel pressured or anything lol)✨🎶
Uhhh, I’m an EDM enjoyer, so my taste in music is kinda fucked. I will try to provide some variety though:
1. Chrysalis by purity://filter (From the imago EP):
This is purity://filter’s most popular track, and for good reason. It’s hard to find a word that I feel describes this track. I looked pretty hard for a word and I feel like superlunary kinda describes this track (or at least how it feels to me).
2. Necro Culture Vulture by Machine Girl (From The Ugly Art):
Time for some good ole fashioned tonal whiplash! This is a Digital Hardcore track. This track is one of my favourites because I not only saw it performed live at Machine Girl’s Sydney show, but I was in the pit as Matt (the main force behind Machine Girl) was moving around the pit and was practically right next to me for the entire track.
I experienced collective effervescence to this song.
3. weird circle by Rory in early 20s (Single):
This track has such a weird vibe (in a good way). The way it sounds (especially in the beginning) kinda makes me think of old school pulpy sci-fi horror, alien invasion kinda stuff. Does that make sense or am I weird for that?
4: Delusional Standards by Filmmaker (From Motion Pictures Regime):
This was a hard pick, there’s a lot of good stuff on Motion Pictures Regime, and I really wanted a track that captured Filmmakers weird distinctive vibe, which almost kinda feels darkly sexy (I once heard somebody describe it as scary sex dungeon music). I’m not sure if this track is the best pick for that, but it is one of my favourites, so…
Lastly, it feels like It would be a bit of a letdown to say that I like EDM and then simply not include a certified NEURONE ACTIVATOR!!! on this list. And so, I present a song that I haven’t listened to in quite a while but that certainly does fill that NEURONE ACTIVATOR!!! niche, here we go:
5: Fifth Grade by Goreshit (From Tomboyish Love for Soda Pop and Apple Sweets (Digipak) ):
This track almost fucking wiped me the fuck out the first time I heard it. It starts off as just a sample from Azumanga Daioh, and then you hear the fucking Amen Break starting to come in, and then it stops, right before everything goes to SHIT! It’s fucking nuts, the first time I heard this track I felt my fucking pupils dilate as I was blasted by pure auditory stimuli. It feels like Goreshit made this track for the sake of self parody, it’s absurd, I laughed while listening to this for the first time. It’s funny as fuck to slip into other peoples playlists and just watch as confusion turns to panic.
Is it a good track? Probably not, it’s not exactly complex, it’s trashy doof doof music. Goreshit’s more recent work (like the stuff on the propa bo! EP) is 100% more palatable and probably just better musically, but holy fuck Fifth Grade is the archetypal old school Goreshit track. It is 100% a neurone activator.
This was Goreshit’s My Love Feels All Wrong weeb shit era. It’s probably good that we have moved beyond that era, but good god was it just a whole lot of dumb fun.
