Summary: City life never really did anything for Kirishima. Sure, he enjoyed the hustle and bustle, and all the food options were nice, but it could get to be a little overwhelming at times. He longed for open skies, dirt roads, and the smell of clean air.
City life never really did anything for Kirishima. Sure, he enjoyed the hustle and bustle, and all the food options were nice, but it could get to be a little overwhelming at times. He longed for open skies, dirt roads, and the smell of clean air.
So, when his school’s fall break happened, he made certain to hell his moms that he would be coming home for a visit. He was slightly disheartened to hear that they wouldn’t be home, but they assured him he was more than welcome to come home, and could even bring his boyfriend, if he wanted. That excited him to no end! He’d be able to show Bakugou the house he grew up in!
Though he was a little nervous—Bakugou was a city boy through and through. What if he didn’t like it? What if he decided he didn’t want to be with a country boy anymore? The thought terrified him, but he pushed past his anxieties and asked Bakugou to accompany him, and of course the other man said yes. Silly Kirishima—see! He had nothing to fear!
The end of the school week came quicker than Kirishima realized, and as he loaded his and Bakugou’s belongings into the bed of his pickup truck, the nerves made a reappearance. This was a big step for them! Bakugou silently reassured him with a hand on his thigh, squeezing lightly. That small gesture was enough to quell Kirishima’s nerves for the long drive ahead of them.
The radio crackled to life, the song one of Kirishima’s favorites, and he sang along as they drove, one hand on the wheel and the other reaching down to twist fingers with Bakugou. The drive wasn’t anything noteworthy or special, but the time spent with his boyfriend was enough to make it all worth it to him. Kirishima found himself sneaking glances at the other man out of the corner of his eye as the cityscape dwindled and the countryside began. The sun was illuminating his sharp features, casting a soft light on him and making him look very kissable. But now wasn’t the time to think about such things. He had to get them to his family house in one piece. Then, and only then, could he think about ravishing the love of his life.
Soon enough, they had to stop for gas, the older truck not getting the best of mileage as the newer vehicles. But he would be damned if he gave up on ol’ Riot so easily. Bakugou stood off to the side of the convenience store, a lit cigarette in hand as he shivered from the chill of the day, his coat doing nothing to stop the cold air from seeping in. Kirishima chuckled softly, taking in just how city-like Bakugou looked. It was like he was ripped from one of those fancy fashion magazines and dropped down into the middle of nowhere. It was bizarre, but he loved it.
“Oi, whatcha laughing at?” Bakugou barked out, walking over to the now full truck.
“Just how funny it is to see you in the country. I can’t believe you’d come here with me, that's all.” He knew it was better to be honest with Bakugou, even if it meant putting himself out there.
“Of course I’d come, idiot,” Bakugou scoffed, but there was no heat behind it. “You’ve come to my parents’ house many times. Why you subject yourself to that, I’ll never know. So yeah, I’d like to go to your childhood home for once.” Bakugou’s cheeks were tinted red at this, and it took all of Kirishima’s strength to not tackle him with kisses right then and there. His boyfriend was so cute!
“I just hope you like it. The country is a lot different than the city, that’s for sure!” Kirishima laughed as they got back into the truck.
“A change of pace sounds like a good thing. Besides, I’ll have you to keep me entertained if I get bored. Since I’m such a ‘city boy’ as you put it.”
“Oh believe me, there will be lots to keep you occupied while we’re there. And that’s not including the first day where it will be nothing more than you and me breaking in my childhood bedroom.” The suggestive comment and eyebrow waggle was met with a hard smack to the shoulder, which only made Kirishima laugh more.
As they drove away from the gas station and toward Kirishima’s family house, he couldn’t help but feel at peace. He was in a happy relationship finally, he was taking his boyfriend home for the first time, and he found someone that accepted him for who he was—country roots and all. He had tons planned for them this week; things that would give Bakugou a taste of what it would be like to grow up how he did. But as they rode along, both singing off-key to the crackly radio, all of those things could wait. He wished he could capture this moment on film, watching Bakugou sing along to his favorite country song, but since he couldn’t he was going to commit it to memory. For once in his life, Kirishima was happy. And he had a certain city boy to thank for that.
