Countdown to Infinite Crisis (Reading Order)
I love DC Comics, and despite being an unpopular opinion, I love the build up and aftermath of Infinite Crisis, because that was the era when I started reading. Frankly, I can't believe we're reaching the 20th anniversary of the event, soon.
While single character / author runs are what are usually lauded in most comics circles, I believe the sprawling epic events (when done well) are a unique charm of Superhero comics that a reader should experience.
What I hope to accomplish is by giving you my recommended reading order, it'll add more texture to the event as a whole.
Part 01 - Count Down to Infinite Crisis
Tumblr media
So it all starts with the special issue "Countdown to Infinite Crisis #1" where the Blue Beetle - Ted Kord is investigating who has been stealing money from Kord Industries. In the end, the Blue Beetle is assassinated and his death is a catalyst for nearly everything that follows.
Part 02 - The OMAC Project
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is the weirdest reading order in my entire collection)
The OMAC Project #1-6 directly follows up the death of Blue Beetle as Batman investigates the death of Ted Kord, but also searches for who has gained control of the Spy Satellite he build Brother Eye. Turns out it was taken over by a government agency called Checkmate, and is controlled by a former JLA ally, Maxwell Lord. At the climax, Max uses mind control powers to set Superman against his two friends, and it ends with Wonder Woman killing Maxwell Lord.
In the middle of the OMAC Project, (between issues 3/4) you should stop and read the Superman : Sacrifice storyline. This gives us the point of view of Superman. We get to see that Max had been giving him visions of Lois dying. This story can be found in Superman #219, Action Comics #829, Adventures of Superman #642, and Wonder Woman #219) Sacrifice illustrates just how important Lois is to Superman, and I believe it can make you more sympathetic for Kal-L during Infinite Crisis.
Tumblr media
Finally, after The OMAC Project #6, you should read the aftermath of both events in Wonder Woman: Missions End. Diana tries to deal with the repercussions of her actions. Now, suddenly, the whole world is turning against her over the death of Maxwell Lord. This story is found in Wonder Woman #220 - #221.
(You should also read Adventures of Superman #643 for a nicer cap to the story)
When you read it like this, it really inflates The OMAC Project as the event that really did tear the Trinity apart.
Part 03 The Day of Vengeance
Tumblr media
The Day of Vengeance #1-6 are pretty straight forward. The Spectre goes on a rampage to destroy all Magic in the DCU, and so a new magical team The Shadow Pact band together to TRY stop him. These events carry over into Infinite Crisis itself.
Part 04 The Rann-Thanagar War
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Rann-Thanagar War is mostly about a Cult on Thanagar that is trying to destroy the universe, meanwhile there is tension between the forces of Rann and Thanagar that don't fully explode into open war until the end of the mini series. You can find the main story in The Rann-Thanagar War #1-6.
After the mini-series, my recommend reading is The Outsiders : Crisis Intervention. This plot is a bit of a tie-in for all other events. At first, the Outsiders are dealing with the aftermath of The Spectre, then part of the team goes into space to help Donna Troy, and finally the other half of the team clashes with the Secret Society of Supervillains. You can read it in The Outsiders #29-33.
I like it as a spotlight on Roy Harper, Arsenal. He's dealing with what kind of hero he wants to be. Grace his teammate says he's not a dark vigilante like Nightwing, like Batman. Roy is a swashbuckling Hero, like Green Arrow. This is great when you know Roy ends up joining the Justice League after Infinite Crisis.
(BTW, the Return of Donna Troy is also a tie-in, but it is terribly boring. Just read this Crisis Intervention to get the lowdown on Donna Troy's part in all this.)
Part 05 Green Lantern Corps - Recharge
Tumblr media
This is also taking place in the aftermath of The Rann-Thanagar War, but it is removed enough that I count it as separate. Since the war in space is steadily expanding in the background, the Green Lantern Corps is looking for new members. It's a great look at the other Green Lanterns that had been pushed aside by the return of Hal Jordan. You can read this in the mini-series Green Lantern Corps : Recharge #1-6.
Part 06 Villains United
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is following up on the aftermath of Identity Crisis. The villains created a secret society to take revenge on the heroes for altering people's minds. However, there's a secret group of villains that are united against the Secret Society. You can read the main story in Villains United #1-6
And you can see some follow up in Birds of Prey : Perfect Pitch, where the Calculator has set his mind to capturing Oracle, and it ends with a rematch between Black Canary and Deathstroke. It's a great spotlight for the team (And Gail Simone's writing.) You can read the story in Birds of Prey #86-90
Part 07 JSA Classified : Power Trip
Tumblr media
Also known as "Power Girl : Power Trip"
This is a storyline from the JSA Classified books that serves to highlight Power Girl's confusing origin as she is plagued by illusions of people claiming to know the truth. And it ends leading directly into Infinite Crisis #2. You can read this storyline in JSA Classified #1-4.
Part 08 JLA Crisis of Confidence
Tumblr media
Finally, the dark secret of the JLA comes back to destroy the team. Long ago, the inner circle of the JLA used magic to alter villains memories. Those villains are back for revenge, and while the heroes do ultimately come out victorious, the JLA disbands in disgrace. But it also ends with the destruction of the JLA moon base, which leads directly into the first issue of Infinite Crisis. This story is found in JLA #115 - 119
Tumblr media
When you take it all in, you understand how monumental the event was. The villains are united just as the JLA community could not be more broken. Then the main event of Infinite Crisis is pretty epic, too.
I love this era, and I wish more people would learn to embrace it.

It was less than ideal, affected my family more: Maxwell on Adelaide night out fiasco
Tumblr media
Ending up in hospital after a late-night party in Adelaide was "less than ideal", conceded Australian swashbuckler Glenn Maxwell about the headline-grabbing incident last month, saying his family was affected more than him by the dramatic turns of events.
Maxwell was out drinking and watching a concert by 'Six and Out', the band featuring former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, when he felt unwell and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance last month. He reportedly lost consciousness during the ride.
"I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me. I knew I had that week off. And obviously that incident was less than ideal, and the timing," Maxwell was quoted as saying by the 'Australian Associated Press'.
"But I had that week (during which the incident took place) off, I knew I had that week off away from the game," he said.
On Sunday, the 35-year-old showed that he remains Australia's most dangerous batter in the shorter formats as he smashed a sensational 120 not out off 55 balls against the West Indies. It was a record-equalling fifth T20I hundred for him.
"...I came back and got back into my running, my gym program and it felt really good and refreshed once I got back. And it's all been focused on getting myself ready for this (T20) series and what's to come," he said.
Cricket Australia (CA) had launched an investigation into the incident and as a result, he was not a part of the preceding ODI series against the West Indies. Later, head coach Andrew McDonald urged the big-hitter "to hold up his end of the bargain" and "take care of himself".

[ad_1] NEW DELHI: Swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell fired a record-shattering ODI World Cup ton -- fastest ever -- off just 40 balls as Australia blew away Netherlands in a one-sided affair in the national capital on Wednesday. On his way to a mind-boggling 44-ball 106, Maxwell smashed nine fours and eight sixes to power Australia to a mammoth 399 for eight. Maxwell, who was averaging 12.4 in ODIs in 2023 and hadn't hit a half-century in India in ODIs since the start of 2017 after that match said he drew on his experience of playing in India, including the IPL to fire the record ton. "The fact that I've made runs in India during the IPL pretty regularly over the last couple of years, so I'm not too worried about people saying that I haven't made runs in ODI cricket because it doesn't really matter, especially my role in one-day cricket," Maxwell said at the post-match press conference after Australia hammered Netherlands by 309 runs."It's so similar to T20, so I just draw on those experiences, knowing that if I do get it right on the day, hopefully my team will be winning.AUS vs NED, ICC World Cup 2023: Glenn Maxwell smashed fastest hundred in ODI World Cup"Having had a bit of success this year in India during the IPL, I've come to India during this World Cup full of confidence and even started well in the practice games with a good 70 against Pakistan," he said."People talk about my last 20 ODI games but they're spaced out over 6 years over different continents all over the place and one game at a time every four months, so there's not really much you can sort of go by."Maxwell, who also had scored a hundred in 51 balls against Sri Lanka in the 2015 edition, said he is always aware of the statistics."I'm very aware of them. I'm very aware of balls faced. I love the fastest 50, fastest 100 records. I think they're pretty cool records," he said when asked if he keeps an eye on the stats."Sometimes to the detriment of myself, I've always probably pushed the boundaries a bit too much. I think against Afghanistan in 2015, I was 88 off 37 and I was like I'm getting into the next two balls I hit one straight to cover and butchered it. I think I got my fastest 100 next game," he said."...I've been in those positions before I could make fast hundreds when I get on the run - I know I'm difficult to bowl to. It's just about getting past the first ball."Maxwell said he wasn't in great shape ahead of Wednesday's match."Yeah, not great. I was sitting in the changing room and I didn't really want to bat, which is a bit different than last game where I was way too eager to get out there," he said without specifying the exact reason."I was a little bit more chilled when I got out there. Didn't have many high hopes, I think. But yeah, I've been pretty cooked over the last couple of days. Coincided with the sleepless night last night with the family over..."Maxwell had a difficult last 12 months where he broke his leg in a freak accident and then recovered only to have an ankle soreness after the T20 series against South Africa."There's probably moments post the South Africa T20 series when I was forced to go home with a little setback. That was quite a frustrating period," he said."I felt like I had done a lot of good work post the blast, all that rehab back at home in Melbourne and I felt like my strength and my fielding stuff was going really well and to have that set back on day one of my training was quite frustrating."You do start to get some dark thoughts of like, is this going to affect me for the whole World Cup? Am I going to be struggling to get through every game? Am I going to be letting the team down by having to field in cold zones on the field where I'm not getting much ball?"That wouldn't have sat well with me I think if that had been the case. The fact that I don't have to be hidden in the field is quite nice," he added.Maxwell, however, was not too pleased with the light show during drinks break of matches at the ongoing World Cup."Well, I had something like that light show similar happened at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game and I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust," he said."I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers when you've got this thing coming at you quickly and your eyes take so long to adjust and I think we just lost a wicket and the Perth Stadium lights went nuts and I was at the other end and it took me ages to get my eyes to go again."It's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players," Maxwell added.(With inputs from PTI)!(function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) ; var TimesApps = window.TimesApps; TimesApps.toiPlusEvents = function(config) var isConfigAvailable = "toiplus_site_settings" in f && "isFBCampaignActive" in f.toiplus_site_settings && "isGoogleCampaignActive" in f.toiplus_site_settings; var isPrimeUser = window.isPrime; if (isConfigAvailable && !isPrimeUser) loadGtagEvents(f.toiplus_site_settings.isGoogleCampaignActive); loadFBEvents(f.toiplus_site_settings.isFBCampaignActive); loadSurvicateJs(f.toiplus_site_settings.isSurvicateActive); else var JarvisUrl="https://jarvis.indiatimes.com/v1/feeds/toi_plus/site_settings/643526e21443833f0c454615?db_env=published"; window.getFromClient(JarvisUrl, function(config) if (config) loadGtagEvents(config?.isGoogleCampaignActive); loadFBEvents(config?.isFBCampaignActive); loadSurvicateJs(config?.isSurvicateActive); ) ; )( window, document, 'script', ); [ad_2] Source link

Liam was used to filling in for Leo at a moment’s notice; participating in conference calls with ambassadors for early morning updates when Leo overslept, and attending meetings with ministers when Leo went AWOL. He’d grown accustomed to his brother’s antics, but he wondered how Bastien managed to keep his position, when he’d lost track of Leo’s whereabouts countless times.
While Leo spent more time avoiding his duties as Crown Prince of Cordonia, Liam dutifully took on the extra responsibilities in stride. It often meant partitioning his already packed schedule to sit in on vital cabinet meetings or dining with visiting dignitaries, but sometimes Leo’s vanishing acts gave Liam the opportunity to travel.
Though their ambassadors handled the majority of day-to-day relations with other countries for trade, Constantine preferred to meet face-to-face when he could. One such time, a lingering cough turned to walking pneumonia, restricting Constantine to as much bed rest as possible. It also meant sending Leo to Japan for a meeting with the Prime Minister in his stead.
It would have been fine, if Leo hadn’t pulled another one of his disappearing acts.
--
A week later, Liam was seated on the royal jet on his way back from Tokyo, navy attache with espresso brown leather trim in the chair next to him. Across from him, Maxwell chatted with Anya over various Thai dishes. On the other side of the plane, Drake was in a heated discussion with leggy blonde Anitah while the ladies’ petite friend Donna observed in silence, fighting back a grin. “You’re an imbecile if that’s your opinion,” Anitah declared, raising her hands up in the air. “Are you sure that’s the hill you wanna die on?”
Drake smugly sipped from the crystal tumbler in his hand. “I’m right and you know it.”
“What are you two talking about?” Liam asked, relieved to think about anything other than what was in the bag and why it was so important he hand deliver it to his father.
“Fight Club being a better cinematic masterpiece than The Princess Bride,” Drake replied. “You guys agree, right? If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, you’d want to watch Tyler Durden fight the system instead of some…” he paused to sneer at Anitah, who crossed her arms and stuck out her tongue at him, “...story about a swashbuckler rescuing a princess? She’s not even a real princess!”
“Fight Club is such a guy movie though,” Anya argued, turning in her seat to face Drake. “Princess Bride appeals to men and women, with a much larger audience.”
“Okay, that’s two for Buttercup,” Drake sighed. “Maxwell? Li?” He looked at his friends expectantly.
“Fight Club, definitely,” Maxwell said, nodding his head. He’d spent the better part of the trip doing everything to get into Drake’s good graces after the octopus incident on the first night in Tokyo.
Before Liam could respond, a commotion from the front of the plane made everyone’s heads turn, where a pair of Kings Guards and two flight attendants were seated near the galley. One of the guards slipped into the cockpit, rushing out a moment later in Liam’s direction, as the jet slowly tilted to the right. “Apologies, Your Highness. Do you or any of your guests happen to speak Triydalian?”
Anya slowly raised her hand. “I knew a bit when I was a kid, but I haven’t used it in years.”
The guard motioned for her to join him. “Please come with us, miss. The pilots need a translator.”
“Is everything alright, Remy?” Liam peered past the guard, eyes widening at the sight of the other guard and one attendant hovering in front of the other attendant in a chair.
“We need to land the plane, Sir,” Remy answered, ushering Anya up from her seat. “Ramona passed out. She’s breathing but unresponsive.”
--
Twenty minutes later and after a jarring landing, they’d arrived at a small airport in the Republic of Triydalia, at the edge of one of the country’s many jungle forests. Calling it an airport was generous - it was more of a cleared dirt path in the middle of the jungle with a shack for an airport tower, and a man that looked like more of a hunter than an air traffic controller. After a choppy conversation that required pantomiming and hand signals, Anya left with Remy and the man from the tower to fetch a tribal doctor, while Anitah and Donna assisted the other member of the cabin crew to look after Ramona. They were warned to remain as quiet as possible and to stay inside the jet.
Minutes passed by in tense observation; Anitah and Drake continued their debate in low whispers, growing louder as they defended their choices. Liam could see the pilots discussing something pointedly as they checked readings on the instrument panel and worked on calculations. One of them stepped out, claiming that he needed to stretch his legs, and walked cautiously down the runway. When he returned, the other pilot joined him outside, despite the original warning to stay inside. Liam peered out the windows and checked his watch, worrying about Anya and Remy, along with his father’s instructions to avoid delaying their return.
While the remaining guard headed towards the back of the plane to pace back and forth for the eighth time, Liam took it upon himself to speak with the pilots. The air was thick and stifling the moment he stepped outside. Around them, there was nothing but green, green, and more green from the wilderness that surrounded them, abuzz with tropical birds and insects. At his side he carried the blue attache, remembering the promise to his father that the bag wouldn’t leave his sight. He spoke in a hushed tone when he approached the pilots. “You’re doing more than just stretching your legs, aren’t you, Captain?”
Both men grimaced slightly. “Yes, Your Highness. Even if we pulled back to one end of the runway, we’re still at least five hundred feet short of clearing takeoff.”
“What if we worked to try and clear the brush on either end?” Liam offered, looking off into the distance.
“There’s no way to clear out the trees, even the young ones,” the co-captain answered. “We might be able to take off if we could drop some weight, but the larger concern is the longer we wait, we increase the risk of encountering someone who doesn’t want us here.”
Liam nodded gravely; months of civil unrest in Triydalia meant rebel groups assembled faster than the government could contain them. There was no guarantee of anyone’s safety, stranded on a remote runway. There was no telling what was wrong with Ramona while she was unconscious, and therefore no way to treat her without the aid of a doctor. Ensuring the safety of the crew and his friends could have been avoided altogether if Leo didn’t constantly opt out of handling the duties of his station. In that moment, Liam abhorred the never-ending list of responsibilities thrust at him as a result of having to pick up the slack for his brother, knowing if their roles were reversed, Leo would manage to find a way to leave Liam to solve problems on his own.
“Could you excuse me for a moment?”
He’d barely finished asking the question before walking into the tall grass by the edge of the runway. Ignoring the pilots’ calls to return, Liam sprinted into the dense greenery, dodging between vines and scanning the ground for tripwires until he could no longer see the plane over his shoulder. When he finally stopped running, he bent over, hands on his knees as he gulped in air. Liam looked down at the blue bag in his hand, wondering what on earth was so precious to reduce him to a courier.
Shaking the bag did nothing; it felt practically empty, though he could tell something was inside. He couldn’t open the bag to check, since Prime Minister Abe and his father were the only ones with keys, and PM Abe handed him the sealed bag when they parted ways. Liam wanted to throw the infernal “murse” the ladies had good-naturedly teased him for into the bushes. Perspiration dotted his hairline, and he let out a primal scream, before taking slow, deep breaths to quiet the worrisome thoughts racing in his head and bring his heartbeat down to normal.
Cursed courier bag in his right hand, Liam braced his arm against his torso, pinning it in place with his elbow when he bent his other arm up towards his face. Curling his fingers into a relaxed fist, he pressed his lips against his thumb, thick brows furrowing in thought. All around him, wild birds called to one another amidst the chittering clamor of insects hidden in the foliage. He was so busy running through scenarios in his head that he didn’t hear the quiet click of a camera, turning to look up only when he heard a branch snap in the distance.
“Watch it! You’re gonna get us busted!” Donna hissed to Drake. She pocketed her phone, elbowing Drake in the ribs as they crouched behind large leaves. She ticked her head in Liam’s direction. “Go get your boy, none of us are safe out here.”
After some coaxing, Liam headed back to the plane with Donna and Drake, walking briskly through the jungle, eyes trained to look for anything out of the ordinary. Liam was alarmed when he heard and then saw the engines running, until Drake explained the pilots were burning off fuel to lighten the plane. They’d begun to walk up the steps, when Maxwell popped out above them. “Whoo!” Maxwell exclaimed, digging for another snack from the container he cradled in his arm. “Feels like a sauna out here!”
“Lower your voice, Maxwell! Please!” Liam seethed. His features pinched together in disbelief. “Are you...eating? Now?”
“You know I stress snack,” Maxwell replied, shrugging his shoulders. He shoved another cookie into his mouth.
Liam’s eyes lit up and he took the stairs two by two, knocking on the cockpit door before swinging it open. “What if we unloaded whatever’s not bolted down? The decor, dinnerware, the food and drink?”
“That...would certainly help,” the captain replied, looking back over his shoulder. He turned to his co-pilot. “It could be enough to get in the air after burning off the excess fuel.”
“You heard the man, Maxwell,” Liam said, offering his friend a nervous grin. “Get Drake to help you start unloading the plane. Has Ramona’s status changed?”
“Donna found the first aid kit just before she took off with Drake to go after you. Anitah found some smelling salts that gave her a rude wakeup call. Turns out her insulin pump shorted and she just needed some juice.”
Several more minutes passed as the group removed whatever they could from the plane, leaving piles of cookware, food, throw pillows, and even seat cushions to lighten the load. Drake whined when they gathered up the liquor, but he stuffed a bottle of whiskey in a cabinet by his seat. They’d nearly finished when Anya and Remy returned, running on foot. “That thing better be ready to take off!” Anya hollered, motioning for everyone to board. “Rebels on our tail! Time to go!”
Everyone scrambled back onto the plane; Liam relayed the urgency to depart to the pilots, who rapidly went through their flight checklist. Remy pulled Anya up onto the steps and they all clamored to buckle into their seats, the sound of gunfire in the air as the jet rolled forward and lurched up into the air, barely clearing the canopy.
Adrenaline pumping and breaths shallow, Liam looked around at his friends and the crew, thankful they were safely in the air again.
--
Liam thought he was having a stroke at twenty-four when he saw the contents of the bag. Constantine smiled with glee at the small gold cat, one paw raised.

Pulptober 2021, Themes Elaborated, Part Three
For some bizarre reason, while Part One is currently my Top Post of the last three days, Part Two has no Likes and only two RBs, and both of them are me.
11-Hellboy/Weird Pulp Hero
This is a bit of a tricky one. I’m defining it as when Weird Fiction Pulp and Hero Pulp combine, but since there’s a lot of Weird Fiction that isn’t Pulp, it can get tricky. There’s also the added complication of the Occult Detective genre, of which there is considerable overlap (notably, as @maxwell-grant has pointed out Hellboy fits both). Still, I will take up the gauntlet and present some alternate examples, namely Atomic Robo, Tom Strong, and Solomon Kane
12-The Whisperer/Lesser Lights
Another tricky one, albeit for a different reason; this is a very loose category, basically referring to Pulp Heroes who are relatively obscure. Of course, everyone’s idea of what constitutes “obscure“ is gonna be different, which, since everyone’s idea of what constitutes a Pulp Hero is different, means it’s tricky deciding what does and does not count. My attempt at some examples: Imaro*, The Gadget Man (who’s real name is Click Rush, which is so much fun to say I have to mention it), and The Phantom Reporter
13-Domino Lady/Spicy Pulp
So, yeah, Pulp Heroes where Fanservice is part of the point. Alternate examples: Vampirella, Barbarella, and Jungle Girl. If someone could please suggest some male examples, which I know have to exist because bodice-rippers exist, that’d be helpful.
14-Zorro/Swashbuckling
Yeah, this one is relatively obvious. Granted, what exactly counts as a swashbuckler is not something I can clearly define, but we all know it when we see it. As with Weird Pulp, figuring out which Swashbucklers count as Pulp Heroes is a bit tricky, especially since several of the ones I can think of I’ve, uh, already used for other themes. But, not all, such as John Carter, Red Sonja, and her inspiration Red Sonya of Rogatino
15-Sherlock Holmes/Great Detective
Again, an obvious one, the detective who solves crimes because he’s a genius who is able to reason his way to the solution. This is another one where there are LOADS of examples, but also many that don’t count as Pulp Heroes (notably, @maxwell-grant doesn’t think the primary for this day counts!). Still, there are enough I’m comfortable with calling Pulp Heroes to list; Nick Carter (duh), Charlie Chan, and the OG example of not only this category, but detective fiction in general, C. Auguste Dupin.
*I have not consumed any source material. Note that I’m counting modern stuff as source material, as long as they’re a major character, so f’r example, The Phantom Reporter’s role as narrator of The Twelve counts.

I must ask now!! Do you have any favorite moments or episodes or things about Get Smart? I love it, it’s a fun show!
Thank you for this ask. Get Smart was one of my first fandom loves (and believe it or not, introduced me to the concept of fan fiction), and I rarely get the chance to talk about it.
Since it’s been a while since I’ve rewatched any of these, I’m just going to list a few of my favorite things as they come to me.
Agent 99. She’s smart, confident, talented, extremely cool under pressure. A strong female character who is rarely dismissed as “just a girl” but who’s never “just one of the boys” either, so she’s a surprisingly great feminine role model.
Maxwell Smart. Balances that line where he’s a complete goof and a screw-up, but you’re still willing to believe him as the hero of this ridiculous spy story. (Now that I think of it, maybe this is where my love of Eleventh-Doctor-type idiot geniuses began. Max is no genius, but he’s surprisingly close to the this archetype at times).
Agent 13. How many ridiculous places can they hide this man? How many times can we listen to him gripe about his job? I’m delighted to say that the answer is Very Many.
Siegfried! It’s so weird that he’s only in a handful of episodes, because he makes such a big impact in the ones that he’s in. Truly the perfect foil to Max, with the same dedication to his job that sometimes leads him to over-the-top silliness.
How have I gotten this far down the list without mentioning the Chief? Truly one of the great straight men in television sitcom history. Can anyone rival him for the ability to say completely ridiculous spy jargon with a straight face?
The shoe phone is one of the all-time great spy gadgets. It deserves respect for being the first “cell phone” in television history, but also, it’s just such a great visual. It just looks so cool. I don’t care how impractical it is. I want one so badly.
The Cone of Silence! Another of the great spy gadgets! Always hilarious when it shows up.
Now for episodes. My top favorite is “A Spy for a Spy”. First appearance of Siegfried, and delightful for the way the story so nimbly escalates to ridiculous proportions. Also the source of some of my favorite jokes.
Close second is the “Man Called Smart” three-parter. It’s a pity this didn’t get made into the Get Smart movie it was supposed to be. A surprisingly solid plot with so many amazing moments. (That scene of Max trying to field calls from three different airport telephones at once is a classic).
I also adore the Coronia episodes. I’m a sucker for fictional royalty, and I  adore impersonation stories. The first episode with this premise is great, "To Sire With Love” is one of my favorites in the series. I love how it takes the usual premise of “the doppelganger falls in love with the king’s intended” by flipping the premise on its head. “Max pretending to be the king pretending to flirt with his own wife” has a surprising amount of dramatic tension for such a silly premise. And I haven’t even started talking about that final sword fight! It’s such a great example of a swashbuckling adventure scene that it’s barely even parody. (”He who fights and runs away shall live to fight another day.” That is just a straight-up fantastic villain line!)
The baby episodes! “The couple’s first babies are an unexpected set of boy and girl twins” is a trope I usually hate, but it’s used for a great joke here, so I’ll forgive it. Simon the Likable is such an amazing concept for a villain that I’ve stolen it for superhero stories. And 99′s mother! I have no clue how she and a guy who looks like Simon the Likable managed to produce a willowy, dark-haired daughter, but I don’t care about the genetics. She’s such a wonderful character; that punch she throws is one of the all-time great Get Smart moments.
I need to talk about the pilot. Picture this: I’d never heard of this show before. I was flipping through the channels, come upon what looks like a black-and-white spy movie. After confusion with the password, Max finally identifies Agent 99. After Max spends several minutes talking with this ultra-feminine woman, 99 takes off her hat to reveal chin-length hair. “You’re a girl!” Max shouts in surprise. “What is this?” I demand of my TV. I’d never seen a show place such a silly concept so seriously before, so the twist into parody threw me for a wonderful loop. A few days later, I’m talking to my friend about this weird show I saw, and she’s like, “I saw the same thing,” and we eventually identify the series that we both independently became fans of. I don’t remember the plot of the pilot anymore, but that moment (and: “New York Mets Win Double Header” “Are you 99?” “No, I’m six-and-a-half”) forever live in my brain rent-free.
I can’t finish this list without talking about the Sunbeam Tiger from the opening credits. That is such a cool car. I can’t understand why they changed it after Season 2.

‘It’s Actually Helped Me’-Glenn Maxwell Says Marriage With Vini Raman Helped in IPL 2022 Preparations
Swashbuckling Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Glenn Maxwell feels that having great backing from players and support staff apart from fixed role clarity helped him do well in IPL 2021.  Before the start of the tournament last year, Maxwell was picked by Bangalore in the auction and justified the deal by scoring 513 runs in 15 matches at an average of 42.75 and strike-rate of 144.10.
