Hey this is the lightsaber lore from season 1 of Star Wars Visions!!
The idea that young kyber crystals don’t really have color yet and instead connect and grow with their wielder? It’s so cool, and it really reflects the uncertainty Luke is going through right now.

I think my favorite lore piece from this episode is that the lightsabers adjust in color, length, and transparency depending on one's connection to the Force. I really like that Kara's is originally opaque seafoam and by the end of the episode, it is an almost-solid green color.

Visions 5: The Ninth Jedi (Subbed)
Production I.G. made this one then!  Gotta look them up
Oooooh this is the first one to mimic the opening scroll with a narrator like TCW did!!!!!
I love it!!!!
Okay the animation is already SUPER fun we stan 11/10
Well this message sent to them doesn’t sound like a trap or a power-hungry leader’s plan at ALL xD
oh PRETTY lady
Ngl this sounds like the beginning of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory right before someone got fed to squirrels except I feel this time none of the Jedi even deserve it
Liking the Rey parallels with this girl, even with the musical theme
Oh shit that saber she has is practically invisible
Nooooo don’t kill her dad!
Aw dammit they’re gonna xD
Okay also getting big Jyn vibes with this one, given, you know, the obvious lol
Oh THAT is a pretty saber hilt they showed just now
ok so our girl Kara’s a badass and we stan her, she and Sabine would get along after both kicking ass on frozen lakes
oh SHIT THEY’RE SITH
OHHHH THAT’S A GOOD TWIST I DIDN’T SEE THAT
I still have zero clue what side the old dude is on
oh so he IS a good guy? whoop sorry old dude, damn their writing was GOOD, these don’t always catch me like that
oh i LIKE this ending!  It’s like setting up for a new beginning!
THEY WERE INSIDE A GIANT LIGHTSABER FUCKING YOOOOOOO THAT’S SO TOTALLY SICK
Again, I loved this one!  It’s almost completely impossible to compare them since they’re all so very different, but aaaaaa just.  They’re just.  So good ;_;  Also cannot wait to listen to all the English dubs because so far each time I’ve checked the VA list I’ve been 👀👀👀

wait hang on i really like this view of the force... like what the blacksmith is saying about people developing their connection to it and therefore being able to wield things like lightsabers kind of removes that bioessentialist element that the introduction of midichlorians demands! it really holds true to the idea that the force is in all living things, as he also emphasizes, and kinda defies the “must be [x] midichlorian to jedi” sentiment of the films. i really like it

Star Wars: Visions - The Ninth Jedi / 九人目のジェダイ
from Production I.G., dir. Kenji Kamiyama 神山健治
The Ninth Jedi began as two separate shorts. One was to be set in a time when Jedi have fallen into legend and need to come back as darkness threatens the galaxy, with the daughter of a lightsabersmith seeking out the Jedi and delivering their weapons. The other story was to be told from the point of view of eight warriors coming together, learning if they are indeed Force sensitive and can trust each other. Ultimately, the decision was made to combine the stories in order to achieve something on a grander scale.

[Star wars visions spoiler ahead!]
Okay so, i wasn't feeling uptown so i skipped episode 3 and 4 and landed on Studio I.G's The Ninth Jedi instead.
And i'm feeling so fucking much. Three minutes of silence for me and my five emotions that are currently all on fire.
The art doesn't hold much of a candle to... well. It's your basic anime. And when you open a season with the sucker punch that is The Duel it's really hard to live up to the bang.
BUT.
The story is so fucking inspired. You take one look at the narrative and the amount of love these people hold for the franchise almost chokes you up, it's beautiful. The warmth of all the effort and care that has gone into it just goes right to the center of your peasant heart.
The parallels are gorgeous, this is a story that's written in such an unassuming and effortless fashion, it's not here for blitz and fireworks; and yet it's so intentional and delicately written, purposeful.
I really want to take TNJ and show it to every creator who doesn't have an idea how to reinvent and retell a story while keeping its integrity and honoring its message (i'm looking at you, sequels directors.) The Ninth Jedi is the story of Anakin, Leia And Luke Skywalker, you'd be hard pressed to miss that, the essence is there all the same, and yet it's done from such creative and different angle that you're simultaneously experiencing an entirely new fairytale and a well familiar one, it doesn't feel tired, it doesn't feel overdone and the story is not tripping on its own foot trying to "gotcha!" you.
And it celebrates the best of each of these characters, had they been born and grown into love instead of neglect, hatred, or war. Kara is what every girl loved in Leia; courage, skill and intention. Ethan is what made Luke deeply human and deeply lovable: young curiosity bordering on naivety, and effort in spite of everything.
And Margrave Juro is a masterpiece of a narrative around the kind of Jedi Anakin would grow to be, restoring balance to the world, injecting it with life, power and foresight.
I'm in mad love with this episode. There are so many small details about it that i just want to keep talking about forever; how beautifully authentic Ethan's eyeshape is to Mark Hamill despite the simplified anime style, the juxtaposition of sith lords showing up in sheep's clothing vs Margrave's black robes and red eyes (the black robes really bring the skywalkerism dont they), the way Kara is the bringer of hope, the fucking shape of the planetary station, Margrave's left eye scar (thank you studio ig for my life), THE HAUNTING SOUNDTRACK ASKGDJGKFS STUDIO I.G. REALLY UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT!!!

Although some of the cgi animation took me out at times, this would have made a fantastic pilot episode for a full anime! I think this episode demonstrates the best of what could come from a Star Wars anime.
Despite being only 24 minutes long, this short felt like a 45-minute pilot introducing a fascinating take on the journey to rebuilding the Jedi Order in a heavily Sith-Ruled galaxy. It does a great job balancing the mystic aspects of the force while staying grounded in its story.

SW visions: My ranking + misc thoughts
1- The 9th Jedi
The one with the best pacing, an entire oda to lightsabers, full with symbolism and small changes about how the force works but they make a good narrative, nice small twists, the whole story reaches its narrative summit and leaves you fulfilled but ready for more.
Tumblr media
2- Akakiri
An unique art style, fast but good pacing, an exploration of attachment, fate and temptation, a tribute to ROTS. I would have liked it more if they developed the main duo more, the supporting cast was good, had their time to shine, the villain had an interesting design and the BG music was a banger.
Tumblr media
3- The elder
I love Master/Padawan stories with good banter, the pair feels like they have been together for a while/know each other. Good pacing and the story has a full filling ending, the relationship between the 2 of them is explored and we even get some character development.
Tumblr media
4- The village bride
I like the worldbuilding, but the pacing is slow. The side characters, the couple stole the show and the MC has little presence (aside from being beautiful) which hinders this story, they could have explored her relationship with her mentor and her former Master more.
Tumblr media
Animation mention: The twins
Trigger delivers, everything was epic and stylized AF but the plot and the pacing (the dialogue messiness would make Lucas'proud)
Tumblr media
Not my cup of tea: Lop and Ocho, TOB1, Tatooine rhapsody, The duel.
