Well it's time to go over this 2024 Ariabl'eyeS album, Moonlight Witch Safira. Once again we have the now standard lineup of Luna, Ruru and Risa Yuzuki, with Suzuha Yumi doing background choruses.

Pretty cool album. The dual vocal song nageki no l'adieu is pretty great but surprisingly not my favorite this time around, instead it's both of Luna's solo songs, particularly kibou he youranka. The speed-change halfway into it surprised me the first time and still hypes me up every time I hear it. You can bet I go all out when this plays on my car. As for the story, well it's hard to tell where it's going at the moment. So far it's giving Vampire Bride vibes, what with two besties(🗿) being separated due to their inhumanity, but who knows how it will play out. I think there's still a lot of info missing.

Kajiura Yuki is the biggest name in the anime OST world, not only does she composed opening song for Gundam Mobile suite, but for Tsubasa Chronicle, Pandora Hearts, Noir, Madlax, PMMM, Sword art online, Demon Slayer, Fates Stay Night, Black Butler, Kara no Kyokai, le Portrait de la petite Cosette etc. She is a giant. 

Sound Horizon is particular though cause Revo’s popularity exploded when he got to compose the soundrack for Attack on Titan. He already made the OST for bravely Default (check the banger that is Serpent eating the ground) and his got the artist for Bravely Default to have illustrated all of his doujin album for Sound Horizon, from Chronicle 2nd to Nein (and he is working on a new one right now) but his got a good collaboration in his original : Shimotsuki Haruka, Remi, the trio of Kalafina, YUKI, Aramary (though she stopped collaborating after some time but reapparead in a collab with Imperial Circus Dead Decadance), Jimang etc. But still, Revo and Sound Horizon are the most popular doujin circles doing original, not couting Ali PROJECT because ALI PROJECT is even more of a giant in terms of Opening music, same with Yousei Teikoku even though Shirai’s got some composition with Unlucky Morpheus. Next you have Rokugen Alice famous for singing Opening for video games, Akise Haru’s character song in Mirai Nikki, and the rest is far more popular thanks to either Vocaloid song cover like Hanatan or Touhou arrange like East New Sound or Akatsuki Records. There are other good though, Ayutrica/Eclipseed, Hatsuki Yura, Ariabl’s Eyes, Lostfairy, Seraph, Emiru3, Suzuha Yumi (she has the kajiura vibes) Love Solfege being a giant of video games OP and ED, Chibicco folk etc.

On a sidenote, Jill, a popular japanese violonist who plays for Rose Noir, Unlucky Morpheus, Lostfairy and Hollow Mellow got to play the remix version of FEH heroes Lonely Puppeteer

Well the new crossfade is out, Moonlight Witch Safira, Act 1. Quite unusually for the band we got what seems to be a human (werewolf???) male featured in the album art, albeit with no face. What is quite usual is that it says Act 1 so it’s probably a two-parter, or perhaps the first three parter for the band?? Who knows.

Also the last song in the album is called never ending nightmare which reminds me of the pokemon z-move, but looking at bulbapedia it seems the jp name is quite different so they actually don’t share the name in jp lol

Anyway, it sounds pretty cool, Risa Yuzuki is back as guest vocals in this one along with Luna and Ruru, and we still have Suzuha Yumi doing the choruses. I for one am glad Risa Yuzuki still finds time to record with the band, she’s a delight, and Ruru has been nothing but a joy ever since she joined. Overall really looking forward to this one. Read below the cut if you want a small rant on an inconsequential topic.

Onto another topic that’s mildly bothered me for a while is I will simply not comment on it anymore when Rena is absent. Obviously you’re free to use the internet however you want but when I see replies to their tweets or videos expressing disappointment at the lack of Rena I think that, while probably very encouraging for her, it’s probably a bit disappointing for the other members to constantly live in her shadow.

Rena was present in the album prior to this one so it’s not like we haven’t heard of her in ages. If she can’t find the time or doesn’t have the health then I’d rather she focus on her own life you know, I don’t want to guilt her into coming back or making the band feel like we care about her more or something.

But who knows, maybe they don’t even mind those comments and I’m the only one taking it seriously 🤷‍♂️ hard to tell for me lol.

Look what just came in the mail, the 2022 Ariabl’eyeS album that officially has a translated title right there in the album cover, perhaps the only freebie in this otherwise incomprehensible mess. This album features not only a triumphant return for Rena on the vocals (albeit in only one track, but hey I’ll take what I can get) but we also get our new honorary member Risa Yuzuki for her second album in a row, not to mention some background chorus vocals by Suzuha Yumi, narration by the ever elusive Char as usual and of course our always beloved Luna singing on nearly all the tracks. As indicated by the title this album will probably be a two-parter, though if you ask me the ending works pretty well for me as it is (let’s be real this is Ariabl’eyeS here, they’re not exactly getting a happy ending either way).

More importantly: Given that their previous album was nearly named Morbius and this one is about a vampire, it’s safe to say that this band is Morbhead-Approved, so make sure to play this album whenever it’s morbin’ time. Lyrics down below and see you all next time.

A long, long time ago, there was an elderly king and a beautiful young princess. One day the king invited many younglings to a banquet in his castle. It was rumored that if the princess handed you her shiny apple and you ate it, you'd be bound to be together for life. By the end of the banquet, she had indeed chosen one such person. This is the tale of those two, a sad and painful tale.

His exhausted body lays cold. He doesn't respond at all. While crying, she once again held him tightly. She rushed out with no direction but with only one goal set in her mind: To save him.

Just for context for the 4th song, the back of the album  (shown above) shows (ostensibly) the guy sitting next to her when she's sleeping, isn’t that cute? Or incredibly creepy? You be the judge. Also looked up the album on twitter and man, does it feel validating to see jp people saying they don't quite get it or that they have trouble telling whose perspective is on. My siblings in Christ you literally know the language, what hope is there left for me 😩. I've had the perspectives complaint since the literal first album I translated lol. Still, in the end I was able to piece together a somewhat working narrative, for once the narration bits actually helped me rather than simply driving me insane, you can be sure that at least the postlude is pretty accurate: shit is fucked and she will try to un-fuck it in the next part.

Anyway, now that I listen to this more calmly, 残香 is really the standout track for me. The whole waiting bit goes on for a bit too long like girl, just get over him and move on to the next guy, that guy is not coming home to sleep with you. And yet Luna’s delivery just pierces straight into my heart as usual, god bless her soul, really, really beautiful track carried by her delivery and the amazing instrumental. Anyway, I’ll be waiting for the next one, see you all then.
