The Suwannee Belle is a riverboat constructed in 1985 in Wisconsin by the Lacrosse Riverboat Company. It operated in New York, Alabama, and finally Florida where it offered dinner cruises. It ran aground in 1988 and was officially decommissioned in 1991. It sat in dry storage in New Jersey until being purchased by an investor for $1 in 2003. The boat was moved to Pennsylvania with the intention of dressing it up in a rainforest theme and operating as a restaurant called the Towne Crier Cafe in a small artificial pool. But the scheme went bankrupt before taking off, leaving the Suwannee Belle simply abandoned sitting in a small ditch. It was sold at auction in 2005, and it's current ownership is unknown. In 2006, Connie & Charles Gallagher bought a bar next to the Suwannee Belle and named it the Riverboat Saloon in honor of the boat that had already been left next door. The saloon's website went offline in 2015. A Yelp review from 2018 claimed the saloon was closed, with new ownership planning to reopen later that year. Today, the saloon has an active Facebook page and does seem to be open, though you might think otherwise based upon the state of the signs advertising it and the general appearance of the building. The boat itself has deteriorated seriously in the past few years. The image attributed to Tatyana Jula is from 2010 and shows how much better the boat looked at the time.
Also. All bubble blowin' babies will be beaten senseless by every able-bodied patron in the bar.

Have you read...
State Road 177 runs along the Suwannee River, between Fargo, Georgia, and the Okefenokee Swamp. Drive that route from east to west, and you’ll cross six bridges. Take it from west to east, and you might find seven. But you’d better hope not. Titus and Melanie Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car... When, much later, a tow-truck arrives, the driver finds Titus lying in the middle of the road, but Melanie is nowhere to be found.

FEATHERS IN THEIR CAPS
BY DAN LIEBMAN
Much was written this spring about the 50-year anniversary of the 1957 Kentucky Derby, which many believe featured the greatest field to ever contest the Run for the Roses.
With Bold Ruler, Gallant Man, Round Table, and Iron Liege, it is easy to see why. Back in the day, the top fillies in the land all ran against each other, too. And, it is also the 50-year anniversary of just such a race-the 1957 Delaware Handicap.
What makes the field of 19 fillies and mares that went postward at Delaware Park June 29, 1957 (before a crowd of 22,679), so special is not just that it contained outstanding runners,
but that it contained just as many future outstanding producers.
Many of the distaffers from that stellar field are household names to those old enough to remember them on the track, and their names and those of their progeny are equally as recognizable to persons familiar with pedigrees and sale catalogs.
At the finish of the '57 Del Cap, Princess Turia beats Pucker Up, with Little Pache third and Rare Treat fourth
It is not surprising the 1 1/4-mile race attracted the runners it did, considering it was the richest race of the year for fillies and mares, up a six-length advantage after six furlongs in 1:11, but Princess Turia and jockey Bill Hartack were hot on her heels, having closed carrying a gross purse of $164,625.
There were 12 betting interests including a seven-horse mutuel field, with slight favoritism ($3.70) going to Ada L. Rice's Pucker Up, who was coming off a win in an overnight handicap at Hollywood Park. Pucker Up was favored despite never having previously run farther than 1 1/6 miles.
The field included Princess Turia and Bayou, who had won Delaware Park's two other top races for females, the New Castle Stakes and Delaware Oaks, respectively. Princess Turia and her Calumet Farm stablemate Amoret were the $3.90-1 second choice.
Pucker Up, under Bill Shoemaker, made an easy lead after disposing of Happy Princess in the first turn. Pucker Up had opened up a 6 length advantage after 6 furlongs in 1:11, but Princess Turia with Bill Hartack were on her heels, having closed to within a half length at the eighth pole. Pucker Up would not go down easily, but Hartack urged Princess Turia on for a well-fought half length score. Longshot Little Pache ran third, finishing a neck ahead of Rare Treat, who closed from well back.
Interestingly, in the report of the race in The Blood-Horse, 4- year-old Princess Turia's trainer, H.A. "Jimmy" Jones, recounted how he did not think highly of the daughter of Heliopolis--Blue Delight, by Blue Larkspur, as a young horse.
"We used to go down to the farm every couple of weeks or so to get acquainted with the yearlings, make notes on them," Jones said. "looked at this filly, thought she was a cripple, never would be sound, she toed in so badly in front.
That filly that toed in so badly was one of the best of her generation. Though she didn't win a championship, at 3 Princess Turia won the Kentucky 0aks, Black-Eyed Susan, Acorn, and Cleopatra Handicap, finished second in the Coaching Club American Oaks and Oaks Prep, and ran third in the Delaware Oaks and Jersey Belle Stakes.
On The Bood-Horse Handicap, she was assigned 117 pounds, two fewer than champion Doubledogdare.
By the time their racing careers were over, this group of 19 fllies and mares would contain three champions (Pucker Up, Nasrina, and Bayou), and 17 would forever be known as stakes winners. The other two were both stakes-placed multiple times.
THE FIELD...AS RUNNERS
• Pucker Up-A winner of half of her 32 1lifetime starts, she was the champion older mare in 1957 when she won the $100,000 Washington Park Handicap as well as the Beldame and Arlington Matron. She finished second in the Spinster, Milady, and Delaware Handicap and ran third in the Columbiana and Suwannee River.
• Nasrina She won two stakes as a juvenile in 1955, enough to earn her championship honors. Those two races, the Frizette and Gardenia, would be her only stakes victories in 36 starts.
•Bayou The same year Pucker Up was the champion older mare, Bayou was champion 3-year-old filly, She made 17 starts as a 3-year-old, winning the Acorn, Gazelle, Maskette, and Delaware Oaks
• Rare Treat-Five-time stakes winner over three seasons, her scores included the Vineland and Ladies Handicaps,
• Levee She won the Selima Stakes at 2 and the following season took the Coaching Club American Oaks, Beldame Handicap, and Monmouth Oaks.
• Happy Princess--though she faded to finish last in the Delaware Handicap, she won five stakes, including the Regret and consecutive runnings of the Distaff Handicap.
One clear testament to the quality of this group is the number of its members that have races named after them: Pucker Up (run at Arlington), Bayou Breeders' Cup (Fair Grounds), Floral Park (at Belmont), and Rare Treat (discontinued, formerly run at Aqueduct).
Remembering that this was in the 1950s, when purses were obviously considerably lower than today it should be noted that 12 of the Phillies and mayors earned more than $100,000, led by five time stakes winner Dotted Line $324,159, part of debt earned by defeating males in the division of the 1959 Man o’ War Handicap. Collectively, they earned $2,800,234 on the racetrack.
FIELD…..AS PRODUCERS
It is hard to know where to start, because this group, as accomplished as it was on the racetrack, was more impressive in the breeding shed. Some of the finest female families still seen on catalog pages today descend from these mares.
While the aforementioned Derby runners, Bold Ruler, Gallant Man, and Round Table, all were later enshrined in the Hall of Fame, none of the 19 runners in the '57 Del Cap received the same honor. But consider these startling facts: Of the 19 members of this field, 14 went on to produce at least one stakes winner, four became the dams of champions, and two are forever known for producing Derby winners (one Kentucky, one Epsom).
Think of all the mares over the years that never threw a stakes winner and then contemplate that 74% of the runners in this one race became the dams of stakes winners, and 21% produced a champion. Three members of the field are also themselves out of champions, and two have champion granddams.
The obvious place to begin is with the four dams of champions, but Princess Turia did win the race, so in this case, first to the wire also earns the right to be first to be discussed.
* There are many fine Calumet Farm families, one of them certainly including Princess Turia, Her dam is six time stakes winner Blue Delight (by Blue Larkspur), who in turn produced two-time champion Real Delight (Bull Lea), This is the family of champions Our Mims (Herbager) and Christmas Past (Grey Dawn Il) as well as Triple Crown runne-up Alydar (Raise a Native). Princess Turia, who won the Kentucky Oaks when it was considered a classic, did produce a classic winner in 1968 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner and champion Forward Pass.
* Champion Bayou (Hill Prince) is the dam of Alluvial (Buckpasser), who in turn is the dam of champion Slew o' Gold (Seattle Slew) and Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Coastal (Majestic Prince), and granddam of gradel winners Aptitude (A.P. Indy) and Sleep Easy (Seattle Slew). Bayou is also the granddam of grade I winner Slew's Exceller (Exceller) and fourth dam of grade I winners River Flyer (Riverman) and Victory Ride (Seeking the Gold). This is the family of such well-known names as five-time stakes producer Delta (Nasrullah), Broodmare of the Year Levee (Hill Prince) and her two-time champion Shuvee (Nashua), champion Sacahuista (Raja Baba), champion Talking Picture (Speak John) and her champion offspring Easy to Copy and Trusted Partner (both by Affirmed), and champion Smart Deb (Dedicate). Levee, of course, was also in the field.
• This year's Kentucky Oaks (gr.) and Belmont winner Rags to Riches is from the family of Stolen Hour (Mr. Busher), who is out of champion Late Date (Hourless). Stolen Hour is the dam of Broodmare of the Year Best in Show (Traffic Judge), who produced Irish champion Malinowski and Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, she the granddam of Rags to Riches and Bel- mont Stakes winner Jazil. Blush With Pride's half-sister, Mon- roe, is the dam of European champion Xaar. This is the family of, among others, champions El Gran Senor, Try My Best, and Chimes of Freedom.
• Out of stakes winner Rare Perfume (Eight Thirty), Rare Treat is a half-sister to champion and Belmont Stakes winner Jaipur (Nasrullah). Rare Treat is the dam of champion What a Treat (Tudor Minstrel), who is the dam of group winner and leading English sire Be My Guest (Northern Dancer) and granddam of grade I winner Ida Delia (Graustark). Rare Treat is also the dam of Exotic Treat (Vaguely Noble), who produced English and Irish champion and Epsom Derby (Eng) winner Golden Fleece (Nijinsky II).
• Floral Park (Alibhai) is from one of the top Darby Dan Farm families, being a full sister to Delaware Handicap winner Flower Bowl, who produced two-time champion Bowl of Flowers (Sailor) and the stakes-winning full brothers and top sires Graustark and His Majesty (Ribot). This is the family of three-time champion Gallant Bloom (Gallant Man), and Kentucky Derby/Preakness winner Majestic Prince and his full brother, champion Crowned Prince (Raise a Native). Floral Park did not produce a stakes win ner, but much black type descends from her daughters, includíng grade I winner Rootentootenwooten (Diesis), Italían champion Prorutori (Providential), and grade II winner Ivanavinalot (West Acre).
• Amoret (Bull Lea) is another from a top female family. Her first two dams, Mar-Kell (Blenheim II) and Nellie Flag (American Flag), are both champions. This is the family of three-tíme Horse of the Year Forego (Forli), champion and Kentucky Derby/Belmont Stakes winner Bold Forbes (Irish Castle), Kentucky Oaks winner Nellie L. (Blenheim II), and grade I winners Life At the Top (Seattle Slew) and Saratoga Six (Alydar). Amoret produced Florida Derby winner Eastern Fleet (Fleet Nasrullah) and stakes winner Another Love (Tudor Minstrel). Another Love is the dam of stakes winner Rulers Mistress (Bold Ruler), who in turn produced Japanese group I winner Shadai Sophia (Northern Taste). Interestingly, another of Amoret's daughters, Brazen (a full sister to Rulers Mistress), is the third dam of Japanese champion Vega
(Tony Bin).
• Attica (Mr. Trouble) produced only one stakes winner, but that was Sir Ivor (Sir Gaylord), who won the Epsom Derby, was Horse of the Year in England, a champion in Ireland, and later a top sire and broodmare sire. This is the family of Test, Alabama, and Monmouth 0aks winner Firm Policy (Princequillo) as well as Hollywood Gold Cup winner Pleasure Seeker (Ambiorix) and San Felipe winner Raise a Man (Raise a Native).
THE FIELD...IN RETROSPECT
When fillies and mares run against each other, we can easily gauge their accomplishmnents on the racetrack. That all but two members of this 19 member field were stakes winners and three were champions is all that needs to be said in that regard. It takes considerably more time to gauge success not just as a broodmare but as one who influences the breed. It could be
through a mare's daughters or granddaughters; it could be as the dam or granddam of a great sire.
This group brought great thrills when racing, but today, 50 years after the Delaware Handicap of 1957, it is for their exploits in the breeding shed that they are most often remembered. O

Although composted Stephen C Foster never laid eyes on the Suwannee River, he’s creditors for popularizing the River in the American consciousness through his famous 1851 song ‘Old Folks at Home.’
.
The Florida government made it the official state song in 1935, replacing ‘Florida, My Florida,’ even though Foster himself never visited the state and that his brother picked the name Suwannee from an atlas.
.
The idea for a Foster memorial on the river’s banks stemmed from a diorama located in the aflorida pavilion of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. The 1,800 acre parkland was set aside in 1931.
.
A museum honoring Foster and the antebellum south was added to the park in 1947, and a 97-bell carrion tower in 1957.
.
Recent years have seen ‘Old Folks at Home’ come under fire for its racist and white supremacist lyrics, with some governors opting to replace the song at their inaugurations.
.
I didn’t intend on visiting the park this day, it just happened to work out! #floridastateparks

The Toll
The Toll by Cherie Priest
From Cherie Priest, the author of The Family Plot and Maplecroft, comes The Toll, a tense, dark, and scary treat for modern fans of the traditionally strange and macabre. State Road 177 runs along the Suwannee River, between Fargo, Georgia, and the Okefenokee Swamp. Drive that route from east to west, and you’ll cross six bridges. Take it from west to east, and you might find seven. But you’d better hope not. Titus and Davina Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car . . . When, much later, a tow-truck arrives, the driver finds Titus lying in the middle of the road, but Davina is nowhere to be found.

10 Nebraska Restaurants That Will Blow The Taste Buds Out Of Your Mouth
Lincoln, the state capital of Nebraska, is home to a variety of cultural spots, from jazz clubs to innovative art galleries, as well as over 100 restaurants in the historic Haymarket District. We pick ten of the best spots to enjoy local and international specialties.
1. The Boiler Room
After coming here, every time you hear “boiler room,” you’ll think of seared pork belly literally melting in your mouth. Chef Paul Kulik has worked hard to create a unique menu that translates more into a work of art in execution. With local food purveyors always on the hunt to source the freshest ingredients from around the area, there isn’t a bad meal to be had here.
2. Stella’s
There’s no shortage of people or places who know how to cook up some beef in Nebraska, but when you’re looking for one of the best burgers of your life, then you should leave it to Stella’s.
Considering that they’ve serving them up for over 80 years, it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing. Where else can you add peanut butter to your burger? And before you scowl at the peanut butter topping, trust me–try it first, and thank me later.
3. Banhwich Café
Even if you’re a die-hard, meat-and-potatoes kind of Nebraskan, the banh mi sandwiches and Korean bulgolgi at Banhwich Café will plant some exotic flavor cravings that will keep you coming back, no matter how far the drive. Definitely don’t miss out on the Grill Beef Banh Mi with Fried Eggs, but the best kept secret on the menu is the green waffles.
4. Sebastian’s Table
Sebastian’s Table might be relatively new to Lincoln, but in the short time that they’ve been around, they’ve managed to create quite an impact. Their Spanish tapas let you try a little bit of everything that you love and their sangrias are enough to make you remember why you came out in the first place. It will also make you want to come back every night this week.
5. Suwannee
If you haven’t had any luck getting your hands on any decent Thai, head to Suwannee. Everything is fresh and made to order, which means no soggy noodles swimming in MSG-laden sauces.
Order the Pad Thai or the Chicken Satay with peanut sauce for dipping. You’ll begin to rethink every Thai meal you’ve had since and feel a little ripped off, but moving forward you can rest easy that you always have this treasure in your pocket.
6. Honest Abe’s Burgers & Freedom
Honest Abe’s Burgers And Freedom is committed to producing good food for good people. They believe in supporting the community by keeping it local and staying true to their roots.
So when you’re looking for a truly great burger that is infinitely more than what you get at a fast food joint but is still takes half the time and price of a fancy grill, then Honest Abe’s is the way to go. Honestly.
7. Tacos Las Palmas
When nothing but tacos will make you happy (we’ve all been there), drive right past that Taco Bell, and get yourself to Grand Island. Las Palmas has some of the best Mexican you can find in all of Nebraska.
It goes without saying that the tacos are sublime, but do yourself a favor and order up the wet chicken burrito. There are also vegetarian options available, ensuring that there’s something to please everyone at this little haven.
8. M’s Pub
M’s is one of those special, grounded places that’s been around near to forever. The service is friendly and the company is loyal. That’s because everything you order here is consistently good.
They have some of the best salads you’ll find in Nebraska, a surprisingly awesome carrot dog, and excellent tuna sliders. And the extensive wine list alone makes it worth the trip.
9. The Grey Plume
If something a little more than casual dining is in order this weekend, get yourself all fancied up and take a shot with The Grey Plume. You’ll hit the target every time.
The food is creative and unique in ways that reviews can’t seem to do justice. If that sounds like hyperbole, just let that first bite of their special dessert of a donut in duck fat with maple pork belly and pumpkin ice cream sink in for a minute.
10. Korean Grill
There are so many great options at the Korean Grill, your biggest problem will be making a decision on what to order. The good news about Korean food is that it always makes the best leftovers, so you let your eyes do the ordering for you and it definitely won’t go to waste.
Even though the noodle dishes are worth every bite, don’t miss out on the ribs. The sweet and savory meat falls off the bone.

Thousands Evacuated as Subtropical Storm Alberto Fast Approaches Florida
Subtropical Storm Alberto is making its way to the Florida Panhandle. (AP)
Thousands of residents evacuated homes on Sunday as subtropical Storm Alberto is expected to slam into the Florida Panhandle about mid-afternoon Monday.
Heading north through the Gulf of Mexico, the storm is expected to wallop parts of the southeastern United States with drenching rains, blasting winds and possible tornadoes, officials said.
“It’s maintained its strength and wind speeds overnight, and it looks like it’s headed for landfall at Panama City, (Florida),” said David Roth, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.
“It’ll probably hit land either mid or late afternoon,” he said. “It has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, which is about 10 miles shy of being a hurricane. This is definitely a dangerous storm.”
Forecasters said it could bring life-threatening inundation to Southern coastal states.
Lifeguards posted red flags along the white sands of Pensacola Beach, where swimming and wading were banned amid high surf and dangerous conditions.
The National Hurricane Center said a tropical storm warning was in effect from the Suwannee River in Florida to the Mississippi-Alabama state line.
Alberto, the first named Atlantic storm of 2018, which spun up days before the formal June 1 start of the hurricane season.
Alberto was expected to drop as much as 12 inches (30 cm) of rain, slamming an area from Mississippi to western Georgia, the Miami-based hurricane center said.
After that, it will bring powerful winds and heavy rains as it moves into the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday, the hurricane center said. The storm comes during the Memorial Day weekend and was expected to scramble transportation on Monday as many people return from holiday travel.
Alberto was also forecast to bring storm swells of about 2 to 4 feet (60-120 cm) to low-lying areas that were “likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions”.
A water spout, a dangerous vortex of wind and water, was spotted late Sunday about 7 miles off shore of Alligator Point, Florida, said Roth.
Franklin County, in the Florida Panhandle, has issued a mandatory evacuation for its barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico affecting some 4,200 housing units, while Taylor County, to the east, has a voluntary evacuation order in place for its coastal areas.
Florida Governor Rick Scott, who issued a state of emergency on Saturday in all of the state’s 67 counties, said on Sunday that the Florida National Guard had 5,500 guard members ready to be deployed if needed.
“If evacuations have been ordered in your community, do not ignore them,” Scott said on Twitter.
Governors in Alabama and Mississippi also declared states of emergency on Saturday.
There were a number of deadly hurricanes in the United States and Caribbean last year that pummeled places including Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damage, massive power outages and devastation to hundreds of thousands of structures.
Alberto’s projected storm track has shifted eastward since Friday, lessening its threat to the active oil production areas in the Gulf of Mexico. Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp have evacuated some personnel from offshore Gulf oil facilities.
A subtropical storm like Alberto has a less defined and cooler center than a tropical storm, and its strongest winds are found farther from its center. Subtropical storms can develop into tropical storms, which in turn can strengthen into hurricanes.
A separate storm system on Sunday caused flash flooding in the Baltimore suburb of Ellicott City, Maryland, turning its historic Main Street into a raging river with water reaching past the first floor of buildings and sweeping cars down the road, local news video showed.
Governor Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency for the area rebuilding from a devastating flood about two years ago that killed two people and damaged dozens of buildings.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released a hurricane season forecast Thursday that calls for 10 to 16 named storms, with five to nine hurricanes. One to four hurricanes could be "major" with sustained winds of at least 111 mph (178 kph).
If that forecast holds, it would make for a near-normal or above-normal season. An average hurricane season produces 12 named storms, of which six become hurricanes, including three major hurricanes.
"There are no strong climate signals saying it’s going to be extremely active, like last year, or extremely weak," said Gerry Bell, the lead hurricane forecaster at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.| Storm Alberto gains strength approaching northern Gulf Coast

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.| Storm Alberto gains strength approaching northern Gulf Coast
PETERSBURG, Fla. — Subtropical Storm Alberto gained the early jump on the 2018 hurricane season as it headed toward anticipated landfall sometime Monday on the northern Gulf Coast, where white sandy beaches emptied of their usual Memorial Day crowds.
Though the Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t officially start until Friday, Alberto has become the first named storm this year, throwing disarray into long holiday weekend plans up and down Florida’s Gulf Coast. And just as Memorial Day marked summer’s unofficial start in the U.S., Alberto gave it the unofficial start of what forecasters recently predicted would be an active hurricane season.
At 11 p.m. EDT Sunday, Alberto was centered about 205 miles (330 kilometers) west of Tampa and had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (100 kph) — up from 50 mph (85 kph) only hours earlier. Forecasters said Alberto has most recently taken a northwesterly course at 9 mph (15 kph) that was expected to bring it over the northern Gulf Coast in coming hours on or near the Florida Panhandle.
“On the forecast track, the center of Alberto will move over the northern Gulf of Mexico overnight and cross the northern Gulf Coast in the warning area on Monday,” the National Hurricane Center said. It warned of life-threatening surf conditions, the possibility of a few brief tornadoes in much of Florida and parts of Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama. And, it said, heavy rains are also expected in many areas.
Lifeguards posted red flags along the white sands of Pensacola Beach, where swimming and wading were banned amid high surf and dangerous conditions. Gusty showers were to begin lashing parts of Florida on Sunday, and authorities were warning of the possibility of flash flooding. The hurricane center said a tropical storm warning was in effect from the Suwannee River in Florida to the Mississippi-Alabama state line.
The storm’s approach also triggered mandatory evacuations of some small, sparsely populated Gulf Coast barrier islands in one Florida county. The Florida Division of Emergency Management said in a statement Sunday that a mandatory evacuation has been issued in Franklin County for all barrier islands there and those in the county living directly on the coast in mobile homes or in recreation vehicle parks.
A subtropical storm like Alberto has a less defined and cooler center than a tropical storm, and its strongest winds are found farther from its center. Subtropical storms can develop into tropical storms, which in turn can strengthen into hurricanes. Forecasters cautioned that heavy rain and tropical storm conditions could reach the northern Gulf Coast well ahead of the center of Alberto making landfall.
The storm prompted Florida, Alabama and Mississippi to launch emergency preparations over the weekend amid expectations Alberto would reach land sometime Monday. Rough conditions were expected to roil the seas off the eastern and northern Gulf Coast region through Tuesday.
Mark Bowen, the Bay County Emergency management director, said at a Sunday afternoon news conference that the concern isn’t with storm surge due to the timing of landfall and the tides. He said Alberto’s biggest threat will be its heavy rains, with forecasts of anywhere from four to 12 inches (10-30 centimeters) of rain in some areas.
In Taylor County, there were voluntary evacuations for those in coastal zones and beach communities, mobile homes, RV parks and low-lying areas. In Gulf County, T. H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park began evacuations Sunday morning.
In Miami, organizers called off the sea portion of the Miami Beach Air & Sea Show on Sunday because of heavy rain and rough waters. And in the Tampa Bay area on the central Gulf Coast, cities offered sandbags for homeowners worried about floods.
