Hi/Bonjour! I hope it's okay to share this here. A few months ago, Québec's government announced tax credit cuts that had significantly negative impacts on the VFX industry in Canada, especially for about 8,000 workers in Québec. I myself was laid due to this announcement, after working in the industry for 8 years. Québec and the rest of Canada is one of the biggest players in the VFX industry, it would be a shame to lose this international reputation. There's currently a petition addressed to the National Assembly of Québec and I was wondering if you could share it here? It would be really helpful to get more signatures before November 5 2024, especially from QC, ON, and BC (as mentioned in the petition). Nos. 2, 3, 4 et 5. — Globe en roses lumineuses. — Ce modèle est destiné à l'éclairage; on peut le suspendre aux arbres, dans les allées, vestibules, à une corniche, à une lampe, partout enfin où il peut produire bon effet. La taille est de moyenne proportion; cependant si on veut l'agrandir et faire grosse lanterne, rien ne sera plus facile lors de la fabrication de la carcasse, qui se fait en fil de laiton recouverte de tulle ou de mousseline raide sur toute sa surface et à l'une des extrémités — celle du bas. — Ce tulle se bâtit à grands points sur les fils de laiton. Lorsque la préparation est terminée, il faut tailler des pétales de rose sur les tailles données dans l'intérieur des dessins. Il serait bon même de grandir un peu les proportions données et les établir sur des bandes de mousseline de soie assorties.

Lorsque les bandes ont tailladées, on griffe les bandes à dents pointues; quant aux deux autres bandes, les pétales doivent être roulés, puis renversés d'un côté. Une seule bande griffée suffit par rose, mais il faut deux bandes au moins des deux autres numéros. Lorsqu'elles sont ainsi préparées, on fait un petit crochet à un fil de laiton un peu fort, on l'entre dans la marge de l'étoffe; puis, appuyant ce fil de fer entre le pouce et l'index, on tourne la première bande autour de ce doigt comme dans le premier détail; puis une partie de la bande roulée; on rapproche le majeur, et la bande vient à son tour l'envelopper et s'enrouler à la fois sur les deux doigts comme dans le deuxième détail.

L'étoffe doit être serrée du bas, aller légèrement en descendant, pour que l'épanouissement de la rose soit bien réussi. On retire ses doigts et l'on fronce en même temps le bas de ces bandes, de façon à le bien attacher autour de la tige, comme dans le troisième détail. On termine en attachant deux longs brins de laiton que l'on fixe sur le cercle en commençant par le haut. Les roses sont assez rapprochées les unes des autres pour ne pas laisser de vide et toujours en cercle. Ce travail pourra être fait par dessus un globe en verre si l'on désire l'adapter à une lampe ou bien suspendre dans l'intérieur de la carcasse une petite monture en fil de laiton, qui soutiendra un verre étroit dans lequel on mettra de l'huile et une veilleuse bien éclairante.

We remove our fingers and at the same time we france the bottom of these strips, so as to attach it well around the stem, as in the third detail. We finish by attaching two long strands of brass which we fix on the circle starting at the top. The roses are close enough to each other so as not to leave any gaps and always in a circle. This work can be done over a glass globe if you wish to adapt it to a lamp or else suspend in the interior of the carcass a small brass wire frame, which will support a narrow glass in which you will put oil and a bright night light.

Quand est-ce qu'on arrête cette comédie ?

De nouvelles recherches parviennent à la conclusion que le gaz naturel liquéfié laisse une empreinte de gaz à effet de serre de 33 % supérieure à celle du charbon, lorsque la transformation et le transport maritime sont pris en compte…

Pour en arriver à ces résultats, Robert W. Howarth, professeur à l'Université Cornell, s’est intéressé à l’ensemble du cycle de vie du GNL américain destinée à l’exportation.

▶️ C’est en prenant en compte les émissions de gaz à effet de serre à chaque étape de production (extraction, liquéfaction, transport, stockage) que l’empreinte carbone du gaz naturel devient pire que celle du charbon, selon l’étude qui a été révisée par des pairs. Et cela n’est pas sans conséquences…

Les estimations antérieures du gouvernement et de l'industrie ont supposé que le GNL est considérablement plus faible que le charbon, offrant la promesse qu'il pourrait le remplacer dans des pays comme la Chine, ainsi qu'à l'aide d'alliés européens menacés par l'invasion de l'Ukraine.

▶️ La recherche conclue que jusqu'à 3,5 % du gaz livré aux clients fuit dans l'atmosphère, beaucoup plus que ce que l'on supposait auparavant. En tant que gaz à effet de serre, le méthane est plus de 80 fois plus puissant que le dioxyde de carbone lorsqu'il est considéré sur une période de 20 ans.

▶️ Les émissions de méthane en amont et intermédiaire sont les principales sources d'émission du GNL. Les émissions totales en amont et à mi-parcours représentent en moyenne 47 % de l'empreinte totale de gaz à effet de serre du GNL. D'autres émissions importantes sont le processus de liquéfaction (8,8 % du total en moyenne) et le transport des camions-citernes (5,5 % du total). Les émissions des navires-citernes varient de 3 % à 8 % selon le type de pétrolier.

▶️ « Presque toutes les émissions de méthane se produisent en amont lorsque vous extrayez le gaz de schiste et que vous le liquéfiez », a déclaré Howarth. « Tout cela est amplifié pour mettre le gaz naturel liquéfié sur le marché. Même considéré dans les délais de 100 ans après les émissions qui sous-estiment gravement les dommages climatiques du méthane, l'empreinte de GNL est ��gale ou supérieure à celle du charbon. (…) Le GNL aura donc toujours une + grande empreinte climatique que le gaz naturel, quelles que soient les hypothèses d’être une énergie de transition »

Le document a généré une tempête politique depuis sa première publication à l'avant-projet l'année dernière, car il remet en question un principe central de l'expansion rapide de l'industrie mondiale du GNL. Le projet initial a joué un rôle critique en persuadant l'administration de Biden pour suspendre l'approbation des nouveaux terminaux d'exportation de GNL en janvier 2024.

La polémique est loin de s'arrêter, des contres études ont été dilligentées. Les conséquences de ces révélations sont littéralement vertigineuses. Sur tous les plans et où que l'on se place…
