hey! I wanna ask one thing, did you watch the highlights of the India vs Pakistan match from the 2022 t20 world cup? considering Ind vs Pak is today, star sports was showing the highlights of the 2022 T20 again. So the 2022 match, held at Melbourne, is hands down one of the biggest nailbiters in cricket history, and features a famous rescue act by Virat Kohli. He top-scored with 82 not out in a chase of 160, which enabled us to win the match by 4 wickets. And we had got off to a horror start, we were something like 40/4 at a point, and we weren't even near to the required run rate. That was when Virat and Hardik combined for a vital partnership. I remember that match crystal clear, India needed 22 from 8 balls, Haris Rauf was bowling, and Virat hit him for two successive sixes. The first of those sixes was just sublime and like, unreal, and was officially voted the ICC shot of the century. Not the year, not the decade, the whole damn century. 🤯🤯🥹🥹
So I was thinking of how this match would happen in Omegaverse, or more specifically how it would help improve public reaction to omegas playing. With Virat open and out omega, and his six being voted as the ICC shot of the century, people would be kinder to the idea of omegas in cricket, wouldn't they? Also, in my headcanon, Hardik is also an omega-- a bit like Stu, he's in hiding, pretending to be an alpha, despite VK's debut, because BCCI made it pretty loud and clear that Virat was a special case, and other omegas shouldn't expect the same privileges extended to them. So Hardik, just like Stu, is taking pills to conceal his identity and like Stu, conforming to a hyper-alpha lifestyle he doesn't subscribe to, but follows for fear of letting himself out accidentally. But Hardik has also come out as omega by the time this iconic match happens. So imagine this now: your team is in major trouble, both your openers (kl Rahul and rohit in this case), are gone, Suryakumar Yadav, the number one ranked batter in t20s has gotten out, and Axar Patel, the sole left-hander in your lineup has gotten run out in a terrible mix-up. Who's left now? Virat and Hardik. Two omegas, who despite their achievements can't seem to earn the kind of respect and awe that playing alphas do. These two omegas end up stitching together a partnership that takes us over the line against our arch-rivals in an utter humdinger. Pure cinema. 🤌🏻
Aww I really like that - and yeah Stuart isn't an exception; there's quite a few players around the world posing as alphas when they're really omegas.
The opinion of omegas will be much better come 2022, but they'll probably be an undertone of 'two omegas can't get this over the line' when it goes down to it. I don't think it's like the turning point because, as I said, omegas are much more accepted and respected by this time, but it'll definitely have positive effects

ICC T20 Rankings: Abhishek Sharma Soars to Career-Best Second Position, Surpasses Tilak
Tumblr media
India's star batsman Abhishek Sharma has made a remarkable leap in the latest ICC T20 rankings. With a stellar performance in the fifth T20 against England, where he scored a magnificent century, Abhishek has climbed 38 places to achieve his career-best second position among batsmen. His rise in the rankings has pushed Tilak down to the third spot. Meanwhile, Travis Head continues to lead the T20 batsmen rankings.
Top-10 T20 Batsmen
Travis Head tops the chart with 855 rating points, followed by Abhishek Sharma with 829 points and Tilak at third with 803 points. Phil Salt holds the fourth position with 798 points, while India's current T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, ranks fifth with 738 points. The top-10 list also includes Jos Buttler, Babar Azam, Pathum Nissanka, Mohammad Rizwan, and Kusal Perera. Due to Abhishek's rise, every player below him has dropped one position until the ninth rank.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has slipped out of the top-10, dropping three places to the 12th spot. Abhishek's explosive knock of 135 runs off 54 balls, featuring 13 sixes, played a crucial role in India's 4-1 series victory over England. He is now just 26 points behind the top-ranked Head.
T20 Bowlers' Rankings
India's Varun Chakraborty has also made significant gains among T20 bowlers. As the Player of the Series against England and the highest wicket-taker with 14 dismissals, Varun has earned a spot in the upcoming three-match ODI series. He has now jumped three places to secure a career-best joint second position in the T20 rankings, sharing 705 rating points with England's Adil Rashid. West Indies' Akil Hussain leads the rankings with 707 points, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Adam Zampa occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
India’s Ravi Bishnoi has climbed one place to sixth with 671 points. With Varun, Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh in the top-10, India boasts three bowlers in the elite list. However, Arshdeep has slipped from eighth to ninth place, while Axar Patel has dropped from 11th to 13th. Adil Rashid, who previously topped the rankings, has fallen to second place, and Jofra Archer has slipped four spots to 10th.
Test Rankings Update
Australia's recent innings-and-242-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle has resulted in notable shifts in the Test rankings. Acting captain Steve Smith has surged three places to fifth after his 35th Test century, while Usman Khawaja has moved up six spots to 11th following his career-best 232-run knock. Yashasvi Jaiswal remains fourth among Test batsmen, with England’s Joe Root retaining the top position, followed by Harry Brook and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate the Test bowling rankings despite recovering from a back spasm. Recently honored with the ICC Best Male Cricketer of the Year 2024 and Best Male Test Cricketer awards, Bumrah remains India’s highest-ranked bowler. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is the only other Indian in the top-10, occupying the ninth spot. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada has climbed to second, while Australia’s Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Pakistan’s Noman Ali complete the top five. Australia's Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc have also made gains, with Lyon moving up two places to sixth and Starc to 12th after their efforts in Galle.

[ad_1] Sanju Samson vs South Africa, 1st T20I in Durban (PC: BCCI) After the first two overs of the fourth and final T20I between India and South Africa at the Wanderers, the visiting side had progressed to 16 for no loss. At that juncture, it just seemed like any other normal T20I from the past. That is not how it exactly panned out at the completion of India’s innings, as they finished with a monstrous score of 283 for the loss of only one wicket. The eye-popping stat was India adding 210 after the Powerplay, alongside 154 in the last 10 overs and 64 in the final five.  To make it even better, in three of the four games, India accumulated scores in excess of 200. Yes, at Port Elizabeth, India could muster a total of just 124, but both batting units struggled in that match, with the pitch offering enough help for the pacers and spinners. It wasn’t much different in the three-match series against Bangladesh, where India raced to scores of 132 for 3 in a mere 11.5 overs, 221 and a whopping 297 for 6. Even in Zimbabwe, India’s highest score was a substantial 234 in the second game.  Some of the risks taken by the batters also act as an indicator of India’s ultra-aggressive template. The first delivery of the series itself witnessed Sanju Samson walked down the pitch to Marco Jansen. And it was followed by Abhishek Sharma attempting a slog across the line. Those two deliveries resulted in a solitary run, but it was a warning sign for the opposition.  Sanju went on to crack two hundreds at a blistering strike-rate of 194.59. Although Abhishek couldn’t make most of his starts, his strike-rate of 173.21 was noteworthy. Just like Sanju, Tilak Varma, the No.3 bat, also compiled two centuries at an astounding strike-rate of 198.58. Suryakumar Yadav, the new T20I skipper, and known for his 360-degree stroke-play, had a poor series. Despite his poor showing, India notched up some tall scores.  Even in the Bangladesh-India series, Sanju, Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya, Ramandeep Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy all had strike-rates in the range of 180 to 220.  With the tracks in India turning out to be mostly flat for limited-overs cricket, the fearless template could help the side defend the World T20 title in their own backyard in 2026. Moreover, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy and Arshdeep Singh in their ranks, India also have the required arsenal in their bowling to defend targets in such conditions.  Although, as always, a word of caution has to be thrown into the mix. Occasionally, when there is enough help for the bowlers, India would have to change their strategy. We saw a glimpse of that in the T20I played in Gqeberha, with India finding themselves at 5 for 2 in the second over. Leaving aside the occasional blip, India have found the right framework as they look to chart a new era in the shortest format, without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.   The post Ultra-aggressive India up the intent meter in the shortest format appeared first on Sports News Portal | Latest Sports Articles | Revsports. Tumblr media
If we look at the cricket records of both Surya Kumar Yadav and Shubhman Gill, it is clear that both the batsmen have become only 'format-specialists'. Therefore, the format specialist has said that while Surya Kumar is a master of T20, he is also the number 1 ICC ranked batsman in the format.

[ad_1] Ahead of the fifth and final T20I between India and Australia, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra said that while there is no doubt that the rising left-handed batter Rinku Singh has established himself as a contender for a spot in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad, he is still going to fight many challengers though he has put everyone under pressure. The fifth and final T20I between India and Australia will take place on Sunday. India has won this series 3-1 under the captaincy of number one ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav and the 'finisher' Rinku has been one of the biggest positives for India in the series. On JioCinema's India vs Australia - 5th T20I preview show, expert Ashish Nehra spoke of Rinku Singh's chances of breaking into the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup and the reasons why India's pace bowlers have given away so many runs. Excerpts:"There is no doubt that Rinku Singh is a contender for inclusion in India's T20 World Cup squad. But the World Cup is still far away and the spot he is fighting for has many challengers. You can look at Jitesh Sharma (the wicketkeeper batsman) and Tilak Varma. We will have to discuss the positions where Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will play. So, we have to see how many spots are available in the 15-member squad. But one thing is sure, he has opened everyone's eyes and put everyone under pressure. But there is still a lot of time to go. The trip to South Africa is coming up followed by the IPL," said Nehra. In nine T20Is so far in five innings, Rinku has scored 174 runs at an average of 87.00 and a strike rate of over 197, with the best score of 46. He has been impressive with his hitting, smashing 16 fours and 11 sixes across 88 balls faced so far. He has scored 130 runs through fours and sixes itself.Coming to the bowling side of things, Nehra said that during the series so far, bowlers from both sides have leaked a lot of runs. In this situation, pacer Mukesh Kumar has been a big positive for India with his pin-point yorkers, especially in death overs."The conditions for the first three matches were different and a lot of the bowlers have changed. Your experienced bowlers like Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been rested. If you speak of Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar, they have just been introduced to international cricket," said Nehra."And then we saw over 200 runs being scored in the first three matches. So, it is not that only the Indian bowlers leaked runs, even Australia's bowlers have given away a lot of runs. In these circumstances, Mukesh Kumar has been a big positive for India. The way he has bowled with wet balls, his execution of yorkers and bowling in the death overs has been terrific," he concluded.(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2] Source link
