#surviving the applewhites au

OOOOOH okay excuse me while I go off about a crossover inspired by one of my childhood favorite books, aka Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie Tolan.

I call this the Surviving the Spectres AU!

So, the premise is that Kanan and Hera, along with their respective siblings, Ahsoka and Zeb, run a sort-of-homeschool for their kids. Said kids are Ezra (kanera's 17-year-old adopted son), Jacen (kanera's 4-year-old biological son), and Luke and Leia (ahsoka's 17-year-old niece and nephew, who she has custody of.) They have a mostly peaceful, serene life (they do admittedly have an evil goat named chopper who likes to attack everyone, but… besides that it's very peaceful and serene!!), until.....

Enter Sabine.

Sabine is a Bad Kid. She has lots of piercings and spiky green hair and possibly a tattoo, nobody really knows for certain, and there isn't a school left in the state who will accept her.

Except, of course, for the Spectre Academy.

They take her in as kind of a lost-cause-project. She's standoffish and unpleasant at first, but gradually warms up to them--she joins Luke's ballet class (it seemed like the least exhausting PE program of the Spectre Academy... BOY, was she wrong!), helps Ezra with his Wildlife Photography project, learns from Leia how to make bouquets that are actually insults in flower language, and unintentionally makes Jacen want green hair.

And then there's this whole sideplot with a musical--in the original book it was The Sound Of Music, but I think it would be pretty fitting if it was Aladdin in this AU. Basically, the dad in the story—Kanan in this AU—is the director of a local musical in the nearest town. He’s struggling to cast the musical; there’s one character who he just can’t figure out. In the original book, it’s a side character, but in this AU, it’s the main character. And Kanan is like, “WHO COULD POSSIBLY PLAY THE MAIN CHARACTER?! I’d cast Ezra, he looks the part, but sadly he just can’t sing…” and Ezra gives Sabine this look like don’t you DARE and Sabine is like “actually :) kanan :) when ezra and i were working on the Wildlife Photography project :) we spent a lot of time wandering around in the woods :) and we sang a lot to pass the time :) so he’s pretty good now :)” and ezra is like “i hate you”

Anyway ezra ends up playing aladdin and eventually the rest of the family pitches in and it ends with them putting on the play in their barn!

Also, Yoda is there and he cooks really spicy food.

okay so here me out, surviving the applewhites but make it bell’s hells.

in this version of the story i would put ashton in the jake semple role. he is a punk who has been dealt a pretty crappy shake of things and are being treated as more of a problem than a person. i think that he’d still be an orphan and he would still crime as he is wont to do. so then jiana hexum would be his parole officer and fulfill the role of jake’s uncle, just pawning ashton off onto anybody who’ll deal with them so she doesn’t have to.

so hexum drops him off with bertrand bell who is rudolph applewhite in this au so he is running a school/home for ‘problem children’ with his partner liev’tel who is the sybil jameson. he has collected all of the hells throughout the years, even adopting chetney as like a weird ass uncle or whatever. so therefore chetney is the zedediah in this world. he lives in a cottage on the property and spends most of his time woodworking and grumbling about the kids running around. the parrot that zedediah has can be pate and go to laudna. laudna and imogen are gonna be like the lucille and archie of this au, but younger.

laudna, i think is the adopted daughter of bertrand after being on the run after her parents were murdered by the briarwoods. he found her and decided that he liked her and that he might as well take her in. so she was there first and then she befriends imogen at school and notices that neither of their needs are being met at the aforementioned school and imogen has a very distant father, so why not ask her loving adoptive father and his partner to school the both of them. 

so that is how it starts and then they add on dorian as cordelia. he is trying to go further with his more musical and artistic expression and that is why he goes there. the next addition to their motley crew was chetney and he just sets up shop and sells his master crafts-work. orym comes next and he the e. d. as he is the most rational, logical, and level headed. he also is there because his bestie dorian is there.

fearne i think fulfills several roles. she is hal and govindaswami in one as well as being a chaotic force in her own right. she shows up as bit after orym as she just followed her boys to bell’s hellions as they are known colloquially. the last to join them, aside from ashton, is letters who is the destiny of this group. he is the youngest as is dumped on bertrand as he is known for taking in renegades. fcg clings to ashton after he becomes a part of the group.

i think the plot should follow fairly closely to the book. so it mostly would follow our favourite punk rock as he settles in to life with the hells, but he really gets invested in them when he is cast in the musical by bertrand and people start to see him as more that a nuisance.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing off and on since I was 10. I started writing seriously during my sophomore year of high school so coming up on 15 years. I joined FFN in 2008 and published there shortly afterwards.

How long have you been writing Olitz?

Since 2012, mid season 2.

What drew you to Olivia & Fitz?

Their deep connection, particularly emphasized during the flashbacks of 2x11 and then Closetgate happened in 2x14 and I was officially hooked.

Outside of Olitz, where do you get inspiration to write?

Everywhere really. Writing started as something to keep my mind occupied and to purge bad emotions  so I could think straight and that’s true today. Inspiration also comes from movies and shows that I watch because I always find a ship. I love to write about love and sometimes, showrunners/movie directors don’t do things right. That’s what fanfic is for.

How do you describe your style of writing?

It depends. Sometimes, it’s purple prose, sometimes it’s dramatic & dark, other times it’s just silly & fun. It depends on what ship I’m focusing on, what canon event that made me happy or pissed off, and how my mood is. Mainly, it’s humorous with a large dash of smut. I like my pairings to be happy. Smut is a part of that. LOL!

Do you write (journal, pen/paper) or type first?

Usually I just type it out.

Do you have a special notebook or writing utensil?

I always carry a notebook with me to jot down ideas and dialogue on the spot so I don’t forget it.

Do you incorporate visuals, music, and/or poetry to help you get into the writing mood?

Music. Lots of music. I have a playlist on Youtube that consists of video game & movie scores/soundtracks and some of my favorite albums, mostly pop punk (MCR, especially) but I do have No Strings Attached by NSYNC on it, too, which is a banger. If I’m writing something particularly sensual, I turn on old school R&B or something from today with a good beat & good lyrics.

Do you use mood boards/aesthetics/Pinterest?

No.

Where do you like to write?

At home in my room. It’s private, I can do it in my PJs, and it’s a surefire cure for insomnia.

How long does it take you to write a chapter?

It depends. Sometimes, it’s a day. Other times, it’s an hour but if it’s particularly long, it can be up to a month solo & more if I’m collaborating with someone.

A favorite line or paragraph you’ve written. 

The opening portion of Chapter 32 of Shattering Expectations. It’s sensual, it’s funny, and it’s also got an element of domesticity between Liv & Fitz that I’ve always loved and wished that we could get more of in canon. I’ve also written some pretty smut over the years, even in my early days of writing. I love to write about love & lovemaking is a part of it...as is fucking. Again, it depends on the pairing, the story, and my mood.

Favorite TV shows/movies: 

Gotham, The Walking Dead, Outlander, SCANDAL (more of the earlier seasons, although there have been some good eps after 3A.), the MARVEL Cinematic Universe, and just about anything from Mel Brooks, especially Young Frankenstein.

Favorite vacation spot: 

I don’t travel a lot but I do like beaches & conservatories.

Mainly AU but if canon comes through for me? Yep.

It’s a tie between 422 when Liv came to him on the Truman, 504 when Fitz took his girlfriend on a date, 308 “vermontgate”, 517 when Fitz comforted Liv after her PTSD flare-up, 220 “watch me earn you”, and their first meeting in 106.
