the surprisedentistry post is about how a lot of people on tumblr dot com would wholeheartedly believe outright absurd stuff regardless of credence or evidence because they wanna be perceived as being on the “right” side of things (examples: the mitski child slave accusations, the various misinfo posts that got spread back in the day like Bird In Chocolate Fountain being denounced as animal cruelty even though it was from an Adam Sandler movie, horse dildo being passed off as the arm of a burn victim, a pic of heath ledger in a cut scene from Batman being passed off as a pic of some “brave veteran” who had scars that everyone wanted to support, etc)

it’s just saying that ppl on here will literally believe goofy shit uncritically and will be upset at people who have even a little bit of skepticism towards it bc they wanna be seen as virtuous and supportive

I got that bit, but I was specifically trying to talk about people who have fallen for one or more of the currently ongoing moral panics. Those have been so much more effective at convincing people to fall for the "Think of the Children" argument that all moral panics, including the satanic panic, rely on. The comparison of people falling for less harmful misinformation on Tumblr forgets the idea that sometimes people lying on the internet are lying about what they believe, too, (see Sharks are smooth).

so i was going to try to see if i could find what that anon was talking about on my own. https://www.tumblr.com/surprisedentistry/677943182076559361/the-isstd-publishes-the-journal-of-trauma-and not sure if this is exactly it, but it is relevant. i will keep looking to see if there is anything else, but it seems that the OP was talking about the fact there are influential figures from the satanic panic era who have moved on to influence research & treatment on DID. as someone w/ DID it is a very very touchy thing because there *are* ppl who did experience what could be described or labeled as ritual abuse, cult abuse, etc. (if u look in the notes there is someone talking abt how this effects trying to seek treatment from genuine cult abuse.) but there also appears to be an intentional agenda with specific "psychiatrists" who were major players in perpetuating the satanic panic, to try to convince ppl with DID that we were victims of things tht are just their personal antisemitic conspiracy theories. this is clearly medical abuse, like manipulating ppl with vulnerable minds & memory issues to believe something that fits their own personal narrative.

i will keep looking but it does not seem like OP is hostile against ppl with DID.

Thank you for looking into this, and honestly I'm sorry if what you found might have been triggering. And yeah that is majorly fucked up (but unfortunately unsurprising), and I can see why that specific argument is happening in the notes now. And while I don't think the OP is hostile, I think giving THIS context rather than just making a catchy tumblr post would have been more helpful.

Don’t agree with proshippers but it’s like. Worth noting that the anon you reblogged from surprisedentistry did say explicitly they are not into that shit they just think other people shouldn’t be harassed for it. Which like I don’t agree with them but I do think it doesn’t help our case to accuse everyone that disagrees with us of being pedophiles when there are legitimately people that think it’s a censorship fiction reality thing and aren’t actually writing or consuming any of the objectionable shit and those people are actually quite possible to talk to and get on the right side, you know?

i see where the confusion is coming from because i worded the tag wrong (should have been "they" and not "you" in reference to the anon) which is my bad, i agree that anon specifically was not a pedophile and i wouldn't accuse someone of that for no reason. but even besides that one person, i've seen the same stupid arguments rehashed hundreds of time from people who ARE explicitly into drawn/written cp and self-identify as shit like l*licons/sh*tacons so that's who i mean when i'm specifically referring to pedophiles, i'm aware that not every "proshipper" is actually one

also wrt to making them realize the problem it would be nice if people who aren't even consuming or creating such content would be more receptive to talking about the problem but quite frankly they usually aren't, people make posts about it over and over but they simply do not care. i've tried to argue with some of these people on twitter many times in hopes of them having some sort of common sense and it usually ends with them accusing me of being a puritan teenager (i'm 23). it's nice to try and by all means if you have the energy to do so then you should, but it gets exhausting when you're yelling at a brick wall especially about such a sensitive topic.

and in all honestly knowing that someone is into things like that but choosing to defend them anyways is already kind of reprehensible imo even if you aren't a degenerate yourself, i've had to taper off a years-long friendship with someone who is close friends with an open pedophile (and i mean OPEN, like their carrd had a list of interests that included sh*ta/l*li and depictions of child r*pe). i KNOW my friend wasnt a pedophile themselves but it was extremely disturbing and distressing to me that they were okay with this and openly associating with an account/person that posted such content, and i think its fair to not want to interact with someone for that reason.

If we're talking about sparkxii's friends, she's mutuals with kirisakin, who used to go by sociallyunacceptableorb. a while back he made a pretty bad post comparing certain things in the tf comics to the Holocaust. He isn't Jewish though, and when Jewish users called him on it, he blocked and ignored their criticism. I believe he did unblock and sort of apologize at some point but it wasn't adequate and the other user involved did not accept it as he seemed to miss the point that his post was offensive. As far as I know this stuff was never resolved.

Not saying that this makes sparkxii antisemitic, as she could easily be unaware that this stuff happened, but it's crazy how many of his friends are involved in this kind of shit, and the trend of half assed or non-existent apologies.

@surprisedentistry actually I think that trying to say that I'm calling all criticism of her behaviour "saying she's fair game for transmisogynists" is far more disingenuous than the purposefully misconstrued version of what I said considering I myself have managed to critique her behaviour without implying that "if you get upset when transmisogynists are infesting your inbox, you are "thin skinned".

What I think is disingenuous is implying that a transfem has not faced any kind of adversity and is just a weak willed crybaby for not liking being harassed with a disproportionate amount of aggression on a scale that no tme person faces for similar takes even though dozens of this exact same post is made every week but it's when a transfem says it we have to run them off a safe space.

I think it's disingenuous to use your experiences as a marginalized person to invalidate that other people's reaction to harassment and act as though the only harassment they are facing is justified when my point is no it isn't (and idc what comments she screenshotted, I can look I her notes and see people calling her a retard and others talking about the "alphabet soup community", I can use my own experiences with harassment to extrapolate from there; you're incorrect about that anyway considering 1/3 screenshots were outright transmisogynistic).

And I think it's disingenuous to say "transmisogynists can die" but in the exact same paragraph tokenize other transfems who agree with you while try to dismissing anothers genuine critique through willful bad faith readings it and calling it "hilarious".

So don't talk about what is or is not disingenuous when your whole response is oozing the stuff.
