ELDER: Pregnancy late in life is tough for the body. Not that Surá would be without Omera, not by any means, but it aged her body a little quicker than she was hoping. But her spirit is still young! And when she died she was the oldest woman in Manthos!

ADULT: She is smarter than her husband. Tougher than her husband, more ambitious than her husband, more fit than her husband, and yes, she is even taller than her husband. She don’t mind. Because at this time in history a woman needed a partner, something Surá was well aware of, and Usas gives her freedom, a benefit that she holds high.

She runs the family and her daughters with a powerful hand, and is clever to use every opportunity to her advantage and to the good for her family. But you really don’t be around when there are family quarrels - they are LOUD!

- She has been called to the palace to entertain you see, Surá continued. And we all know what that entails.

- Oh holy Asatanna!

- Yes we are very worried, and we thought maybe you can give us some advice?

- No, Ikadera is a very talented lyra-player, and Usas mentioned this to one of the servants, and he must have told someone in the royal family.

- It’s all my fault. I should never have told anyone. I should never had let her play at all.

- We all know who are to blame here, and it ain’t anyone in this room, Noor said firmly. Now, how are we going to avoid further problems for Ikadera, that’s the question.

- You know we can’t say no. It’s the King’s request.

- Maybe if you insist you as her parents are by her side day and night?

- I don’t know. Usas said.I’ve seen this happening too many times, with too many girls, so I must admit it feels hopeless.

Surá didn’t say anything.

- Let’s not give up just yet. Noor tried to keep their spirits up. Let me talk with my aunt and uncle. There must be something we can do. Wait, let me go an pick up that baby, because it doesn’t seems he is going to settle down.

- Aww, he is so sweet Noor. You are so lucky to have only boys! When you have girls there are so many problems.

- I know what you mean, Noor nodded, but I also know you love your daughters very much. We’ll find a solution, I’m sure.

The next day Noor and Pamesijos went to Simadhne’s house, and was first met by Nashuja. He was genuinely happy to see his birth-mother.

- Mama Noor! Baby Pami!

- Nashuja my boy, will you lend the baby your bed for an hour or two? I think he needs to sleep.

It didn’t take long to explain the situation of Ikadera for Simadhne and Itaja.

- I was waiting for this, Isaja sighed. And I can’t explain how fricking mad it makes me.

- I know uncle Itaja, but what can we do? Is there really no way to stop this guy?

The opportunity came the same night, and Noor tried to explain to her father-in-law the problems with the finances, the lack of support and the drinking, and that maybe he thought it was Noor’s fault.

- There is no surprise in what you are telling me. I don’t think it’s your fault, but I think that there are things you do that doesn’t help.

- But I’m trying so hard to be good and kind and don’t nag, Noor stuttered

- I know. Maybe it’s better to do this: Tell him that you’ve had enough. That you don’t accept this kind of behavior. That you will stop cooking for him and cleaning his clothes, unless he gives you what you need to run the household. And tell him you will leave him, and take Pamesijos with you, if he doesn’t sharpen up. I will support you in my own way, don’t worry about that.

A few days later Noor found the courage and put up her bitchiest face possible, and told her husband a lesson.

- ... and this time I mean it, Telamon. Sharpen up!

- Why should I care! Telamon answered back annoyed, I’ve had it with your yelling!

- I see. So you are not even going to try to change?

- I’m gonna tell you one thing...

They were interrupted by laud knocking on the door.

It was Usas, the lyra-player and his wife Surá, the parents of Noor’s good friend Apsara. They looked upset.

- Kyria Noor, we hope you can help us with a very difficult and delicate situation. It’s about Ikadera, Aspara’s younger sister.

- Oh yes? How is she?

- At the moment she is fine, but we are very worried, and that’s why we are here.

She died when giving birth to her second child, and even though her husband was a healer, he couldn’t save her. Such a tragedy.

YOUNG ADULT: As she is growing older, Ikadera has a deepen interest in music. She dreams of making her own, but the social conventions and background makes it hard. She hopes to find a life partner that can support her, but she is also a woman driven by her emotions, so that plan might not work.

TEEN: Now that she is older she has started to practice the lyra, and her father is of course the best coach. He says that she is far more talented than he ever was, and that he is hoping convention doesn’t stop her from developing her talent.

CHILD: While her sister Apsara takes more after their mother, Ikadera is definitely her fathers daughter. She is kind to everybody and doesn’t like quarrels - not in the family and not elsewhere. She loves listening to her father playing the lyra and has a dream to play herself. It was not socially acceptable for women to play such instruments, but her father doesn’t care about conventions like that and loved to teach her tips and tricks.

She and Noor have drifted apart for no other reason than their life situations are busy and there simply is not enough time to nurture the friendship. Apsara really misses her only good friend, so maybe one day, when the children are a bit older...

YOUNG ADULT: You can say what you want about Apsara’s moral, but the truth is that she was a good friend to Noor when the worst thing happened. Later they lost contact, blame it on the children and a busy everyday life. Apsara is now happy as a soldier’s wife, and even if she has a “complicated” personality she really loves her family, no doubt about that.

TEEN: Coming from a poor family is not easy, especially when you see the unjust wealth close to you. Apsara decided at an early age that she would plan her life as to never again lack anything material. That, she considers, is the most important thing in life, and nothing stands in her way to achieve precisely that. She is friends with the “right” people, but is not really friends with anyone. She would dump them all, to get what she wants.

So how could a poor girl like her afford to attend the Lykeion. Well, since her father works at the castle. Someone whispered something in the Headmasters ear, and here she is.

It’s not always easy getting older, when the body resists doing what it used to do just fine before. It was a bit of a comfort with the children and grandchildren though, so old age was not without joys.

ADULT: He is such a kind person, relaxed and friendly. He loves to see other people happy, and this is one of the reasons why he became a musician. Not that he is too keen on practicing, he is not that ambitious anyway, but he has a natural talent and loves entertaining people.

He enjoys going out, dancing and drinking. Some (especially his wife) would say he loves drinking too much and he is rather sloppy with money, that’s true. But he is still a family man, and loves his wife and two daughters very much. Even when they don’t love him back.
