Summary: Five years ago, their love was everything. It was quick and intense, restless and wanton. But their desire for one another led them down a path they never thought they'd travel--the loss of their last bits of innocence were consumed by the last lick of their burning love.

Despite everything, Betty is in a good place. She has everything she's ever wanted. But a phone call and a slap from reality changes everything and sends her catapulting back to her former life. Back to the man she once loved. Back to the only man who could help her. Forced together by fate, Jughead and Betty team up and take on their painful history to find what they once thought was lost forever.

Sneak Peak:

On Monday morning though, when she wakes up, something feels off. When she goes to the living room, she sees that the sea outside is restless and angry. The waves seem to swallow the sand. Betty guesses this is the reason for her bad mood — more than one person had told her that living too close to the sea can affect one’s emotions sometimes— but all in all, she has no reason to be feeling down. Today is just another day.

She's in the middle of a meeting, discussing upcoming articles for the the website, when one of the interns, Jenny, enters the room despite the Do Not Disturb warning on the door. Her boss starts to reprimand the girl, but she just shakes her head.

“It's a call for Miss Cooper.” Turning to Betty, the girl continues. “It's your sister. She says it's urgent.”

Fast forward three years. Jughead is nothing but a shadow of the man he used to be until some flowers and an expired loan date bring the full of life, sunny and clumsy mix that is Betty Cooper into his life.

She’s everything he needs, and the one thing he doesn’t believe he can have. Not when every time he sleeps, he forgets everything that happened during daytime. However, even if his mind doesn’t work properly, his heart is set on not giving up on the best thing that has happened to him… since… that morning.

Untitled 

As she lays against him, head on his shoulder, the first thing that comes to Jughead's mind is I wouldn't have it any other way. They've been through so much, faced way more than anyone their age should, just to be here. Today. At this moment, holding each other.

A fraction of second later, the pessimist that lives inside him, the shadow of the boy who was homeless, abandoned literally by his mother and emotionally by his father, told him something else. You should have it any other way. Look around. You're in the middle of nowhere in a falling to pieces trailer, in an old cot, with a used and ruined mattress. Who are you? A gang leader. A struggling young man with few to no chances of getting a good and stable life. What can you possibly offer to her?

“Juggie? Are you okay?” Betty asks, worried about him even sleepy as she's starting to drift off, her body tired and worn out from his sinful ministrations.

He takes more than a moment to reply. “I wish… I wish things could be different. Remember… well, we only joked about it, just another afternoon at Pop's, but I meant it. I truly wish we could just go and leave Riverdale… and go somewhere where all this craziness doesn't exist. You said we could be like Romeo and Juliet, but with a happy ending.” He sighs, looking around, lost in his thoughts. “I'd like that. For us to have a happy ending. I'd like that more than anything in the whole world.” Jughead looks down, to find Betty with her eyes closed, looking peacefully and utterly beautiful. A part of him is actually glad that she's sleeping through his rambling. With everything that has been going on, she needs every moment of rest she can get.

Watching her in his arms reminds him of just how lucky he is to have her, to be loved by her. He is far from deserving but he will never stop being thankful for her.

That same cynic and nettlesome voice whispers in his ear that Betty deserves better than him. More than the little he has to offer. In fact, she deserves the whole world. The thought weights on him even as sleep starts to come. Jughead adjusts his position to lay down by her side without much disturbing her place on his chest, and pressing a kiss to her forehead, he speaks again.

“One day, I'm going to do right by you, Betty Cooper. I will give you the life you deserve. A life away from the madness, the chaos, the violence. I promise.”

He closes his eyes thinking of the life he wants them to have one day. A pretty house, with a front lawn and a white picket fence. Their dream jobs and a gorgeous family with a boy and a girl who have their mother's bright, gentle green eyes with her golden locks.

Early in the morning, Jughead isn't sure of what woke him up first, the sunlight on his face or Betty moving in the bed to go to the bathroom. When she returns, she notices he's awake and comes to sit by his side, pressing a small kiss onto his lips.

“Morning, Betts,” he says with a smile, admiring how the sun is making her hair shine.

“Jug… I… heard you last night.” she finally says, not replying to his first words. For a second he tenses up since the last thing he wants is to fight, but just then, she puts a hand over his bare chest. “You said one day you'd do right by me, but Juggie, you already do. Just by being you, by being here, by loving me. You do right by me every day, and I wouldn't, I won't have it any other way. I love you. And I'm with you whether it's hail, rain or sunshine.” She leans in to press another kiss to his mouth. Then, coming up to lay by his side again in the way she loves most, Betty intertwines their fingers. “I choose you. And I'll choose whatever comes with you. The good, the bad, the Serpents. Don't forget. I’m your Queen. And we… we are partners.”

On the other hand, if you wish to resign to your fate, and die, you can either wait for the sunset or I can end this for you. It’s your choice.“

The silence that followed was deafening. And then, she spoke, and he understood that the fire he had seen in her eyes came from the depths of her soul. 

“I don’t want this to be how my story ends. I can’t let him take my life from me, not when he already took so much. This is not how my story ends.”

He offered her his hand. She took it, standing strong. A second later, Jughead saw it hit her. The hunger. The bloodlust. (...)”

In spite of all the work on my lap right now, this past week I wrote half of the next chapter of my current WIP, I'm nearly finished my next work, and I've outlined not one, but three other plotlines.

Not sure if I should be happy or worried about this.
