Telling people to kill themselves is not okay.

Harassing people over fictional ships is not okay.

Harassing people over their opinion of a game is not okay.

Harassing already overstressed, overworked employees is not okay. ESPECIALLY since it's been documented they've been working under discriminatory and predatory management, been through multiple crunches, and have an unidentified neo-Nazi on their team who management did not properly address and fire.

You can still be critical of a game and not harass the people who made it. Hell, you can absolutely hate a game and still be respectful to the people who made it. I'm sure the creators are far more likely to listen to the fans if we give constructive criticism than if we irresponsibly and cruelly send threats.

I know most people who see this haven't sent hate, and to those people: this post isn't about you. I massively respect you for maintaining your rationality and empathy. But for those who have sent hate or are thinking of doing so, please reconsider. Sending hate isn't going to change anything; it'll only break the fandom even further apart and stress out overworked employees. If you're going to be mad, be mad at the higher-ups at Square Enix for turning the franchise into a cash cow and at the upper management at Deck Nine for overworking and alienating their employees. (Also be mad at that 1 neo-Nazi because seriously, WTF!?)

But please, even to the worst of the worst, do not send death threats or harass people.

it’s honestly sickening seeing how many ppl are openly declaring that they don’t give a fuck about palestine and immigration anymore bc they blame arabs and latines for trump winning, or as usual saying shit like the south deserves natural disasters. like you genuinely have worms for brains if THAT is your takeaway. there’s so much to say about why this perspective is wrong on every level and how the numbers don’t even support it, but at the core of it, the ppl behaving like this are shining examples of why the democratic party continues to fail. and honestly they probably never cared in the first place or were involved in anything to support these communities outside the ballot box, bc true solidarity is not transactional and if you were really in it, you wouldn’t switch up so quickly. like liberals are really out here telling ppl to boycott businesses owned by arabs in michigan and blaming kamala’s loss on all palestinians (even those literally in gaza and even those who voted for kamala), saying they’re going to call ICE on undocumented immigrants bc their relative voted for trump, and saying they’re going to report a woman who went out of state to get an abortion bc she may be a trump supporter, etc. the “we’re drinking starbucks again” bs is just the tip of the iceberg. wishing harm on marginalized communities, spewing hateful rhetoric, and engaging in the same violence as trump supporters bc your candidate lost is just sick. if your immediate response is to turn to racism, xenophobia, islamophobia, etc. - what you hate about trump is right there inside you.

tumblr is doing nothing for pride and target isn't selling much (if any) of their pride collection offline except at certain stores (in democratic areas, basically) and build a bear has a much tinier collection than normal and all the actual pride stuff is on their "adult" website (not sure if it's in stores, but pride = adult is a hell of a message)

there are genuinely good criticisms for performative allyship in all its applications. it shouldn't be the only thing we expect from people and companies. but if all the shit I see being called performative stopped tomorrow then in terms of the LGBTQ+ community especially we just. wouldn't talk about queerness or queer issues or celebrate pride or do anything.

open your fucking eyes. we are very close politically to having gay marriage rolled back. now companies are basically being let off the hook to even make a miniscule effort (which matters to the people who don't have access to any other kind of support in their communities! which normalizes the community in public spaces!) because the only reaction they have gotten over the last few years are negative ones from BOTH sides.

we are so entrenched in discourse at all times for the sake of our OWN performance of who is the wokest and who is REALLY an ally or a good community member that we have basically handed over all the work of activists of the last several decades to the other side because we'd rather scream at each other over fucking chicken restaurants and shit than the real life backsliding that's happening.
