Trains are the original self-driving cars. They go on special roads, and you don't have to pay attention to what's going on. In some countries, you get to finish reading your pocket novel, get up from your seat, walk to a bar, and start getting completely ass-hammered drunk, while still arriving on time. That's what futurists want, and by golly, we're not going to give it to them.

Me, I at least try to be a bit internally consistent with my criticism of other things. Review it fairly, using a set of agreed-upon quantitative criteria. You can do a burnout in a train, so that's a big plus. Powerslides, not so much. Curvy mountain roads? Yes. Four wheel drive? I have absolutely no idea, so let's say yes. Boxy, has a 1970s aesthetic, and smells bad? You bet. On the balance, trains are pretty close to my ideal vehicle, but you're not working to convince me. You're working to convince The Decision Makers.

Why? Think about it: at what point in your life did the obviously superior and cheaper alternative win out over the messy one? I don't think that I have ever seen such a thing occur, and I have been around long enough to remember when people weren't openly mocked in public for Ford ownership. Folks get a little upset that the train doesn't go exactly where they want, and suddenly it's an infeasible transport device.

That's why I've got a really good idea. You see, the railways have these special trucks that go on the tracks. Those trucks have little wheels that pop out and run on the tracks, and when it's time for them to do regular-truck stuff, they pop the wheels back up and drive wherever they want. So let's do that for every car, and just call the railways "ultra-glide high-speed superways" or something stupid like that. It'll be really popular, so popular that we'll need to build more tracks so that we're not constantly waiting for assholes to clear the switching yard on our way to the grocery store.

When the entire world is consumed by railway tracks and a million idiots screaming down them while sawing uselessly at their steering wheels, you can thank me profusely. I didn't do anything other than follow the path set out in front of me.

Synopsis: Bu Xia was raised by his grandfather, a spiritual medium. His grandfather passes away and after the funeral Bu Xia hears murmurs now and then. Thinking he is hallucinating he is prepared to seek treatment but he finds the murmurs are getting clearer and they are the voices of ghosts.

Meanwhile Bu Xia has a roommate Jiang Chi that excels at everything from sports to academics. Bu Xia finds the more he gets in touch with Jiang Chi the less he hears ghostly voices. So he finds ways to approach Jiang.

nora facts: -is very avoidant and hates conflict. very much a "flight" kind of person instead of "fight". runs away a lot. the queen of dodging a question on whats wrong. i think the possibility of talking through a spat makes them nervous because they don't like to feel small or judged. -nora has a shadow form! it only appears when they're frightened and trying to run from whatever is freaking them out... or theyre very sleepy. -loves the internet for its information superway advantages! nora loooves to peruse wikipedia and random websites for lots of different interests. she loves to learn! always has.

-speaking of learning, nora knows many things and picks up many hobbies or facts. they never really talk about em unless you know to ask hyper specific questions. they'll come out at the funniest times. "DON'T WORRIE! I KNO HOW TU SOOTHE A WILD RACCOON!" "HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT??" -nora is known on multiple hobby forums as an excited newbie who has a clear passion for the thing already. -has a webpage dedicated as a stargazing diary! "The Stars and Me!" is a cute name for it i think. -stamps feet when excited. so if you show nora a funny sweater they could knit, except a series of clicks from their boots. "-CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK- I luv luvluvluvLUUUUUUUUV IT~!"

-loves goofy sweaters and anything super cozy. nora likes their clothes to feel like a hug. they will melt during summer but its ok. anything for the sweater with a kitten on the front...

For any of my fishblr followers that may be in the CA bay area- Theres a really neat aquarium store in Hayward called Superway Aquarium and its been there since 1973. Its kind of a hole in the wall place but they have a lot, take really good care of their fish, and the staff is super knowledgeable and helpful

I still have to work out some plot-holes for this au, but I wanted all 3 cousins to be actually old 1920 cartoons that lost their spotlight as years went by and color cartoon began to take place. Edgar left toon-town, started pretending to be a human and found work and kinda-success as a detective (explaining how he has the role of Eddie Valiant in this au).

Marcus never knew what happened to his cousin, so he became very hostile towards the new cartoony scene, blaming it for Edgar departure. Years later he planned to disguise himself as a human as well (like Judge Morton) and destroy toon-town by building the superway. I don't think I want him to be as evil as Judge Morton, so no murder would happen, just a "comedic" serie of misadventures...

The Burning of the Drew’s Library: A JM Drew story part 2

My final piece for the Door-to-Door Au. JM’s watching his library burn

JM stared down at the pile of books before him. Felix helped him best he could, but now it was up to him. He looked up at his bookshelf again so many gaps, so much ash. His eyes fixated on the “Johan” book, the seams tearing, smoke billowing.

JM never opened that book, always had a feeling it wouldn’t work. He’s never met Johan, Johan has no idea who he is. Why would Johan listen to him?

Then there was Joy’s. Another book he was sure wouldn’t work, another Joey he’s never met, nor would he think would listen.

All JM could do was stare at the books slowly burned. What was the use? He was too late to stop whatever happened to Magenta, another Drew he’s never met. No one knows him, and those that do hate him, why would he think he could help these ones?

JM sat on the floor, his legs crossed and watched the books burn before him. The sparks jump from one book to the next, the...multiversal superway before him ablaze in beautiful destruction. He saved a few select books, the Joey’s he knew could help him if he needed it, but the rest he could only watch burn.

“This multiverse….really only just got connected...and here it is. Burning” JM’s ink eye begins to drip, his own kind of tears. “I guess I’m alone again.”
