Meda (MB), secondo Francis Rizzo il 2023 sarà ricco di successi per il Francis Boxing Team. Lo scorso 19 novembre a Meda (Monza e Brianza), nel corso della manifestazione The Art of Fighting 2, Francesco Paparo ha superato ai punti Simone Carlin (contro il quale aveva pareggiato il 19 marzo a Cinisello Balsamo, alle porte di Milano), ottenendo la prima vittoria della carriera professionistica. Dopo una brillante carriera da dilettante culminata con il titolo italiano under 22 nella categoria dei 60 kg, nell’estate del 2021 a Cascia (Umbria), Francesco Paparo si appresta a tornare sul ring per costruire un record che gli permetta di diventare sfidante al titolo italiano. Ma non è l’unico del Francis Boxing Team che ha queste ambizioni. “Francesco ha le qualità per diventare campione d’Italia anche da professionista – spiega Francis Rizzo – e la netta affermazione su Simone Carlin lo dimostra. Al PalaMeda Francesco ha sfoderato le sue note qualità tecniche, la sua capacità di sferrare pugni da ogni angolazione (anche quando si trova alle corde) e di scambiare combinazioni a viso aperto nel centro del ring. In questo momento, Francesco è un terza serie. Voglio farlo combattere contro avversari italiani con un record positivo in modo da farlo passare presto seconda serie. Il passo successivo sarà battere avversari italiani nelle prime posizioni della classifica in modo da diventare sfidante al titolo nazionale. Dobbiamo ancora decidere se rimanere nella categoria dei pesi leggeri o scendere in quella dei pesi superpiuma considerato che Francesco scende senza problemi a 57 kg. Il prossimo combattimento di Francesco sarà nella tredicesima edizione della Night of Kick and Punch che Angelo Valente organizzerà a gennaio o febbraio del 2023. In quell’occasione combatterà anche un altro pugile del Francis Boxing Team: il moldavo Vadim Gurau (7 vittorie e 6 sconfitte) che ha molto da dare nella categoria dei pesi supermedi. Ricordo che ha battuto un avversario quotato come Alessandro Goddi ed ha tenuto testa per le sei riprese previste ad un picchiatore come Ivan Zucco che poi è diventato campione d’Italia ed è ancora imbattuto. Credo molto anche nel peso medio Mattia Carvelli (0-2-1) che è stato protagonista di un match spettacolare contro Othmane Dioual nell’undicesima edizione di Ring Roosters svoltasi all’MGM di Milano l’11 dicembre 2021.   I due pugili hanno tirato centinaia di pugni fino all’ultimo secondo dell’ultimo round lasciando tutta l’energia che avevano sul ring. All’angolo di Dioual, c’era l’ex campione del mondo dei pesi superpiuma WBO Kamel Bou Ali che lo allena a Milano. I giudici hanno dato la vittoria a Dioual, ma nessuno avrebbe avuto nulla da dire se l’avessero data a Mattia dato che l’incontro è stato equilibrato. Sono sicuro che Mattia otterrà presto la prima vittoria da professionista. Il peso superleggero Gianpaolo Venanzetti (4-0 con 4 vittorie prima del limite) è fermo ma dovrebbe tornare presto ad allenarsi. Non dimentico il peso superpiuma Andrea Lo Sicco, che ho iscritto al torneo delle cinture FPI.” Francis Rizzo ha fondato il Francis Boxing Team nel 2012, in Via Stoppani 4-A a Rho, alle porte di Milano dove allena persone comuni che vogliono mantenersi in forma praticando il pugilato, pugili dilettanti e professionisti. Ha organizzato dodici edizioni di Ring Roosters, la manifestazione caratterizzata dall’abbinamento tra sport e spettacolo in cui giovani pugili si costruiscono il record in modo da poter sfidare il campione d’Italia e tra un combattimento e l’altro si esibiscono artisti come il comico Max Cavallari dei Fichi d’India. Neo-retro project: My 1995 Cannondale R400

A few months, I saw on Instagram a pretty beautiful Cannondale R400 in some sort of ocean blue color (it has a specific name that I can't find right now). I decided to buy it and see how it'd ride.

The first few rides went ok but far from the comfort of a modern build. I first thought about changing just the cockpit but would always run into some incompatibilities with the groupset (mix of 10-speed 105 and Ultegra). I also found the cassette too small to really go on long adventures with the bike. Lastly, the beautiful Flite saddle simply wasn't that comfortable for me.

So I ended changing almost everything, for the following result:

Note: the saddle was a bit low when I took the photos, and I have plans to lower the stem for a more aero riding position.

So how does it ride?

Overall, I'm very happy with the build and you can see my first ride with it on Strava. However, it might have been a better idea to get the Bora WTO in 45mm — the current build is very comfortable but clearly lacks the stiffness and reactivity of a modern bike. A deeper wheelset would help bring back a bit of stiffness. It's more than enough for a nice social ride on Sunday, though :).

Meda, sport e spettacolo a "The Art of Fighting". Il campione del mondo di kickboxing Luca Cecchetti, i talentuosi pugili Francesco Paparo, Gianpaolo Venanzetti, Momo El Maghraby e tanti VIP saranno protagonisti di una serata in stile Las Vegas. L'evento è la seconda edizione di The Art of Fighting che avrà luogo sabato 19 novembre al Palazzo dello sport di Meda, una cittadina a 30 minuti da Milano. "Il PalaMeda ha 1.200 posti – spiega l’organizzatore Edoardo Germani - ma per le regole relative al Covid la capienza consentita nella prima edizione era del 60%. Abbiamo venduto tutti i biglietti e contiamo di farlo anche il 19 novembre quando la capienza sarà del 100%. Proporremo quattro incontri di pugilato sulla distanza delle 6 riprese e quattro di kickboxing con le regole dello stile K-1 (pugni, calci e ginocchiate) sulla distanza delle 3 riprese da 3 minuti ciascuna. Con Luca Cecchetti ho fondato la società The Art of Fighting con l’obiettivo di produrre manifestazioni di pugilato e kickboxing di altissimo livello. I nostri punti di riferimento sono i grandi eventi olandesi, giapponesi e americani dove oltre a far combattere campioni affermati ed atleti emergenti di talento viene offerto al pubblico (tra un incontro e l’altro) anche uno spettacolo divertente con cantanti, ballerine, comici ed altri artisti. Lo show serve per avvicinare un maggior numero di persone ai nostri sport. In Italia, quasi tutte le manifestazioni di pugilato e kickboxing offrono solo i combattimenti e quindi solo i praticanti di questi sport comprano i biglietti. Invece, li devono comprare anche gli amici dei praticanti che non hanno mai visto un combattimento di kickboxing o pugilato e non hanno mai pensato di recarsi ad un evento. Se comprano il biglietto perché a loro piace lo spettacolo di contorno, è probabile che si appassionino anche al pugilato ed alla kickboxing e per loro diventi normale venire alle nostre manifestazioni". Nel main event della manifestazione del 19 novembre, il campione del mondo di kickboxing Luca Cecchetti affronterà il portoghese Fredo Cordeiro. Nella prima edizione di The Art of Fighting, Luca Cecchetti ha superato ai punti lo spagnolo Silviu Vitez. Per quanto riguarda il pugilato, The Art of Fighting 2 offrirà al pubblico tre pugili in ascesa: il peso superleggero Gianpaolo Venanzetti, il peso leggero Francesco Paparo ed il peso mediomassimo Momo El Maghraby. Al PalaMeda, il 21enne Francesco Paparo (1 pari) affronterà Simone Carlin (0-1-1) contro il quale ha debuttato da professionista lo scorso 19 marzo al Palazzo dello Sport Salvador Allende di Cinisello Balsamo ottenendo un pareggio.
