i’m so fucking sick of streaming services/platforms and netflix in particular. unless it’s a show with a Star Name attached they provide little to no effort marketing it and the only way to get a chance at renewal is if somehow the show becomes a mega hit that breaks streaming numbers in an absurdly short time period with absolutely no support from the platform. they make renewal/cancellation calls after 1-2 MONTHS. it’s a miracle for a netflix original content to get past season 1 now and virtually unheard of to survive past season 2. as a result we have this graveyard collection of content that writers, directors, actors, everyone puts their heart and soul into that will never see the light of day again. despite being objectively GOOD content. at least with traditional tv networks shows that get canceled they have a chance at being picked up somewhere else as we’ve seen with brooklyn 99, manifest, supergirl. but with these fucking platforms like netflix they own total rights over the content and would rather burn their own money than sell a show.
if netflix just wants to produce movies, limited series and documentaries then go right fucking ahead. but these streaming services can’t continue getting away with taking all these shows and churning them out just to slaughter it especially when it’s content that upholds POC, LGBT and other diverse groups that get so little made for them in the first place.
#like just to make it perfectly fucking clear heartstopper isn't a netflix show#netflix is just the distributor bc believe me if it was their show with those numbers?#that shit would've been axed along with the rest#they're just taking the credit for another production company actually being the ones putting in the money and committing to produce more#i took a chance and renewed my subscription after first kill#never fucking again#FUCK NETFLIX#i can't stand the bullshit reasoning behind these decisions anymore#bc if a show does good but not record setting numbers it's a series completion problem#or it's because it's not critically lauded#it's always a moving target

Loss
by Elphaba
Takes place after the NBC/CW Show ends. Follows on from there - a virtual 'Season Seven' if you will that will address a lot of the things the show never addressed or wrapped up.
It's not been beta'd so all mistakes are mine. If someone does beta for me I'll go back and fix them.

Hey hope you have a good day, it's amaizing that you take your time to write, even with a lot of stuff going on. What do think of the SG VS?
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it and hope you have a great day as well!
I’ve got the Supergirl Virtual Season open at home and am excited to read it, but I haven’t gotten a chance with the long hours at work and all. I think the idea is amazing, though, and it really showcases what collaboration between a supportive community of writers and editors and artists can look like! And it’s definitely got some of my favorite fanfic authors working on it. Plus, who didn’t miss Cat Grant and Kara Danvers’ well-rounded character this past season?

Catching up on Supergirl Virtual Season and putting the floaty review box through it’s paces by commenting on things that jump out at me as I find them.
I haven’t been taking the time to make the collection of random comments look particularly coherent. Jumping of part to part with each new line, but it’s the enthusiasm that matters right?
Ah whatever, the point is if you haven’t already you should totally go check out the story (and the gorgeous art and gifs) because all of it is amazing.
Here’s is a link to the first chapter of the first part. Dive (Part I)

In February, it was announced that Azie Tesfai who plays Kelly Olsen on The CW's Supergirl would co-write the twelfth episode of the series' sixth and final season, marking the first time an Arrowverse actor has written an episode of their own series. Tesfai has previously spoken about how exciting the experience was for her, but now that the episode is coming together, Tesfai is sharing some behind-the-scenes details, revealing a very personal connection to elements of the upcoming episode.
On Instagram on Wednesday, Tesfai shared set photos featuring an Ethiopian restaurant. In the caption for the photos, she revealed the significance of that restaurant and its name as a tribute to her mother.
"My mom immigrated to this country with nothing. Her life long dream was to open her own Ethiopian restaurant, but instead she sacrificed everything to give me every possible opportunity," Tesfai wrote. "So in my first tv writing episode, in the opening scene my character walks out of an Ethiopian restaurant for an important call. An Ethiopian restaurant with my mom's name on it. Selamawit Ethiopian. Love you mom. Honoring you, in putting a bit of your dream into the sacrifices you made so I could have my own."
Tesfai previously told Entertainment Weekly that the time at home due to COVID-19 allowed her to write a spec script to dig into Kelly's voice which led to her writing an episode.
"I love Kelly Olsen so much and I'm so protective over her," Tesfai said. "And truly the fans, over the years, have made me step into being more protective over her and they've kind of empowered me to fight for her and speak up for her. I actually wrote a spec script during the break, during COVID when everyone was home, just to kind of show Kelly's voice and maybe some ideas, and that led to me writing the episode."
Tesfai is co-writing the episode with supervising producer J. Holtham and explained that she prepared by spending a month in the show's virtual writers room.
"I did the 9 to 5 on Zoom with everyone, so I realized I probably like a 9 to 5 more than I thought," she said. "I think [we're] on the fifth round of draft notes right now. So it's been really exciting."
Also exciting is what the episode and the season have in store for Kelly. Tesfai said that fans of the character will be very excited for where things go for Kelly.
"[Episode] 12, in my opinion, for Kelly, is the most epic episode of the season, so I'm excited to get to pen it."
She added, "The fans have been very vocal about what they want to see for Kelly -- and I feel like they know what I'm talking about -- and they, especially in the back half of the season, will get everything that they want, and it makes me very excited."

25. Comfy (or Virtual Love)
by Redblue747
“Lena?” Smack! She flew into the wall on the other side of the street. I loved my powers in here. I felt in control of everything. One more punch before the ceremony, I needed to hit her one more time. Beat her like she had manipulated me for years. Hard and with no warning. “Lena,” Supergirl said when she had gotten back from the other side of the street. “Don’t do this. I know that you're angry with me, but you have to listen to me. I love you.” “End simulation.”
Or
Lena enters Obsidian virtual word to get her anger out on Kara, but Kara tells her that she loves her. She keeps going back into the simulation to get what she wants from Kara, she needs her best friend back, and it gets harder and harder to leave and soon she finds no reason to leave. In there she has everything she ever wanted.
It's a 501 and forward rewrite.

I know it's been a while since the finale has aired but I think it's safe to say that everyone is still pretty salty over the ending.
There are many reasons why season 6 is probably the worst season ever and the finale was even worse, but the one that I absolutely loathe is the shitty excuse they gave for Kara to reveal herself. I just don't understand the logic behind Kara revealing her identity?
I mean there's the whole 'I'll never truly be me' thing which was really not that huge of a deal before and honestly, like a cheap excuse to just do something. For all that she stood for, taking her glasses off for that reason alone was so rubbish.
The whole reason she concealed her identity in the first place was because she couldn't compromise the safety of her loved ones.
Or actually, more accurately, Kara wasn't the one to conceal her identity. Clark was; because he was Superman and unless he revealed his identity to the world, there was no way Kara could. He didn't reveal himself as Superman to protect his loved ones, his family, and once Kara came, to protect her too. That was his decision. And for Kara to just throw that all up in the air and reveal herself to the world was really quite selfish and just SO out of character. It's just absurd. (No wonder she's practically a ghost in Superman and Lois.)
At that time, Kara's identity was concealed because she could have been used against him if the world knew of Superman's cousin. But that all went to hell when she did exactly that and came out as Supergirl, and yet, that was still okay because they were two indestructible beings and were capable of taking care of themselves if they were ever used against each other. (And yet they never were even though the whole world knew they were cousins. Except for Lex, who actually just changed teams. Even he didn't do anything in that regard.)
I mean, virtually all that the rest of the world knew about these two was that Superman and Supergirl were cousins and nothing other than Kryptonite could hurt them. I count two weaknesses. And you're telling me that their enemies didn't once clash trying to hurt the other in some way or the other to get back them? Yeah, right.
Either way, I get that it was Supergirl, so obviously, there wasn't much of Superman in it, but I feel like they didn't give Kara and Clark a personal angle.
Anyway, the point was that revealing her identity would have put all of Clark's family in danger. She understood perfectly well why she had to be Kara Danvers in the first place ever since she came to Earth. And that was before she built any relationships.
Then she made her own family. There have already been enough times where Alex has been in danger just because she was a DEO agent. And she may be Sentinel now, but she's not indestructible. With everyone knowing Supergirl is Kara Danvers, everyone will also know Alex Danvers by default.
And there are a million other reasons I could state like not even being able to meet the rest of the Justice League without compromising them (working with them in their gear would be risky enough, but there's no way Kara and Barry could ever have a drink again) or putting Nia under suspicion, but the one most important and recent one would be Esme.
I mean just last episode she got kidnapped and even William was murdered. Be it with or without Lex's knowledge of Kara being Supergirl, it was still enough to scare the hell out of all of them. And yet she still thought it was best to take off her glasses?
Here Kara is, standing at her sister's wedding, with their child- her niece probably as the flower girl, surrounded by her family and friends with nice normal jobs, AND SHE THOUGHT REVEALING HER IDENTITY SHOULD BE HER HAPPY ENDING WHEN HER LITTLE NIECE WAS KIDNAPPED JUST WEEKS AGO?
Out of all the reasons, this is why I hate the finale ending the most. The writers made no sense at all and it was just horrible. They gave us a beautiful character and made her a stranger in the end.
Supergirl was a comfort show for most of us and it made us feel warm and- yellow, you know? But then we get this 'endgame'.
Season 1 or 2 Kara would be baffled by season 6 Kara. Or even child Kara, I think.
