WIP Tag Game

As the lovely @a-lil-bi-furious said: third time’s the charm! Or… fourth? I’m honestly not sure how many times I’ve tried to do this, but I know I have failed to finish a single one of my WIPs every time I’ve done this.

I’m also notorious for barely ever answering all of my asks, which I apologize dearly for, but I’m going to try my best to answer as many as possible this time. It will take me some time as I have the natural pace of a snail, but I will get to them.

Hey love your blog. I am curious. Do you watch the flash? If u do, what's your take on Barry/Iris? And how do they compare to the other ships in the DC universe? I don't mean in which one is superior but in how they r written.

I do, I haven’t this season because I’m on strike but I don’t really follow the fandom.

As for Barry/Iris, I suppose I think of them as the most canon couple since they were together in the comics. I like the fact that the woman who plays Iris is a Mississippi girl and I like that a smart, beautiful, strong woman of color is on the screen playing an iconic part. I think she and Barry have great chemistry and, if I were a shipper, I’d definitely be pulling for them.

Here’s a trivia fact; did you know that Barry and Iris have twins, a boy and a girl? In fact, in the older cartoons they were the parents of the Wonder Twins but later their kids became speedsters. Cool, huh?

That said, the best thing about fanfic is it allows us to explore all sorts of possibilities, not all of them canon. I have a thing for SnowBarry as well and I like the idea of SuperFlash. After all, these are a bunch of twenty-somethings who are barely out of college so they should play the field a little. I thought Felicity and Barry were cute and I would’ve rather seen a season of them than that Ray Palmer Captain Pinkeye shit. To me Ray came off as a pompous ass with stalkerish tendencies and it bugged the crap out of me.

One of the things I like most about Flash though is the fact that I don’t have a horse in the game. I only watch it incidentally and I don’t ship any of the characters or read the fanfic so I’m able to just watch it without feeling the need to get emotionally invested. I love Olicity, don’t get me wrong, but the ship wars in this fandom are part of the reason I stopped watching the show. I hated the way the fucked up writing was making me feel and, as much as I dig Olicity, the whole thing stressed me out.

I also have to say that’s the reason I’ve always resisted being labeled a ‘shipper’. I prefer to write without rules or have ships bogging me down. There are so many possibilities within the Arrow universe that could be explored but shipping has greatly limited those possibilities due to the fanaticism of some readers and writers.

I came from Trek and, while there are ships and low-key ship wars, for the most part the writers there write for plot, not for ships. A Kirk/Spock writer could pair Spock with McCoy or a Garak/Bashir author could pair Garak with Paris and everyone would still be cool. In this fandom if you stray from the accepted ship then it’s like you’ve committed heresy or something.

I know this question was about Flash but I’m mostly an Arrow girl; specifically I’m all about Felicity. I could easily cross her with just about anyone and, if I had enough hours in the day, I’d love to do just that.

My dream pairings are Batlicity (obviously) and Flommy (ditto), with a healthy serving of mainstream Olicity, but I’ve always wanted to write a Felicity/Robert or a Felicity/Lance as a sort of May/December alt universe thing. I enjoy Smoaking Billionaires but  I also like Smoaking Canaries since femme slash is fucking awesome. I’d love to do a good DeathSmoak and have one started in my trunk file. Barry and Felicity are cute together but never really turned me on, however I could see the possibilities. 

One of the most disappointing things about this entire Arrow Universe fandom is that most of the people participating are so stuck on the idea of ships that they get locked in the idea that these two people HAVE to be together and that’s crap. Anything can work if you have a good writer behind it. Even Lauriver could work under the right circumstances but I just don’t feel like writing that. 

Anyway, hope that answered your question somewhat.

SuperFlash Musical Crossover playlist

So, I created a playlist for the SuperFlash musical crossover to get into the mood. For every confirmed singer, I picked two of their songs and I put them together in one playlist.

I really wished I could use a Hedwig song for Darren, but he has no recorded songs. Apart from glee and Hedwig, Starkid means the most to me, and this version of this beautiful song is my favourite.

This song never fails to amaze me. I chose to only pick two songs from each actor, and that was a great number for almost all of them.

Oh fuck no, I could give you twenty of those. 

I got to know Darren through glee, so I knew I had to pick one from this show, and this is my favourite Blaine solo. Kinda. Whereas this song shares its first place with Teenage Dream (acoustic), I chose this one.

I can also elaborate a bit more on Santa Fe, because the reasons I picked these two songs are a) Jesse L. Martin and b) it shows such a contrast between happiness/hope and sadness/devastation.

Shiksa Goddess (The Last Five Years)

Originally, I chose Santa Fe from Newsies, but I changed it into this the moment I remembered he played Jaime in the movie version of this musical. Yes, I know, I failed the Broadway community by giving up Santa Fe, but unpopular opinion, I’m not that big on the song.

I was torn between this song and Moving Too Fast. I chose Shiksa Goddess because it sounds more fun.

When I Drive (Bonnie & Clyde) - ft. Claybourne Elder

Speaking of fun songs, I love this one! Whereas his other song, Raise A Little Hell, is powerful, I once again chose fun over despair (also, because I was still crying because of I’ll Cover You (reprise)). Bonnie & Clyde is so underappreciated. I can safely say it’s my favourite Broadway Flop, just beating Tuck Everlasting and Catch Me If You Can.

New York State Of Mind (Glee) - ft. Lea Michele

Okay, this surprised me. I started listening to Melissa’s songs some more after the SuperFlash episode got announced. I never really listened that much to Melissa’s songs on glee, because honestly, I kinda really hate Marley’s guts and skipped almost everything involving her.

I chose this song because it’s such a wonderful song and you know, Marley had so much potentional in this episode and she deserved to be loved.

Chasing Pavements (Glee)

Maybe that’s the reason this is from the same episode. I originally was going to pick Everytime, since that’s my favourite Marley solo on glee (yes, I hate her but yes, she still has a favourite solo). 

But you know, I loved this performance a lot, and I guess I once again preferred fun over pain.

And I hate the Jarley thing.

Try watching Arrow and taking Malcolm seriously after this. I am not that familiar with La Cage, but I did know about John playing the lead role during the West End’s production, so here you go.

The Doctor And I (it’s complicated)

Actually, it’s really not. It’s just John’s version of the Wicked song The Wizard and I. I first got to know John because of his role in Doctor Who: Jack fucking (literally) Harkness. Some Doctor Who flair was appropriate.

I like the song and it’s the song he’s most well-known for, and I love how UMich this performance is. I mean, I know Carlos was in Once, but if I’m right he has a very background-y role.

BACK TO FUCKING STARKID Y’ALL. 

Not many people know Carlos is a Starkid. I didn’t know either till I started watching the Flash and someone pointed it out on Team Starkid Confessions. 1001 Nights is a wonderful song. AJ and Kaley outdid themselves, and Meredith and Dylan sang it beautifully.

But people tend to overlook Carlos and Britney’s version. So here you go...

I honestly never heard of Rachel Bloom before, but I had heard of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and I adore the way the show handled bisexuality with the song Getting Bi. So when I found it was actually written by Bloom, I knew I had to add it.
