I have tried to comprehend why Nigerian’s wealthy or ruling class have not supported the womens game in Nigeria considering it has won more than triple of the cup of nations compared to any other winner and then this image was shared to me by Hillary Maame Adwoa Boaten, Men of Nigeria simply don’t want women of Nigeria in sport. I am not suggesting any will admit in western european, which includes the usa, media. But it is clear, away from media and in the personal home, many Nigerian men are opposers to Nigerian women athletics. Thus, the Super Falcons, nigerian womens team, far larger success in the Cup of Nations compared to the Super Eagles, nigerian mens team, receives no return on its successes.

WAFCON 2022: Super Falcons fail to qualify for final
Nigeria will not play in the final of this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, after losing 5-4 on penalties to Morocco. The Super Falcons were chasing a record-extending 10th title coming into the semi-final clash, but would have to wait longer to achieve it. Randy Waldrum’s ladies were reduced to 10 men, after Halimatu Ayinde was shown a straight card for a stamp following a VAR review. However, Uchenna Kanu gave Nigeria the lead, reacting fastest to a rebound inside the box. The hosts levelled 10 minutes later after Chiamaka Nnadozie flapped at a cross and Sanaa Mssoudy tucked home the loose ball. Rasheedat Ajibade was also sent off for the Falcons after another VAR review. During the shoot-out, Onumonu was the only player that missed her penalty, as Morocco booked their place in the final against South Africa Read the full article

Super Falcons exit the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris after defeat to Japan
After losing to Japan 3-1, the Nigerian Super Falcons withdrew from the women's football competition at the 2024 Olympic Games. Japan immediately became the game's anchor, holding Nigeria back. In the seventh minute, keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie denied the Japanese with an incredible save. Nine minutes later, Osinachi Ohale made a crucial block to ensure Japan maintained their lead. The Asian champions' efforts paid off in the 22nd minute when Chelsea forward Maika Hamano gave her team the lead. In ten minutes, Mina Tanaka doubled the lead. Three minutes before halftime, PSG's newest recruit Jennifer Echegini gave the Super Falcons a goal back. But Hana Kitagawa's magnificent free kick in first-half stoppage time gave Japan their two-goal lead back. While the Japanese sat back and attempted to counterattack, the Super Falcons controlled the majority of the ball in the second half. In the fifty-two-minute mark, Rasheedat Ajibade was found to have pulled an opponent within the box, and Japan was given a penalty. However, following a VAR review, the centre referee reversed the decision.
Nigeria had zero points from its three games, placing them last in Group C. Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade Reps committee again summons NFF President over non payment of Super Falcons allowance Abuja, Aug 23, 2023 (NAN) The ad hoc committee investigating the face-off between Super Falcons and Officials of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has once again summoned Ibrahim Gusau, the president of the federation. Rep. Blessing Onu, the Chairman of the ad hoc committee investigating the face off, reinvited Gusau after he failed to appear on Tuesday. Re-inviting the NFF president, Onu said the sitting of the committee was not to witch hunt anyone but to discharge its functions in line with the mandate of the House. Onuh who issued the notice, frowned at the NFF President’s deliberate refusal to honour the invitation of the Ad hoc committee. According to her, the NFF president was supposed to appear before the ad hoc committee in Aug. 17 , the reasons the NFF president gave were not as important as the work of this ad hoc committee. “Nigerians are interested, Nigerians are watching. The girls did extremely well and they made Nigerians proud, so we shouldn’t take this investigative hearing likely. “We gave an opportunity for the president of NFF to appear before this Ad hoc committee, I will say invariably he is the one summoning us. “He came up with an excuse that it is not as important as what we have. The allowances and the dues that were supposed to be paid to the female footballers, the Super Falcons and he turned it down, “What is more important is for him to attend the FIFA Women Convention or to appear before this committee. And even at that he has the effrontery to send his SA that he won’t be able to make it, it simply means he is taking us for granted, he is taking us for a ride and we will not tolerate it we will not,” she said Speaking earlier, the NFF Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi said the NFF President could not attend the investigative hearing because of his ill-health. The ad hoc committee however walked out the Secretary-General and his team who came to represent the NFF president. Meanwhile, some concerned members of the committee who did not want their name mentioned at the sideline of the investigative hearing, accused Adams of frustrating the exercise. They alleged that the NFF President was asked not to appear before the committee.(NAN) #allowance #Repscommittee #superFalcons

Nigeria can dominate the world, but not with this League – Christopher Danjuma
Fmr. Super Falcons Boss says Nigeria can dominate the world, but not with this League Nigeria has outgrown the competition on the continent in Women’s football and the next course; which seems now long overdue, should be measuring up to Europe and the best teams across the world. The Super Falcons have won the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations 9 times and have become the standard for the rest of the continent, but to whom do they look for the next big challenge? Those questions can only be answered by the NFF, says former Falcons Coach Christopher Danjuma. “I have said every team in Africa says if you want to be in the World Cup all you need to do is beat Nigeria; that is their yard stick in Africa,” he told brila.net. “Now we as the champions in Africa, what have we made our own yardstick. The continent is no more our issue, it is a birth right thing, we need to set up a mark for ourselves, but know it boils down to finances.” “Our focus should be giving our teams more intercontinental engagements. We need to get a programme for the National team and structure it in such a way that we’re not focused on African teams again, our focus is to see how much we are rivaling Europe. “It might not take a year, but it’s a long term programme and you’ll discover that we’re there. We are not relegating Africa but let our focus be on intercontinental competitions. In the four years period of preparation, I think we’ll become a more excellent side.” Read the full article
