warnings: rafe being mean (still hot tho fr), swearing. again, my shitty writing cause it’s been a while.
summary: rafe comes home with bloodied knuckles, still super angry from a fight he got himself in, yells at you when you ask about it.
you giggle to yourself as your eyes follow the childish cartoon cat on the television. this pretty much sums up your night, sitting on the couch enjoying the shows that bring out your inner child. your boyfriend, rafe, had gone out a couple hours earlier saying very little about where he was going, apart from he needed to sort out some business, whatever that meant.
rafe cameron point blank refused to let his angel know anything about what he actually does, claiming he didn’t want to fill her pretty little head with worrisome thoughts.
within the first hour of his absence, you had managed to change positions about fourteen times, due to not being able to get comfortable. eventually settling for laying across the couch, your legs sprawled over the opposite arm rest.
just as you fell into a deep concentration a frighteningly loud clatter erupted from the porch, provoking a squeal from your lips. turning your head curiously, a dishevelled looking rafe stood with his back resting against the door, chest heaving.
“rafe? are you okay?” standing up, you made your way over to your boyfriend, worried he might be hurt.
justifying your anxious look, your eyes met his hands as they fell by his sides. dried blood and dark purple splotches patterned his knuckles. your eyes widen and turn to rafe’s face, where he avoids your gaze, knowing he’s done exactly what he said he wouldn’t. make you worry.
“hey baby, go sit back down, i’ll be through in a minute.” he orders softly, motioning with his hands for you to return to your spot on the couch. before you can say a word he rushes to the kitchen, depositing his jacket over the back of the unused armchair adjacent to the television.
unnerved by his ignorant attitude, you hesitantly choose to follow him to the kitchen, determined to make sure he’s okay.
“rafe please, tell me what happened” you spoke apprehensively, well aware that rafe doesn’t like you to ask these things, but sometimes you simply couldn’t help it.
letting out an irritated sigh, he rubs a palm across his face. “i told you to sit down y/n. i’ll be through in a minute” he almost growled through gritted teeth.
moving closer, you carefully reach to grab his hand in an attempt to help. sucking in a harsh breath, he hastily snatches his hand out of your grasp. “did you get in a fight again?” you whispered quietly, cautious of his answer.
“i’ve told you not to ask fucking questions y/n! will you please go and sit your ass down before i fucking make you.” the sheer volume of his voice is enough to leave the hairs on your spine standing. deciding against pushing further, you scurry back through to the living room, trying to hold back tears as you go.

Sooooo… I’ve been not around and it’s thanks to health again. The medical poisoning that almost killed me a couple of years ago affected more than we thought and well Covid almost killed me in October too and I didn’t recover as good as I thought.
I’ve been struggling to work with shitty health care industry and insurance that doesn’t actually care about its patients and struggling with all that the symptoms and side effects that have been fucking me over with.
I’m also on more medication than my 80year old parents combined so that’s fun and been exhausting because I’m fairly delicate so the ‘may cause’ side effects tend to hit me
…a lot
@alxndrlightwoods has been really sick at the same time (all their disabilities and health issues also got worse after getting Covid) so any spoons I’ve had have been care taking for them, Nightshade and the rest of the House. I’ve barely been able to think let alone think about writing and it really fucking sucks. It also is incredibly hard to write when your partner is in so much pain and you can barely do anything to comfort them and barely anything to help.
I also have had a really bad year with accidents, cutting a finger tip off to the bone, and a fall that required an ambulance and had me unable to drive and experiencing side effects weeks later (I’m still struggling with some of them). My anxiety and agoraphobia are through the fucking roof after some truly horrendous social experiences and I’m at the point where even I can recognize the absurdity of some of my own paranoid delusions (that does not mean I can break them).
There’s been some other stuff but I feel like I’ve already hit TDLR. I’m kinda at a breaking point mentally tho which means I’m about to hit my limit of ‘not writing’. Because not taking the time or having the energy to write is pretty shit for my mental health and I miss it a lot. Also I just got off a med and we didn’t realize how much it was contributed to my brain fog and vertigo so, that’s some more awareness back!
Also Saeth is having an absolute fucking time of it going through withdrawals of a med that wasn’t helping enough (and weaning off this drug has been horrific for them and I hate that none of this or the awful side affects we didn’t know were attitudes to it were the last three years were mentioned when the dr suggested and prescribed it).
Uh actual TDLR:
Health and bodies are fucking bullshit. Saeth would like a refund on theirs and Lumine has the worst luck and is super clumsy.

The Failure of Ted Lasso's Unconventional Politics
SOCIAL CONDITIONING:
According to Brendan Hunt, shippers interested in a second chance, mature-age romance between Ted and Rebecca were being blindly, un-self-reflexively led about by their “social conditioning”. Presumably, however, the writers who wrote Ted returning to his heteronormative family unit – as well as all the viewers who enjoyed this ending and have defended it since – are completely free of social conditioning? No social conditioning is involved in reifying the white heterosexual family unit? No social conditioning is involved in deifying parenthood, fatherhood and patriarchy at the cost of all else? There is no social conditioning involved in a conclusion that values good ole working class Americana while rejecting the big, queer, complicated, multicultural world?
KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid):
If the creators wanted to gesture to “Cheers” as a classic American sitcom, then at least learn from its example. This show worked best when it worked with familiar, beloved characters in a familiar, beloved, but confined setting. "Ted Lasso" had a near-perfect first act, doing a simple thing well. But from s2 onward, the show started straying out of bounds. The cast of characters kept expanding and contracting: people were in, people were out, characters were coming and going and changing (what was the point of that whole Zava plotline?). We had multiple workplaces and workplace dramas (grew to like Barbara tho). Episodes got long and unwieldy. Themes got convoluted as the show took a long trip, imo, up its own arse. The folksy wisdom of s1 became grating self-indulgence and cliched “moment” manufacturing.  
SUPERFICIAL UNCONVENTIONALITY:
TL employed a familiar 3-part structure but ultimately its supposedly radical, unconventional politics was not reflected in the show’s structure. Since the first act started with Ted's arrival, you could see his departure coming from a mile off. Some folks are acting like returning Ted home constitutes some super brave move by the writers that we've never seen before. But if you want to talk social conditioning expressed through narrative expectation then you really couldn't get anything more conventional than this ending.
We've seen it all before:
Act I: Fish-out-of-Water character arrives and begins winning over a dubious, dysfunctional community Act II: Bonding, hijinks, missteps, complications and development Act III: Revelations of growth. Community sadly waves goodbye to teacher they love but no longer need. Cue credits with moving song choice.
It's as cliche, conventional and predictable as it gets. And I could condescendingly accuse every viewer who enjoyed this ending as being blindly and un-self-reflexively led around by their social conditioning. But even if I'm not one of the showrunners who also played a beloved character and who is speaking on a public forum, that would be a pretty fucking shitty move. What I am saying is that the disagreement over this ending speaks to some core ideological differences currently playing out across the globe around patriarchy, feminism, queerness and privilege. There is an opportunity here to examine what we socioculturally view as “good’ and “right” and “happy”. These ideas of good, right and happy are not necessarily benign and will be inevitably reflected in and reproduced by our art.
PATRIARCHY:
In the end, “Ted Lasso” literally chose patriarchy (but what kind is the question). Just because this show was working with a familiar 3-part structure, that doesn't mean it didn't need to justify Ted's inevitable departure. For many people, his son is enough. That's it. End of conversation. Henry trumps all. And yes, this was always going to be the justification used by the series. But I think this disagreement highlights changing attitudes to modern parenting. Everyone agrees that parenting requires sacrifice: large and small, everyday and lifelong. But how much sacrifice is too much?
For some people, this was too much sacrifice. Others seem to think it was Ted's duty to sacrifice for his son his own sense of family and community, his continued health and growth, his professional fulfilment. Imo, he could have shared all of this with him but chose old-school parental sacrifice instead. I consider this kind of sacrifice to be something that culturally we’re coming to recognise as unhealthy, for both parent and child. In reality, parents are more than one thing. Parents have jobs, interests, relationships, needs, limitations and struggles. Parents are people.
In the series, Ted was established as a person: a person with a sad past, a tortured inner world, a strong desire to connect with others and, potentially, a brighter future than his past. From the beginning, his relationship with Michelle was established (and often reinforced) as over, dead, absolutely no route back in. But his relationship with his son was loving and important to him. Of course it was. He’d be a bad man and unlikeable character if it wasn’t. Even so, Henry isn’t a major or fully realised character in this show. We care about him, relate to him through Ted. He matters to us because he matters to Ted. But frankly, we are far more attached to Ted’s other adopted “children”, the relationships we have watched him develop over 3 years, than the relationship we only saw glimpses of. That’s just narrative reality. In reality, yes, Henry would and should be Ted’s first priority. This is only right. In fiction, the team at Richmond should have been the first priority of Jason and the rest of the writing team. They are the ones we want to see and want to see happy and settled.
As many frustrated viewers have stated, it's not Ted's departure that is so disheartening but how it was done. If the TL team wanted to make this choice seem like a healthy one for Ted then they needed to establish other things waiting for him in Kansas: friends, community, employment, fulfillment. As it was, literally nothing tipped the scales in favour of Kansas. There were no romantic, community or larger familial relationships to get back to. Far too much was just left to inference or imagination. Yes, we can assume that Ted has community in Kansas, that he will probably get a great job after his success in Richmond. But all the people and opportunities we would like to infer/imagine will never tip the balance towards Kansas when we consider all we KNOW is already established for him in Richmond. The homeworld and beloved characters of a show will always hold more emotional weight than anything undefined and hypothetical. If viewers were to be happy with Ted’s exit then the writers needed to take the time to lovingly define his future away from the club.
Instead, it seems like a deliberate choice to shut Ted down and perform (and I do mean “perform”) this marvelous sacrifice for his son that so many think is admirable. It’s this shutdown that is so inconsistent and confusing. Because at any time in the hour, Ted could have said to Rebecca, the Diamond Dogs and/or his team:
“Look y'all this ain't the end. We’re family now. I'll be back. I'll show y'all round Kansas anytime you wanna visit. My mom will cook a dinner that will clog your arteries. And every so often, what say we do a long-distance movie night, huh? I'll miss you all but I’ll be watching every game and I can't wait to come back and see you win the whole fucking thing!!”
Ted could have been a model of honest, expressive, emotionally forthcoming, relationship-maintaining masculinity. But nope. Not a word. Just brave male sacrifice. It's straight up patriarchal propaganda. And truth is, fathers sacrifice way less than mothers do in heterosexual parenting relationships. Mothers are generally the ones making those small, everyday sacrifices that our society rarely acknowledges or admires. But I bet this ending makes all those lazy husbands and boyfriends feel real good about themselves. I bet it makes many female partners feel all warm and fuzzy to know that even though their kids’ father won't share half the labour that goes into raising a child, when it comes time for him to perform a massive manly sacrifice for his family, he toootttaaally will. I'm sorry, what were you saying about social conditioning Mr. Hunt?
FATHER GOD or WHITE SAVIOUR?:
Patriarchy needs its Father Gods and its Mother Gods to play certain roles (tho, to paraphrase Angela Carter, both are as silly as each other.) These magical figures materialise at pivotal times then dematerialise when the narrative is over, the pivotal lessons learned. They never themselves learn or alter. Think Mary Poppins or Nanny McPhee. These figures are not entirely human, they possess an element of the supernatural. They serve others, serve a higher purpose. Nanny McPhee's appearance changes only as a reflection of her charges’ growth. Mary Poppins – the figure to whom Ted is most likened – learns to care about her kids but she doesn't engage in any self-introspection. Her duty and trajectory remains unchanged. When she arrives at her next job, she will do so exactly the same as she was.
These otherworldly mother deities are not unproblematic feminist figures themselves. But creating a male, fatherhood deity becomes even more problematic when he is white, cis-het and pretty able. Ted arrives to teach all the black and brown lost boys, to unite the disconnected women, liberate the closeted gays and to update the bumbling English gentlemen (there is, I feel, a special relish in these American bros educating their former colonisers on modern manhood). Here, we start to stray into white saviour territory. Frighteningly, this kind of patriarchal demi-god implies that white men are the most progressive figures in a society, they are in the political vanguard, championing the needs of the disconnected and downtrodden. White men are the ultimate source of wisdom, kindness and progress. It represents them as a group as progressive, when in reality the attitudes and politics of this group represent conservative politics and regressive values that impede the progress of every other marginalised group. If we buy this myth about white men, then we are more likely to accept what they say to us from their positions of power and privilege as right, wise, kind and progressive, even when it is the opposite.
So, if you are going to put forward a white man as a model of progressive politics, then you need to embrace unconventionality, not just superficially but down to your bones. “Ted Lasso” tried to structure s2 and s3 differently but just ended up making a mess of allusions and ideologies that did not connect, cohere, develop or conclude. In fact, sometimes they straight-up contradicted.  Employing a magical 3-part structure and making a bunch of meaningless allusions to well-known classics does not another classic make. They did not engage with any of these classics (“Cheers”, “Mary Poppins”, “The Wizard of Oz”) in any deep or critical way. Classics may be loved but they are not faultless. If you simply repeat what has already been done, even in celebrated classics, you may just end up repeating mistakes someone already made for you to learn from. TL repeats the central feminist problem of parental deities in “Mary Poppins”, just as it repeats the irreconcilable ending of “The Wizard of Oz”.
LIMINALITY:
Both “The Wizard of Oz” and “Mary Poppins” take us into strange liminal worlds. “Ted Lasso” could be read similarly, except that Ted doesn't take any magic home with him. In fact, he seems to actively forget it, reverting to the Ted he was before leaving. No queerness or feminism follows him home, no traces of the various cultures he's come into contact with. The liminal remain liminal with no indication that these two worlds will communicate or can integrate. The non-white, female, queer and otherwise bizarre are left outside of Ted’s squeaky clean hometown heteronormativity. And I really don’t think I have to explain why that is so deeply irresponsible. Because again, this is a writing choice.
That epilogue at the end was brief but imagine if it included more detail: Ted texting with Rebecca, or facetiming with Roy, Jamie giving Henry advice. They didn't take the time to honour and continue these relationships or integrate these two worlds. They didn't suggest that responsible fatherhood could entail many things, could look different. “Sacrifice,” they said profoundly. “Fatherhood,” they murmured mistily. “Patriarchy” was their final word to which this feminist says, “Bullshit.”
PRIVILEGE:  
I only did one film unit at uni but it really doesn't take much to deconstruct the absurdly inconsistent ending of “The Wizard of Oz”. It was 1939, the end of the Great Depression and the start of another devastating world war. People needed to be convinced that their small ramshackle b/w lives surrounded by loved ones were stable, noble even. They already had everything they needed. They didn't need Oz. They didn't need bright futures, big adventures or exciting opportunities. Monochrome Kansas was all a good American should ever hope for. There was danger in difference, safety at home.
Well, here we are in late-stage capitalistic hell, having come through (???) a pandemic and it takes a special sort of privilege to say to an audience: you don't need money or opportunity or community, they won't make your life any better than before. Be happy with the muddy and mundane. Be happy with what you've got. Turn away from larger community, greater knowledge, continued stability, and isolate yourself in a bubble of you and yours. Look, it's not a sweet or familiar narrative conclusion but the truth is, Ted’s, Henry’s and Michelle’s lives would have all been better if they'd relocated to London. Do these dolts have any idea what teachers (in the USA esp) are currently going through? How overworked and underpaid and undervalued these people are? The burnout rates?? Ted didn't have to take the highest salary Rebecca offered but, had the writers been willing to put in the effort, a more unconventional, more modern ending to this series could have been crafted.
Not that I'm surprised they took the easy road to glory. All indications from the beginning of s3 suggested that this would be the rather predictable conclusion. Indications do not, however, constitute development. This team had the opportunity to write a new ending to an old story, one that incorporated queer, feminist and anti-capitalist values. One that defined a different, new version of patriarchy. They didn't even think to. In their white boi hubris, they just assumed that they and tradition knew best. Considering how many viewers would be struggling right now for food, housing, employment and opportunity, an ending in which Ted turns down an opportunity like this hits a false, rather virtue-signally note. Literally, nobody would have come out worse. Everybody would have benefitted from Ted staying in Richmond. Which means this decision was made purely to manufacture a “moment” that celebrates patriarchy.
ANTICAPITALISM: There’s a reason they had Rebecca offer Ted the biggest salary in his industry. They wanted to make it NotAboutTheMoney! Ted doesn’t say so (doesn’t say anything) but, because this narrative idea is so fucking familiar, we can assume the thoughts behind his oh-so-sage expression are: “Well, shucks now, boss, I rightly do appreciate the kindly offer but that there kid o’ mine is more important to me than any cash you could put in my silly lil handy-hands.” Good Lord. The cringe is real. I really, really can’t with this mighty, manly silence and sacrifice. My problem isn’t that Ted values his son over money (not that it has to be a choice because that money could benefit Henry and his mother, who is owed a heck of a lot of child support esp since she’s been raising their son solo for 3 years). Again, that is how it should be. My problem is that the show actively established Richmond as an anticapitalist landscape, then suddenly at the eleventh hour, tried to walk that back and imply it was actually a capitalistic landscape (in contrast to homey ole Kansas).  
Capitalism teaches us to sniff at money. We've been told by the monied and privileged that it won't buy happiness. (This is of course, utter bullshit because money can buy you a hell of a lot of wellbeing, security and opportunity). At the beginning of the series, Rebecca Welton stands for this principle. And by the end, she has found a way to use her extreme wealth and privilege in an ethical way. She gives it away. She supports others. She lets Sam out of a promotional contract, she funds Keeley’s business, she sells half the club to fans. The most obvious example of Rebecca’s anticapitalist politics is her confrontation with all the richy riches who want to take soccer away from the people. Here, she becomes an anticapitalist leader, one who has been positively influenced by the anticapitalistic politics of The Lasso Way.
The Lasso Way is anticapitalistic in that it stresses that winning isn’t everything. You try but you try together. You play hard, not in order to beat the other guy, but to be the best (player, teammate, man) you can be. There are no individual stars, only collaborative team players. You give due credit to others, the team, the support staff. The club functions well when it functions as a unit. Over the course of the series, it becomes a commune that protects and nurtures its citizens. A socialist haven that values people over profits, prizes and meaningless acquisition. The Greyhounds don’t want to win the league for the money or the top spot. Winning the whole fucking thing is an expression of their regard for each other, the game and the new, kinder ethos they all now live by.
Because they spent 3 years establishing all of this (during a time when we really needed to hear it), there is something v disingenuous about them then having Rebecca offer to go to extremes to pay Ted more money than any man should have. It is not consistent with the show’s themes, the ethos of the club, Rebecca’s attitude or what she knows of Ted. She knows it’s not about the money for Ted. It never was. It’s an act of desperation on her part, but why did they need to make her ridiculous, desperate, so inept in this moment? Hannah plays it beautifully but I can’t help but feel this is part of them diminishing Richmond, (re)casting it as excessively capitalistic in relation to Kansas so that they can turn Ted’s decision into a simple Money < Son choice. Because if it is a Money < Son choice then he has no dilemma. There is no other choice. He goes home to his son. The problem is, they’ve just spent 3 years proving that it is not a simple Money < Son dilemma. Money was never actually part of this equation. Ted left to give Michelle space, to find himself, to find a new life and community, to extend himself beyond what he knew as normal. As such, there is now far more than just money for Ted in Richmond (which tbf, Rebecca also points out, but I still think this point stands).  
The other major problem is that, here in the real world, middle-class America (which btw does not exist) is far from being a haven of peace and prosperity comparable to nowhere in the world. This is a lazy cliché than any amount of travel should quickly disabuse you of. And yet in Kansas, we are supposed to believe, despite everything happening in America (referenced by Henry in ep 3.01), Ted will find community, opportunity and stability. To pull off this ending, they needed to establish a Kansas unlike the one currently in existence. This is what they did with Richmond. The UK is no better than the US currently, but they nevertheless established an ideal society, one with values very contrary to the world we now live in. Is it any wonder that people saw the desertion of this world as a rejection of feminist, queer and anticapitalist values? Right now, more than ever, people want to believe in a society that isn't all about triumph, success, competition, acquisition, individualism and aggression. They want to believe in a society that emphasises community, values people, shares wealth, offers opportunity, encourages difference, improves lives and moves onward, forward, in circumspect but ethical steps. These themes were all there in the series. They just weren't utilised when it came time to shape its conclusion.

john hartnell is a little harder because i've already decided in my heart that this daguerreotype is 100% undeniably him even though the chances of it are actually probably very low. in actuality. but i have tried to match up the daguerreotype "hartnell" with the mummy hartnell and i do think it's a super close match.... i just wish mr. daguerreotype hadn't tucked his hair over his ear so i could compare the shape of john's ear.... but anyways there is actually one bg dude from terror amc who i have also kind of decided could be jarts!!! he was one of the dudes who voted to stay on terror and die there instead of out on the shale before everyone abandoned ship... he's got the right haircut for it <3 but also i think rob james-collier could be kind of a slay for jartnell if we can get him back to his downton abbey prime

and then thomas morgan hasn't really made his debut in the beechey boys cinematic universe (yet. chapter two still cooking......) and we also haven't exhumed HIM so this is really just like throwing a dart and calling it good. i did draw a little version of him here tho . so do with this as you will i guess. me when i'm just making up whatever the fuck. he should be kind of sickly looking as well though because my dude was going THROUGH it (+ he had one million pre existing conditions) before he died.

and for like... henry & thomas theyre much more nebulous in my brain..... maybe i'll try and draw them later!? i did do fanart here of henry tho but i fear it's got a heavy amc casting influence on what he looked like.
real life facts: thomas (5'9") is 2 inches taller than henry (5'7"), henry probably had broad/strong arms and shoulders due to climbing around in the rigging for his whole career, both of them had brown hair, and thomas was older than henry enough that he was probably starting to get salt-and-pepper grey during the miserable stressful parts of the expedition. henry's id papers describe his complexion as "sallow" and based on how many captains said he had a shitty/indifferent/bored attitude while working leads me to believe my king had chronic resting bitch face + looked vaguely exhausted and pale and unwell even when he was healthy.
also in my heart amc nailed it with giving thomas curly hair tho... charlie kelly is cute to meeeeee... unfortunately he isn't 40 years old enough. no source no facts anyways i just want to believe in curly girl armitage supremacy. ALSOOOO in my heart (again) henry has sailor tattoos-- HOLD FAST on his knuckles for good luck in the ropes + two swallows on his chest under each collarbone to mark his 10,000th mile at seas. i forgot what i was talking about. i think do think k*vin g*thrie's face was honestly too conventionally attractive for henry though. i just know my man was mid as fuck. frown lines from scowling, ink stains on his fingers at all times, never worn sunblock ever, thinks splashing water on his face counts as moisturizing etc.... MY henry peter peglar is pretty weather-beaten and looks like a mean cunt and sometimes he snarls at people like a badly trained dog. amen.

helloooo as usual sorry for taking a few days to answer i'm horrible. ok mmmm see i’m not great with writing and i don’t have all my thoughts perfectly sorted out but. in short.
she does have the legendarium sort of it’s just not like the show. it doesn’t summon fairytales creechers bc i find it silly it just holds any type of spell and magic and allows you to use it regardless of your level and skills if it makes sense
then the deal with selina in general is that she’s an earth fairy of snakes with one mom from earth and one mom from tír na nóg. specifically i made selina’s earth mom be from southern italy like meeeeee bc the old ladies in my town (my great grandma) do a weird pagan-christian type of Magic and selina gets to mess around with that too besides her fairy magic. she grows up to be a bit of a Hoarder of different magic types and techniques or whatever you'd wanna call it. whenever the wizards start hunting down the earth fairies for good selina is orphaned (haven't decided if earth mom dies too or not tbh we'll figure it out later) and gets stuck in tír na nóg w the other fairies. yea i stole icy’s s8 tragic backstory and gave one to selina instead bc she needs like Anything at all. eldora’s like a guardian fairy and her role sort of is to take care of the younglings so she takes selina under her wing especially bc selina gets like super super ambitious and is obsessed w learning more and getting stronger. that's how she ends up getting the legendarium from eldora and it fits perfectly w selina’s collectionist attitude abt magic if you will fjwifoafk. as she immerses herself in her studies she grows resentful and angry at her parents for letting themselves get killed which is really just being angry at herself for being a little kid who couldn't help. when the revenge fairies start arming up she joins them and it cracks eldora's heart a bit. they don't let her in any actual fight from s4 - she's still young and the earth fairies have already lost so many of their youngs - and it makes her bitter. even more so when they eventually repent. she's now convinced that fairies are weak and good for nothing - her mom died and her sisters in arms mellowed out - so when tír na nóg is finally freed and she can go study in magix she decides to hop ship and enroll in torrenuvola becoming a witch. the legendarium helps, it lets her use spells from magic types that aren't her own, of levels that she hasn't yet reached, so she does extremely well for herself as a brand new witch.
so the trix notice her, pick her up, bring her into fights w the winx & roxy in s5 blablabla but she Does get redeemed and she Does attempt to transition back to fairy and join alfea (make it a narrative abt Accepting Yourself For Who You Are <3 lmaonfjsidiw) but it doesn't really work out and she gets stuck as some type hybrid. she has to re-do her first year so even tho she's a year older than roxy they end up in the same class and in fact not only that but they also end up being roommates bc the winx don't fully trust her on her own so they pull some strings to get them stuck together which is ANNOYING bc they DON'T GET ALONG but they'll get better w it :^)

I do find it hilarious that this hasn't gained any traction and I actually think it's bc all Lando fans have been here before mANY times with his own quotes being misappropriated. if we went off what ad revenue based journalism says then Lando wants to personally and intimately destroy like 75% of the grid at any given moment.
I do laugh tho bc Autosport just got a big red strike against their name by Oscar's very protective team. not a great idea since it looks like they've already alienated a lot of the grid and don't get many exclusives.
but this is actually a really good example to use going forward since we're bound to get even more as the years go on...

to break down the notes in the images, the only quote from Oscar is that he personally doesn't like to tear himself down publicly but that he's very hard on himself privately. that's the only "scoop" lol. this dude at Autosport actually got Oscar on the phone and decided to bin most of the interview in favor of singling out something he could twist into a clickbait headline.
and the tweet links to a content aggregator website that itself has pulled from another article which is almost completely the Autosport guy's personal opinion about Lando and Oscar with the Oscar quote (in which he only refers to himself) and then some old quotes about Alpine and Mark Webber to stretch the ads out further.
as I said, Lando fans are used to this. he once said in this interview how lost and down he felt during his first season comparing himself with how competent Carlos was - easy as piss to suddenly decide that Carlos was of no help to Lando's mental state - and maybe harmed it!! - and that they weren't as close friends as everyone hoped! and whenever Lando's said how calm and down to earth Oscar is compared to Daniel and that Oscar and Daniel are complete opposites, super easy to decide that he's shading Daniel and they're not as close as everyone hoped! except he's fully still friends with both of them and that adults can hold opinions and also manage to NOT have some crazy subtext of drama underneath it wowwwwww
the crazy thing is that Oscar is saying exactly what a ton of Lando fans - as well as Martin Brundle and Jenson Button - have been saying about Lando's attitude toward himself during the 2023 season. I'm personally on the fence with my feelings but the popular sympathetic opinion is that Lando isn't helping himself at all with public self-flagellation and that it's only fanning the flames of people who already have it out for him. so it's truly a stretch to turn that one quote into 'ooohhhhh he's being mean to Lando' when Oscar famously avoids all public conflict after the Alpine drama and also is not wrong for not wanting his teammate and possibly friend to shit on himself so much ??
the point of sports journalism - outside maybe one or two sources who don't want to burn bridges with the 20 guys in F1 - is to create drama and generate engagement. I took the hit and loaded those pages but that's all the ad revenue I'm going to give shitty websites for at a while lgfljahfa
this is why I ignore everything except authorized sources who either legally have to run everything past the driver's reps first or who actually put up full content and not cherry picked quotes. and in Oscar's and Lando's cases anyway, that's what they both want their fans to do.

re: Monika Bad Person Something I think about alot with Monika is how, fundementally, she is a good person but good people are capable of being bad, as we see in base game. I do think though that Side stories shows us where are actions from base game came from, that they werent from nowhere but rather its her natural flaws taken to their extreme in an extreme situation. Like one of the biggest flaws about Monika is her need for control, we see this plain as day in side stories. While we know she means well there, Respect shows how her need for control and for things to go with her vision can end up causing issues. She also in general has a "oh I can fix it!" attitude that can clash with Natsuki and Yuri. And I think whats so fascinating about it is the fact that those traits are also in base game. But the problem with base game monika is that shes in a completely different situation and thus the flaws she so typically falls back on are used in even greater effect. She needs to control the situation so she can escape and just be the ONE for once. She makes a plan and follows it and thinks that itll 100% work in her favor because it HAS to. She "fixes" things in a way that SHE thinks is right. Another thing with her issues with control is how she feels the need to 'control' how others feel about her, in the sense that she is VERY good at hiding her feelings and her thoughts and putting up a mask. (Honestly it what makes her such a great foil to Sayori but thats something else) I think a thing is when writing Monika is alot of stories are post game, so post when she realizes she fucked up BIG time. But even then, I think that when monikas flaws should still show up. Shes someone who sticks in her own head and goes with her own plans, and in a post game setting it can appear as her thinking shes helping the others, but she just isnt because she refuses to just talk or ask. Actually one of my favorite examples of a post game story that shows Monika still being very flawed, and shows how her trauma can manifest is on tumblr! Doki Doki Literature Girls has such a good Monika because even though she trying to do better, she still has that nihilism from before, she still tries and do things her way, she still yearns for love from the outside even tho she knows it can never happen. But theres now her acknowledging that she cares about the others and thus theres alot of learning for her to go through.
This is a long ass ramble, I just love writing Monika and her mindset, shes so *shakes her like a soda can*. Also wanna say your art is super good, thank you for the gay people. (Also side thing because I wanna be silly, Total if you see this cause this will probably pass your fyp, hiiiii, you know who this is :))

this is a comment i made a WHILE back, crazy how you start this ask with such a similar opinion
the base game is basically giving a control freak peefectionist the power to control the entire universe. Or, the illusion of control anyway. I think the reason she is more chill in Act 1 is bc she herself thinks she is in charge. The more time passes, the more she slowly understands that even if she can control every part of the game, she cannot control who the player chooses. And not being in control of the one thing she wants, talking to a real person, kinda pivots her to Act 2. Also, she does in fact think that she knows best in every way. Very arrogant of her, but while i do think it is kind of her ego talking it also mostly again falls under her need to be in control of situations. Monika's relationship with control is so interesting and complex that i can't talk about it without slowly going "hhhhhsggggghh monika character cool :("
Most fics do take place after the game so i get that, by this time, Monika has had her character development so her acting shitty towards the girls doesn't really make sense. I will say though becoming a better person takes time, its not as simple as "Wow, something showed me i was being an asshole, i won't ever act like that again". So, having her accidentally fall back into her previous attitude would not be that out of character. Plus, her being way harder on herself bc of the guilt? And maybe do some self sabotaging little moves? Yeah.
Haven't seen doki doki literature girls, but i have heard good things about it. Maybe I'll check it out!

it was fine i was super sweaty all day tho and ofc there was drama abt cash tips. bc lowkey some of the girls just didnt tip out one of our coworkers because she “isnt a bartender so she shouldnt get as much of the tip pool” but even IF we accept that shitty premise they gave her NOTHING. not “less” str8 up didnt tip her out. anyway. i am really mad about it bc thats such a shitty attitude to have AND its wrong! its just plain wrong. like for u to say “oh well we dont make a lot of cash tips here plus u cant mix drinks so u dont get as many tips” like. she worked the whole snack window she was giving ppl snacks and cans of beers and water and soda all day PLUS our taps were busted so they couldnt even pour drafts so that meant she was doing ALL the beer transactions. also last week apparently someone Personally Handed this poor girl a $20 bill- which we get to personally pocket mind u. and my LEAST favorite coworker said she had to split it. which is not true. like. i hate that shit its so petty its so ugly plus i KNOW that woman is pocketing every single tip she gets, no splitting at all. like yeah we dont get many cash tips but thats also be we get guaranteed gratuity on our paychecks so shut up and give the poor girl $5 jesus fuck

Skitt is a repressed traumatized clown amphibian, Olive is a sweet jackalope who acts like an asshole as a defense mechanism, and Ena is a chaotic little shithead w a short fuse, whos actually secretly the mom friend. I like to put them in2 situations in my head and then never write said situations down. Also theyre all aspec and trans.

-a mishmash of basically any amphibian features i think r cool! It is also a clown! Isnt that silly? Well its actually 4 trauma reasons. Lol. lmao.

A little skrunkly autismic sourpuss. He wishes that he cud b more sincere w people sometimes, but every past attempt has been met w people shutting them down, in 1 way or another. The only person in the world he feels even mildly comfortable around is Ena (and later on in the story, Skitt).
-acts like an asshole around most people bc theyre used 2 being seen as one. And by asshole, i mean a little quiet, sulking, wet cat in a corner of the room who makes angy faces at any1 who invades their space.
-mute! This is bc bunnies do not have vocal chords. Communicates thru sign language and annoyed noises. Screams when overstimulated. Yes, bunnies can scream, just not using vocal chords. There r also other sounds they can make! (mostly annoyed sounds. He does purr as well! Just like a real bunny)
-very in2 music. Plays the harmonica and other woodwind instruments that r easy 2 steal. Can they play good? Uhm. havent decided yet actually.
-has a sort of heart shaped facial scar and a broken antler he got from entirely mundane causes (antler is permanently broke, dont question how that works bc i dunno).
-very incredibly touch averse, only tolerates Ena’s touch. theyre also fat and very fluffy! Great 4 cuddling! But he wont let u. Sorry.
Ena:
Money gremlin!!! Chaotic anarchist motherfucker!!! Probably owes u money! Is currently being gay doing crime. In this world, 1 does not have to pay/steal 2 survive, but Ena does it anyways 2 fuck shit up and stir the pot.
-escaped from a shitty orphanage w Olive.
-horrible anger issues. If Olive is a sourpuss, Ena is a bomb waiting 4 an excuse 2 go off. This is bc in the orphanage, they learned that no 1 wud listen 2 them unless they scratched and fought and clawed and bit and punched. (and shocked!). Shes generally chill tho, just, its easy 2 get on her bad side.
-sorta the therapist friend, bc its good at telling ppl what they want 2 hear. Her charismatic attitude also helps when scamming people.
-uses prosthetics! In this world, aquatic animals r given the ability 2 stay on land 4 extended periods of time via prosthetics! Want 2 know more? Ask me :>
-basically blind. Electric eels have awful eyesight, and shes no exception! She can only see bright lights and colors. They use electrolocation 2 get around. (please ask me what it is if u dont know, i am v happy 2 infodump abt anything oc related!)

Skitt has a triangular dress with purple and yellow split colors, and purple leggings. Pointy, slender legs. A long pointed yellow hat with a little green thingy on top (idk what to call it). Blue eyes with froglike pupils. Minty-green, short, curly hair. A classic clown makeup look (off-white facepaint, a clown nose, and pennywise-esque makeup lines going from the bottom of his eyebrows to the sides of his mouth.
Olive is a jackalope with short, olive/forest green hair swooping over one eye. His eyes are the same color as his hair. Most of their fur is darkish brown, while his belly, his inner thighs, and lower left arm is beige. their right arm, lower legs, and the top of their ears are black. Only wearing black arm warmers thanks to sensory issues.
Ena is a vaguely pirate-themed girlie. Dark brown skinned, with grey arms and greyish legs. Big thicc tail. Mostly black hair. Tattered black shorts and an even more tattered, dark green crop top. Has red eyes and a red sash tied around its waist. Lots of little spots all over their skin. lazy-eyed.

she's a werewolf she's aroace she stalks people on accident. she didn't know what a crime was until the police went after her. her best friends are a supervillan and a failed actress. she thinks she would make a good detective (she wouldn't). she's fun and friendly and sweet but still a fully thought out character. she runs away from her abusive home to find her sister and in the process finds a whole new family. she even takes down the government.
Pris is a short, pale girl with  black hair styled to look like wolf ears. she has brown eyes with diagonal red pupils and a bit of a snaggle tooth on one side.

okay so for my fave it's actually none of the boys I usually scream about in your askbox but instead... it's Nami. She has been probably my all time favorite character since way back in the day 20 ish years ago when I first started to watch one piece. What I love about her is that she's gone through sooo much bad stuff and she just keeps going on. She has a kind heart to those who deserve it, and is ruthless to those that don't. I also love that while she's not a super duper strong fighter, she shows other strengths. She's smart but still likes to look cute and take care of herself. Also love when she cries for others, it's really nice to see a character that has emotions sometimes but is still a totally cool character the rest of the time.
I don't self ship only bc she's probably too good for me (I'd let her rob me tho)
I legit used to have basically a Nami shrine for figures just because she just has so many amazing ones. I cut back but she definitely has the most on my shelf.
Though I have to say, my favorite thing about having her as my fave is the look on guys' faces when I tell them that. I can always feel them trying to sus out if I just think she's cool or if I wanna date her. One guy told me once 'ah yes every man's waifu' and I was like nah she's mine and the look on his face was priceless.
(To talk about some of the boys quick, Ace was one of my early faves bc he was a cutie but also so sweet. Law my teenage self really liked the emo vibes, but I've grown to like him more for his smarts *and his shitty attitude LOL*. Marco I love his demeanor and how he's lost so much but he still faces the world and does what he can. He's so loyal too.)

Everyone on the crew has certainly Seen Some Shit™ and been through even more than that. I think that Luffy not only brings them together, but also kind of helps them in heal. (And helping them heal helps Luffy, in my opinion).
But I do love how much Nami, of all the crew, changes. She has no trust, no space for friendship to the point that she alienated her entire town. She loathes Pirates, and then becomes one - I think when she left with Luffy and the others, at least at first, she didn't consider herself a pirate, but more like a navigator with an unsavory crew.
Her story has certainly been an interesting one.

Pmmm has just, never recovered from ppl falsely calling it a super deep deconstruction of the magical girl genre when its a like, modestly deep tragedy using magical girl conventions to tell its story. As well as the pmmm knock offs. Vast majority of bad faith criticisms of the show have extremely reactionary origins and barely even attached to the actual text of the show. While it appears actual pmmm fans have revisited the source material and appreciate the show for what it is, obviously the haters wouldn't, thus make their arguments primarily based around second hand info and years old fandom discourse.
YEAH thats what it seems like to me as someone who only got into it recently. it annoys me tho bc that attitude is why i didnt check it out for the longest time. the most damning things people accuse it for is stuff i cant really even find a source for, like the "the writer wanted you to think the girls are selfish bitches" thing.
also the whole "it inspired a lot of shitty knock offs" thing is a dumb argument for everything. its dumb for shrek and its dumb for madoka

hi! thank you so much for the ask :) SORRY it’s a wee bit long haha,,,
i actually have a lot of different wips that i mentally rotate through, so, in no particular order here’s a list of some of my favorite ocs, why & what wips they come from:
hyacinthus shrapnel — paramour
there’s a lot of reasons why i love hya and tbh i could be here all day ranting about him however i will shorten it to simply he ticks all of my boxes for a blorbo lol. i love his shitty attitude and his inability to talk about his feelings and how unapologetic he is. he’s just chefs kiss perfect shite dude.
amon — paramour
coming as no surprise here, hya’s counterpart. amon also ticks blorbo boxes but also i love how he and hya balance each other out so well. and i also really enjoy how he’s more than meets the eye; he’s a very multifaceted dude and i like how he is so acutely aware of how other people perceive him and uses it to his advantage. also, i love that even tho he seems more polite and put together he is constantly brimming with rage :)

haven’t actually talked about this wip much on this new iteration of my blog however for the uninitiated tcol is my giant ass fantasy from the ground up wip. i’m talking magic, mythology, etc etc. i’ve had this wip for quite some time. clear is one of the mcs of the main story and tbh i’m just. obsessed with him not even joking that’s my beloved boy. similarly to amon i enjoy how multifaceted he is. how he’s both a ruthless killing machine but an anxiety ridden sweetheart at the same time. i love how hard he tries even tho it’s not an easy path like he’s so hard working and he fights for what he wants and that’s just a rare thing tbh. he literally goes against his entire upbringing because he WANTS to do good and i love that for him.
lath — tcol historical
INSANE about lath actually. i say “historical” because technically a lot of his story takes place hundreds of years before the events of actual tcol but he does show up in the main story bc he’s a guardian tm :) i can’t properly express how much i love this dude. again, super blorbo material. i love how he’s fierce and unyielding and just kinda a weird guardian angel bird dude that will fight anybody. his relationship with his best friend/sword ensio also means an INSANE amount to me and tbh it’s a wonder i don’t froth at the mouth about it on a daily basis. honestly talking about tcol has brought it back into my headspace so xD that’s kind of how wips work for me.
darren de leon — vampires don’t take road trips
our mc! favorite boy! i love darren bc he’s just such a mood tbh. tired, no aspirations, just coasting through life. main goals is to be around people he loves and chill. i also admire his emotional maturity and how fiercely he loves his family and friends :’)
nyseah nicoletti — NAD (*placeholder title*)
my favorite she her 🥲 her tired not here for the bullshit vibes are immaculate but i love how she’s also so so caring and loving despite the bs she has and is currently going through. true mom friend energy. she’s also a badass and i love her resilience :)
i do have a lot more favorites than these but these ones especially tend to be at the top of my brain!
as to characters i’ve made like myself i have a few? generally speaking i would say that all my characters contain some pieces of me and the things i feel or value or do. but ones that are deadass like me in some way would be:
jake & calvin (purple haze) but this is 100% on purpose. purple haze in general is a wip that’s whole purpose is to help me work through the bs of first being a young adult and the specific circumstances i dealt with at that time. so not only are they like me they share similarities to my situation too. it’s only fair since they’re my oldest ocs :)
darren de leon (vdtrt) but mostly unintentional lol. i’m just pretty laid back and lowkey aspirationless like he is.
jenna magboo (the liminal space series) is somewhat purposeful but in a… different way? i’m autistic & was raised a girl so tbh jenna has a lot of mannerisms and likeness to myself when i was younger. jenna isn’t the same age as younger me or anything, but it’s almost like an alternate reality “if i kept going down this particular path i’d probably be like her”. so, as such bc she’s based off of me (but younger but older?) she and i have some similarities but we’re definitely very different.

I think she def had her moments just like any other teenager, except she had a platform. I’ve seen her be plenty of sweet and kind but also it wouldn’t shock me if she did get annoyed and said something yk. I’m sure she’s great now tho, I think we can all admit we could be a little shitty when we were teens.
when i followed her i saw her be nice and really sweet like 99% of the time as well. maybe she had an attitude at time but who didn’t as a teen. also i felt like that was very much the vibe of emo/scene tumblr. people being super unfiltered with their thoughts compared to other platforms. and like you said it was yeaaaaaars ago.
no literally lmao and I’m sure I also probably had an attitude as well on emo/scene tumblr too in 2013. that’s just how internet culture was at the time and nobody ever took it too seriously.

sukuna with a very non-confrontational/introverted s/o (this finna be OOC yall, tbh much like all my other content 😔)
he usually drives but the one time you do, sukuna ends up butting heads with a shitty driver that nearly crashes into yall - oh he would cuss them out so bad. 
if you happen to be driving next to them afterwards;
“Y/n, roll your window down-“ “No- it’s okay-“ “Y/n, roll your window down”
always watching carefully for the first few moments whenever someones showing any kinda attitude towards you, and then intercepts at the right timing - aint nobody talkin to his lover like that
youre too afraid to tell the waiter abt being given the wrong order? he’s got you. afraid of making phone calls? be not afraid, calling does not bother him in the slightest. will also tell everybody else to shut the fuck up if youve got something to say and theyre not listening
yea he’d prolly sigh and tell you that “you’re helpless” but u know he does this shit for u anyway,, develops a sixth sense of telling whether somethings wrong bc u never say whats on your mind smhh hes been observing closely ever since he started liking you
truly doesnt understand why youd rather sit and suffer in silence than tell somebody abt the damn problem but ig thats all the more excuse to always keep an eye on you lmao
sometimes maybe he takes it a bit far tho, like punching someone in the face bc they did/said smth mean to you (kinda rare tho bc uhm who’d wanna mess with someone that has a scary tattooed man looking over them) - you dont like causing a scene so obviously this was a distressing experience, maybe he realises hes not using the best solution when he sees you crying abt it tho
yall talk it out and he tones it down a bit lol i say a bit bc we all know this man cant tolerate bs from others LMAO
he finds it intriguing that you do an almost 180 indoors in private - more cheeky and playful, unafraid of opening up now that youre comfortable in the little bubble you and him have. i think he’d also like that its a side of yourself you show only to a select number of ppl, and he’s one of those people
sometimes, he does get frustrated however, simply bc he just cant relate to these fears of what he thinks are just mundane things, no biggies an argument occurs at one point and he raises his voice at you but feels bad abt it afterwards (this man would probably say smth hella mean in the spur of the moment too tbh) and apologises in his own way after you stop looking at him in the eye for days
highkey wouldnt leave you tho bc he loves you and he cant stand the thought of you closely relying on someone other than him oop (like “ha??? why are THEY ordering your super specific bubble tea order for you?? thats MY job”)
anyway i see that ppl agree that sukunas highly extroverted and shit but imo? i dont think this man would particularly like mingling with lots of people and dealing with crowds (would he even like people in general??) so i think that indoor dates would work well with him haha
