Tabby's Writing Game: Day 27

Super Saturday!!

You maybe have been expecting superheroes, but no, you get (semi-)supernatural. Enjoy a snippet of my witchrry fic! (which actually has no Harry in said snippet, but oh well lol)

Louis spent about two hours in the café, editing his nearly-finished third novel. The ending was still eluding him, but in the meantime, he could at least edit through the majority of the text, catching typos, inconsistencies and plot holes. He would have to do it all again after he sent his manuscript to his editor, but the more he did now, the less he’d have to do later. (In theory.) Only when the sky began to dim and the streetlights began to switch on did Louis look up from his laptop screen. Harry disliked it when Louis stayed out past dark on his own, especially in winter, and Louis disliked making them worry, so he finished his last sips of lukewarm Yorkshire and packed his laptop back into his bag. While returning his teacup and saucer to the front counter, he pulled out one of Harry’s travel mugs from the special pocket in his bag and requested an order of their favourite mint tea with milk to go. Once it was prepared and paid for, Louis wished Niall, the barista and one of Harry’s friends, a good evening before he left, heading back to his and Harry’s home. On his way, an interesting kitten joined him, meowing once to announce their presence before falling silent, simply walking beside him on elegant little cat feet. The kitten was interesting not only in manner, but also in fur pattern; they were mostly black, but their right ear was grey, their left front paw and tail-tip were white, and from what Louis could see, they had a white splotch on their chest, too.  Now, Louis had seen some interesting cats in his time, seeing as Anne had a penchant for adopting oddly-patterned kitties (though only one of them, to Louis’ knowledge, was her Familiar), but this kitten seemed special to Louis, though he couldn’t quite figure out how. However, the warmth that bloomed in his chest was both ubiquitous and pleasant, the small joy of having a companion for the journey, even if said journey was only a short trip. The Interesting Kitten walked with him up until the front gate of his and Harry’s fenced front yard, where they stopped and began to lick their white paw. Louis crouched down beside them and gave them a little scratch behind their black ear. “This is where I live with my partner, Harry,” he told them. “Thank you for walking with me, little kitty. I hope you have a good night,” he wished them politely. He stood up, smiling at them one last time, and unlatched the gate. However, when he turned back to wave goodbye, the kitten had seemingly vanished into thin air.  Absently, Louis thought, Huh, just like Shadow.
