Ok so I made this silly AU but cringe culture is DEAD and I’m spiteful so:
Monster High x Danganronpa. I’m imagining two scenarios:
Either the group that experimented on Izuru also experimented on the other students (some against their will I presume) in the name of despair,
Or that they were all just born like monsters. I’m preferring the first version though, since it actually adds drama and conflict, though this second idea is also good considering how wildly their backstories could change.
So far all I’ve come up with is that:
Monokuma and the other kubz +monomi/usami became/are human. And still being assholes (with the exception of the latter)
Everyone else is a monster. Whether that’s because they were simply born that way or transformed into monsters by the group stated before (I’ll call them Lovers Of Despair for times sake) is up to the people who wanna divulge into this AU. Speaking of, they also have to hide their monsterous identities from the public, because Jim is afraid of the public response (and apparently rightly so considering that one of the movies involved humans getting freaked TF out and policemen + civilians trying to kill the monsters). Some students disagreed with him, especially Kyoko, but they listened to him anyway because it was the safest option.
^^^
Adding onto that— I decided that Makoto is a Frankenstein, Kyoko is a vampire, Byakuya is a werewolf, Toko/Jill are mummies, Aoi is a zombie, and Yasuhiro is a Sea Monster. (For the last two I considered reversing them cause it’d make more sense but I thought it’d be funnier if Yasuhiro got the sea monster attributes and Hina always argues with him about “I SHOULD’VE BEEN THE SEA MONSTER THIS ISNT FAIR” in groaning form of course lol)
I might do sprite edits later actually…
Anyway yea that’s it lol, I did my best
Ohhhh I haven't seen Monster High on forever but I do remember some stuff from it (mostly just the petty school stuff lol). And honestly I could see the students being turned into monsters more by Hope's Peak Academy than by Monokuma... We all know their instance on human experimentation cofcofIzuru.
Mostly I love the idea of werewolf Byakuya, because he's always so uptight and fancy so how would he deal with suddenly being covered by fur and having urges to do wild shit? It would be hilarious. Especially since now he and Kyoko can continue the long standing rivalry between vampires and werewolves. Also I feel really bad for Aoi, being a very active zombie sounds like it would really suck.
Also, you only included the survivors in this AU, but I think this could be expanded to the whole class (maybe as part of the Killing Game? Idk) tho I'd have to think of a lot more monsters for that. My thoughts about that are: Gorgon Celestia- I know she has vampire aesthetic, but she'd look drop dead gorgeous with eastern indigo snakes in her hair <3

Heard you were into Danganronpa *slides into askbox* *hyperfixation intensifies*
So you know the trend Danganronpa but the wheel decides their fate? What if in the Non-Despair AU that was because it was a virtual simulation game made by the tech-based ultimates? So Junko being the mastermind and all the murders that happened were the “first round”. The wheel is actually an AI that decides who will be the mastermind, traitor, etc, though it can not control who lives and who dies.
When the survivors wake up, all their memories are brought back ASAP, and they all just have a good laugh about it. Though, it does take a little while (a few hours after the survivors) for the “dead” students to awaken, along with their brains to shoot their memories back. Though, they all still enjoy it in the end and there’s no long lasting trauma because the device attached to them regulates their brain so it doesn’t become scarred lol. The memories come back in around 25 minutes. (I’m a sucker for “waking up from killing game simulation” angst, but it’s not necessary for people to add to the story if they don’t wanna add it of course!)
They go for several rounds when there’s school breaks, since there’s nothing to do. They’re all in love with the game, and the other classes all have their own version of the game simulation as well. While it’s not obsessive, they’re all pretty stricken with it, and it’s one of their favorite things to do.
So that’s about it, I’m in love with this funky little AU I came up with. I just wanted an explanation for the “Wheel Based Killing Games” without it being just another “oh its an alternate universe where certain facets are changed”. There’s still angst but not much, and all in all everyone has a good time.
I think it’s pretty galaxy brain myself!
Sorry for the long ask but I’ve been thinking about it for like 25 min ;v;
Don't worry about the long ask, friend! I actually find it really fun to find random asks in my inbox- especially about my fandoms.
And I gotta say, your idea is pretty interesting. I feel like there's a lot of potential for things to get interesting in this kind of setting- because sure, the murders aren't real, but the things the characters communicate are. Imagine confessing to your crush because you think you're in a life or death situations and then getting out of the simulation and realizing they still remember what you said. Or fighting with your friend and still having some hurt feelings once you leave because they said something really cruel. People can have all kind of reactions to high-tension situations, and that can lead to a lot of angst or fluff after they get out of the game.
I also find the idea of the behind the scenes fun. Mondo is like "make it bloodier! More violence!!" while Taka is trying to make sure there's nothing inappropriate while Leon is pestering about wanting a great singing, with poor Chihiro just trying to program in peace lol. Having the class get together to discuss some thing they can add to the game would be pure chaos.
I haven't explored many Wheel Based Killing Games (I've been thinking about my own AU, and I'm horribly slow with it but I don't want to get too influenced by other AUs), but I might do so now.
#ask#asks#sunsetinspace#Danganronpa#au#this reminds me of a game I used to play in highschool (except it wasn't virtual because no moneys)#basically one player is designated as god and tells everyone to close their eyes#then they choose two people: the detective and the murderer#the detective needs to catch the murderer and the murderer needs to kill the detective#god then tells the detective to open their eyes and they have to point to who they think the murderer is#if they fail they have to close their eyes again- and now god tells the murderer to open their eyes and point to the detective#if they also fail- god tells everyone to open their eyes and says who died that turn#and everyone has to argue who they think the murderer is or defend themselves if they're being accused#since the game is mostly silent you need to pay a lot of attention to sound and movement while you have your eyes closed#and ofc the body language of people when they make or deny accusations#not to mention the relationships between people- did the murderer kill someone because they suspected them#or because they didn't like the person? or maybe it's their close friend and they just killed them to throw off suspicion#fun! thrilling!

(I use He/Him for Chihiro btw!!) (also, I don’t think Jin is the type of person to do this type of thing, so I’ll say the ‘vice principal’ did this. Let’s call her Chiyo Akemi!)
So I’m researching Monsters in the Monster High universe, and I’m thinking that Chihiro was simply killed by a fatal injection while he was sleeping (likely went unconscious with a pillow to make sure he wouldn’t struggle, with a disguise on the attacker just in case) that made Chihiro’s soul more tangible perhaps?
After killing Chihiro, they saw Chihiro’s ghost almost immediately. Chihiro started crying, he was terrified about what had happened. All he could do was watch as they took their equipment and left. Chiyo was the one that came to his room a few hours later, seeing the dead body and Chihiro crying in the corner of the room.
Chiyo faked compassion, saying that Chihiro should lay low and pretend not to be dead to the others for now. “They could become violent if they know. Think about Leon and Mondo. They’ve always been the type to act irrationally. I don’t want you to get hurt when you’re trying to get help.”
Chiyo hurriedly took Chihiro’s body and buried it behind the school. There wasn’t even a proper funeral, just dug above with dirt until it was covered enough. All while Chihiro watched from a distance, jacket covering up his translucent skin.
Chihiro was appointed to meetings underneath the school. They claimed it was to try to cure Chihiro, but it was just an excuse to do experiments on him. They’ve found out a lot of information because of it, though. Also, to make sure that it didn’t seem suspicious, they helped to make Alter Ego, as a ‘potential new body’ for Chihiro.
Chihiro was also the first to be turned into a monster, which makes this even sadder.
That sounds pretty cool ngl (though I can't offer much commentary because I don't really like Chihiro). Hope's Peak Academy having an evil vice principal is also interesting- though I say it's possible that Chihiro could be murdered/experimented on by the faceless school higher-ups, like the actual owners of the school. After all, someone had to start the Izuru Kamukura project, and I also don't think Jin would be the type to do that sort of thing.

I’ve been thinking about Gundham a lot lately. Specifically his father. TW for abuse and neglect. This are all my HCs btw! I hope this makes sense I’ve been thinking about this a lot (つ .•́ _ʖ •̀.)つ
His previous name was not Gundham Tanaka, but rather a name he refuses to say: Hato Hatoko.
The Hatoko family was very poor, and couldn’t afford much, and financial issues were a generational problem in his family. As in, one trip to the hospital would make them homeless. They couldn’t afford school, so they homeschooled him. His house was a nightmare, filled with cigarette smoke and rotting paint on the walls, and dried up nails that stuck out of boards.
Gundham’s dad was neglecting towards Gundham, almost never coming home until all of the family was asleep, and he never really liked his father either because his father was shameful of Gundham. He never was told this outright, but whenever his father came home early by some type of miracle— he’d always hear conversations between his parents about how Gundham isn’t like other kids. His mother didn’t mind, and in fact loved that part of her son. His father disagreed, and frankly found him to be an embarrassment to the family with his antics. He was concerned Gundham couldn’t hold down a job, and he didn’t want to look bad because of his son when he gets famous. (His father is not actually famous, it’s a self centered dream of his father’s that will never come true.)
This made him develop delusions of grandiose and superiority to cope with the neglect his father gave him. While his mother loved him very much, she couldn’t show it often because she not only needed to work, but also take care of her only child. On the rare occasions she was able to sneak in a bit of free time, they often talked about animals, mystical creatures, and fairy tales/urban legends.
He ran away from home at the age of nine, shortly after his father started physically abusing his mother, and it was on the night his father caused a permanent scar on Gundham’s face. He simply had enough; he didn’t want to live in those conditions anymore. His mother and father never saw him again, and they weren’t able to find any trace of him either. He doesn’t know their living situation, frankly. He changed his name to Gundham Tanaka, and won’t reveal his past name to anyone. He doesn’t even look like the child he was. He wanted to make sure that no one would recognize him. The Hato Hatoko case remains a mystery, and is one of the most famous missing cases in Japan’s history. Only he knows what happened to that boy.
He refuses to tell all of his past to anyone. Not to Hajime, The Devas, no one. Not Sonia, not Kazuichi, no one. He carries his sins on his back, his burdens, his regrets, and he won’t say anything. Not before, when, or after he dies.
His life is a mystery to many, but to him, it’s all painfully clear. It keeps him up at night, sometimes.
He wishes he could’ve taken his mother.
Too late, now.
...Well damn, that's awfully sad. Tbh I've never been one to think too much about a character's past (except Hajime, but he's my fave so that checks out) but I do find your idea interesting. I also hadn't thought about Gundham being a fake name, but he certainly does seem like the type to pick his own identity once he's allowed.

Also I made sprite swap of my OTP because why not
My first sprite swaps btw, actually proud of how they came out!
Oh nice! I've always wanted to do sprite edits, but I get way too ambitious for someone who's need to the thing so it doesn't usually turn out right rip.
This made me think of an AU where Makoto is the Ultimate Detective and Kyoko is the Lucky Student which is kinda cute also.
