If there was ever a new Brave show, what would you want it to be about/what would you want it to involve?

Oh, what I wouldn't give to see a new Brave emerge from the depths of Sunrise's animation studios. But the chances are slim, infinitesimal even, microscopic to the point that I've given up hope to see some kind of series revival one day. At least we're still getting figurines and HD Blu-Ray remasters of the animes, but that's pretty much it.

What we are left with is our imagination and perseverance and thankfully, some fans have those attributes in abundance. I'm not going to call them out by name - you all know who you are and you should know your efforts are greatly appreciated by this small fandom.

Some of them have made a great effort to come up with new ideas for their own original shows that have sprung from their imaginations and they are kind enough to share it with the world. As someone who loves reading about pretty much any thing and everything relevant to the media I'm obsessed with at that time, I also love reading about other people's take on the already existing and well-established fictional worlds.

I've already mentioned my own and the OCs that are part of it, but to be honest, this is not exactly the direction I would take the franchise if I had a say in it. There are many great ways one could revive the Yuusha series and my own silly idea of a story is not it. There are too many themes that don't fit with the overall tone of the series - it needs to be as light-hearted, emotional and thrilling as the original one... which it isn't.

I'll list the answer to your ask under the cut if it's alright with you.

First of all, one thing that I would love to see is a way for the producers to link the shows together. It can either be done with little easter eggs or references to the old shows,

There is a reason why almost all Braves follow a pattern in terms of plot progression and action and I think they should bring that back. The monster-of-the-week format has worked well with almost every series and while it's definitely not the perfect way of storytelling, it makes for fun times.

Let the villains be silly, give them control over some ridiculouly huge thing and watch them decimate the protagonists with it until they learn its attack patterns and defeat it with the power of friendship. It wouldn't hurt if they did it once or twice every ten episodes.

We need more villains who are evil for the sake of it. They don't need a thorough reason to destroy the universe. And give us our beloved morally grey rivals/antiheroes turned allies back, please.

Nowadays I feel that most characters aren't as colorful as they used to be, but not here, nuh-uh! They need to have at least two primary colors in their frame (RYB, RGB or CYMK, doesn't matter which one) as long as they wear it with pride. Example: my man Draias is a walking fashion disaster, yet he doesn't care about his appearance and I love him for it.

not Earth, thank you. While I don't have anything against human-made robots or those who were created by our planet's nature, the thought of them being aliens is so much cooler.

The OST would be a banger for sure.

Another thing I want to see is a more in-depth exploration of the themes and issues they deal with. BPJD had its fair share of addressing themes that are usually targeted at older viewers rather than the actual target audience of pre- and elementary schoolers. I don't want that to get lost in a new show. Children are just as capable of understanding and dealing with heavy themes if they are offered an explanation for everything they might not fully comprehend.

While I don't like humans in robot media in general, BPJD was probably the only show where I think they handled them well. THe human side characters weren't as prominent as they had been in the previous and following Braves. The robots were finally in the spotlight and got the development they desperately needed. Yuuta and Deckerd had a unique bond, they were like siblings and that was so wonderfully presented that I couldn't help but like their pure, albeit codependent relationship.

More platonic relationships. More focus on friendships. More familial love and found family. More bromances, more womances. The same amount of explosions and action.

And please let everyone be normal about women, GGG Final was just. No. (I love you, Anryuu, but the rest of the cast were done dirty)

As for the plot, anything would work. Aliens invade the Earth, philanthrophic Braves come to defend it. Maybe they've been fighting the other guys for a long while, maybe they haven't. What matters is that it should be something that makes sense for a Yuusha show.

And give them badass designs, please.

grandpa haymitch!!!

my biggest epilogue headcanon is that i 100% believe haymitch decides to quit drinking when he finds out katniss is pregnant (because i REFUSE to accept he doesn’t live to see their kids). i can see him reaching the point in his life where he thinks katniss and peeta don’t need him anymore, and starts letting go of living. i imagine that lenore dove visits him in a dream, her hair gray and face wrinkled (but as beautiful to him as ever). she tells him that his time with his family is not over and they will need him more than ever.

then, he finds out katniss is pregnant, and everything changes. he finally sees an opportunity to start over. everyone he has ever loved has been hurt by him, but he refuses to burden another soul he loves. he loves katniss and peeta too much to break their trust like that yet again, and already sees himself holding their sweet baby in his arms. he can’t imagine stumbling around, slurring his words in front of someone so precious. it’s simply unthinkable.

he thinks of burdock. his adored daughter having her own child. he makes a silent promise to him to take care of his grand babies, something that was taken away from him.

so one night, soon after katniss and peeta break the news, he dumps all the white liquor down the drain. he ends up miserably sick, but just the thought of that baby or the sight of katniss’ growing belly is enough to keep him from going into town and buying more liquor.

he eventually comes back to life, and is more present in katniss and peeta’s lives than ever. he helps them put together the baby’s room, cares for katniss when she’s not feeling well while peeta’s working, and never comes back from town without something for the baby.

when katniss goes into labor, he spends the entire day pacing back and forth downstairs in the living room. he is so worried about her. the sound of labor pains is almost enough to put back a drink. almost.

when he goes upstairs and meets their baby girl, he breaks down. katniss and peeta have never seen him cry until this moment. all he can see are the two people he loves most in the world, wrapped up into a tiny bundle of dark curls and chubby cheeks. she looks just like katniss, remembering the days where burdock showed her off in the hob. he imagines the future he wanted with lenore dove, how they were going to have their own babies and grandbabies. she would be so proud of him, so happy he got to experience the love of being a father and a grandfather in this world.

as baby girl and her brother grow, haymitch becomes their favorite person. they love to ride on his shoulders, chase around with the geese, and play dress up with him (which is katniss’s favorite thing to watch - he looks ridiculous and can’t help but scowl at her as she laughs at him dressed up in a dress and tiara. he does it anyway, it makes the kids happy).

he eventually teaches the girl how to play piano (because he obviously learned it to honor lenore dove), and brings her a bundle of wildflowers after her first recital. he is there for every birthday, every school performance, every sport event, and every sunday (at the very least) for dinner. he walks with katniss every afternoon to pick them up from school, and carries the boy on his shoulders while he holds the girl’s hand.

he loves her beautiful voice and her kindness toward everyone she meets. he loves his curiosity, his belly laugh, and the mop of blonde curls on the top of his head. he often finds himself ruffling them, just as he would do to sid so long ago.

they remind him of all the innocent souls he loved and lossed. sid, louella, ampert, lou lou; all too innocent for the creulty of the world. the difference is, they are out of the capitol’s reach.

finally, he is not defined by his faults. he is not the rebel tribute who got his family and his girl killed, a victor, a mentor, or a drunk. he is grandpa haymitch. loved to death by two little kids and their parents, just for being him.

lenore dove often visits him in his dreams, telling him she’s so proud of him, and to keep living for her in this world where the sun rises on days full of love, hope, and peace.

Thinking about how there’s a good chance that the tributes who were selected for the 75th games were probably chosen before hand. Anyone who had been a disturbance during or after their games would now be able to be gotten rid of in an “orderly” way. Like what can you do, those are the odds.

Like Beetee has tried to disrupt the capital multiple times, and this is Snows chance to actually be rid of him. His value to panem is no longer enough to save him, and his “lessons” were not enough. Then they drag Wiress in along too. She’s helped him before, and no doubt he has a soft spot for her, feeling responsible for her torture and what she’s become.

Or Finnick even. Becoming too popular after his games, too powerful in information that could be used against Snow. Annie picked because she’s Finnicks actual love, or with the possibility that they tried to destroy the arena again during her games.

And anyone who would volunteer to be in the games again is most likely a nuisance as well, so they are free to go.

Oh Suzanne. What do you mean this sweet teenage boy is the same person as the old hag man Haymitch from the og series. This small boy? With his pretty little locks? This boy who wants to give his expensive birthday gift to his girlfriends' uncle just to impress him? Who pretends not to look when his mom prepares a fancy dinner for him, just so she can feel good about suprising her baby boy? Who intentionally puts his responsibilites aside for a moment just so he can spend some time with his perfect beautiful girl? Who's so good and gentle with children? Who wants to protect Louelle during the Games even though he's small and scared, just because shes even smaller and even more scared? This boy? You sure Suzanne? Are you sure???

Something that I haven't seen anyone talk about is the fact that Plutarch Heavensbee being the videographer in SotR relates to the real world Plutarch (who he was presumably named after).

Real Plutarch was a Roman writer most famous for his biographies that paired up and compared great Greeks and Romans. He wrote about their character (rather than simply history) and his works are some of the most complete and frequent sources used when studying the Roman Republic and its fall. Essentially, the lack of other sources have made his works the only real reference point for this time, regardless of their accuracy and the fact that Plutarch was writing a good century after the Republic had already fallen. We don't know how much of Real Plutarch's writing is historically accurate compared to biased its production under the Roman Empire.

While Plutarch Heavensbee's footage ends up removed as part of Snow's propaganda, his name serves as a reminder that information that comes from one source (be it a Roman writer or the Capital) cannot be be taken at face value. The trust we put in single sources is what allows for misunderstandings of history and blatant propaganda to persevere.

One Plutarch's stories lives on in a dangerously singular way; the other Plutarch's were swept under the rug to make room for a different single narrative.

TL;DR Plutarch Heavensbee's name is a warning to consider multiple sources. Think critically, and look don't trust something said by a single authority.

SotR has really changed my perspective on the other games that we know very little about. Johanna for sure comes to mind. Katniss describes Haymitch’s games pretty in detail during CF and we know from both that and Haymitch’s description during the Victor ceremony that the game makers downplay his time in the arena significantly. They make it look like he spent pretty much the entire games walking north toward the edge of the arena, only being deterred from his goal when Maysilee saves him from Panache— but we know that’s just government propaganda to cover up the fact that he conducted himself like an absolute nightmare tribute. Too involved in the lives of his “enemies.” Too much empathy. Too much humanity and hatred for the Capital.

Do we really believe, after seeing how MUCH Haymitch’s games were edited by the time Katniss and Peeta watch them in CF, that Johanna actually hid during her games until the very end?

I think it’s safe to assume that her family suffered a similar fate to Haymitch’s, and we know by the time CF rolls around she’s angry. She’s so angry AND she doesn’t care who knows anymore. “He can’t hurt me, there’s no one left that I love.”

It also makes me question Beetee’s games. He won by electrocuting the final 6 tributes. Or at least, that’s what the Capital has told us, but the version of Beetee that we’ve known since CF has seemed too smart to do anything without an ulterior motive. I assume that his first game was his first attempt to “take out the brain.”

It also makes me question Annie’s games - did she really self isolate leading up to the finale? It’s what we’ve been told, but we know the editors love to use that line. Also, an “earth quake resulting in a flood”? Beetee YOU ARE A MENACE

I think part of the brilliance of SOTR is that it’s made me want to engage with the original trilogy in a way that I haven’t in well over a decade. Over and over and over again the rebellion tried to set themselves free. There is a rich text here of failing and hoping and waiting and suffering. And then along comes Katniss and she is not the chosen one she is not the Girl on Fire in any meaningful way, she is just a person who carries the same hurt as the other district citizens. She is just a girl who doesn’t know, who can’t know, about the boys and girls who have come before her and have tried as hard as they can to eat the berries. To not let the capital win.

Ugh. I want to kiss Suzanne Collins square on the mouth I loved this book so much. It hurts so good.
