Please. Margo comes from money and spent more time on vacation than she did working when she dated Seb. Just because she’s an immigrant doesn’t mean she is poor and has a work ethic. People forget she did CA multiple times. Posted herself wearing Native America headdress in IG and laughed at people who called her out for it /// Well, first of all, it was a pic of her in a headdress, which is bad, but it was literally just her wearing it, no party, no full face paint, no offensive captions full of slurs. It’s still CA and still bad but just never on the level of Alejandra. I legit don’t remember her laughing at people or even people calling her out for it. They did however called her out for wearing a fur hat, which she was adamant to keep. And what you say did CA multiple times? When was that? Native headdress is one. That’s it. Her work ethic... yep, she wasn’t anywhere near the level of the workaholic Seb, despite that however she worked a lot. First of all, during her rs with Seb (in a span of 2 years), she did multiple acting workshops, which your precious AW is so above, she filmed 2 tv shows, at least 4 movies 2 of which ended up at Sundance. Already more than AW did in the last 2 years. She filmed 2 shorts for which she got some awards as the best actress and filmed a music video for a suicide awareness. Did AW ever do that? Did AW ever get any awards for her acting? Genuinely asking btw. Anyway, Margo ended up getting her role in The Deuce while still with Seb and he helped her film her audition tape after which she immediately cut their trip to London short to go back to in person audition. Just a few months after their breakup, she did an off broadway performance, ended up getting another longer off broadway play, filmed another movie, got some festival notices, got a part in a charity HBO monologue project, got her own TV show on Netflix in which she was THE LEAD in and the shoot was almost 6 months long, got another co-lead in a mini-series, filmed that, had 2 photoshoots, had multiple auditions, went back to London and did the promo for the mini series and now got 2 roles in 2 big franchises, one of which she’s currently filming in England. That to me sounds like WAY more than what AW did in the past year or 5. Margo’s vacations weren’t even so slumped together the way it always is with Alejandra who works for 3 days and then immediately goes to spa and vacations. I can recall just 2 proper vacations she’s had while in a rs with Seb (Mexico and Italy for his bday) all of which happened in 2014 and 2015. She started going on vacations more after their break up. I remember the issue with her being not working as much as he was, not even going some place. She was also actively involved in the charity in which SHE did something rather than asking people to do something. She read to the elderly every other month and visited children charities and actually spent time with them teaching them acting and dancing stuff. When was the last time AW did something like that? Oh yeah, she was at the donation location of Pine’s supported charity in 2020. Good for her. I’d ask whether she’d be there without him but I think we all know the answer.

Sundancing.
As the 2021 film festival season kicks off, Sundance Film Festival alumni and this year’s newcomers share their best tips for at-home festival attendance.
With contributions from Joe Talbot, Aneesh Chaganty, Ekwa Msangi, Heidi Ewing, Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine, Levan Akin, Max Barbakow, Jim Cummings, Sara Hirner and Rosemary Vasquez-Brown, Kentucker Audley and Albert Birney, Alexis Gambis and the Letterboxd Sundance team.
While it’s a small relief not to have to share a bunkbed with Gary from Australia, and go trudging up those Park City slopes in chunky ol’ snow boots, it’s still a challenge to create the ambience that the world premiere of a brilliant new indie film deserves. So, as well as creating a new, official Letterboxd festival hub (Festiville—give it a follow to receive festival updates in your main activity feed), we’ve also called in some friends to help us overcome the barrier of a lonely room, a smaller screen and a too-familiar couch.
At home, you can sit as close to the screen as you can bear. (‘Paddington’, 2014.)
Bring the mountain to you.
How best to recreate the specific feeling of trying not to break your neck while running across the icy carpark between the Doubletree and the Holiday Village 4 during a tight turnaround? Letterboxd’s West Coast editor Dominic Corry advises getting into the Park City swing of things right from breakfast: “Place a headshot next to your coffee machine to replicate the experience of bumping into an A-lister at the Starbucks in Fresh Market”.
Before your first screening of the day, say Boys State directors Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine (Sundance 2020), “Stand outside in the cold for sixty minutes before viewing the film, then watch the film while wearing a very heavy parka, and realize you’re very hot twenty minutes into the movie and have to wrestle your parka off whilst not disturbing your fellow viewers.”
Or, don’t even bother trying to remove those layers, says And Then We Danced writer-director Levan Akin (Sundance 2020): “Recreate the sweat-soaked sensation I had by dressing in thermal long johns to outsmart the cold, only to sit through screenings in a pool of your own sweat. Rookie mistake!”
Between screenings, you have a couple of options. “Hit that StairMaster between virtual engagements to simulate the high mountain altitude,” advises Palm Springs director Max Barbakow (Sundance 2020), ”and don’t forget that chlorophyll to catch your wind!”
Kentucker Audley and Albert Birney, writers and directors of Strawberry Mansion (Sundance 2021) have an alternate suggestion: “After a screening, we recommend turning off the heat in your home, getting into your bathtub (imagining it’s a hot tub), and once it’s nice and freezing in your house, get out of the tub with wet feet, step directly into your snow boats and race to the nearest towel, which for some reason is nowhere near you. Then watch another movie and repeat the process.” Seems eerily legit.
There’s no corkage charged for BYO in the home cinema. (‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, 2008.)
Creating those creature comforts.
For those of you who have long since accepted that we’re on the sofa rather than the slopes this Sundance, the trick is to make home as inviting as possible, despite its being far too familiar these days. That could mean moving the screen from its usual spot. Heidi Ewing, writer and director of I Carry You With Me (Sundance 2020) has a three-step plan: “1. Carmel-corn 2. Bathtub with bubbles 3. Play it loud—bathroom-tile acoustics will make it all feel bigger and boomier. That’s my sage advice.”
“Definitely co-sign the bathtub!” agrees Letterboxd’s London correspondent Ella Kemp. “And I’d also suggest watching the midnight-leaning stuff—big horror, big genre, big WTF—first thing in the morning, if you can. I do not have the same energy late at night in my own at home as I do with a sold-out crowd.”
Expose your folks to a whole new world—make them watch Midnight category films with you over breakfast. (‘Good Morning’, 1959.)
Indeed, energy for film festivals is a thing whether you’re an in-person or satellite viewer—this applies to mental energy, too. “If you’re ever stressed or tired, watch a documentary to reset yourself,” says Jim Cummings, writer and director, Thunder Road short (Grand Jury winner, Sundance 2016), producer, Beast Beast (Sundance 2020).
And, given it’s a seven-day-long haul, feel free to throw cooking plans out the window and follow the Park City diet, in which you “eat nothing but finger foods for the duration of the festival,” according to Moss and McBaine. Or, as Ekwa Msangi, writer-director of Farewell Amor (Sundance 2020) recommends, “get some deliciously flavored popcorn and a hot drink for afterwards!”
Another at-home tip from Corry: “Don’t turn the lights on when you get up to go to the bathroom mid-movie, so as to recreate the sensation of your eyes struggling to adjust to the light in the restroom.”
Mac ’n’ cheese and a cold one for the last viewing of the day. (‘Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood’, 2019.)
Hell is other people (but animals are cool).
Not all of us live alone, and not all of us live with film lovers. Company is welcome, interruptions are to be expected, but do set some boundaries and decide what you will and won’t compromise on. “If you’ve got to bargain with roommates and family members for your turn to use the TV, be intentional about sound!” advises Letterboxd contributor, Selome Hailu. “Don’t compromise on music documentaries or well-scored horror, but rom-com dialogue might still sound okay with your laptop speaker.”
Housemates not human? That’s no problem for Alexis Gambis, writer, director and co-editor, Son of Monarchs (Sundance 2021): “Make room for your pets, let them be the film critics this time around.”
Importantly, says Cummings, “Be kind to everyone.” Whether you’re at a satellite screening, joining a festival event online or talking about the films on your social channels, “everyone is here to watch crazy weird movies. Remind yourself that it’s all about weird cinema and the creators. Watch movies!”
“And definitely stay for the Q&As,” say Moss and McBaine. “Always incredible.”
Director Dorothy Arzner and star Clara Bow are dressed to impress. (‘The Wild Party’, 1929.)
Watch the premieres as their makers intended.
Look, filmmakers know what they’re up against in 2021, but it doesn’t stop them dreaming big when it comes to how we see their films for the first time. Sara Hirner and Rosemary Vasquez-Brown, directors of the Sundance 2021 short GNT, have put some thought into this:
“We demand that GNT be viewed in one of two very specific ways, and since we have no control over ourselves or the world at large, we urge you to at least pay us this small kindness!
Option A: You shall view GNT at 3:00am, sans pants, with two-day-old pizza and your laptop perched on your titties.
Option B: You shall dress in your finest garb, slather your face in makeup (please consult the swaths of teenage beauty gurus if you’re unsure on how to accomplish this task), and adorn yourself in your highest heels. These must all be the same color (tone variations will be accepted). Crack open your cheapest available sparkling wine and get to it. We hope you enjoy the show.”
For those whose Sundance dress code extends only to bed-wear, Msangi pleads: “If you’re staying in your pajamas, at least put on a cool beanie to spice things up!”
Sharing is caring. (‘Shithouse’, 2020.)
Tweets, or it didn’t happen.
Finally, and most essentially, Aneesh Chaganty, writer and director of Searching (Sundance 2018), declares: “It’s not a Sundance hit without insane amounts of buzz. If you like it, tell everyone you know.”
After all, it’s what we’re here for… isn’t it? The last word goes to Joe Talbot, co-writer and director of The Last Black Man in San Francisco (Sundance 2019): “Since so many people at Sundance like to say that, between all the meetings and panels, they just haven’t had a chance to see any movies, let 2021 be the year that if you haven’t seen the movies, you admit it’s because you just don’t like movies.” Boom.

#1 F.A.Q.:
“Given how much has been done in the first decade following Michael’s tragic and untimely passing, it should not be a surprise that there is a natural slowing and spreading out of major releases as the Estate focuses more selectively on projects to enhance Michael’s legacy long term. While we appreciate that the fans want more releases, it is important to keep in mind all that has been created and released in this relatively short time. This includes a number of licensing deals such as the limited-edition collaborations with clothing companies like Supreme and Off White, the launch of the Michael Jackson slot machines, as well as all of the larger scale releases including:
2009: The documentary film This Is It, which remains the highest grossing music documentary/concert film in history. Also released was a compilation album with the same title that includes the songs featured in the film and a few bonus tracks including Michael’s unreleased track, “This Is It”. The album has sold in excess of five million copies worldwide making it the largest posthumous release in history.
2010: The Ubisoft game, Michael Jackson: The Experience. While there were many successful versions of the Ubisoft Just Dance videogame, this was the first (and only) time they released a dance video game dedicated entirely to a single artist! It was released on every major platform and went on to become one of the biggest selling video games on the Wii platform. There were also two releases under the Estate’s agreement with Sony Music – Michael, which was the first release of previously unfinished tracks that were worked on by various producers who had worked with Michael. Notwithstanding the controversy about three of the tracks on that album, it went to #1 around the world and sold more than five million copies. Visions, the complete collection of all of Michael’s short films, was also released.
2011: There have been two completely unique live stage shows created by the Estate in partnership with Cirque du Soleil. The first of these shows, Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour, travelled to arenas around the world for nearly 3 years. Along the way it grossed approximately $400 million at the box office making it one of the biggest tours of all time! And it won the Billboard Magazine Creative Content Award. There was also another release under the partnership with Sony Music – an album, Immortal, featuring remixes of Michael’s recordings created by Kevin Antunes, the musical director for both Cirque du Soleil shows, based on the songs used in the IMMORTAL show.
2012: There was a special Bad album re-release to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Bad album which included remastered versions of the tracks from the original album on one disc together with a second disc that included rarities as well as 6 previously unreleased demos by Michael from the recording sessions for the Bad album. It is worth noting that none of these demos would have been released as ‘new’ recordings, however they worked in the context of ‘bonus’ material for this anniversary release. Also included in the larger box set was a Live at Wembley CD – the first ever Michael Jackson live CD from any of Michael’s solo tours to be released. •Also, as part of the Bad 25th anniversary celebration, the Wembley concert from the Bad Tour was released on DVD. Michael’s performance at this concert is certainly the best live concert performance by any artist ever. As explained at the time, had we been able to locate any original source films/tapes for this performance we would have used those to create a fully edited concert. Unfortunately, that was not the case and we released the only thing we found – Michael’s own viewing copy of the concert. We continue to search for the original elements in the hopes that one day we will be able to share this concert in the best possible format. Just like the fans, we would be ecstatic if this happens. •There was the first of two long-form documentaries produced by the Estate with director Spike Lee at the helm, BAD25, which was premiered at the Venice Film Festival and broadcast on ABC in the United States and broadcast on television throughout the rest of the world. The longer “director’s cut” of the documentary was also released on DVD/Blu-Ray. •There was also a deal with Pepsi to promote the 25th anniversary of Bad and the Bad World Tour, for which Pepsi was the sponsor. As part of the deal with Pepsi, special limited-edition cans were released around the world.
2013: The second live show created by the Estate and Cirque du Soleil, Michael Jackson ONE, which is a more intimate show than the touring show, premiered at its permanent home at Mandalay Bay Resort & Hotel in Las Vegas. While we are aware that it is not possible for everyone to travel to Las Vegas to see this show, we are proud to say it continues to be one of the most successful Las Vegas shows. In fact, it is one of the best shows in the world and is a fitting tribute to Michael Jackson. While it was forced to shutter along with all other live events in early 2020 as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, it will reopen when it is safe and will continue to entertain audiences for years to come.
2014: The second album featuring previously unreleased recordings, Xscape, was executive produced with L.A. Reid who brought in current producers including Timbaland, and the album also included the first posthumously released duet by Michael. Justin Timberlake joined Michael on a version of “Love Never Felt So Good”. This album went to #1 all over the world and another song from this album, “Slave To The Rhythm”, was featured in the hologram performance on the Billboard Music Awards, which gave the show its biggest ratings in decades.
2016: Based on the success of BAD25, the Estate and Spike Lee partnered on a second documentary, Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to OFF THE WALL, which looked back at Michael’s early career path and culminates with an in-depth look at Off The Wall. This critically acclaimed documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was broadcast on Showtime in the United States and by other broadcasters around the world. It was also released on Blu-Ray/DVD.
2017: To celebrate the connection between Michael Jackson and Halloween, there was the premiere of the original animated television special, Michael Jackson’s Halloween, which had the best ratings of the night outside of the World Series game. There were also special events in a half dozen select cities around the world that included the screening of the full length version of Ghosts, Michael’s epic short film with Stan Winston, and a special screening of Thriller 3D, which actually had its premiere at a return trip to the Venice Film Festival.. And there was a release of a Halloween themed compilation album/playlist, Scream. There was also another deal with Pepsi to include Michael in their global campaign, which again included the release of special limited-edition Pepsi cans featuring Michael Jackson imagery.
2018: The critically acclaimed Michael Jackson: On The Wall exhibition premiered at London’s National Portrait Gallery on June 28. Following its record setting run in London, the exhibition travelled to three other major European locations – Paris, France, Bonn, Germany and Espoo, Finland. This innovative and unique experience was appreciated and enjoyed by fans and other members of the general public in each city. •In July, a sample from a previously unreleased Michael Jackson recording, “It Don’t Matter To Me”, was licensed in a new similarly titled Drake recording, “Don’t Matter To Me” to further our intention of introducing Michael to new generations of fans through collaborations with current artists. This duet would become Michael’s 44th top ten Billboard chart hit. •And in August, on what would have been Michael’s 60th birthday, we hosted the Diamond Celebration in Las Vegas. In addition to all of the normal birthday festivities hosted by the Estate at Michael Jackson ONE in Las Vegas every year, there was an extra special party attended by invited guests and fans featuring a DJ set by Mark Ronson and a performance by Usher. •Thriller 3D was premiered in IMAX in a limited 1-week engagement in theaters around the world with the Universal/Amblin release, “The House With A Clock In Its Walls” to rave reviews. We hope to find opportunities to show Thriller 3D again in the future.
2019/2020: The Estate had a number of plans, including those for the 10th anniversary of the release of This Is It, that were all impacted by the release of Leaving Neverland. Regardless of the fact that it is not truthful and will be exposed for its lies, in the short term, its release made other media companies reluctant, at least temporarily, to license any new Michael Jackson programming. This has already started to pass. And, of course, in 2020 we are all dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in a delay for the opening of MJ the Musical on Broadway, as well as impacting other plans we had for this year.
All of this is a way to remind everyone how much the Estate actually has done in the last eleven years, and also to remind everyone that as the result of forces and events out of our control, we had to put a pause on big activities for the last eighteen months. There is a theory – one that Michael subscribed to – that one shouldn’t do too much, give the world a rest, and then surprise them with special projects. That remains the Estate’s intention. Michael continues to be the number one streaming catalog artist in the world and with soar to new heights when the Broadway show opens and we are able to complete and release the other projects in process.”

Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman (born March 30, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter, known for her hits "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason", along with other singles "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", "Baby Can I Hold You", "Crossroads", "New Beginning", and "Telling Stories". She is a multi-platinum and four-time Grammy Award–winning artist.
Chapman was signed to Elektra Records by Bob Krasnow in 1987. The following year she released her critically acclaimed debut album Tracy Chapman, which became a multi-platinum worldwide hit. The album earned Chapman six Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year, three of which she won, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her single "Fast Car", and Best New Artist. Chapman released her second album Crossroads the following year, which garnered her an additional Grammy nomination. Since then, Chapman has experienced further success with six more studio albums, which include her multi-platinum fourth album New Beginning, for which she won a fourth Grammy Award, for Best Rock Song, for its lead single "Give Me One Reason". Chapman's most recent album is Our Bright Future, released in 2008.
Early life
Chapman was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents divorced when she was four years of age. She was raised by her mother, who bought her music-loving three-year-old daughter a ukulele despite having little money. Chapman began playing the guitar and writing songs at age eight. She says that she may have been first inspired to play the guitar by the television show Hee Haw. Chapman's family received welfare. In her native Cleveland, school desegregation efforts led to racial unrest and even riots; Chapman has stated that she experienced frequent bullying and racially motivated assaults as a child.
Raised as a Baptist, Chapman attended an Episcopal high school and was accepted into the program A Better Chance, which sponsors students at college preparatory high schools away from their home community. She graduated from Wooster School in Connecticut, then attended Tufts University, graduating with a B.A. degree in Anthropology and African studies.
Career
Chapman made her major-stage debut as an opening act for women's music pioneer Linda Tillery at Boston's Strand Theater on May 3, 1985. Another Tufts student, Brian Koppelman, heard Chapman playing and brought her to the attention of his father, Charles Koppelman. Koppelman, who ran SBK Publishing, signed Chapman in 1986. After Chapman graduated from Tufts in 1987, he helped her to sign a contract with Elektra Records.
At Elektra, she released Tracy Chapman (1988). The album was critically acclaimed, and she began touring and building a fanbase. "Fast Car" began its rise on the U.S. charts soon after she performed it at the televised Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert in June 1988; it became a number 6 pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending August 27, 1988. Rolling Stone ranked the song number 167 on their 2010 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". It is the highest-ranking song on the Rolling Stone list that was both written and performed by a female performer. "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", the follow-up to Fast Car, charted at number 75 and was followed by "Baby Can I Hold You", which peaked at number 48. The album sold well, going multi-platinum and winning three Grammy Awards, including an honor for Chapman as Best New Artist. Later in 1988, Chapman was a featured performer on the worldwide Amnesty International Human Rights Now! Tour.
Chapman's follow-up album, Crossroads (1989), was less commercially successful than her debut had been, but it still achieved platinum status. By 1992's Matters of the Heart, Chapman was playing to a small but devoted audience. Her fourth album, New Beginning (1995), proved successful, selling over three million copies in the U.S. The album included the hit single "Give Me One Reason", which won the 1997 Grammy for Best Rock Song and became Chapman's most successful single to date, peaking at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following a four-year hiatus, her fifth album, Telling Stories, was released in 2000. Its hit single, "Telling Stories", received heavy airplay on European radio stations and on Adult Alternative and Hot AC stations in the United States. Chapman toured Europe and the United States in 2003 in support of her sixth album, Let It Rain (2002).
To support her seventh studio album, Where You Live (2005), Chapman toured major U.S. cities in October and toured Europe over the remainder of the year. The "Where You Live" tour was extended into 2006; the 28-date European tour featured summer concerts in Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the UK, Russia and more. On June 5, 2006, she performed at the 5th Gala of Jazz in Lincoln Center, New York, and in a session at the 2007 TED (Technology Entertainment Design) conference in Monterey, California.
Chapman was commissioned by the American Conservatory Theater to compose music for its production of Athol Fugard's Blood Knot, a play on apartheid in South Africa, staged in early 2008.
Atlantic Records released Chapman's eighth studio album, Our Bright Future (2008). Chapman made a 26-date solo tour of Europe. She returned to tour Europe and selected North American cities during the summer of 2009. She was backed by Joe Gore on guitars, Patrick Warren on keyboards, and Dawn Richardson on percussion.
Chapman was appointed a member of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Documentary jury.
Chapman performed Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" on one of the final episodes of the Late Show with David Letterman in April 2015. The performance became a viral hit and was the focus of various news articles including some by Billboard and The Huffington Post.
On November 20, 2015, Chapman released Greatest Hits, consisting of 18 tracks including the live version of "Stand by Me", the album is Chapman's first global compilation release.
In October 2018, Chapman sued the rapper Nicki Minaj over copyright infringement, alleging that Minaj had sampled her song "Baby Can I Hold You" without permission. Chapman's lawsuit requested an injunction to prevent Minaj releasing the song "Sorry" and stated that she had "repeatedly denied" permission for "Baby Can I Hold You" to be sampled. Chapman had previously expressed her reservations about being sampled.
Social activism
Chapman is a politically and socially active musician. In a 2009 interview with American radio network NPR, she said, "I'm approached by lots of organizations and lots of people who want me to support their various charitable efforts in some way. And I look at those requests and I basically try to do what I can. And I have certain interests of my own, generally an interest in human rights." She has performed at numerous socially aware events, and continues to do so. In 1988, she performed in London as part of a worldwide concert tour to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with Amnesty International. The same year Chapman also performed in the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute, an event which raised money for South Africa's Anti-Apartheid Movement and seven children's charities. In 2004, Chapman performed (and rode) in the AIDS/LifeCycle event.
Chapman has also been involved with Cleveland's elementary schools. A music video produced by Chapman that highlights significant achievements in African-American history has become an important teaching tool in Cleveland Public Schools. Chapman also agreed to sponsor a "Crossroads in Black History" essay contest for high school students in Cleveland and other cities.
Chapman received an honorary doctorate from Saint Xavier University in Chicago in 1997. In 2004, Chapman was given an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts by her alma mater, Tufts University, recognizing her commitment to social activism.
I'm fortunate that I've been able to do my work and be involved in certain organizations, certain endeavors, and offered some assistance in some way. Whether that is about raising money or helping to raise awareness, just being another body to show some force and conviction for a particular idea. Finding out where the need is – and if someone thinks you're going to be helpful, then helping.
Chapman often performs at and attends charity events such as Make Poverty History, amfAR, and AIDS/LifeCycle, to support social causes. She identifies as a feminist.
Personal life
Although Chapman has never publicly disclosed her sexual orientation, writer Alice Walker has stated that she and Chapman were in a romantic relationship during the mid-1990s. Chapman maintains a strong separation between her personal and professional life. "I have a public life that's my work life and I have my personal life," she said. "In some ways, the decision to keep the two things separate relates to the work I do."

Tom Hiddleston in Pinter’s Betrayal to Transfer from West End
Following a smash-hit, extended run in London’s West End, Jamie Lloyd’s production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal will voyage to Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre this fall. A strictly limited engagement of seventeen weeks, the production will begin performances on Wednesday, August 14th toward an opening on Thursday, September 5th. Golden Globe, Olivier, and Evening Standard Award winner Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton, and Charlie Cox will all make their Broadway debuts as Robert, Jerry, and Emma.
“Watching this remarkable cast bring new life to Harold Pinter’s greatest work has been one of the most gratifying and exciting experiences of my life in the theater. I am thrilled that American audiences will have the chance to witness their stunning performances”, said Jamie Lloyd.
“This production formed the culmination of Pinter at the Pinter, an unprecedented London season of Harold Pinter’s work taking place over the 2018/19 season. This mammoth project consisted of over thirty pieces including all one-act plays by the most important playwright of the 20th century. Marking the tenth anniversary of Pinter’s death, Betrayal played in the West End theater that bears his name, breaking all box office records.”
A mainstay of the British stage, Hiddleston is best known for his roles in films such as Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Early Man, Thor: Ragnarok, Kong: Skull Island, I Saw The Light, High-Rise, Crimson Peak, Thor: The Dark World, Only Lovers Left Alive, Exhibition, The Avengers, War Horse, The Deep Blue Sea, Thor, Archipelago, Unrelated. His theater credits include: Hamlet, Coriolanus, Ivanov, Othello, Cymbeline, and The Changeling.
Zawe Ashton stars in the forthcoming feature Velvet Buzzsaw, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, on Netflix. Most recently, Zawe was seen in the six-part BBC/Netflix co-production Wanderlust co-starring Toni Collette and Steven Mackintosh. Charlie Cox was the lead in the Netflix/Marvel series Daredevil. He was most recently seen in King of Thieves. In 2014, Charlie starred opposite Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones in Working Title’s The Theory of Everything
Harold Pinter’s Betrayal premiered in 1978 at the Lyttelton Theatre at the Royal National Theatre, London. The compelling work follows a seven-year romance as it unfolded in reverse chronological order. It is one of Pinter’s most-produced and critically acclaimed plays.
The creative team for the upcoming revival of Betrayal includes scenic and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, and sound design and music by Ben and Max Ringham.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Monday, July 15.

The frontman was in Scotland in 2014 to shoot the indie flick Gold Help The Girl, which went on to earn him critical acclaim at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals.
But Olly’s soaring acting career was threatening to overtake the band’s limited success at the time when Mikey pleaded with him to stick with music instead.
And they’re all grateful that the 28-year-old Yorkshireman stayed put because their next track King shot to No1 just a few months later in March 2015.
Bassist Mikey — who will take to the Main Stage with Years & Years at the TRNSMT festival today — says: “We almost lost Olly. I actually went to visit him in Glasgow when he was making that film.
“I remember him being really worried and saying to me that if his acting career took off too much, then he might not be able to do music.
“I remember him telling me that right there in Glasgow and I was like, ‘Oh, please don’t leave.’ It was really touch-and-go for us. But we’re here now.”
The synth three-piece, which also features keyboard player and guitarist Emre Turkmen, formed in London in 2010 when Olly was invited to become lead singer after Mikey heard him singing in the shower.
But their big break wouldn’t come until five years later when King topped the charts and earned them a nomination for the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2015 BRIT Awards.
And the No1 bizarrely also brings back good memories of Scotland. Mikey explains: “The first time we played in Scotland was at King Tut’s in Glasgow in 2015. I remember it well because we got a call backstage to tell us King had just gone to No1.
“There was something poetic about King going to No1 when we were in King Tut’s.”
The group followed it up with their hit single Shine, taken from their chart-topping album Communion.
They have now grown into a genuine headlining act, taking to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last month before Kylie Minogue’s sensational set.
But Olly was the one who grabbed the headlines with a passionate LGBTQ speech to the crowd, while his image was also used at Times Square to promote Pride month.
And Mikey insists he’s quite happy for the spotlight to be on the charismatic frontman.
He jokes: “I still like being able to go to Tesco to buy loo roll.
“But his profile is not only great for the band but also all the stuff he does for the LGBTQ community as well.
“He has a platform and he uses it well to help others. His speech at Glastonbury was great. I knew he was going to do something, and I saw him practising backstage, but I didn’t want to interrupt him and ask exactly what he was going to say. I decided to give him some space.
“But then when he said it, it was a really beautiful moment. It allowed us to just take in that here we were on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and doing good a thing. Then right after us David Attenborough came on. I tried to hang around the little corridor to meet him but I think he must have had a secret entrance.
“Either that or he can teleport — as far as I’m concerned, David Attenborough can do anything.”
The musician from Melbourne also rubbed shoulders with his fellow Aussies Kylie and Nick Cave, who performed a duet.
He says: “Kylie was on after us at Glasto and I did see her backstage.
“Her set was amazing. We take inspiration from everyone. So I will see Kylie then I’ll see a metal band and I’ll be inspired by both.”
And Mikey has a Glasto memory that the fans thankfully did not get to see.
He says: “One of my highlights is when I went to the toilet — I was standing at the urinal next to Nick Cave. He’s from Melbourne just like me, but I didn’t want to have this conversation at that time.
“There has to be some urinal etiquette. There are rules and I didn’t want to break them.”
Now the trio are ready to take centre stage all over again on the opening day of TRNSMT at Glasgow Green, sharing the bill with other Glasto stars including Stormzy.
Single Mikey says: “I enjoy festivals because it’s the summer so you get a bit of sun.
“And a lot of the same bands do the circuit, so we see each other and hang out backstage and have a latte or something stronger occasionally.
“Our ‘festie friends’ are Wolf Alice, who we see a lot, and Clean Bandit. We went on tour with them early on, so we’ve got some history.
“But we’re also pretty good just in each other’s company. We’re a good group, we’ve never really had any dramas. We get on well.
“It’s like being in a little circus as you take your bus to a new land, set up in a field and see new faces. And then do it again and you’re in a new place. We all feel incredibly blessed.”
And Mikey promises: “People coming to TRNSMT can expect the same Glasto vibe. It’s going to be fun.”

NY Post: ‘Selma’ star David Oyelowo brings a song-less ‘Les Mis’ to TV
Twelve years ago, a vaguely known British actor with an unusual surname decided — like thousands of hopefuls before him — to take a gamble on moving to Hollywood.
Except that David Oyelowo, fresh from a three-year stint as intelligence officer Danny Hunter on the BBC drama “Spooks” (re-titled “MI-5” in the US), couldn’t just chuck a few things in a bag and find the nearest motel on the Sunset Strip. The actor was a married man, with two kids in tow and another on the way; this would have to be a family decision.
“We literally said, ‘Let’s sell up and give this a go,’” Oyelowo recalls. “We deliberately decided we didn’t want to have a safety net. ‘Go big or go home,’ we said. And we so nearly went home. I didn’t work for 14 months.”
It’s hard to imagine Oyelowo — who would go on to perfectly embody Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma,” star alongside Tom Cruise in “Jack Reacher,” work with Christopher Nolan in “Interstellar” and steal scenes in Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” and “The Paperboy” — struggling for a single moment. But, he tells Alexa, the struggle was real.
“We knew there may be tough times, but we didn’t know they were going to be as tough as they were,” he admits. “To make ends meet, I taught drama at [the University of Southern California] for a little bit, and that Trader Joe’s application was burning a hole in my pocket. Oh yeah, it was tough.”
Today, Oyelowo, his actor/producer wife Jessica and their four children (Asher, 17, who’s a runway model for Dolce & Gabbana; Caleb, 14, who’s keen to follow in dad’s footsteps; Penuel, 11; and Zoe, 7) are all living the California dream. Well, except for the weather part.
The actor is currently draped in a bathrobe and rolled in a blanket, shivering on an unseasonably cold beach in Playa del Rey for our Alexa cover shoot.
After it wraps, we head into his trailer, which is as warm as his personality. Oyelowo may be a serious actor, but he also laughs easily. His clipped and precise British accent, he says, is a consequence of studying drama at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. (“They knock all the London out of you,” he jokes.)
Although he’s gone on to become a huge Hollywood success by anyone’s standards — as an increasingly powerful actor, writer and soon-to-be director — those fallow 14 months left their mark.
“I don’t know — as an actor — if you ever really feel like a Trader Joe’s application is far from reach,” he says. “And that’s why I have a production company. I’m not very good at waiting by the phone for the agent to ring.”
He says he learned a great deal about the production process during the seven years it took from the “Selma” script landing on his doorstep in 2007 to the film actually being released in 2014. Oyelowo watched five directors come and go over that period, and ultimately helped to secure acclaimed director Ava DuVernay for the job.
These days, Oyelowo is doing as much of his own producing and writing as he is acting, co-founding the production company Yoruba Saxon with Jessica.
In April, his six-part TV miniseries adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic “Les Misérables” will air on PBS. Oyelowo executive produced the project and stars as Javert, alongside recent Oscar-winner Olivia Colman as Madame Thénardier and Dominic West as Valjean. And, perhaps as a surprise to Les Mis’ Broadway fans, not a single person will burst into song for the entire six-hour production.
“With six hours of television, we can offer so much more nuance and complexity and dimension than the musical could ever give you,” he says. “Plus, I just felt it really spoke to the time we’re in: the erosion of the middle class, revolution in the streets. Living here in America, I don’t think we’ve seen this many protests and marches since the civil rights movement.”
Oyelowo will also soon start work on his directorial debut, the drama “The Water Man,” which is being produced by Yoruba Saxon and ShivHans Pictures along with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films. “I’m very nervous. It’s no joke directing a movie,” he says.
That project comes on the heels of his starring role in the psychological thriller “Relive” (from horror stalwart Blumhouse Productions), which debuted in January at the Sundance Film Festival. Oyelowo describes it as “a love story between an uncle and his niece.”
“His niece gets murdered and somehow time splits, and he realizes that she is in the past and he is two weeks in the future, and he has to save her,” he explains. “It’s really just about trying to reach someone you love and take them from any harm which — as a father — is something I live with every day.”
The actor pauses to take out his phone and proudly show off a picture of his oldest boys, Asher and Caleb. Oyelowo is in the picture, too, but you can barely see him behind their towering frames. He’s an extremely proud family man.
“My mother passed away a couple of years ago, and my father came to live with us,” he says. “He gets to hang out with his grandchildren, and be looked after by me — which I think of as a huge privilege.”
His father, Stephen — a prince from Nigeria (“which sounds more impressive than it is,” Oyelowo explains modestly) — has completely adapted to LA life.
“For some reason, he’s obsessed with leaf blowing and he goes to the movies about twice a week, which he never used to do,” Oyelowo says. The family, along with their three dogs, has set up home in Tarzana, an LA suburb about 20 miles from archetypal celeb enclaves like Beverly Hills or Malibu.
“I like that it’s a bit further out, not in the middle of the crazy,” he explains. “I mean, my wife and I just kept having children, and it’s a good place to have a lot of space.
Jessica just doesn’t like cities, and where we live, people walk down the street with their horses.”
Oyelowo may have separated himself from the center of celebrity culture physically, but he’s as entwined as any A-list power player. Not that he’s entirely used to his current social circle.
“Oh, I definitely pinch myself,” he laughs. “This is going to sound so conceited to your readers, but I’m going to say it anyway. I was in my bathroom yesterday, and I was on the phone to Oprah Winfrey while Mel Gibson was texting me. I got off the phone, and I went, ‘Who are you? What is this life?’ Oprah had said to me, ‘Look at God, look at us, aren’t we blessed?’ And I went, ‘Yes. Yes we are.’”

He Took His Skin Off For Me from Ben Aston on Vimeo.
The story of a man who takes his skin off for his girlfriend, and why it probably wasn't the best idea...
BEHIND THE SCENES - vimeo.com/116467047
Please turn off the lights. Use headphones. Go full screen. It's worth it.
'He Took His Skin Off For Me' is a practical SFX fairytale. No CGI whatsoever. Based on the short story by Maria Hummer it is my grad film from the London Film School. It took myself and producer Fiona Lamptey 2 years, 217 Kickstarter backers and a whole lot of fake blood to pull off. SFX legend Colin Arthur (NeverEnding Story, 2001: A Space Odyssey) helped us achieve the impossible, allowing SFX Supervisor Jen Cardno and her team set a new standard for anatomical practical effects. Actor Sebastian Armesto (Anonymous, Pirates of the Caribbean) spent as long as 8hrs in makeup each day to bring this story to life. Alongside Anna Maguire (Saving Private Ryan, Parade's End) they both give us something wonderful, horrible and completely unique. I don’t want to tell people what the film should be. Even finding a genre to describe it is difficult. I want people to come to this film just like I came to the original story, completely unprepared.
If I can leave with one pearl of wisdom, though; if you take off your skin just to be with somebody? That’s only ever going to end messy…
