[ HoS ] ANCIENT EGYPTIAN AMULETS
The Isis knot is just as iconic as it is mysterious. It is unclear what this knot is meant to represent exactly: some Egyptologists argue it may have been a very ancient form of menstrual pad, while others believe it had religious or decorative purposes."
The Djed Pillar, representing Osiris' spine, is a powerful amulet used by both the living and the dead. Often made from various materials, it is also depicted in Egyptian art with a pair of hands and a feathered crown topped by the sun, symbolizing Osiris and divine resurrection.
The Ancient Egyptians believed the core of our intelligence and mind was the heart, rather than the brain. They couldn’t determine this latter's purpose, so during the mummification process, they discarded it, pulling it out through the nose with a hook, leaving only the essential vital organs to be preserved for the afterlife. In fact, the heart was regarded as both the source of emotions and feelings, and the seat of one's entire being—no wonder it was shaped like a vase!
Even those unfamiliar with Ancient Egyptian art recognize this iconic symbol. Over time, the Ankh, or 'Key of Life,' became synonymous with Egypt itself and its ancient religion. Some Egyptologists suggest that its shape may have been inspired by a knotted cloth, though its use was primarily decorative.
In some murals, strings of Ankh symbols were used to represent water, as it was the ultimate symbol of life for the Egyptians—everything originated from it, making the Ankh a fitting metaphor.
In other depictions, gods are shown 'spoon-feeding' pharaohs and the dead with an Ankh in their hands, symbolizing the soul being revived by the divine as it begins its journey to the afterlife."
One of the most common artifacts found by archaeologists during excavations, the Scarab is an iconic amulet that served many purposes for both the living and the dead.
In life, it was used as a seal, a protective amulet, or simply as jewelry, often worn as a ring or necklace, typically linked to a golden wire. In death, it was frequently placed around the neck and functioned as a protective charm for the heart, earning the name 'heart scarab.'
The scarab was the sacred animal of the god Khepri and symbolized the sun.
For the Ancient Egyptians, the soul was divided into several parts—nine in total, including the physical body. It was crucial that each of these parts made it to the afterlife, allowing the dead to be reborn in the Duat, the Egyptian underworld. The Ba, which represents our unique personality, was often placed on the mummy's chest so it could rest near the heart, another key component of the soul.
In Ancient Egypt, the papyrus stem was a common decorative element. Temple columns were often shaped to resemble this iconic plant. Its frequent appearance in Egyptian art was partly due to its significant color: green, the color of resurrection, sacred to the god Osiris. By placing a papyrus-shaped amulet around a mummy’s neck, the Egyptians believed it would ensure eternal youth for the soul in the afterlife.
The Eye of Horus, modeled after the left eye of the falcon god of kingship, is one of the most iconic symbols of Ancient Egypt. Found in numerous tombs, it was continuously produced from the late Old Kingdom through to the Roman period. It served both as an amulet to ward off evil and as a decoration on boats and mummies. Representing the moon and the righteous nature of the god, it is also closely connected to other benevolent deities, such as Osiris, Thoth, and Ma'at. Tied to the story of Horus's restored eye, it became a symbol of health and healing.
Used exclusively in funerary contexts, this peculiar amulet depicts the index and middle fingers of a right hand, which were believed to 'heal' the incision made by embalmers to remove the mummy’s organs during the mummification process.

❤️🔥 asteroid valentine through the houses ❤️🔥
Asteroid Valentine (447) isn't just another mundane space rock orbiting the Sun 🌞; it was discovered on October 27, 1899, by the eagle-eyed French astronomer Auguste Charlois 👀🇫🇷. Standing out from the crowd of generic asteroids adrift in the cosmic expanse, this one boasts some serious pizzazz, seemingly nodding to Saint Valentine himself—the icon of all things mushy and romantic 💘, immortalized by legends and the gooey celebrations of Valentine's Day. Bearing the name Valentine, it's no shocker this asteroid has turned into the cosmic hotspot 🔥 for unraveling the enigmas of pulse racing obsession. It's like the universe's own twisted cupid 🏹💖, laying bare the types of swooners you magnetize and their lovestruck shenanigans when they're utterly smitten with you.
❤️🔥 1st House: In the 1st house, you attract the “Shadow Follower”. This individual is mesmerized by your very presence and seems to be wherever you are, blending into the background but always watching. They admire everything about you, from the way you walk to the way you talk, often mimicking your style or interests in an attempt to close the gap between you. Be aware you may attract narcissists.
❤️🔥 2nd House: When Valentine graces your 2nd house, it brings the “Lavish Obsessor” into your life. This person showers you with gifts and material symbols of affection, believing that the key to your heart is through extravagant displays of wealth. Their obsession lies in owning the best, and that includes their relationship with you. They see you as a prize to be won, a luxury to be possessed. You are the ultimate trophy.
❤️🔥 3rd House: In the 3rd house, the “Conversation Hacker” is drawn to you. This individual hangs on your every word, obsessively analyzing texts and conversations for hidden meanings. They're likely to deep dive into your social media history, bringing up topics or inside jokes you barely remember, demonstrating an unsettling level of interest in your thoughts and communications. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of weirdos in your DM’s.
❤️🔥 4th House: With Valentine in the 4th house, you attract the “Home Invasion Romantic”. This partner wants to be so involved in your life that they overstep boundaries, wanting to move in too soon or redecorate your space to suit what they believe is best for "us." They're fixated on creating a domestic bliss that you didn't sign up for, insisting on being your ultimate comfort but in a way that feels more invasive than nurturing.
❤️🔥 5th House: When Valentine visits your 5th house, it brings the “Jealous Admirer” into your love life. This type is intoxicated by your creativity and zest for life but is also fiercely envious of anyone else who shares your attention. They want to be your muse and your audience, the only one you perform for, often leading to dramatic displays of jealousy that can turn any romantic scene into a thriller. Fatal Attraction VIBES.
❤️🔥 6th House: In the 6th house, you draw the “Routine Stalker”. This individual is obsessed with your daily routines and habits, often rearranging their schedule to "coincidentally" bump into you. They take note of your likes, dislikes, and even your coffee order, using this information to craft themselves into the perfect partner, always just one step away from being too much in sync with your life. This placement can turn dangerous, watch your back.
❤️🔥 7th House: Valentine in the 7th house attracts the “Binding Contract Lover”. This person sees your relationship as a deal that's been sealed, treating every interaction like a contractual obligation forever. They're intensely committed to the idea of "us against the world," often pushing for commitments or declarations of love that feel more like chains than choices. Those with this placement are likely to cheat on long-term partners, unsure how to escape unhappy relationships.
❤️🔥 8th House: With Valentine in the 8th house, the “Soul Chain Romantic” is drawn to you. This lover believes in a connection that transcends the physical, claiming a depth of bond that feels more like a possession. They're drawn to your darkness and secrets, wanting to merge in ways that erase individual boundaries, but this is a placement that also draws sexually deviant partners your way.
❤️🔥 9th House: In the 9th house, you attract the “Obsessive Quester”. This partner is obsessed with the idea of you as their ultimate quest, an adventure to be conquered. They're drawn to your beliefs and philosophies but twist them to fit their narrative of a grand love story, often pushing you into roles and situations that feel more epic in their head than in reality. Expect a lot of love bombing followed by ghosting with this placement.
❤️🔥 10th House: Valentine in the 10th house brings the “Public Claimer” into your orbit. This individual is obsessed with how the relationship looks to the outside world, constantly posting, tagging, and declaring their love for you in very public ways. They're more interested in the status of being with you than the actual connection, often putting on a show of affection that feels performative rather than genuine.
❤️🔥 11th House: In the 11th house, Valentine attracts the “Ideological Chameleon”, someone who obsessively aligns with your hopes, dreams, and social circles. They seamlessly adopt your interests and ideologies, aiming to become your perfect match. This partner integrates so deeply into your world that they begin to mirror you, losing their individuality in the process. They are harmless though, usually truly loving you. Just don’t break their heart, they might end up dating your BFF out of revenge.
❤️🔥 12th House: With Valentine in the 12th house, you draw in the “Phantom Soulmate”. This partner feels a deep, unseen connection to you, believing they knew you in a past life. They love from the shadows, perhaps through anonymous gestures or silent admiration, convinced of a spiritual link between you. This is actually my favorite Valentine placement, think of the Gomez Adams to Morticia.

Into the Earth (Hyunjin, spicy?)
Hyunjin x f!reader
multi-chapter fic
AU
happens a few years in the future
Hyunjin is in his post-idol era. Working as an artist and fashion icon.
Warnings: mentions of scamming, dishonesty, abusive people and various kinds of abuse, parasites (and not the Bong Joon Ho clever kind), misogyny (but not Hyunjin!), ageism. Nudity (Hyunjin). More to be added with later chapters.
This is in no way meant as a commentary on the real persons depicted here. They all deserve the world.
Please be kind.
Please do not report this post. If it's not your thing, just scroll away.
If you're underage, please scroll on, there is nothing for you here.
If you enjoy this story and are reading along, I would love to hear your comments in the replies, reblogs or DMs - however you feel most comfortable.
Like I mentioned, this story is finished, but I will slightly change its course based on the way the chapters are received.
Story title is inspired by a Lorna Shore song
Part 2 Song for this chapter:
Part 3 - Under the sun Hyunjin’s room has a white, hard bed and a window where the old grape vine reaches and birds come to sit and sing in the mornings. The sun filters in through the vine leaves at all hours of the day, so it’s never direct and too hot. There’s a heater in there too, for the winter months, a table and sockets to charge his devices. Hyunjin only took his phone, but the place has wi-fi and it’s really fast and stable. He doesn’t even go through one battery charge during the day now, because he doesn’t use his phone unless it’s before bed for a few minutes. Usually he’s tired, but the good kind, and he falls asleep without having to do techniques or take pills for it. There’s a bathroom down the hallway and several more on the lower floors. First thing he did when he got there was to pause his subscription, to avoid boxes of uneaten fruit and veg to pile up and rot outside his apartment door back in Paris.
Work is, in fact, hard, but he loves it. It demands both strength and gentleness from him, since a lot of what he is assigned to do is picking fruit and placing it in baskets, or making the boxes for the people who subscribe to the farm’s products, like he did until now. He’s already seen the trees he adopted in situ. He’s also seen the other workers and the owner talk to the trees, hug them or kiss their bark. He feels like the odd one out for not yet daring to be so overt in his enthusiasm for the work. He now automatically wakes up early, while it’s still dark outside, to help with breakfast and to switch on the irrigation system. Because he knows his way with technology, Paloma, his shift lead, trusts him with more of the technical stuff.
Paloma is about his mom’s age, Hyunjin suspects, but he is not sure because she is full of energy, has the gorgeously tanned skin of the people in this coastal region and shiny, awesome long black hair that curls cheekily like a frame around her face. She wears big hoop earrings and bright red lipstick and nail polish. At first, she was intimidating, but Hyunjin now knows she is nice, kind and empathetic. Also, she has a voice that projects across the fields with no amplifier or other tech help. She helped him when he first joined the farm, got him settled in, showed him where everything is and introduced him to everyone. Paloma has a Turkish husband, Eren, who is the owner of the most epic twirled moustache and a unibrow that could intimidate even JYP on its own. He is bald and massive, and Hyunjin knows Eren could pop him open like a bean pod with one hand only. There is so much strength in those corded arms and thick thighs, from a life of work outdoors. But Eren is also a fantastic cook and he helped Hyunjin the first time he had to cook for the entire group. Together, they made vegan pide, a Turkish specialty that looks like dough boats with a spiced veggie and vegan minced meat filling. The Spanish touch to the recipe are the roasted and peeled red peppers, which add so much flavour and smokiness to the finished dish. Hyunjin learned that day that being bold with spices can take even the blandest recipe to chef-y heights even Han wouldn’t dream of writing about. “Ever made dough before, my boy?” Eren asked him, getting a big jar of flour from the pantry. Everything in the kitchen at the farm is supersized, because the dishes have to feed many. Hyunjin has made dough before, but not the kind that needs yeast, so he shook his head. “It’s easy. One cube of yeast for five hundred grams of flour. Five hundred grams feeds four.” “So we need… two kilos?” Hyunjin tried to see if he got it right. “Yes. And ten grams of salt per five hundred grams, that’s two and three quarter tablespoons. A tablespoon of sea salt is fifteen grams, remember that.” Eren told him. “In time you will learn to eyeball it, but for now it’s best to do some maths and taste every step along the way.”
The recipe was simple and with very few ingredients, but it turned out sensationally tasty in the end. Eren let Hyunjin have all the credit and made sure to tell everyone at the table that Hyunjin’s hard work had brought them their lovely meal. There are two women from Ghana, Cass and Kree, who said grace before they dug into what Hyunjin and Eren had made, and who told God to be good to Hyunjin who made sure everyone got to eat so well. Later, they taught Hyunjin to make jollof rice, but after they argued over the correct recipe and the correct order of adding the ingredients. Hyunjin was very stressed on the day it was his turn to cook for everyone. But with Eren’s help and everyone else’s praise, he prevailed, and the feeling he was left with at the end of the day was indescribable. He felt like he was walking on clouds.
Some days, the dawn finds Hyunjin walking across the fields, to the orchard, where he takes his shoes and socks off and walks on the dewy grass, absolutely loving the feeling and feeling recharged. On the days when no one else is outside yet, he even takes off every stitch of clothing and lets the cool morning air and the fresh sunlight bathe him and rebuild him anew. It feels less like having his dick out on a farm and more like a luxury all the money he ever made as an idol couldn’t buy. He’s not usually the type to want to have his dick out to the world, but he’s repressed every part of himself since he was a child, for a very long time, and it’s just so good to no longer have to.
The air just smells different, more fragrant, more alive. Birds sing louder here and the few animals who roam the farm are kept as friends, not as slaves. He’s already befriended the owner’s dogs, two black Doberman Pinscher called Hans and Franz and a poodle called Nube.
He hasn’t seen himself in a full-length mirror since he got here. There’s a mirror in the bathroom he uses, and he sometimes shaves in it, but most of the time he doesn’t give a fuck because he’s in a hurry to get to the field, to the orchard or to the gardens. The other men working there have teased him about his anaemic moustache and patchy beard, but the women all love them for some reason. And Hyunjin simply doesn’t find the time to feel self-conscious about the hair that grows on him while he is busy and fully immersed in his tasks.
The summer sun gave Hyunjin’s skin a golden hue, but no tan lines, and he considers himself lucky, although he would not care much if he did have tan lines. His white coworkers also don’t care about theirs. He hasn’t been this carefree, confident and at peace with himself since he became an adult. Part 4

KinnPorsche Music in Context: Episode One
It needs to be said: I started thinking about how a few of the songs used as KinnPorsche background music had incredibly apt or punny titles months ago. It’s been sort of poking around in my head that it might be some light, surface level meta to collect!
Ho boy was I wrong. I don’t know what I expected because absolutely nothing in KinnPorsche is just surface level. In episode one, I have already found several hysterical jokes, commentary on the shifting power dynamics, water symbolism, and many more gems.
Here is the link to my episode one Spotify playlist. I know there are quite a few playlists out there, but even scouring three of them, I still found additional songs that were not cited or mentioned.
There are 37 (yes, you read that correctly, 37!) songs in episode one and that's in addition to a handful of reprisals, so the insanely long list is under the cut.
For other episodes (as I get to them), go here!
We start, of course, with our beloved theme song, เพียงไว้ใจ (or PhiangWaichai) by Slot Machine. There’s plenty of thoughts on this, I’m not digging into it.
Introducing Kinn – Quantum Sonata by FormantX.
Kinn and Big head into the Italian’s den – Our Final Mission by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen. This is the last time Big will join Kinn on a mission as his head bodyguard (I’m not crying, you’re crying.)
Introducing Don and the Italian gang – Waltz for Little Italy by Bireli Snow.
Introducing Porsch – Diggin' the Drama by The New Fools.
Kinn making accusations and Porsche mixing drinks hoping to get lucky – Covert Affairs by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen.
After Kinn's iconic "I'm more like my mom," we are introduced to the song that makes the most appearances this episode: Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, L’estate (Summer) composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Now here’s where the KinnPorsche crew start to do what they do best: give us things to obsess over and over analyze.
The concerto has 3 movements and to be honest I’m not 100% sure that they pull from only one of them for the show. Remember when I said I wasn’t musically inclined? If anyone wants to chime in, please do.
Another fun thing about this Concerto? It is traditionally associated with or accompanied by a trio of sonnets (one for each movement). Oh, did I mention Vivaldi was Italian? Themes.
Anyway, the sonnets translated from Italian to English:
I. Allegro non molto– Under the heat of the burning summer sun, Languish man and flock; the pine is parched. The cuckoo finds its voice, and suddenly, The turtledove and goldfinch sing. A gentle breeze blows, But suddenly, the north wind appears. The shepherd weeps because, overhead, Lies the fierce storm, and his destiny. II. Adagio; Presto– His tired limbs are deprived of rest By his fear of lightning and fierce thunder, And by furious swarms of flies and hornets. III. Presto– Alas, how just are his fears, Thunder and lightening fill the Heavens, and the hail Slices the tops of the corn and other grain.
Source
Porsche and his fanclub at Hum Bar – Late Nights by Daxton.
When Yok calls Porsche over to the bar – Mysterious Madeline by Lucas Pittman.
As Kinn is driving over the bridge and they realize they're being followed (and when Porsche is making eyes at the woman across the bar) – Road of Fury by John Abbot.
Big and Kinn fleeing into the tunnels when Big is shot and Kinn is being chased down – They Are Coming by Hampus Naeselius.
There is a brief snippet here with a snare drum and a cymbal (I think?) when Porsche is cheekily asking Kinn for money and pissing in a bottle, but I couldn’t isolate it enough to find it. Any help would be appreciated!
Here, we’re introduced to the perfect fights song, Absolute Power by Hampus Naeselius, when Porsche beats down the street thugs and drives off with Kinn.
She Knocks by Lukas Amil plays when Porsche is being a brat and leaves Kinn at the gas station.
When Porsche comes home to Chay bandaging up Arthee – In Rain - Indigo Days. Can you say water symbolism?
The Joys And Sorrows of Life by Johannes Bornlöf gives a little hope when Porsche and Arthee are sitting and talking about finances and how much they could make off Kinn’s watch.
Porsche at the underground fighting ring has three songs in quick succession: Back to Where it Began by Rockin' For Decades,
Second Hand Slide by Lucas Pittman,
And Around the Bend by Pip Mondy as he turns the fights to his favor. [It is worth noting that they use a sort of stripped down version during most of it, but I couldn't find that version, so they may have done it themselves]
When Porsche comes home to Chay and Arthee celebrating making so much money off the watch we get Gentleman at Heart by Indigo Days. I think this one’s interesting because I’m actually not sure if it’s about Arthee or Porsche…
When Don finds his men tied up and (maybe dead?) – Let Me Introduce Myself by Rune Dale. This comes right after the scene where Korn chastises Kinn for his decision to enrage Don instead of “giving him gifts.” This is Kinn telling Don exactly how he plans to run things and how very different he is from his father. Kinn's mother must have been ruthless with a good sense of humor.
When Kinn asks Chan about finding Jom/Porsche, we're back to Vivaldi’s Concerto. Like the shepherd, Porsche's Destiny hangs over his head.
College Porsche and his stolen pastry get Moonshiner's Turn by Martin Landström.
Jom is approached to act as "a waiter who's actually the greatest boxer undercover,” our dear theater kid gets Concert Hall Hideout by Stationary Sign.
A moment later when Porsche realizes he's been caught? Cheese! by Alexandra Woodward. [This one is not on the Spotify playlist but I did find it on Epidemic Sound.]
When Porsche calls Chay, worried that Chay may be targeted or even taken by Kinn? Extraction by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen. Which is a truly horrible double entendre because the very next song is
Clogged Up by Jerry Lacey. I'm not even dignifying this scene with a response.
Kinn sweet talking Yok (with veiled threats) – Infiltrator by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen.
Porsche’s kidnapping – Honor the Brave by Hampus Naeselius.
Kinn reading Porsche his own biography – Beryllium - Farrell Wooten. Beryllium is, according to a brief google search, a natural metal that is expensive, brittle, and dangerous to work with (toxic).
Porsche's fight theme – Absolute Power. Except who has the power this time?
Brief reprise of She Knocks as Kinn once again watches Porsche walk away from him (or throw himself off the boat in this case).
When Korn and Kinn discuss how to force Porsche, and moving into the next scene when Porsche finds Chay cleaning up after another break-in, and through to Porsche finding Thee being beaten up – The Stakeout by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen.
When the loan shark tells Porsche that Thee still owes despite Porsche believing they had paid things off, leading to Porsche forcefully kicking Thee out of his and Chay's life? Ghosting by Christopher Moe Ditlevsen.
When Porsche finally tells Thee to leave and after, when Porsche goes home alone to clean up his ruined house, we get one of my all time favorites – Bitter Heart - Instrumental Version by Memi. Although the soundtrack presumably uses the instrumental version, I would argue that the lyrics were taken into account when choosing it:
“Suddenly you look like a stranger A face I knew, but I must've forgotten … We know we could've done it better Fought for the little things that we wanted … Oh, I wish that you hadn't pulled the trigger Shot me down with my bitter heart My blood is getting thicker You shot me down, you shot me down With my bitter heart”
This is getting way too long, so I cut some of the lyrics but I strongly recommend checking out the original.
As Chay tells Porsche that their parents would be proud of him, there is a very brief reprisal of In Rain.
It then switches to No More Drama by Eric Feinberg as they hug and Porsche tucks Chay in. This calls back to the song that first accompanied Porsche, Diggin’ the Drama, and Porsche has made his decision. He can't keep living like this and he can't let Chay live like this either.
Porsche's letter and Kinn pouring himself a drink – a reprisal of Gentleman at Heart.
During the famous "your life is mine" scene where, at least in the translation, Porsche asks if Kinn is a god, we get a third reprisal of the Concerto. Porsche's destiny is set, the storm has blown in and ruined his life leaving him desperate.
When Porsche confronts Korn and asks to be Big and Ken's boss and through to Korn Playing Chess – So to Say by Taylor Crane
At which point we get one, final reprise of the Concerto as Korn places the Queen on the board and the game begins.
Finally – Free Fall by Slot Machine.
And, in the interest of being thorough....
Episode Two Preview – Global Impact by Philip Ayers.
#fucking hell#that was way more than i expected#i tried to go back and reduce my commentary#but whatever#i worked really hard on this 🥲#kprewatch2023#kinnporsche meta#kinnporsche the series#music analysis#sort of#help i'm stuck in a rabbit hole#would also love feedback on whether i should maybe break these up in the future? this is so massive...#i guess i could have cut back on the songs i didn't really get but#the whole point was to be comprehensive and allow people to draw their own conclusions#so

Let's (re)Read The Great Hunt! Chapter 2: The Welcome
Spoiler alert: I forgot to discuss chapter icons last time. It's terrible, breaking such a successful streak. I have toh. If you don't know what that is, be aware, because I'm perfectly happy to spoil everything about this whole damn series if you're not careful. Look away if that bothers you.
Anyway, chapter icons. Last time was another wheel and serpent, which probably reflects both how Rand is being pulled by the Pattern to stay put despite his desires and how the Dark One's touch is beginning to corrupt it more blatantly with the proto-bubble. This time we get the Flame of Tar Valon, because the Amyrlin Seat is visiting.
“Ho, southlander! The Amyrlin’s here. Come for you and your friends, I suppose. Peace, what honor for you! She seldom leaves Tar Valon, and she’s never come to the Borderlands in my memory.”
A) This and several other bits of dialogue is a delightful way for the denizens of the fortress to be tormenting Rand about the trap that he's found himself caught in without realizing it (one of my favorite kinds of dialogue).
B) I can't help but feel that this is another bit of failure on the part of the Tower. An Amyrlin who tours the continent regularly and brings a retinue with her would be yet another way to be building positive relations with the populace, helping them and encouraging them not to see the Aes Sedai as wicked witches. Hopefully it's something they pick up on as the Fourth Age goes on.
The women barely glanced at him, and went right on clearing his clothes—and Mat’s and Perrin’s—out of the wardrobe and replacing them with new. Anything found in the pockets was put atop the chests, and the old clothes were bundled up carelessly, like rags.
I don't know if this is Moiraine's outright shittiest act as mentor, but damn if it's not up there. You know who else pulls this crap in this series? Tylin, because it's abusive as all hell. Moiraine had a fucking month to get the boys fancier clothes in less coercive ways and if she'd done it shortly after the Eye it wouldn't have even been a hard sell because Rand and Perrin would have been happy to wear comfy new clothes after the hell month they went through (Mat would have been an easy sell regardless once he saw something with lace; would have been harder to get him not to empty Moiraine's purse at that point).
It could be a scullion or the Lady Amalisa, Lord Agelmar’s sister herself—the baths were one place in Shienar where there was no rank—expecting him to scrub her back in return for the same favor, asking him why his face was so red, had he taken too much sun? They had soon learned to recognize his blushes for what they were, and not a woman in the keep but seemed fascinated by them.
We're supposed to laugh at the provincial bumpkin for not understanding how awesome it is that he's getting to bathe with regulation hotties, but really between this and the maids expecting him to change out of his underwear in front of him (and making a point to look) is just way too skeevy.
His boots, at least, were certainly still good, made by Alwyn al’Van, the cobbler back in Emond’s Field, and well broken in and comfortable. But if giving up his boots would make the shatayan leave him alone so he could go, he would give her the boots, and anything else she wanted. He had no time.
It is way too early in these books for me to feel this bad for Rand.
Light help me! Was it Amalisa had this made, or Moiraine? How many saw it? How many know what it is, what it means? Even one is too many. Burn me, she’s trying to get me killed. Bloody Moiraine won’t even talk to me, but now she’s given me bloody fine new clothes to die in!
It's absolutely incredible how badly Moiraine is handling this. Is she just conceptualizing this as being the same as how she had to wear novice robes as a girl? Did Elaida's personal tutoring before Moiraine's becoming an Aes Sedai get a nice cycle of abuse going for her to perpetuate?
Muttering under his breath, he dressed hurriedly. He would not put it past any of them to find some excuse to come bulling in anyway.
Just like Donald Trump.
He had seen women picking out embroidery when they had made a mistake or changed their mind on the pattern, and it did not look very hard.
Rand, you spent your entire childhood including your most significant growth spurts living in the backwoods of the ass end of nowhere with no one except your dad. I can understand embroidery not being your thing because it's not utilitarian, but you should damn well know that there's a difference between fixing your work before it's done and ripping out embroidery after the fact.
Thom Merrilin had taught him to play that flute, before the gleeman died. Rand could never touch it without remembering Thom, with his sharp blue eyes and his long white mustaches, shoving the bundled cloak into his hands and shouting for him to run. And then Thom had run himself, knives appearing magically in his hands as if he were performing, to face the Myrddraal that was coming to kill them.
Dammit Rand, Moiraine told you that the odds of Thom being dead were literally zero in infinity, stop thinking he's dead.
His unstrung bow stood propped in the corner with Mat’s and Perrin’s, the stave two hands taller than he was. He had made it himself since coming to Fal Dara, and besides him, only Lan and Perrin could draw it. Stuffing his blanketroll and his new cloak through the loops on his bundles, he slung the pair from his left shoulder, tossed his saddlebags atop the cords, and grabbed the bow. Leave the sword-arm free, he thought. Make them think I’m dangerous. Maybe somebody will.
The funny part is, Rand actually does look dangerous now. Lan told him that bullies would leave him alone. He never believes anything anyone tells him, it's no wonder no one tries to communicate with him later on.
He would never see legendary Tar Valon—he could not afford that risk, now or ever—but he might catch a glimpse of the Amyrlin Seat before he left. That would be as much as seeing a queen.
Rand's getting pulled around by the Pattern again, since he's already met a queen in person and you'd think he'd have learned his lesson from that.
He could easily see over the heads of most of them, enough to make out clearly what was going on in the courtyard. Just inside the main gate, a line of men stood beside their horses, fourteen of them. ... A dozen paces in front of the Warders, a row of women stood by their horses’ heads, the cowls of their cloaks thrown back. He could count them, now. Fourteen. Fourteen Aes Sedai.
Funny that there's an equal number of Warders to Aes Sedai, since that isn't a guarantee. We don't know all the Aes Sedai among the ranks, but we do know that at least two (Liandrin and Carlinya) didn't have Warders, possibly three (Serafelle's never clarified either way). Alanna is the only green we know about and she has two Warders, which covers for one of the gaps. Possibly Siuan's Warder is in the ranks here as well, which covers the other gap for certain. Also note that Leane is not one of these fourteen Aes Sedai, which means that sixteen came altogether counting her and Siuan. Regardless, I'm not tagging anyone except those mentioned individually.
Suddenly Ronan rapped his staff loudly three times on the broad paving stones, calling into the silence, “Who comes here? Who comes here? Who comes here?” The woman beside the palanquin tapped her staff three times in reply. “The Watcher of the Seals. The Flame of Tar Valon. The Amyrlin Seat.” “Why should we watch?” Ronan demanded. “For the hope of humankind,” the tall woman replied. “Against what do we guard?” “The shadow at noon.” “How long shall we guard?” “From rising sun to rising sun, so long as the Wheel of Time turns.”
We see so little of pomp and circumstance in these books despite humanity's love of silly rituals that I gotta quote in full the stuff that does show up. Also note how the ritual emphasizes the shadow as something wrong and fundamentally against the natural order. It's understandable why Rand came to the conclusion he had to kill the Dark One.
The tall woman drew back the curtain of the palanquin, and the Amyrlin Seat stepped out. Dark-haired, ageless as all Aes Sedai were ageless, she ran her eyes over the assembled watchers as she straightened. Rand flinched when her gaze crossed him; he felt as if he had been touched. But her eyes passed on and came to rest on Lord Agelmar.
Rand honey, you're the only Aielman in two hundred miles and you're the tallest man in the room. Of course she saw you.
He did not want to think of what would have happened if she knew who he was, what he was. What would happen when she finally found out. He wondered if she had had anything to do with the wind atop the tower; Aes Sedai could do things like that.
Rand is so completely wrong about Siuan on every level that it wraps around from stupid to adorable to stupid again. No Rand, the Amyrlin Seat didn't try to assassinate you from a distance through her magic scrying mirror. That's not even a thing.
It was his name that caused the problem, and a similarity. Rand al’Thor. Al’Lan Mandragoran. For Lan, according to the custom of Malkier, the royal “al” named him King, though he never used it himself. For Rand, “al” was just a part of his name, though he had heard that once, long ago, before the Two Rivers was called the Two Rivers, it had meant “son of.” Some of the servants in Fal Dara keep, though, had taken it to mean he was a king, too, or at least a prince.
No doubt in Manetheren "al" did mean royalty and only transferred to "son of" once the interbreeding led to it being so common a name.
“Yes, my Lord. The order came down only a short time ago. Only moments.” Tema’s voice picked up strength. “All the gates are closed as well, my Lord. None may enter or leave without permission. Not even the city patrol, so Tema has been told.”
Poor Rand, if he'd only controlled himself he would have arrived before the order and could have escaped. What a horribly unlikely coincidence!
Rand broke into a run. He just had time to see the surprise on Tema’s face, and then he was gone. He did not care what Tema thought. She will be sending for me now.
Rand, you know what would really make Tema think you were normal, unremarkable, and definitely not the Dragon Reborn? If you spent some time muttering to yourself or maybe burst into tears for no reason. Not a single male channeler in the world does that.
Ah well. Next time, we'll watch Rand try and fail to escape his date with destiny.

This is for installing Sun Haven mods from Nexus on a Windows PC. I don't know about Mac or Steam Deck. (Updated for Patch 1.7)
Each section of these instructions assumes you have read the previous sections and already finished those steps.
If you need more help, check out the Sun Haven Discord #game-mods channel!
----------
To install BepInEx (you can install from github or Nexus, I found the Nexus one to be easier):
1) Download this file: https://www.nexusmods.com/sunhaven/mods/30
2) Find where it was downloaded, right click, and unzip/extract it. If there is no unzip/extract option, you'll need to download a program that can do that, such as 7zip.
3) In a separate window, find where your game files are located. You can do this by opening Steam, opening the game screen in your library, clicking the gear icon, going to "Manage," and clicking "Browse local files." This should put you in a folder called "Sun Haven." Otherwise, you can likely find it by opening file explorer, then navigating to This PC -> C: -> Program Files (x86) -> Steam -> steamapps -> common -> Sun Haven
4) Find the mod you unzipped. Either drag or cut+paste the folder called "BepInEx" into the "Sun Haven" folder.
5) Also drag or cut+paste "doorstop_config.ini" and "winhttp.dll" into the "Sun Haven" folder. Your computer might not show the ini or dll file extensions, that's fine, they're still the same files.
BepInEx should now be set up. It's probably a good idea to start up the game, make sure things are still working. I think running the game will also generate a LogOutput file.
The above picture is what the inside of your “Sun Haven” folder should look like. It should have these three things the arrows are pointing to, if you downloaded from Nexus.
The above picture is what the inside of your “BepInEx” folder should look like, though you might not have a LogOutput until you run the game.
----------
To install other mods that use BepInEx (which I believe is all the Sun Haven mods on Nexus, but you should always read mod descriptions for instructions):
1) Download the mod you want.
2) Unzip the download.
3) Open the "BepInEx" folder we were just talking about.
4) Open the "plugins" folder.
5) Drag the dll file into the "plugins" folder. Your computer might not show the dll file extension, but it will be the only file in many mods (though there are some that also include folders that need to be moved too).
Note: ReadMe and info files, if they're included, have no effect and do not need to be put into the "plugins" folder. They are just instructions, credit, or extra info for you about the mod.
Now you can open the game and test if the mod is working. If you installed BepInEx from the Nexus download, you should be able to open the configuration manager by pressing F1, and you can use that to turn mods on/off or make adjustments to them. Some mods might not show up there, I'm not sure, but many will.
The above picture is an example of what the inside of your “plugins” folder might look like, though it will have different folders and files, depending on what you’ve downloaded. You may not have any folders. You also may not have the dll file extension showing.
----------
To install custom textures:
1) Download the Custom Textures Updated mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/sunhaven/mods/278/
*Note: There is an old Custom Textures mod that no longer works. Make sure you're using the one I've linked to if you are playing the latest version of the game.
2) Unzip it.
3) Put the "CustomTextures.dll" file into the "plugins" folder.
4) Start up the game. This should create a folder called "CustomTextures" inside the "plugins" folder. If it doesn't, you can right click and create a new folder and name it that yourself.
5) Download other mods with the custom textures you want.
6) Unzip them.
7) Place the image (png) files into the "CustomTextures" folder. (You can put the png files directly into the "CustomTextures" folder, or you can create more folders for organization. However, if you have two files with the same name, none of your custom textures will work. So the safest thing is to put all the png files directly into "CustomTextures." That way you can be sure you don't have any duplicates.)
8) Open your game, and the new textures should be working. If they’re not, open the configuration manager (F1) and make sure Custom Textures is toggled on.
----------
General Mod Notes:
When using mods, always make backups of your save files (copy+paste them to somewhere else on your computer), just in case. That's a good thing to do every so often regardless of mods. You can probably find savef in your computer files in C: -> Users -> YourName -> AppData -> LocalLow -> Pixel Sprout Studios -> Sun Haven -> Saves
You may need to change your computer settings to show hidden files, if you can't find the "AppData" folder.
If you need to use a backup, just delete the file from the "Saves" folder and then copy+paste your backup into the folder.
Whenever the game updates, mods may break. In which case, you'll just have to play without some mods or wait for modders to update them (if they update them). Then you replace the old files with the new files.
There might be some mods on Nexus that no longer work. Others haven't been updated for years but still work perfectly. Sometimes you just have to test things. If something goes wrong, that's what backup saves are for :-)
