“H-hey they…well…” He stopped mid-sentence because the last thing he wanted to admit out loud was the case files were both boring to read and if he stared at the text long enough he can’t discern dots of text on the paper.
“Right yesir…” It was like he was being scold for the umpteenth time before his mind could start mulling what he said he …might’ve imagined it. Was he judging him?
“Huh? W-what n-no of course not haha. I just….don’t like being surprised all the sudden hahaha….” Isn’t that the same thing as being scared? “C-come on sir, I know those things don’t exist. I’m…more scared of you to be quite honest haha.”
That sure was one way to put it. Dojima shook his head at Adachi’s answer, right of course he wasn’t scared. Sure. The last remark made Dojima chuckle though - more afraid of him? Oh, he should give Adachi a reason to be afraid.
“If that’s the case then maybe you should get overtime with no pay, then you’ll really be afraid of me.” sure Dojima coul dbe short tempered but he jus wanted Adachi to succeed it wasn’t as though he had been bullying him.
Ok and he wasn’t going to do overtime without pay that’s illegal !

Hikari nods, “Yeah, it’s probably not.”
She wonders for a brief moment as to why this person started killing people. If they were a resident of Inaba, given that this is such a small town, it could be possible that this person simply grew bored. Extreme boredom could cause a person to do all sorts of things if they were desperate enough to seek some form of entertainment.
“…Perhaps they’re bored.” Her reply is simple. There is no emotion behind her words. This was her theory. And she could relate to it in one way or another.
Dojima was surprised at Hikari’s response -- was boredom really a good motive to commit a murder? He supposed not, especially not for any normal person. Even if that could be the potential motive of this killer, their methods still didn’t make any sense. He shook his head.
“I dunno... That doesn’t sound like a good reason.” So strange that she would suggest a reasoning like this it almost made her sound suspicious. “Boredom is never a good reason to take a life.”

Sayaka can only sigh before offering him a small smile, “Alright…I’ll walk you home then.” She spares a quick glance at the bartender who waves at her, also offering a small smile as she resists rolling her eyes.
“Well then…Lead the way, but um….” She hesitates before quickly offering her hand to him, “Best that we not have you stumble on the floor yes? Just hold to my hand for a moment okay?”
“Thanksss!” Dojima really did appreciate it even if he was probably being a real clingy customer at this point. He hoped at least this way she could get some kind of break from her time at her job, but even then she was now tasked with trying to help a very drunk Dojima get home.
“Oohhh yes...” he noticed that she had been offered her hand it took him a moment but he took it and gently leaned on her for some support. “S’this way...” at least so he thought. “Hhheyy... Thanks a lot really.... You’re so nicee!”

Rei follows him. For a moment, she wonders what place he’s talking about and if she’s ever been there before.
“Well, there’s a few things on my mind. I don’t remember if I ever told, you but I’m working on getting a degree in criminology. So I thought, since you’re a detective and all, I could ask you some stuff about the profession.”
There’s a thoughtful look on her face as she tells him this. Gray eyes glanc to the side to watch him.
This was the first time Dojima has head of Rei’s educational endeavors, well, he would be more than happy to try to help her out with some advice. Although it has been awhile since he’s been in school.
“I see. Yeah, of course you can ask. I’ll try to answer as best as I can, I’m pretty sure things have changed a lot since my university days but I’ll try my best.”
Not many people had asked him for advice, it was actually quite flattering.

It was almost immediately that Eikichi had sort of regretted the way he tends to speak about himself. Sounding over confident did not always go down well with strangers and had caused a few people to punch him in the past.
“ Eh there’s the same amount of work in my job than there is for others. It comes easy when you know what you’re doin’. “
That made a lot of sense. Dojima supposed that every job needed work to be put in to have a good outcome. Especially with music too... Since there had been so many musicians out there that wanted to make it big.
“I see. Makes sense. I’ve never understood how people have the patience to learn an instrument. I never even bothered trying.”

A flicker of a smile, perhaps some fondness which he swiftly turned his gaze to the town outside. He might call him annoying, persistent, ‘slave driver’ partner he does appreciate him pressing him to join them for dinner.
“Yeah yeah no need to tell me twice that I’m rude too. Though if all the sudden I’m polite you’ll probably freak out and ask if I’m sick or something. O-oh.. ah.. I see.”
Too quiet huh?… No wonder she seems to brighten up when he arrives.
“Is that permission to be…not quiet?” While his statement came off really lame. The man had the audacity to look at Dojima with a smug grin on his face.
Adachi’s remark made him chuckle. He supposed that was true, if suddenly Adachi had acted differently then maybe Dojima would have a reaction from that too. It seemed that he always had something to say about any little change around him, but that was the kind of person Dojima was.
“Heh, you’re right, but I do think you really should consider spending more time with me outside of work. I know I’m your boss, but, we can unwind too. As friends, not coworkers.”
He felt a little lame saying that.
“You know what I mean, Adachi. It would just be nice to have company over.”

Akihiko didn't know him that well, but he wanted to show respect. "Happy birthday, sir."
“Heh, you remembered my birthday? Thank you, Sanada-san. That’s nice of you to remember.”

“No way,” he said matter-of-factly, looking ahead as if he was better than that. Nonetheless, the tone in the man’s voice didn’t go unnoticed… the confoundment confusing him a bit. Not to mention personally pricked; he became consciously aware of how boys his age would kill for the attention while he himself was in comparison standoffish. Akihiko didn’t brood over it, however. Wasn’t Dojima-san’s fault.
Quiet nodding felt like an appropriate response to his condolences. He hardly sought pity, preferring to prove himself despite his misfortunes. That he was above them. He had to move forward or else the past will catch up to him, after all.
And the last thing Akihiko wanted was to feel powerless again.
“So.. yeah. I can’t forget that feeling. I want to be there for others like they were for me, you know? Or at least that’s a simple way of putting it.”
Dojima couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit at Akihiko’s response, he figured that maybe the kid was just shy. Then again, kids these days might be a little different too. Before they were all about having boyfriends and girlfriends in high school but maybe now kids actually wanted to focus on their future. That’s good.
“That’s understandable. I think that’s real admirable of you to turn something like that into a positive into how you can help people. It’s good. It’ll get you far.”
Well, maybe they should move on from thinking about things that were clearly touchy subjects for the teen. He was supposed to be educating and inspiring the boy.
“Hey, how about we go out on a patrol? I could give you some tips on what to look out for.”

“Huh, maybe…” Tenji rubbed his chin thoughtfully, tilting his head to look at the older man with a grin. “How old are you, Dojima-san?” He was beginning to think that perhaps the serious look on the detective’s face was just a case of Resting Detective Face. It had put the wind up him back in the clinic, he had been worried that Dojima saw right through him like he was made out of glass, but he was still wearing it now, and surely he wasn’t scoping this place out.
“Nu-uh, I’d go bang. Nn, round here?” He looked around the small eatery theatrically and then shook his head. “I don’t think so. Not many people like me round here. Are like me, not do like me- uh.” The dim blonde act worked fine in the big city clubs, but not so well under family restaurant lighting. The young man laughed awkwardly. “Well, I haven’t found anyone yet - know anyone? Are you married?”
Dojima couldn’t help but raise a brow at the question, was he really so bold to ask? Well, he didn’t really have a reason to lie or anything. “I’m in my forties.” Well, maybe now hearing his out aloud made him feel it all of a sudden and now there was a lower back pain he hadn’t noticed before. He really needed to learn to start taking it easy.
He chuckled, “Do you think maybe the people around here don’t like you because they’re jealous that you’ve probably had more of a life experience than they have? So many people around here know they’re going to be stuck here for life, but you’ve already lived out in the big city.” it was nice that Tenji had gone out to do that even if he had been back now to help his dad out. Dojima could already tell that Tenji probably wouldn’t stay in Inaba forever though. “Don’t worry, you’ll young. You’ll meet someone eventually. Probably best if you don’t rush it.” he smiled although his look turned somber when the other asked if he was married. “Yeah. Well, I was.” Dojima had a bad habit of still wearing his ring. “She, uh, died in an accident.”

Well, this is a little embarrassing. Nanako never told Yu it was his birthday until this morning. He had no idea what to get him, so he settled for a new coffee machine he bought at Junes. "Um, happy birthday, uncle. Apologies for my terrible gift..."
What did Yu mean terrible? This was actually a nice gift, the coffee machine he had was getting kind of old. It was nice to have a replacement now! “Thanks alot, I actually needed one of these. I appreciate it.”

"Oh lemme take that." Adachi takes a pie of paperwork that was on Dojima's desk and swapped it with a bottle of Kokuryu sake. "Happy birthday, try to take it easy haha."
Dojima looks up at Adachi who seemed to take away the pile of paperwork from him. The bottle of sake had been nice, but he wondered if he could actually trust Adachi to work on the stack he had just taken off his desk. “Thanks... So, does that mean you’re going to work on that for me?”

“Nanako told me it’s your birthday, Dojima-san — happy birthday!” [ @hachidorinoko ]
Well, this was a surprise greeting but it was nice that Tenji had remembered. Come to think of it, Nanako seemed to enjoy talking to Tenji a lot. He had seem to become another ‘big brother’ figure to her which was nice. “Thank you, Akamine-kun. I appreciate it.”
