FASHION CREDITS: LADY GAGA BY ETHAN JAMES GREEN FOR VOGUE US OCTOBER ISSUE
I was highly expecting for Lady Gaga to land a Vogue cover and here we are, covering the October issue of the American Vogue. The photoshoot, which is highly inspired by her role as Harley Quinn in "Joker: Folie à Deux", was lensed by Ethan James Green.
Styling: Alex Harrington, makeup: Sarah Tanno-Stewart, hair: Frederic Aspiras, nails: Kim Truong using Glitterbels, tailors: Hailey Desjardins and Egle Paulauskaite, set design: Marla Weinhoff.
Photographed during her stay in Paris in July this year, the cover photo showcases Gaga in the blue embroidered trompe-l’œil synthetic hair coat made in collaboration with hairstylist Gary Gill from Balenciaga‘s 53rd Fall/Winter 2024 Haute Couture collection!
An iconic silhouette by now, Gaga rocks a pair of her favorite Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2016 Kiki buckled black leather platform boots!
The mixture of couture, high-end designers and emerging talent is immense in this editorial as Gaga wears the grunge-inspired Hodakova Fall/Winter 2024 argyle double knit sweater in this hauntingly beautiful shot.
Hyperventilating is an UNDERSTATEMENT. I fell in love the moment John Galliano sent out his girls down the dramatic runway and ever since I was hoping to catch Gaga in one of the designs. Never would‘ve thought she‘d even get a whole custom look!
Gaga poses in custom Maison Margiela Spring/Summer 2024 Artisanal Haute Couture.
White cotton caisetted cape cut with the memory of an ulster coat, worn over a patinaed knitted silk bodysuit matching Gaga’s skin tone underpinned by a corset covered in jersey and a silicone hip prothèse.
A taped reverse swatching hat in white foam and caisetted cotton, patinaed knitted silk stockings and gloves, and custom Christian Louboutin for Margiela white patent leather criss-cross platform pumps with torn stocking overlay.
One thing you should know about Gaga is that she loves to layer multiple runway pieces to merge a whole new look.
From Dior‘s Resort 2025 collection, a love letter to Scotland, she wore a knitted argyle sweater with cut-outs, a tartan wool maxi dress which she layered underneath a mesh and metallic lace dress, and some argyle socks.
The Hodakova sweater makes a return, this time accessorized with an antique hand-painted plaque, ruby and diamond in 18kt gold brooch, and a smoky quartz and pearl in 18k gold brooch, both from Tony Duquette!
A shoe that changed herstory. Vivienne Westwood‘s infamous Fall/Winter 1993 Super Elevated Gillie platform shoes make a return, acquired from Pechuga Vintage. You might remember Gaga wearing a boot version of these for her 2010 Elle spread!
A firework of excitement ransacked my body when I first found out that Alessandro Michele would depart from Gucci to head over to Valentino as the new creative director.
LG is, to my knowledge, the first celebrity to rock a piece from the Resort 2025 "Avant Les Debuts" (Before the Beginning) collection – a pale yellow chiffon mini dress with high collar, tiered ruffle puff sleeves and floral sequin embroidery all over!
Paired with custom Maison Margiela distressed stockings and custom Christian Louboutin platform heels.
Gaga is working it in a bi-colored statuesque coat seen on Yohji Yamamoto‘s Fall/Winter 2024 "A Seamless Parable on Cubism" runway.
Rather than canvas and paint, Yamamoto’s medium is fabric and more than ever, it felt like he let his instinctual side take the wheel. Case in point: He said he couldn’t talk about how he’d arrived at these silhouettes. "During fittings, I can change, I can touch", he said with finality.
The look was crowned with a custom Vivienne Bow hat made of voluminous moiré fabric by emerging designer Andrew James!
One of the "Antwerp Six" designers, Dries Van Noten bid farewell earlier this Summer and decided to leave the fashion scene with a bang by celebrating his legacy at his final Spring/Summer 2025 collection where this epic embroidered cashmere coat is from.
Both her plaque-embellished black beanie...
...and double-breasted boxy oversized coat with peaked lapel are from The Row's Resort 2025 lookbook!
Gaga is the first ever person to wear this vintage Givenchy by Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 1999 "Execution of Lady Jane Grey" Haute Couture chinoiserie embroidered silk balloon sleeve coat and bespoke black dress, both sourced from LILY et Cie.
In 1999, McQueen was going through, in his own words, "an emotional turmoil" both professionally and personally. But instead of relieving himself, he ventured into his own despair to understand his inner demons more poignantly. This painful journey led Lee to Paul Delaroche’s tragic but beautiful 1833 painting, "The Execution of Lady Jane Grey".
Like a painter to a blank canvas, McQueen filled an empty room with extravagant offerings: romantic silk ensembles with floral embroidery, 16th-century fur-trimmed tunics, luxurious velvet coats, as well as the designer’s signature leather suits, cowl-neck dresses, and even a heightened-for-couture bouffant piece that paid homage to his plaid.
Dialing in on his inspiration, McQueen presented his clothes not on models but on fiber-glass-headed mannequins that emerged from trap doors in batches, as if the audience were in an art gallery rather than a fashion show.
It's almost unrecognizable but Gaga is draping this Chanel Fall/Winter 2024 Haute Couture black silk taffeta opera coat around her torso. This piece, which served as the show's opening number, features a ruffled neck, bejeweled buttons and a voluminous cut.

Hi 9, may I please a history books kaylor question please? Since I am educating myself. :)
2016 Karlie’s birthday, I know the facetime, flowers, komh lore, but my question is:
Why do some people think they were together for KK’s brithday at a wyoming ranch? And who owns this ranch?
Thank youuu
hello~
karlie posted this in late august 2016 from wyoming. there is a resort-style ranch there that over the years she has posted photos from, and it’s also the location of the yeehaw wedding reception thingy from 2019. i won’t post the ranch name but you could probably figure it out for yourself without much difficulty if that’s a detail you’re invested in.
as for why people thought they were there together, or the rumor that maybe one of them proposed to the other, it’s kind of hard to explain without getting very granular and inside baseball so i guess i’ll just say it’s based on some circumstantial evidence and these old patterns they used to follow of like, always being on social media and then suddenly not being on social media for awhile and then popping back up one after another on social media or by being photographed..
anyway when Lover came out there was the line “i’ve loved you three summers now honey, but i want them all” and it neatly fit the idea of it being a proposal song, where three summer now counting back from summer 2016 would be summer 2014, the first summer they were a thing publicly, and summer 2016 now being the third summer of kaylor. so this sort of strengthened the folklore of this summer 2016 trip to this ranch. maybe put it more in the folklore column than the cold hard evidence column, though.

National Seashell Day
National Seashell Day is celebrated every year on the first day of summer — on June 21. This day encourages you to head to your nearby beach and admire the beautiful shells left behind by creatures, typically snails and mollusks. There are so many different types of shells that you can find on beaches, all you have to do is look. However, make sure you only pick up empty shells and not ones with creatures still living inside them. If you do find such shells, it’s best to release them gently back into the ocean. Get ready to head to sandy beaches where seashells await you!
History of National Seashell Day
National Seashell Day was founded by Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau on the first day of summer in 2016. This day was created as a marketing gimmick to attract tourists to celebrate the seashells found on the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel in Southwest Florida. National Seashell Day was first celebrated on Captiva Island with the morning TV news show called “Good Morning, America.”
Did you know Sanibel Island has earned the title of the Seashell Capital of the World, owing to its abundance of seashells? Every year, people flock to Captiva and Sanibel Islands to search for over 400 species of shells. The calm waves and location make these islands the top pick for people to look for beautiful seashells.
However, while shelling is allowed, it is illegal to collect live shells, which is any shell that still has an inhabitant. The shell serves as their home and it is cruel to disrupt their environment. This day is also celebrated to alleviate the issue of the illegal shell trade. In fact, shellers are also encouraged to keep their empty shell collection to a minimum.
National Seashell Day is an ideal opportunity to simply be grateful for the existence of the beautiful shells that are home to certain sea creatures.
National Seashell Day timeline
809 Million Years AgoFirst Seashells Appear
The earliest known seashells appear.
1976The Holman Seashell Collection
The Holman Seashell Collection starts with a beach walk at Satellite Beach, Florida.
1995Ban on Collecting Shells with Life Inside
Sanibel Island’s ban on the collection of any shells with mollusks still living inside them comes into effect.
2018Guinness World Record
The Guinness World Record is made for the largest human image of a seashell at Fort Myers beach.
National Seashell Day FAQs
Is it OK to collect seashells?
While it is okay to collect seashells to appreciate them or for a hobby, excessive removal of seashells from beaches can be damaging to the ecosystem in the long term.
Where is the best place to collect seashells?
Sanibel Island, Florida, Bandon, Oregon, Barricane Beach, Devon in England, and Galveston Island in Texas are some of the best places in the world for finding beautiful seashells.
What are the long shells on the beach?
Long shells found on the beach are called razor shells.
How To Celebrate National Seashell Day
Collect seashells
Go on a beach vacation
Show off your collection on social media
National Seashell Day is the perfect opportunity to go to the beach and collect some empty shells. You can use them as showpieces to decorate your home or you can simply store them in a memorabilia box as your own little treasures.
When we hear seashells, we instantly think of the beach! How about a quick beach vacation? If you can’t head to the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel, you can visit a nearby beach resort for a weekend getaway. You’re sure to find seashells, regardless of where you are.
Already have an exquisite collection of seashells that you have collected over the years? You can celebrate National Seashell Day by showing them off on your social media sites and sharing your precious collection with a larger audience and educating them about the day.
5 Facts About Seashells That Will Blow Your Mind
They open to the right
Different shapes
Patterns with a purpose
Mollusks have only one shell
Several types
Nine out of 10 shells are dextral and thus open to the right.
There are two distinct types of seashells, they’re either plain and smooth (think clamshells) or have spikes, ridges, and protrusions.
The elaborate colors and shapes on a seashell serve a purpose — for instance, mollusks use patterns to figure out where to put their mantles.
Mollusks create only one shell that they inhabit for their entire lifetime by utilizing a variety of proteins and calcium carbonate.
There are around 200,000 mollusks across the globe and each one of them creates a unique type of shell.
Why We Love National Seashell Day
Seashells are pretty
Seashells house live creatures
Seashells are lucky
Seashells can literally make your jaw drop with their beauty. They come in pretty shapes and colors that are aesthetically pleasing. It’s only fair that these little shells have a day dedicated to admiring them.
Seashells provide sea creatures with a home. They’re important to the survival of these creatures and thus should be celebrated in all their glory.
According to feng shui, seashells come packed with luck! They’re also known to provide relief from stress and are a symbol of positivity and prosperity.

Fashion In Flux.
As 2022 drew to a close, the tectonics slowly began shifting; now, as we embark into 2023, fashion is finally facing a major vibe shift.
While the past seven years have been peppered with rising talents and breakout stars, following the last seismic shift, it has undeniably been a two-man race between Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and Balenciaga’s Demna.
Until it wasn’t.
Following Michele’s recent announcement that he’d be parting ways with the Italian house, occurring almost simultaneously with Balenciaga-gate, fashion finds itself in a state of flux.
Michele’s appointment as creative director back in 2015 came as something of a surprise – triumphant over more recognisable names including Riccardo Tisci, Christopher Kane, Joseph Altuzarra, and Tom Ford, again – with Kering’s chief François-Henri Pinault tasking the designer with taking the house in a ‘daring direction’ following predecessor Frida Giannini’s early exit.
It’s a formula we’ve similarly seen strike gold in the years since with Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta and Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli, but it has also been catastrophic, in the case of Justin O’Shea’s breakneck seven-month tenure at Brioni and Lanvin’s seemingly revolving front door.
Revisiting his Autumn/Winter 2015 debut (the unofficial one), Michele’s maximalist magpie tendencies weren’t as grandiose as we’ve come to expect, but his willowy boys with their luscious locks, pussybow blouses, fur-lined slippers, and nerdy, oversized reading glasses were a world away from the stark streetwear we were seeing in menswear at the time. Similarly, his womenswear debut was an entirely different offering to Miuccia Prada’s smart and subversive Prada, Hedi Slimane’s svelte and skanky Saint Laurent, Nicolas Ghesquière’s sleek and chic Louis Vuitton, or Phoebe Philo’s salve for all wounds, Céline – before Slimane later axed the é.
After presenting four collections – his AW15 menswear and womenswear debuts (presented separately, before the brand went co-ed in 2017) a Resort 2016 show in New York, and a stepped-up sophomore menswear outing – Michele was awarded International Designer of the Year at the 2015 British Fashion Awards for having ‘set the fashion agenda’ and ‘confirming Gucci’s position as a truly directional fashion house.’
Meanwhile, Demna, who we now know as the mononymous creative director at Balenciaga, was still somewhat unknown, just beginning to step into the limelight as design lead at Vetements, presenting his sophomore collection during the same season. He would be named as Alexander Wang’s successor seven months later in October 2015.
In the years that followed, both designers began laying the foundations to create the behemoth brands today, albeit at opposite ends of the spectrum – Balenciaga the dark and dirty counterpart to the romance and nostalgia of Gucci.
There’s the inescapable assault from both brands as the go-to for your celebrity faves: from Balenciaga’s Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Dua Lipa, Elliot Page, Justin Bieber, Isabelle Huppert, Michaela Coel, Nicole Kidman, and Kylie Jenner to Gucci’s Harry Styles, Jared Leto, Lana Del Rey, Florence Welch, Måneskin, Miley Cyrus, Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Dev Hynes, Idris Elba, Janelle Monáe, Julia Garner, Andrew Garfield, Jodie Smith, Jack Grealish – you get it.
Yet amid standout shows (Autumn/Winter 2018, Spring/Summer 2019, Resort 2020, and Autumn/Winter 2022) meme-orable moments (from severed heads to platform Crocs) and cohort of collaborations (adidas times two, Palace, The Simpsons, Disney, and even each other in fashion’s first multiverse moment) their commonality stretched beyond the creative into their forward-thinking business mindset. Whether partnering with the World Food Programme, aiding employees to find safe abortions, ditching fur, platforming upcoming design talents, hiring diehard stans, or branching into beauty, Demna and Alessandro represented a ‘new’ kind of creative director – simultaneously scrutinising the finer details while taking scope of the bigger picture.
Yet it’s this painstaking attention to detail that makes Balenciaga’s recent ad scandal even more perplexing. Despite the brand initially blaming production company North Six – with a $25m lawsuit that was swiftly dropped – insiders question, rightfully so, how such images could see the light of day with so many stakeholders involved.
Regardless of which side of the scandal you find yourself on, it’s impossible to ignore the endurance of this particular controversy. Thanks to the Right’s rebirth of ‘Satanic Panic’, luxury brands are forced to walk an ever-shrinking tightrope to do the ‘right’ thing, not because they want to, but because they have to in order to protect their bottom line. Remember when controversial ads were en vogue?
Since Balenciaga-gate, Gucci found itself under similar criticism following the release of its ‘HA HA HA’ campaign – featuring Harry Styles wearing a teddy bear t-shirt toting a mattress that denigrators said belonged to a ‘toddler’. In a now deleted TikTok video, Coach was decried for Disney-themed teddy bears in its Sydney store that were described as ‘satanic’ and ‘evil’.
For Balenciaga, the fallout (still falling) from its Chernobyl has seen Kim Kardashian, the poster child for Demna’s Balenciaga, noticeably out of the brand claiming to be ‘shaken by the disturbing images’ and ‘re-evaluating her relationship with the brand’. After appearing in the brand’s AW22 campaign, Euphoria’s Alexa Demie deleted all Balenciaga images from her Instagram feed and promptly unfollowed for good measure. Then the Business of Fashion rescinded its ‘highest honour’, the Global VOICES award and instead asked the brand representatives to attend to explain the saga – they declined.
As the brand’s first show post-Balenci-gate approaches, the mind intrigues whether deep-thinking Demna will address the controversy. Amid the storm that has permanently taken root above Balenciaga HQ, the designer and CEO Cédric Charbit seem to be on borrowed time.
So, who does that leave in line to succeed fashion’s Iron Throne? At the end of 2022, Miu Miu took home Lyst’s title of hottest brand of the year for the first time – beating away heavyweights Balenciaga (who has topped the chart six times) and Gucci (topping 10 times and never placing lower than 4th).
Thanks to its viral micro skirt set – which solidified its status on countless covers and via Shein knock-offs and homemade Halloween costumes – Miuccia trebled down from Spring/Summer 2022 through to Spring/Summer 2023, turning Moo Moo into a cash cow with churning out micro bras and adorable accessories.
There’s also the new guard of next gen designers invited to make their mark at hallowed houses: Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Harris Reed will shortly present their debuts for Ann Demeulemeester and Nina Ricci respectively, while Maximilian Davis will reveal his sophomore runway collection for Ferragamo. With luck, an exciting opportunity to see what they’ve got, and not another revolving door. Bianca Saunders and Priya Ahluwalia next please!
Will Matthieu Blazy achieve a hattrick at Bottega Veneta? What has Raf Simons got up his sleeve? What Ever Happened To Phoebe Philo? With heavyweights in limbo – Alessandro Michele, Riccardo Tisci – a hotly anticipated debut from Daniel Lee at Burberry, and open spots at Louis Vuitton menswear and Gucci, the guillotine looks like it’s readying for more chops with LVMH’s recent CEO moves.
Time to place your bets.

close to me
by wayward_sherlock
“That’s my step brother Will,” El said from somewhere next to Mike, her voice pulling him out of the trance he had found himself in. “He got me the job here, among other things.”
“They look great together,” he replied softly, trying to keep the disappointment from seeping into his voice. Mike knew that not everyone was like him, but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt when he saw someone he couldn’t have.
“Yeah,” El said, sounding just as breathless as Mike felt. “You’d think they were a couple, right?”
At that, Mike turned to her in near disbelief. “Aren’t they?”
El looked back at him with a knowing glint in her eyes. “They’ve always been just friends.”
***
Mike's in for another bummer summer at some stupid resort his family dragged him to when he becomes wrapped up in the responsibilities - and the arms - of a group of staff who are in desperate need of his help. Who knows...maybe he'll end up having the time of his life.

Welcome back again to Sinister Sunday, where we share Horror recommendations from our Mods and Contributors! Asylum (2016 Book Series) CW: Ghosts, Murder, Revenge, Reincarnation (if you squint) ---------------------------------------------- For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, New Hampshire College Prep is more than a summer program—it's a lifeline. An outcast at his high school, Dan is excited to finally make some friends in his last summer before college. But when he arrives at the program, Dan learns that his dorm for the summer used to be a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum—a last resort for the criminally insane.

Stuff I learned June 3-23
so I fell asleep earlier after posting about my scrushy crawlnut migraine times, and woke up a lil bit ago, still migrainily.
I took some Advil, Tylenol, water, and now I can tell you guys about the day I had. (Might be a contributing factor to a hurty brain. i took in a lot of information.)
Under the cut: what I learned today about the uses of kudzu (it evolved to be used plentifully by humans, which is why it grows so quickly and abundantly!), plastic upcycling, and the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland.
I learned a great deal about the uses of kudzu, in the process of educating a friend about it. Kudzu has been used as a form of erosion control and to enhance the soil. As a legume, it increases the nitrogen in the soil by a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. It’s used in many food dishes, including as a jelly from the flowers (which apparently tastes like grape jelly), a starch, and a tea. The starch is flavoured as a summer drink in Vietnam, and used as a thickener like cornstarch. Nearby bee colonies may forage on kudzu nectar during droughts as a last resort, producing a low-viscosity red or purple honey that tastes of grape jelly or bubblegum. (I want to try this so bad!) It’s used in traditional medicines, and has a lot of food nutrition. It’s used as a fibre for baskets. Clothing, and paper usage. Soap, lotions, and ethanol. It’s super duper useful. This was before I even got to work, I learned all this knowledge.
At work, a coworker rushed out of the donation centre to show us a book about the tour at the the Wieliczka Salt Mine in the town of Wieliczka, near Kraków in southern Poland. Holy heck you guys! The sculptures! The art carved directly into salt! The history! Never in my dreams would I have imagined that humans had created this as a thing, without being shown. I did not take photos of the book, but I will add them tomorrow when I’m back at work. There’s a historical tour of how the first miners mined the salt, the tools and structures for support they had, there’s a green lake! :D
THEN, there are the carvings and the grand halls and the tunnels. Finally, the WAYS that the salt erupts from the walls and surfaces: in stalactites, stalagmites, King’s Hair curls, crystals, and amazingly geometric shapes. When you think “salt mine”, most people think of the salt deserts in the US (or at least, the three customers in the store that I pestered to look at the book all said this.)
ADDITIONALLY, today I talked with a customer who comes in every weekend about cleaning up plastics from the Great Lakes. He’s a photographer, and doing a work right now based on that, so we discussed the uses of plastics as recycled/upcycled products, which I’d watched multiple videos on last night and in the morning. Brothers Make, a southern UK based business run by brothers Jonny and Matt, gather plastic trash from the beaches (and have it collected by friends and family) and turn it into furniture, jewelry, and useful tools.
“In 1950, 2.5 billion people produced 1.5 million tonnes of plastic. In 2016, 7 billion people produced over 320 million tonnes of plastic.
- sas.org.uk (2020)“
Their YouTube channel has a ton of videos on the things they’ve made along with the fascinating process of cleaning, shredding, melting and molding plastic, along with how you can do it at home!

Let’s talk about samples!
I return from the Easter break 🐣 with some food for thought to explore. I wondered for a long time whether I should come up with something striking or related to past core content, but since I would like to revisit my Erasmus, I decided to put together my experiences and insights from my colleagues' blogs and from course lectures tied to this project.
GUERRILLA DESIGN is the first shot
I came across this concept while scrolling through the course material and would like to bring it into a declination of examples chosen to mix my personal experience with its relevance in a social and cultural context.
We can barely try to define this extremely varied practice:
“Unsanctioned, unscripted, and seemingly “undesirable” activities have long appropriated urban spaces in routine and sometimes unexpected ways, bringing new meanings and unforeseen functions to those places.”
This special issue aims to advance our understanding of urban design by situating it in a broader social, economic and political practice that includes formal and informal practices performed by a wide variety of individual and collective actors.
Expressiveness can be demonstrated by many nuances:
Street vending
When vendors take over street corners and sidewalks on a daily basis to provide basic and necessary services to city dwellers.
Here some cool, cutting-edge and Italian-vibes examples:
Graffiti
Gardening
Knitting
Skateboarding
Coming across the Graffiti thing I feel in the mood to share with you, tongue firmly planted in cheek, the most relevant model of resistance in street art beliefs: Banksy.
He has built a celebrated body of work, both permanent and impermanent, that uses satire, subversion, black humor and irony to create social, political and humanistic messages that resonate with the masses on a popular and public level. He is credited with catapulting guerrilla work into the mainstream as a viable art form.
I had the opportunity to see a very well curated exhibition here in Vienna, which was extended until 16th of April, with a substantial portion of his artwork, and my attention was stolen by the material applications pasted into the public and collective environment.
That was my closest contact with Banksy's art and I really enjoyed all the provocative works, especially material and architectural ones, such as the following:
October 2013, Banksy undertook a month-long residency in New York entitled ‘Better Out Than In.’
Summer of 2015, Banksy opened the dystopian theme park Dismaland in the seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare. Prepared entirely in secret, the project unveiled 10 new works by Banksy as well as works from 58 other artists.
Banksy went on to participate in the designing of the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem in 2017, opposite the Israeli West Bank Barrier.

Enjoying the moment at Polemedia (Limassol Forestry Park), Cyprus on 30 March 2013.
This is 9 years after we first arrived on Cyprus soil.
Cyprus, Memories of a life gone by.
It was a big move and it could so easily have failed.
But, we did it!
We took the bull by horns, sold our 2 bedroom terraced home in a Lancashire mill town in UK, taking our dog and 2 cats to "follow the dream" of a New Life in Cyprus.
Many dream, but don't do.
If life throws you the option - take that chance.
Don't leave it too late.....
++++++++++++
CORAL BAY - AN OVERNIGHT STAY.
February 2015 at Coral Bay Harbour in Paphos on the western side of the island and a popular tourist resort with British people as well as UK retirees.
The weather had played a real blinder and the day before we were ready to take the 70km drive from our home on the outskirts of Limassol towards Paphos - it snowed!
It was one of the coldest winters we'd experienced since the time we had arrived on the island, all the way back in 2004.
Not just in the mountains above Nicosia or on the Troodos ski resort - but, in the seaside resorts all along the coast...
It was still freezing cold when we arrived in the late morning, so we took ourselves into Coral Bay itself and a had a wander around exploring and taking in the scenery.
A little memorial sanctuary we found along the top of the coastal footpath above Coral Bay, close to our accommodation.
Here's that little memorial, I mentioned.
So here we were, taking a little break away from home reliant totally on a split air-conditioning unit to keep the 1 bedroom apartment we had chosen to stay in, warm and toasty.
Did we trust it? Not on your life!
We took our emergency electric fan heater along for the ride, and boy - did we need it...
++++++++++++
Everyone staying in the apartment complex that night, all ended up in the bar - body heat was the life and soul of the party that night.
LIMASSOL OLD TOWN.
A place we always liked to take our visitors who came to see us during the years we were based in Cyprus.
It's an interesting town although a new Marina was constructed a few years before we left it behind to return to UK in 2016.
You will always find a little bar or kafenion tucked away in the narrow streets.
This photo again, is in February - hence the outside liquid gas powered patio heaters.
And below, the wooden pier near Limassol Old Port - always a firm favourite place of mine.
++++++++++++
LIMASSOL WINE FESTIVAL.
We visited the wine festival, held in the public gardens down by the coast, just out of Limassol town centre, for the very first time in the summer of 2015.
The Wine Festival is an annual event and generally takes place in August, a time when most Cypriots take their summer holidays.
It's hot and humid, which gets very wearing - unless you're constantly in an office with air-conditioning.
A few photos from that night, here below:
The "Vraka Man"
Celebrating 54 Years of the Cyprus Wine Festival.
No festival is complete in Cyprus - unless there's SOUVLA.
Souvla - is large pieces, marinated and cooked slowly and lovingly over piles of white hot smouldering coals on huge BBQs. It's generally served with Cyprus potatoes cut into large wedges - also cooked slowly in oil as well as their skins
++++++++++++
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SOUVLA.
This is the traditional way to serve Souvla (it can be pork or lamb) and it's served differently from the Souvlakia you are served in tourist restaurants where the meat is in smaller pieces, either on a skewer or in Pitta Bread.
It's the only way I will eat pork.
"I never liked it as a child living in the UK, but regular nights at a local bar - very close to where we lived in the village of Ypsonas some 12km out of the Tourist Area of Limassol, soon changed my mind on that."
"Frixo Fridays" on the old road leading out of Limassol in the direction of Paphos, would take you there.
We would meet with the local residents, the bar owner (Frixos) and his wife (Patroulla / Pat) and around half a dozen British people who lived on the other side of the village to us.
The juke box was constantly refilled with coins, the Zivania, KEO Beer and Carlsberg flowed along with much singing and dancing.
Souvla and salad was served free each Friday night - and we got the smell drifting gently into the bar from the back patio, where Frixos tended to it for several hours before and during the course of the evening.
GREAT MEMORIES!
Needless to say, we shipped a couple of Cyprus BBQs back to UK when we returned in 2016.
Go on, I know you're curious - click that link and have a peep at them. They're available to purchase in the UK.
I hope you enjoyed the photos and reading this small part of my past life in Cyprus.
Regards
Shell

CRICHTON'S WESTWORLD (1973) in TANDEM 1/2 with JURASSIC PARK (1999)
26 years separates Jurassic Park (1999) from Westworld (1973). Personally I did not like the movie Westworld, the first movie directed by Michael Crichton based on his novel, but the film script was great and I imagine the book even better. Perhaps I would have enjoyed the movie more in a modern setting as in Jurassic Park and the genius of Spielberg, which I thought the script was not as good as Westworld but the technical effects was out of this world. This said I would recommend seeing the movie...and the following movie review...

Westworld is a 1973 American science fiction Western film written and directed by Michael Crichton.
The film was from an original screenplay by Crichton and was his first theatrical film as director, after one TV film. It was also the first feature film to use digital image processing to pixellate photography to simulate an android point of view.
Critical reception was largely positive by contemporary and retrospective critics and Westworld was nominated for Hugo, Nebula, and Saturn awards.
Westworld was followed by a sequel, Futureworld (1976), and a short-lived television series, Beyond Westworld (1980). A television series based on the film debuted in 2016 on HBO.
The film follows adult guests visiting an interactive amusement park containing lifelike androids that unexpectedly begin to malfunction. (Westworld (film) - Wikipedia)

The sequel, FUTUREWORLD (1976), well, Is a "B movie" and I wouldn't take it any further than that, I though the argument needs a little more serious work, but an excellent idea.
Futureworld is a 1976 American science fiction thriller film directed by Richard T. Heffron and written by Mayo Simon and George Schenck.
It is a sequel to the 1973 Michael Crichton film Westworld, and is the second installment in the Westworld franchise. Westworld's writer-director, Michael Crichton, and the original studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer were not involved in this production.
IMdB RATING: 5'7
The film attempted to take the plot in a different direction from Westworld, but it was not well received by U.S. critics but well received by French critic.
