Our girl finally feels like she has a family that welcomed her in. She brings up that her ability has a part of it but this chapter is so wholesome I'm gonna cry.

You know it's sad that Sumi would never have been able to protect Miyo, no matter if she had lived. She was just a pawn in the power game. At that time women did not have decision-making power so the moment Shinichi would have discovered Miyo's gift he would have used her as a tool to gain power and prestige. And Sumi would have been discarded. It's so sad that her mother’s act of protection backfired and Miyo suffered so much but thankfully at the end she was able to escape that hell. I like to think that Sumi story was so tragic that before dying she prayed to God so Miyo could find a way to be happy and safe someday. And in a way to honor Sumi's sacrifice, God decided to send Kiyoka.

not surprising that miyo’s maternal family ain’t shit, but it makes me INSANE to see them/others come for her now that she shows signs of having supernatural abilities. like how could they have ignored the YEARS of mental/physical abuse she experienced growing up in the saimori household? what if she had starved to death? what if she had worked herself so hard that she collapsed or had grown ill? (all situations easily done in that house) would the Usubas have helped her, would they have grieved her death—would they have held Saimori responsible? it makes me sick as hell to think about. logically, their skills are needed to help Miyo manage her abilities, but im still shook with her hesitation to stay with those monsters—Kiyoka had every right to burn that place to the ground.

Hmm. Odd.
I expected My Happy Marriage to end with Miyo's family being brought to justice, but it seems like I'm only halfway thru.
Granted, there does need to be some resolution on why Miyo keeps dreaming of her mother, why her mother keeps saying these odd things. I suppose the rest of the story deals with Miyo's powers being awakened?

My Happy Marriage Episode 11 Review - Miyo Gets Her Powers Back
What do you mean there’s only one episode left? Will there be time in the last episode for someone to beat the crap out of Arata because he needs one? Will this last episode resolve everything?
Tumblr media
Anyways, this penultimate episode explains why Sumi, Miyo’s mother, decided to get married to the Saimori family. It all happened because the Tsuruki Trading business was about to go bankrupt. Sumi decided to accept a marriage proposal, which her father Yoshiro had kept rejecting due to the Usuba Clan’s rules, and the two became estranged after the wedding. When Miyo was born, Sumi learned upon touching her child that she has the rare Dream Sight ability which causes her to worry. Because of this, she decides to seal away Miyo’s ability so that she wouldn’t be used as a tool in the future. With the remaining time she had left, she lived her life as Miyo’s mother.
The Usuba family’s rules are wack. They have to be hidden and can only marry and procreate with the same blood (inbreeding). The fact that they want to keep Miyo in the manor and Arata is making his moves on her out of the Usuba duty and not actually his own feelings is pretty messed up. Like, both Yoshiro and Arata are so annoying. Yoshiro was spewing things about how much he cared about Sumi and Miyo, but if he cared about Sumi, he shouldn’t have gotten angry at her for her decision and should still have contact with her. If he had cared about Miyo, he could’ve shown up when Miyo needed it most. He didn’t contact Sumi at all throughout her marriage; he only contacted Miyo nineteen years after her birth. Is he only caring about her because of her ability and not her as a person? Miyo says it herself: What is family? They say they’re her family, but they’re not behaving like family at all.
Arata was spewing nonsense about how he has to carry out the Usuba family duties and how he and Miyo are similar in terms of them being hollow people looking for a purpose. To be honest, I find that an insult to Miyo. Miyo’s not “hollow” by choice; it was forced onto her due to abuse. He doesn’t care for her as a person; he only cares about her to fill out his purpose. Fortunately, Miyo’s immune to his guilt-tripping, so she’s not succumbing to his words. Arata seems like a very contradictory person from the way he said that Miyo’s abilities have to be kept secret due to his deal with the Emperor, yet he’s revealing her secrets about her Dream-Sight to the people tending to the unconscious Kiyoka. What a way to keep secrets.
Kiyoka was shown to be a powerful ability-user in Episode 6, but the fact that he got caught off-guard and gets knocked out by a Grotesquerie shows that these things are truly a threat. Though, it does seem like an abrupt plot-point so that Miyo can leave the house and find a chance to use her powers for the first time. Though, I’m glad that her first target is her husband-to-be so that they can finally make up.
Lastly, I really like the scenery in this episode. The scenes with Miyo getting her powers back was absolutely stunning. The scenes with Sumi were pretty too! I think that the scenery is one of the strongest aspects of this anime and I can attest to that. Every episode looks pretty and it’s hard to peel my eyes away from them.
I apologize that this review got out late; I was a bit distracted from reviews as the new Pokemon Violet DLC came out on Wednesday, so my time has been occupied with that. I finished the main story today, so I will write a review soon. Anyways, what are your thoughts on this episode and are you ready for the finale next week?

The Usuba and Saimori Families: Victims to the Emperor's schemes.... NOT!
It's said that both the Usuba and Saimori families were victims to the Emperor's schemes since he was the mastermind behind everything just to prevent a child being born with the power of Dream-Sight. To me, neither of these families are really victims after everything that happened and everything that was done to Miyo.
The Saimori family were desperate and selfish and did everything in their power to boost their status and power by whatever means necessary. The only problems they were facing was their gift users were dwindling and weren't as popular compared to the Kudo's. The Saimori family was already rotten to the core by the time the Emperor approached them which made them easy pawns. The Saimori's were no victims to the Emperor since they willingly followed his orders in order to achieve their own selfishness and when they didn't get what they wanted, they took their anger and frustrations out on Miyo, abusing her for years!
The Usuba family situation is a bit more understanding. They were victims since the Emperor's scheme caused the downfall of the family company to the loss of Sumi Usuba, all because he was fearful of the power of Dream-Sight. The Usuba family were almost forced to live on the streets because of what the Emperor did so they were victims to a degree. However, that doesn't change the fact they willingly cut ties with Sumi and abandoned Miyo to the Saimori's abuse with zero effort to reach out or reconcile. It shows they were petty and almost no different.
Miyo is the only true victim of the Emperor's schemes since she was harmed the most out these family situations. She was abused by the Saimori's and abandoned by the Usuba's. I hate all the pain she was put through! She didn't deserve this treatment where she was stuck in the middle of a cold silent war.
In the end, I'm glad justice was finally served. The Saimori family finally got their long overdue punishment and the Usuba's have a chance to redeem themselves, but more importantly... Miyo has finally found a real family and true happiness at long last with the Kudo's! They accept and love her for who she is whether she has a gift of not, something neither the Saimori or Usuba families ever really came to learn or understand.

I think Kanoko Saimori abused her own daughter as well, not just Miyo. Not physically but verbally by reprimanding her for even making the tiniest mistakes. It seems that she wanted her daughter to be perfect because she wasn't initially seen as good as good as Sumi Usuba to marry Shinichi. She took out her pain from jealousy to her own daughter. And her daughter in turn redirected that pain to Miyo.
I'm not excusing their behavior but I'm just pointing out that they had terrible coping mechanisms for their pain.
(I mean, this could happen to any of us so pointing them out in media is a good way to watch out for it in ourselves)

I keep thinking back about how things could had been different for miyo if Sumi would had married her original partner. Now, as someone who loves drama I don't fully believe Sumis original partner was mentally sane to raise Miyo after Sumis death. If you've read the light novels you would get an idea of what I'm talking about. So much could had changed and so many other people would had been happier.
I don't like miyos step mother and I absolutely hate her guts for everything she put our girl through but I understand somewhat why she hated miyos mother. I have a theory that Sumi may had used her power so miyos dad would love miyo at a short point. Either that or he straight up wanted to use miyo as a weapon and honestly could be both. Sumi suffered and sacrificed everything for her family, miyos dad and step mother were absolutely the worst beings alive cause Sumi had a lover and sacrificed herself for the greater good of the usuba family. Miyos dad and step mother were only able to get married as of after Sumis death, the former head didn't want Miyos dad to marry the step mother as she was giftless and wanted to protect the line. They should had been grateful that he was the head and not his parents. I also have a theory that Sumi struggled with her in laws cause she was Usuba lineage and sealing miyos gift so miyo appeared giftless. I know with Sumis sickness she wasn't going to be around forever for miyo but I feel like Sumi might had lived longer than she did if she had a those she loved around her.
After Sumis death I think she would had moved into the usuba house and lived with her grandfather and Arata. Since Sumis original lover was a bit crazy I can totally see him not being in miyos life anymore (don't know if he would stay with the usuba or leave as he originally he did in the light novel) and miyos grandfather taking care of miyo. Now...that leaves us to my favorite character... Arata...
Tumblr media
We know the whole Usuba rules about lover and friendships but I think Arata having Miyo as a friend may had changed his character. Both miyo and Arata are empty and while Arata didn't see the abuse miyo did he did suffer from financial trauma as well as watch his family almost get thrown on the streets.
Tumblr media
Arata is what I describe as a people pleaser and since he went through all of that as a kid he had to make his persona seem like he put together and at times seem extremely confident when in reality he's empty. In the series Arata talks about how empty he is. As a former child of people pleasing and burnout in the series he talks about how much protecting miyo is his purpose but if they grew up together I think it would had been different. I could go on about this but I feel like Miyo as well as everyone else would had a happier life if that one person didn't cause all that trouble.
