continued from x for @protectxthem "Probably do the things you do. Follow you around and make sure you don't get hurt or into trouble while trying to prove that there is proof out there."
"Would you even want the job, though?" she asked. "I would figure you'd do anything to get out of that role. I'm ashamed to say it, but I tried to get transferred... on multiple occasions. I...I hated seeing you get hurt. I hated fearing for your life."

is Mulder a tighty whitie/boxers kind of guy or is he more commando? I know we saw him in his underwear when he goes to Scully's when he's sick (right, Dr. Sully stripped him down and probably got an nice eye-ful), but he's clearly not wearing any in his pj's in Monday. Pretty see thru. Then, there are some episodes in which he is flipping and flopping. Perhaps his underwear usage depends on the humidity and if he has done laundry.
Scully was definitely a granny panty kind of gal when she was first assigned to the Xfiles. She changed it up once she learned that she was going to be traveling with Mulder.
lol i had to outsource this one bc i honestly have not spent a lot of time thinking about mulder's and scully's underwear wearing habits but i have to say i agree with @thursdayinspace's headcanon that it's a day by day thing for him; some days he feels like having that extra support and some days he feels like flipping and flopping🍆 the latter days are def why scully has a "long-standing curiosity" hehehehe
also i don't think mulder is the best at remembering to do laundry/buy new underwear/etc so that probably contributes to the variability lol

The Scully Family In-Depth (Part XVII): The Doubting Thomas
Bill Scully: an example of needful prodding pushed too far.
Tumblr media
Dana Scully is dying.
Having been called away from her last supper at Maggie Scully's, she jumps from denying Mulder's tip to helping him disprove it, consequently falling down a flight of stairs and into her brother's crossfire. More importantly, we explore the depths of Scully's denial, along with the Scully family tradition of harsh reality checks.
The Confrontation
After being knocked down a flight of stairs, Scully stares at her reflection, shying away from lingering raw emotions by assessing how well she's concealed her injuries (an visual representation of the lengths she is going through to deny her impending death and to avoid hard conversations with her mother and extended family.) Underneath it all, however, Scully can’t quite escape the knowledge of her metastasis… and the fear.
Tumblr media
It's in this sullying moment of darker reflection that Bill opens the door, solidifying a pattern of being at the right (or wrong) place at the (debatably) right time to discover his sister's secrets.
“Dana?”
Scully is shocked, half-stepping backwards to nonchalantly conceal the blood on her shirt.
“Bill.” Pausing to collect herself, she stows away the last shades of vulnerability. “What are you doing here?”
Tumblr media
Bill is trying his best to salvage an awkward situation between them, turning unnecessarily to close the door while giving a falsely cheerful explanation.
“I picked up the phone when they called Mom.” Smiling, he clutches his gift with both hands as he advances, a messy patch of hair sticking up at the back of his head (evidence of his hurried bolt to the hospital for her sake.) He swallows and thrusts forward her clothes: a peace sign. “Bet you could use a change of clothes.”
His tight smile and forced ease brings one to mind of the many sibling coverups Bill might have orchestrated for his tomboy little sister (the designated role of any older sibling.)
Scully, however, has plenty to hide from him, batting aside his camaraderie gently with a slightly stressed, slightly anxious, “Thank you. Um, where’s Mom?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bill feels her rejection, looking down as he drums up an answer. Tilting his head to the side like a little boy caught in a setup, he blinks, pauses, and finally admits-- looking up only after doing so, like Scully had seconds prior-- “I didn’t tell Mom what happened.”
He swallows, an indication Bill is hiding and revealing more than she might assume. Schrödinger's information.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scully looks caught, trapped; and immediately flees from that feeling, from the questions she knows Bill will likely ask, by looking down and busying herself with something else (her “I need to work” defense mechanism beginning to kick in urgently as the noose of her cancer begins to tighten.)
Bill knows she is avoiding his scrutiny and his questions; but he can't let this go. “So… what did happen?” he asks, avoiding eye contact until the last second.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She flippantly waves off the encounter, doing her best to dismiss his concerns with her own forced cheerfulness. “I, uh,” she begins, continuing to eye her buttons, “was knocked down a flight of stairs. But I’m okay,” she tells his chest. “Luckily,” she tacks on, head down again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bill swallows, a first glimpse of his thinning patience. “You’re not okay, Dana,” he states. Fact undeniable.
Scully immediately tenses; then sighs audibly, straightening for the first time, her mask firmly in place. She is implicitly demanding answers, not offering explanations.
She does not open herself up to Bill like she had Melissa, nor does she attempt to soothe his concerns or put him at ease like she does with Maggie or Mulder; instead, she immediately raises her guard to create emotional distance. It’s an unmistakable sign that they're not very close, despite mutual love and affectionate memories. Bill is the big Navy brother she proudly embraces every few years off his ship, not the person she confesses to about her The Blessing Way chip or Wetwired paranoia or Memento Mori diagnosis. As such, she keeps her personal life away from his opinions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bill watches this transformation; and tries to push past these boundaries, tries to find a way to open her up. It’s an aspect of their relationship he will overcompensate for in A Christmas Carol; but for now, the reality that she hid incurable cancer from him for months, possibly until her final breath, is more than enough to fuel his building anger.
It is an unfair position Scully has placed him in; but while Bill begins his interrogation fairly, he allows his pain to devolve a conversation about accountability into finger-pointing accusations.
**Note**: I recommend this meta piece by @agirlcallednarelle (which I forgot to include in my first draft): it beautifully deconstructs the exact similarities between both siblings-- particularly, how Scully learned and evolved from her initial beliefs while Bill has yet to do so.
“I know about your cancer.” His lips tighten, his eyes redden, and he swallows again.
Tumblr media
Scully half-blinks, a crack in her determined resolution. Steeling herself, she admits, “I told Mom not to tell you.”
Bill’s pain begins to switch to anger at her unapologetic admission. “Why?”
Scully exhales again, tilting her head up higher as she pulls her thoughts together, preparing to put them into words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Because it’s very personal,” she states, face hard, emotions impenetrable.
Bill’s head snaps up as if struck, dewy tears vanishing in an instant at the realization that she’d chosen to cut him out of that aspect of her life because of an-- as he sees it-- excuse.
Scully studies his expression, having read his tears and softened voice as confirmation she’d made the right decision. That he’s already given her up for dead. “Because I don’t want sympathy.”
Tumblr media
But here the tables turn completely turn: Bill divines her best kept secret, dragging it out of the shadows and into the garish, unrelenting light of reality, shaking his head at her as he does so: “You think you can cure yourself.”
Scully hunches up tightly: stung at Bill’s pitying accusation-- still more stung at her inability to deny it, even to herself.
For all her words about “my dying wish”, Scully has not yet accepted her death; nor has she given up, deep down, on life. Every bone Mulder or the work throws her, she snatches and guiltily buries away, greedily planning to gnaw over later when prying eyes have vanished. She mingled at her mother’s family party, denied a need to tell Bill or Charlie about her diagnosis, and brushed off her injuries at work with “luckily” all because she hasn’t allowed herself to fully take in, acknowledge, and feel the gravity of her situation. Not yet, anyway.
The evidence is before her; but which truth will she believe?
Tumblr media
“Mom tells me that--” Bill begins; and Scully lowers her head completely, knowing her mother well enough to know the jig is fully up, “--that you’ve gotten worse. That your cancer’s gone into your bloodstream.”
She forces herself back into an upright position, gulping air as Bill lays out the unavoidable facts. Her reactions say it all: she’s logiced her way through a death sentence-- taking the doctor’s report and relaying it to Maggie as clinically as possible-- without dwelling on or taking it in. Playing a part at her mother’s party only to run off to Mulder’s side, playing a part at Mulder’s side only to chase after answers at work, playing a part before her brother only to explode when applied with the right pressure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When his sister still doesn’t respond, Bill utters in disbelief, “What are you doing at work getting knocked down and beaten up? What are you--” he finishes, anger manifesting at last, “--trying to prove? That you’re going to go out fighting?”
He’s right: Scully is trying to prove something. And to all outward appearances, it does appear as if Scully would be more willing to die on the battlefield than admit her weaknesses to her family, that she is shunning their support and love in order to uphold an impossible, ideal woman that ditched medical school and devoted her life to a calling in the federal government. To Bill specifically, his sister seems more willing to stick it out unto death than admit she was wrong or anything less than perfect because of “other fathers.” And while he most certainly doesn’t know about her instinctual draw to rebellion, he is aware of the familial split over Dana’s choice to leave medicine-- a fact he does not bring up canonically (other than a cruel deleted scene in Memento Mori, post here) but which couldn’t have slipped his notice. Without hearing her proclamation in the first of many hallways (“I have things to prove… but for my own reasons”), his perspective is bound to be warped by pain and anger, and fueled by the strain Scully’s reticence has put their mother under. Not to mention the tiny window of time he assumes the family have together before death claims this sister, too.
Tumblr media
“Oh, now, come on, Bill,” Scully starts before being startled out of her rebuttal by Bill loudly thwacking her clothes aside.
He advances, furious at her minimization and unwilling to hear a second of her excuses. Slapping her upside the head with brutal reality-- the same she gives Mulder later this episode-- he says, “You know what Mom is going through?”
It’s the type of criticism that freezes Scully’s Starbuck complex in its tracks, causing her to doubt herself and leading her to reexamine her approach (and confront her failures in Redux II.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her walls are down as Bill rhetorically asserts, “Why do you think I didn’t tell her when they called?”
“What should I be doing?” Scully exclaims, his statements hitting upon the exact questions she’s been asking herself, the ones she’s been avoiding answering because they don’t seem to be a right answer.
Tumblr media
“We have a responsibility--” Bill insists, the mantra that takes him out to sea and brings him home again, “--not just to ourselves, but to the people in our lives.”
His truths, however Billian, are hitting too close to home to the naggings on her own conscience; and Scully accidentally reveals how close in her attempts to deflect them. “Hey, look, just, just because I haven’t bared my soul to you or, or to Father McCue or to God--” a reflection of the “other fathers” in Scully’s life, “--it doesn’t mean I’m not responsible to what’s important to me.” She ends with her declaration with a plea, a little hook to snag validation or acceptance from her prosecutor.
Tumblr media
“To what? To who?” Bill snaps, his and his mother’s wounded sensibilities weighed against her undisclosed cancer, phone call, and ditch. “This guy Mulder? But where is he, Dana? Where is he through all this?”
Bill knows it’s Mulder, not the work, that is “luring” Scully away from her family, whether it be from Maggie’s descriptions when she relayed Dana’s diagnosis or his follow up questions after Scully took Mulder’s call and left. There is no disguise in his language: “where is he through all this” draws blatant lines between Scully's newly placed loyalty and love; and this combined with Mulder's actions in Redux II-- bringing “work” to her deathbed and “manipulating” her into sticking sci-fi tech in the back of her neck-- creates the storm of vitriol Bill unleashes two episodes from now.
Scully gapes as her argument with Mulder over his quest, the existence of God, and proof comes rushing back to her. Her brother’s eyes drill into hers, demanding the decency of a straight answer... but she has none. Mulder isn’t here because he doesn’t know, because she hasn’t told him; but if she had told him, if he did know, would Mulder be here? Will her death be swallowed up in his pursuit for answers?
She looks down, silent; away, silent; and Bill waits, sensing his sister is on the cusp of a decision.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, it boils down to a matter of faith.
Scully believes Bill loves her and wants the best for her; but she doesn’t trust him like Mulder or her mother, nor does she confide in him like Melissa. They may push and prod-- or, in Melissa’s case, shove-- her for answers, for due-diligence introspection, for truths she's too afraid to face; but she trusts they trust her abilities, her decisions, her. Bill struck home with “a responsibility… to the people in our lives” because it is a truth they both act on; but she cannot share a greater one-- one that is wrapped up in her fears, her hopes, her wishes, her passions, her drive, her source of strength-- without sharing Mulder, too. And what is there to share of Mulder? Since Demons, since Gethsemane, Scully isn’t sure.
She turns aside, swallows, garbs her spare clothes, whispers, “Thank you for coming”, and rushes into the bathroom before Bill can question her further.
He fruitlessly calls, “Dana…” after her, watching his little sister slip away with regret.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CONCLUSION
The set up, really, for more drama in Redux II.
Thanks for reading~
Enjoy!

Even though Loki isn't about romance (and it shouldn't be, I agree with Tom there), it doesn't mean the possibility of future romance can't be baked into the story (I would argue most coming-of-age/self-discovery stories work this way). Especially since it's fundamentally a story about someone being changed/revealed by love. Loki gradually falling in love with Mobius as he falls out of love with himself, and then not realizing that's what's happening until right before he has to give everything up, makes complete narrative sense, and works within the context of the story. It's the last kind of love that Loki experiences and certainly not to most foundational to his development but it's there nonetheless.
Additionally, I think the idea that a romantic relationship between Loki and Mobius would somehow sully their friendship is based in the homophobic notion that all mlm relationships are only sexual in nature. Like, if Loki and Mobius want to fuck or kiss each other, then that's all they could want, it's not possible for them to want that and want to be close to each other in the way that they are now (but with even more vulnerability and more caring). Again, I point to Chandler and Monica or Mulder and Scully and ask why Lokius wouldn't be like those pairings if they got together.

If my comfort characters were in a Saw Trap
Ethan Winters
Tumblr media
He would be pissed at first but then ready to get out of the trap, and if it’s by losing another limb then so be it! He can just attach it back! He wouldn’t know why he went into the Saw Trap, he would probably think it was due to the amount of people that he’s killed.
Rumplestiltskin
Tumblr media
With Powers: He would already be out
Without Powers: He would probably cry, maybe ask to be let out, maybe cry some more but he would then use his intelligence to get out, or succumb to whatever happens due to him giving up, whatever hits him first
He wouldn’t be surprised in being in a Saw Trap. He knows he has done some messed up stuff and that was why he was targeted.
Nathan Drake
Tumblr media
He would treat it like a puzzle and he would get out of it. He would be making jokes along the way to ease himself but he would be somewhat freaked out. OR Nathan Break would strike and the trap would just break if he tried to attempt to get out of it. He would assume it was the mass murder or stealing or destruction of property that got him in the Saw Trap.
Dirk Gently
Tumblr media
He would accept it as the universe putting him in that situation, though he wouldn’t take being by himself too well and would begin rambling. He would get injured trying to get out, but he would survive and then end up in some complicated case that needs solving! He would be confused why he was in a Saw Trap, he would just assume it was something the universe wanted him to be there.
Fox Mulder
Tumblr media
At first he would think it was the government or aliens but would calm down (somewhat) when he learns it is a Saw Trap. He will end up getting out just as Sully arrives and she would help him. He would just assume he was in the Saw Trap for something mundane he has done (because if he knows about Jigsaw due to being an FBI agent he would KNOW that he sometimes took people just because they were rude like one time)
Alan Wake
Tumblr media
He would think it was part of the Dark Place and try to get out. He would probably be silent due to internal dialogue narration and probably mutter to himself at times. He would get out mostly unscathed, though he would probably be more happy that he’s out of the Dark Place than to be relieved that he survived a Saw Trap. He would assume it was the story that brought him into the Trap, but if he had to assume he would assume it was because he was an alcoholic with destructive tendencies or something like that.
Matt Murdock
Tumblr media
He would probably assess the situation, use his abilities to see what’s in the vicinity of him. As for solving it, if he has to break bones to get out, so be it, he has had broken ribs and still fought a group of bad guys just to save a little boy, so given the option of hurting himself to escape he would not only do it but do it with no hesitation due to his INSANE PAIN TOLERANCE!! He would probably assume he was in a Saw Trap because he beat up bad guys.

How would Mulder and Scully do on an international case of chasing an Xfile? I would have liked to have seen them travel and have some Indiana Jones adventure. Mulder would alienate other cultures with his behavior, end up in a foreign prison, and then Scully coming in to save him.
He would probably fall down some hole and Sully would have to repel herself down and bandage him up, fix a broken leg, of course run her hand through his dirty and greasy hair, in just enough time to escape the ensuing fire that Mulder deathly fears.
He wouldn't be able to just walk away from her in a foreign country because he couldn't risk losing her, literally, or to a hot, sexy and charming Italian police hunk. His jealousy would kill him.
Even in their old ages, Gillian and David could come back and have an international Xfile as Mulder and Scully. She would need an airtag on him to keep track of where he may wander, but they could find where the new syndicate has set up headquarters that now comprises several countries and an alien chief (maybe William). He has the alien DNA, the smarts and wits of his his parents, Mulder and Scully, and the powerful connection to CSM who he deceiving is told is his father (yeah right).
I would have loved to see them solve something internationally too. They did go to Norway once!
Would they put him in jail? Guess it depends on where they are. They don't need to leave the continent for him to fall down a hole 😄 but Scully will always bandage him up.
The reason he wouldn't ditch Scully is that she speaks several languages. They totally could still travel somewhere. Why not England! I could see the new syndicate work from there. Or Switzerland.

Let's see...
1. Tiger & Bunny - current obsession (as in, nearly 2 years on now and still going strong), an amazing mixture of genres that hits the spot incredibly well for me, contains my utmost Blorbos Nathan and Keith and OTP FireSky, but pretty much every single character is absolutely fantastic and will at some point surprise you.
2. Yuri!!! On Ice - my favorite, my comfort watch, a watershed in my anime history, possibly the best soundtrack of any show I know, amazing characters, figure skating, and an actual plot twist?!? Amazing.
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation - I grew up with it and I think it shaped a lot of my views on morality, ethics and what it means to be human (Data, my beloved, my first Blorbo, decades before the word Blorbo was a thing 🥹).
5. The X-Files - You can't see this show at 13 and not receive some kind of brainrot, lol. Mostly it was related to madly shipping Mulder and Sully before I could even fully realize how freaking WILD they were being about each other; but there's also something to be said about spending your teenage years waiting for the reveal of THE TRUTH THAT WAS OUT THERE, only to then realize absolutely no one EVER had any idea where they were going with the mythology of the show in the first place.
5. Sailor Moon - You can't see Haruka Tenou at 13 and end up straight.
6. Supernatural - but for all that is holy, don't actually watch it. Just know that I did, all the way through, from when it first started airing in 2005 to when it ended (?) in absolute MADNESS in November 2020, and I received about 372639446827483 d10s of psychic damage from it.
7. Stargate Atlantis - Look at John Sheppard. Examine his amazing technicolor allergy to even the most minute and remote trace of emotional communication. Know that I had a MASSIVE crush on him. Realize why my long term relationship did not end well.
8. Anime Sanjushi - Okay, maybe three other people have ever even heard of this one (like, on Tumblr as a whole), but the way it made Dumas's novel so cool and easily palatable to little kid me, with a great mix of action and humor and nice feelings, and most of all giving me the absolute gift of that version of Aramis is just... Chef's kiss. Another deep childhood influence on me.
I've already tagged people in stuff today, and I don't want to spam anyone's notifications, so: if you see this and want to play, consider yourself tagged! 💙💙💙
