Imagine, for a second, you are Sulaiman Dawood.

You and your father are extremely close. You have talked for hours about history and have gone on many vacations to see historical sites. You know that he is extremely busy as a businessman and one of the richest men in the world. But each time you get to bond over a cool history fact is one memory that you know you'll be able to cherish.

Imagine, your father is asking you about the Titanic one day. Like most teenagers, you have gone through a titanic phase and find the whole thing really fascinating. You've watched the movie, seen the documentaries, and read multiple books. Your father says that he has found a company that could take you up close and personal with the ship in a submarine.

Honestly, the thought of going miles under the sea freaks you out. But your father seems to think it's safe, so you trust him.

Imagine the day that you fly out to Newfoundland and get on a boat to sail out to the wreckage. You're a bit nervous but still excited. That is until you see the submarine. It's tiny, cramped, and has very little light. The CEO says that everything is completely safe. Your father tells you it will be fine. You really don't want to go, but the trip is happening on Father's day, and you really really don't want to disappoint your dad then. Plus, what kind of a son would you be if you made your father forfeit hundreds of thousands of dollars? Sure, it's peanuts compared to his wealth, but it's the principle of the thing.

So you get in, the crew seals you in from the outside, and you feel the submersible hit the water. Almost immediately, it starts sinking. Within minutes, the outside window is completely dark and the only lighting is from inside the submersible. It's also really sweaty because you're sharing the space with four other old men, and the smell is not the greatest.

But after an hour and some change, you notice that the CEO, the one captaining the boat, is acting a little strange. You keep your mouth shut, but what little controls there are are acting strange. Finally, he turns around and apologizes, saying that there is an issue with the submersible, that you are sinking too fast and the weight was not properly calibrated. Not to worry, he says, we'll just head back up and try again tomorrow.

But you notice the rest of the crew seems to be a bit nervous as well. The CEO is cursing under his breath and he says that he's released the sandbags, but you're not going up fast enough. You turn to your father and start to ask him a question, but before you can even comprehend it, the submersible has imploded within the space of 0.15 seconds. The inside of the sub briefly reaches temperatures that rival the surface of the sun. Your blood boils, your eardrums explode, and your body is so thoroughly disintegrated that not even cells will survive. But even if you had survived the implosion, the pressure certainly will. With over six thousand pounds per square inch, there is no chance that you will even have time to comprehend that you are underwater before your death.

This is not a sympathetic post towards the billionaires and everyone who knew the risks. This is a post about the son, who very well might have grown up to do good or to continue his father's empire and make the world worse. But we won't ever know, and I am going to be forever upset at the father who clearly thought he was invulnerable and who took the chance that his son would be too.

Eat the rich. Fuck billionaires. But this kid did not deserve this awful, untimely death. The rest of them can rot in hell for all I care. But he had a short life and didn't deserve to go out in that way.

A desperate search mission involving a remotely operated vehicle is under way to rescue a Titanic tourist submersible which has vanished 12,500ft below the Atlantic Ocean with less than 70 hours of air left.

The Coast Guard will hold a press conference at 1pm on today (20/06/23) as the search continues for the missing submersible that vanished on Sunday. Canadian research vessel Polar Prince lost contact with their submersible during a dive to see the Titanic wreck, approximately 900 miles east of Cape Cod.

15:17: Titanic diver fears missing OceanGate sub imploded 10,000 feet underwater

An experienced diver who has traveled far into the depths of the ocean to view the Titanic wreckage fears the submersible that vanished on Sunday may have imploded thousands of feet underwater. G. Michael Harris, who said he possibly knows three of the five occupants on board the missing sub. He is not optimistic they will be rescued and believes there is nothing the U.S. Navy can do.

'Worst situation is something happened to the hull and our fear is that it imploded at around 3,200 meters,' (10,000 feet) Harris said.

At those depths, the weight of the water would exert extreme pressure on the missing submersible - around 6,000 pounds on each square inch of its hull.

An implosion would mean any hope is already long gone. If any part of the submersible's carbon-fiber and titanium hull had suffered a small crack or fault, a deadly implosion would have followed after.

'When you're talking 6,000 pounds per square inch, it is a dangerous environment. More people have been to outer-space than to this depth of the ocean. When you're diving in these situations you have to cross your T and dot your Is. You have to do everything absolutely perfect and by the book.'

The search continues for the sub with five people on board, who are now cut off from the world in claustrophobic conditions. Thanks to previous reports on the Titan's deep-sea missions, we have a clear idea of what it is like for those trapped inside the submarine, where time is running out. In addition to the dwindling 96-hour oxygen supply, the passengers could also be facing increasingly cold conditions, and could suffer from hypothermia.

There are also no seats and only one toilet - a small black box - with a black curtain drawn across for privacy. All passengers are barefoot and must sit on the floor.

Assuming that the vessel is still intact, they currently have no communication to the outside world, and so no knowledge if and when anyone will reach them.

A desperate search mission involving a remotely operated vehicle is under way to rescue a Titanic tourist submersible which has vanished 12,500ft below the Atlantic Ocean with around 70 hours of air left.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, said the OceanGate Expeditions vessel carrying five passengers, including British billionaire Hamish Harding, went missing at around 9.13pm on Sunday, about 435 miles (700 kilometres) south of St. John's, Newfoundland.

If they can be found, the operation would be 11,000ft deeper than the deepest successful undersea rescue in history - when British engineers Roger Mallinson and Roger Chapman survived after their submersible Pisces III was trapped on the seabed at a depth of 1,575ft off the south-west coast of Ireland in 1973.

Sky News is reporting that the Ministry of Defence has released a statement, saying 'they are monitoring the incident but the depths of water greatly exceed those at which the Nato submarine rescue system can safely operate'.

A friend of the British billionaire trapped inside a submarine missing on a voyage to the Titanic wreck has revealed the last text he was sent one day before heading out.

I've had this in my asks for a while now, because I sort of wanted to leave it until it wasn't the very first thing in the news. I don't find the glee with which the online Left meets the horrific death of various very rich people to be politically productive (It's not a win or something that we caused happen, so it doesn't in any way show our strength as a movement, and the death of capitalists won't stop capitalism, the impersonal domination of capital), or at all personally relatable or charming. In reading about the missing sub out of a (probably doomed) hope for good news, I’ve found that many articles talk about/include photos of the 5 people inside, and photos of Shahzada Dawood remind me of Twoflower. I know that he doesn’t exactly match the descriptions of Twoflower, but there’s something to his smile that makes me think of the amiable Agatean tourist. Also, anyone who’s read a book with Twoflower in it would know that this is the kind of thing he’d do. Then I found this article:

Anyways, obviously number 1 is Stockton Rush. That pic isn’t great but he’s giving me President Oaks and I have daddy issues.

Just letting you know that on the list sub it’s 3 billionaires, one of which is the ceo that owns the sub, the 19 yo son of one of the billionaires and a deep sea explorer. There are no researchers bc it’s not a research expedition.

As more info came out, I've learned a lot about the situation, yeah.

Hamish Harding is a british billionaire and pilot. Shahzada Dawood is a Pakistani billionaire, Sulaiman Dawood is his 19 y/o son. Paul-Henri Nargeolet is a French diver and explorer, one who used to be head of Michigan State University's Center for Maritime & Underwater Resource Management, has worked on films about the Titanic and is a historian of the Titanic. Stockton Rush is a millionaire and CEO of OceanGate, the company that owns the missing submersible and launched this expedition. My thoughts and such still stand, it doesn't matter who these people are, their lives are in danger and the fact that media outlets have gone so far as to treat this as some spectacle (to the point of some putting an 'oxygen run out in X hours' countdown over all of their other news) is despicable and inhumane.

I think it's vile that folks are pointing and laughing at the 'billionaires' when it doesn't matter how much money they paid.

OceanGate has been called a financial scam by two folks who didn't get their money back when their trip was cancelled.

OceanGate was called out many times by employees who spoke out about the safety issues of the vessels (one of which who was fired for doing so).

Other companies in the industry also called out OceanGate's low standards.

OceanGate has admitted that the submersible that is missing presently, Titan, is not 'classed' and therefore does not need to meet safety requirements and standards for groups mitigating industry standards. They claim that "by itself, classing is not sufficient to ensure safety." and would rather focus on ensuring "operators adhere to proper operating procedures and decision-making processes – two areas that are much more important for mitigating risks at sea."

Oddly enough, it was found that their website said "You do not need any previous [diving] experience!" and "You will learn everything you need to know for your dive onboard the expedition vessel, and we will help you prepare for the expedition before you join us on the ship."

OceanGate also lied about partnering with both Boeing and the University of Washington to create, design, test, and engineer the Titan (the current missing submersible.)

Experts stated as far back as 2018 that the submersible was not ready to be launched on expeditions.

In a CBS interview with journalist David Pogue, the OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush said "You know, at some point, safety is just pure waste. I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed, don't get in your car, don't do anything. At some point, you're going to take some risk, and it really is a risk-reward question."

That same journalist (David Pogue) was invited to dive with OceanGate during the summer of 2022, and he stated on twitter that the sub "does not have any kind of beacon like that." (In reference to someone asking if the sub had an emergency beacon of some kind) and that the sub "did indeed get lost for about 5 hours". He was not present on the sub at the time, but on a ship at the surface and during the event he claimed "they shut off the ship’s internet to prevent us from tweeting."

The fact of the matter is, in my humble opinion: a company and their CEO took money from 4 innocent people and brought them down in submersible that had been stated by employees and other companies in the industry to be dangerous. It does not matter how much money a ticket was, it does not matter how much money these people have. What matters is that due to a company's negligence and continual ignoring of safety standards and people calling them out, people are likely going to die.

As of right now, a banging noise has been detected near where the submersible went missing. The air supply is likely going to run out early Thursday morning. I hope they find these people alive.

People need to stop thinking this is some 'burn the rich' gotcha moment. The issue here is "why was a company allowed to get away with such little care for safety and so many issues on their expeditions?" No company should be able to get away with this shit. I don't care if those tickets cost $250,000 or $25. No one deserves to die.

The second people start making excuses for why one person's life is worth more than another is the second they've lost me. Anyone advocating for the death of another human being is despicable. You want to burn the rich? Vote and support more taxes on the rich. Start talking and supporting your neighbors and those in need. You want to fight capitalism at it's source? The source is around you. Start talking to people. Start advocating for equal treatment of your peers. And start thinking about how many corporations get away with shit like OceanGate has that hasn't been called out yet because tragedy hasn't struck.

As a Muslim, I tried to shake up and wake up the sleeping poor and rich people of Pakistan from their deep slumber under the order of Amr bil Ma’roof and Nahi ‘an-il-Munkar.

Ahmad narrated on the authority of ‘Ata’ Ibn As-Sa’ib, who reported on the authority of Anas that he said, “Stand close together in the ranks (in prayer), because Satan stands in the spaces.” Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri that he said: The Messenger of Allah said, “If somebody intends to pass in front of you while you are praying, prevent him; should he insist, prevent him again; if he insists again, fight with him (i.e. prevent him violently e.g. by pushing him violently), because such a person is (like) a devil.” Imam Ahmad narrated on the authority of Abu Sa‘eed Al- Khudri that the Messenger of Allah stood up to offer the Fajr prayer and he (Abu Sa‘eed) was standing behind him. He recited and became confused in his recitation. When the prayer was over, he said, “If only you could have seen me and Iblees I grabbed him and kept on trying to strangle him until I felt the coldness of his saliva on these two fingers, the thumb and the one next to it. (Soorah Luqman 31:33) He, Most High, says, Surely, Shaitan is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire. (Soorah Fatir 35:6) So Satan spares no effort to hinder and confuse a person in all of his affairs, all of his activities and all of his inactive moments, as Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Ad- Dunya wrote in his book entitled: Masa’id Ash- Shaitan (The Afflictions of Satan); and in it are numerous benefits. In the Sunan of Abu Dawood, it is reported that the Messenger of Allah used to say in his supplication, “I seek refuge with You from Satan’s attempts to struggle with me, play with me and corrupt my religion and my mind at the time of death.” At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa’i, Ibn Hibban (in his Saheeh) and Ibn Abi Hatim (in his Tafseer) narrated on the authority of ‘Abdullah Ibn Mas‘ood that he said: The Messenger of Allah said, “Verily, Satan has an effect on the son of Adam, and the angel also has an effect. As for the effect of Satan, it is by his threatening him with evil repercussions and rejecting the truth. As for the effect of the angel, it is by his promise of a good end and believing in the truth. Whoever finds the latter, let him know that it comes from Allah and let him thank Allah for it. Whoever finds the former, let him seek refuge (with Allah) from Satan.” Then he recited, Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit fahsha’ (sins, immorality, lewdness etc.); whereas Allah promises you forgiveness from Himself and bounty, and Allah is All-Sufficient for His creations’ need, All-Knower.
