A Scottish Arts Council funded project for Architect, Artist and Engineer to collaborate in making a structure for the island of Tiree. Located near to the pier, the structure is intended to act as a ‘shelter’ whilst waiting for the ferry. It is hoped that it will reflect some of the qualities of the island, the big sky and horizon, the white beaches, the monochromatic black houses dotted over the land -all distilled as a line in the landscape.

The building is experienced as a 3-part spatial sequence:

The White Walls; open to the sky but sheltered from the wind.

The Bridge; protected from the weather, closed to the sky and the horizon but open to the rock and sand of the beach below.

The Glass Box ; a complete panorama, looking out along Gott Bay and beyond.

Kaleidoscope of the Senses by Charlie Sutherland of SUHUHA Edinburgh, United Kingdom by A Great Capture Kaleidoscope of the Senses re-purposes the existing lifeguard chair, bringing together a balanced yet dynamic composition of elements which are both a visual and experiential celebration of the senses and a metaphor of the body in space. An open bell tower structure creates clanking metal sounds in the wind, while a diagonal black chimney draws up the aromas of oils set into the beach sand at its base. A horizontal white extrusion reflects the expansive horizon, framing a view of the water and back to the city. This is all underscored by a lateral red beam, establishing a tactile bench within the structure, the only point of physical contact with the observer. The Winter Station (2020 ) installation is a scalable tower by Charlie Sutherland of Edinburgh architecture studio Sutherland Hussey Harris (SUHUHA). Called Kaleidoscope of the Senses, the geometric pavilion is based on an open bell tower that creates noisy sounds in the wind.
