Natural Sweetening with Sugarcane Powder: A Healthier Alternative
In the quest for healthier eating habits, many people are turning to natural sweeteners as a substitute for refined sugar. Sugarcane powder is gaining popularity for its ability to provide sweetness along with added nutritional benefits. This natural product is not only versatile in its applications but also a healthier alternative that can be easily incorporated into various foods and beverages.
What is Sugarcane Powder?
Sugarcane powder is derived from the juice of the sugarcane plant. The juice is extracted, evaporated, and then finely ground into a powder. Unlike refined sugar, which undergoes extensive processing and loses many of its natural nutrients, sugarcane powder retains much of its original nutritional content. This makes it a more wholesome option for those looking to reduce their intake of refined sugars.
Health Benefits of Sugarcane Powder
One of the key advantages of sugarcane powder is its nutritional profile. It contains essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron. These minerals play vital roles in maintaining healthy bodily functions, including bone health, muscle function, and oxygen transport in the blood. Additionally, sugarcane powder is a source of antioxidants, which help protect the body from oxidative stress and inflammation.
Sugarcane powder also retains vitamins that are often lost in the refining process of regular sugar. It provides a variety of B vitamins, including B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6, which are crucial for energy metabolism and overall health. The presence of vitamin C in sugarcane powder can help boost the immune system and support skin health.
Using Sugarcane Powder as a Sweetener
Sugarcane powder can be used in place of traditional sugar in almost any recipe. Here are some common applications:
Beverages: Add sugarcane powder to your tea, coffee, smoothies, or any other drinks that require a touch of sweetness. It dissolves easily and blends well, providing a natural and pleasant taste.
Baking: Replace granulated sugar with sugarcane powder in your baking recipes. It works well in cakes, cookies, muffins, and bread, giving them a subtle sweetness and enhancing the flavor.
Cooking: Use sugarcane powder in savory dishes that require a hint of sweetness. It can be added to sauces, marinades, and dressings to balance flavors and add depth to your culinary creations.
Snacks: Sprinkle sugarcane powder over fruits, yogurt, or cereals for a quick and healthy snack. It can also be used to sweeten homemade granola or energy bars.

still thinking about that post explaining if your food doesn't taste right it's probably missing some basic seasoning, element or spice and there was some american going "op you forgot molasses" and i just had to sit there thinking about the sugarcane industry and colonialism and so on and how it influenced the cuisine of north america and the carribean and all the history that lead to someone considering molasses on the same level as salt, pepper or stock powder.
obviously not something I'm actually annoyed at it was just surreal, kinda like the US and their obsession with buttermilk.

Greetings and fair winds to you, friend.
Regarding the alcohol business:
Ever grateful,
Loyal Wing Sophia Abramowitz, callsign "Blazing Sun", of Makteba Karda. (@semi-loyal-wing )
oh, you folks! I heard there was another Albatross branch out there somewhere - nice to finally hear from y'all. now I know y'all asked for a lot, but I also have a bar to help stock in a different order, so while this won't be everything, it'll still be a good chunk of it
hope y'all have enough space to store all of this...
- 5 bottles gin
- 5 bottles whiskey
- 2 bottles rum
- 12 bottles (1 case) beer (this one is marked "Dead Pony Club Pale Ale" - label says it should have a mix of citrus flavors)
- 7 bottles commercial mead
- 4 bottles everclear
- 2 bottles absinthe
- 5 bottles coffee liquor
- 6 bottles assorted schnapps (these ones are banana, apricot, peppermint, cinnamon, strawberry, and watermelon)
- 10 bottles wine (there's a whole mix of shit in here - do be warned, I think I accidentally packed a bottle of the stuff that matured into vinegar when organizing these, so drink with caution!)
- 12 bottles (1 case) homebrew mead
- 7 bottles homebrew moonshine
- 5 bottles sake
- 12 bottles (1 case) kvass
- 12 bottles (1 case) perry (pear cider)
- 2 bottles palm wine
- 12 bottles (1 case) ginger beer
- 3 bottles cachaça (this is made from distilled sugarcane; think of it as being semi-related to rum)
- 4 bottles applejack
- 4 bottles scotch
- 6 bottles bourbon
- 1 bottle champagne (hopefully this doesn't explode in transit...)
- 12 bottles (1 case) "Armory Reserve Black Powder IPA"
- 4 bottles assorted "KTB Royal Distilleries" liquor (this seems like a mix of various spirits from across KTB space; the labeling is sparse on what everything actually is, so drink with caution)
- 5 bottles "CMC G.W." grain alcohol (apparently this stuff is meant for molotovs rather than drinking, but whatever)
enjoy this frankly ridiculous shipment of booze; the hangar already feels a lot roomier now that all of this is gone. still got a lot to go, though... ah well. MSMC sends its regards to Makteba Karda!

What is the drink of choice for your OCs? (does not have to be alcoholic. Could just be iced coffee or whatever)
Ehehe this reminds me of the drink ask- I'll link it here.
Everyone has different tastes and thoughts behind their drinks of choice, so it was really fun to write this...
Sera:
Coffee! She has a large dependence on caffeine and will prefer coffee to energy drinks in most occasions. Nate can tell how fucked up her sleep schedule is going to be by counting the discarded filters. "I'll join you later Liebe, I just need to wrap this up." She said, before coming to bed at 3 AM to sleep for one hour and thirty minutes.
Nate:
Supra-Melatonin Tea. He's an insomniac who has trouble falling asleep- especially when hearing everyone's thoughts blare like white noise 24/7. When he's not trying to pass out he's drinking whatever green health sludge he's made using his juice extractor. "It's got 11 superfoods, including quinoa and cilantro!" We believe you, Nate.
Sonia:
Any kind of fruity cocktail. She's also a sucker for a good punch, even though she cannot get drunk anymore. She also likes to mix and match whatever is in stock for fun, then get the crew to test out her inventions. "Oh this? I call it Blood on the Beach. Try it." There's a 60% chance it's tasty and a 40% chance you're getting very drunk after.
Vincent:
Grapefruit Juice. He likes it- it's not too sweet, kind of sour, and it makes his stomach feel nice after. Refreshing. He's not going to complain if he has to drink something else, though. Other favorites are: tap water, unsweetened limeade, Seltzer, and hard vodka. "It's digestible if it's not poison." Okay Vincent.
Amon:
Asab (Sugarcane Juice) is his favorite... His mother used to find a way to make it on special occasions, but sugarcane isn't found often, less so now. He'll settle for a nicely sweetened lemonade with wedges in it, or just beer. He's a fan of summery drinks! "I gotta find a way to make that here..." It's a taste of home he misses.
Eric:
Thrush! Soda. He drinks way too much of it. Every time Sera calls him out on his habits, he makes his teeth melt. It's surprisingly graphic. Past that he also likes powdered drink mixes like Cool Aide, energy drinks, and novelty pop- the weirder the better. "Heh- I got a pickle Thrush. Tastes narsty but I can't stop drinking it." Holy hell Eric.
Strohl:
He drinks lots of water and little else. He's got to keep in shape... Sigh... As for what he likes to drink, he has a private selection of bourbon that he keeps in the couch console for particularly special occasions... Or rough days. He cherishes his time to himself, it's practically restorative for him. "There is little to say. I am a deceptively simple man." For such an affluent guy he's pretty dull.
Honorable mentions:
Titan still prefers blood, that's kind of his thing. Rip and tear, then drink from his victims like a freshly cracked coconut. Ew! He gets a free tragedy to watch with his drink too.
Monica liked drinking tea, she didn't really care what kind it was. It's just nice to drink something warm before going out for missions. If only she could actually enjoy it without Sera asking her to stay. Lord above, is she made of velcro? Hayes doesn't remember being like this as a child.
Karin likes drinking expensive bar specials that you'll be paying for. Yours tastes a little funny...
Oh no...

the most common candy flavors in sornieth are herbal and tea-based. tea flowers and petals, insects, and small bits of dried foraged local fruit are common additives suspended in hard candies as well. occasionally even jerky, though most would prefer just have a very sweet piece of honeyed jerky instead.
cane sugar as a sweetener is extremely rare outside of sugarcane's limited native range. instead, most sornieth cooking uses the natural sugars in fruit, honey, even things like beets.
outside of the native range of the cacao tree, the only of it's products that most ever see is an extremely dark cocoa powder, itself pricey and rare, which is more often than not used as a spice and to make several forms of bitter, spiced drinks. while locals in the native growing range of the tree have some more recipes involving the fresh flesh, membrane, rind, and whatnot of the fruit, chocolate, as we understand it, more or less doesn't exist.
meat shaved ice is a thing. you freeze a piece of raw meat. maybe soak it in strong sauces first. and you shave it like ice. it's disgusting if you're not an obligate hypercarnivore. if sornieth has any equivalent to icecream their idea of common flavors is probably quite a bit different from ours.

I decided to finally try out Hardcore Minecraft in Bedrock Edition. I’m going to talk about what happens in the world here-
——
Day 0 (Or Day 1? I dunno)
I spawned into a snowy biome, which immediately made me worried there was powdered snow. Which… would be a short and unfortunate end to a new world. Luckily, there wasn’t any powdered snow, and there was a spruce tree!
I got some wood and sugarcane and set out to look for any animals. I only saw rabbits, which I don’t think is exactly a good source of food. The absence of sheep was concerning, so I went to the Minecraft wiki to see if sheep can spawn in snowy biomes. Seems like they can’t?
I found a ruined portal, which had two golden apples, a golden helmet, and a flint and steel in the chest. I took those items and continued to explore. I found an iceberg area by the time the sun started to set. I might try to pass through it in hopes of finding a warmer biome.

5 alkemia samples
silken tent
first impressions: its a bit disappointing.... smells nice and sweet abit powdery but its extremely similar to a $10 vanilla body spray i got from woolworths.... not worth it so far but ill let it sit for a while.
+after sitting for a while its gorgeous. sweet syrupy golden but not too edible smelling. the angelica adds a soft fuzzy herbal tone that balances the fragrance and cuts through the syrupy texture and keeps it from getting cloying. i cant stop inhaling it. i can smell the candied angelica, rice pudding and caramel the best and the jasmine, tuberose and chrysanthemum are more of a subtle white floral in the background.
★★★★★
aurora
first impressions: stexture eally nice reminds me of those musky perfumes you get from mecca that are by byredo or sum shit... i like it fresh neutral a bit of cardamom and iris.
+the iris is really pretty very buttery and milky not too powdery. i can smell the cardamom, violet, musk clearly and the cashmeran adds a cedar element but i cant detect any ginger. ethereal is a good word to describe it. i was wearing it while watching spirited away the other day and i felt like they were a good match especially soundtracks like a road to somewhere and the beginning of nighttime coming.
★★★★
bohemiens en voyage
first impressions: i put it on tadhg it smells like a hippie perfume but more pleasant and wearable in my opinion. a bit smoky a bit like hay a bit sweet. i tried to smell it again but he had made a smoked salmon croissant and all i could smell was da salmon.
+theres no anise in the notes but the beginning smells like it has a licorice note. i can smell the hay, tobacco and amber in the beginning plus a lowkey background sweetness from the sugarcane which smells crystalised. after about 10 minutes the licorice type note is gone (maybe the tabac leaf?) and i can smell hay, sugarcane and the most gorgeous skin musk. buttery salty creamy is how id describe it which might not sound so appealing but it really is beautiful. this is also a golden coloured fragrance like silken tent but instead of being an amber colour its more of a soft dusty yellow. this scent makes me think of malibu by hole. i think that tobacco hay sugarcane and iris are very kinderwhore themed notes in my mind. my mother said that the opening smells like talcum powder.
★★★★★
the wild atlantic way
first impressions: SOO GOOD..... smells fresh and oceanic and floral and the flowers are like honey-sweet wildflowers this is GOOD ASF..... i like it fr. abit soapy but im still lovin it
+the opening flowers are so sweet and full that they almost smell fruity. they smell bright yellow and juicy and you can really smell the nectar and pollen in them. after ten minutes the flowers arent as juicy but they are still very bright and sweet and you start smelling the salt of the ambergris. slowly the flowers die down and it becomes a slightly floral ambergris perfume. im learning that im a huge fan of yellow florals. i saw someone on reddit say that this fragrance reminds them of a romantic scene in a movie (braveheart is the example they used) and i can see that. to me it calls to mind a scene of green fields bright yellow flowers cliffsides and rough waves. the clouds are thick and covering the whole sky except for one break where the sunlight streams down in rays golden and the bright sunlit landscape is contrasted by the dark grey clouds in the distance and it looks otherworldly. one of my favourite kinds of weathers but yeah i like this scent though i am generally a floral lover.
★★★★★
wings of flame
first impressions: this shit smells delicious like coffee yummy.
+smells edible but not overly sweet. the coffee is almost dessert like and the honey is chewy and amber coloured. it makes sense that the coffee note is described as "golden coffee" because it almost smells a bit like caramel with how rich and deep and sweet it is. i put it on tadhg to see his reaction and he says he loves honey+coffee combinations because its decadent in an ancient way. i can see what he means especially for this fragrance in particular. theres no patchouli in the notes but that was a note my mum picked up on.

Sweetening Foods and Beverages
One of the primary uses of sugarcane powder is as a natural sweetener. It can be sprinkled over cereals, fruits, and desserts, providing a mild, pleasant sweetness without the harsh aftertaste often associated with artificial sweeteners. When added to beverages like coffee, tea, or smoothies, sugarcane powder dissolves easily and enhances the flavor with its natural taste.
Cooking and Baking
In cooking and baking, sugarcane powder can replace granulated sugar in most recipes. Its fine texture ensures even mixing and consistency in doughs and batters. Whether you are baking cakes, cookies, or bread, sugarcane powder can impart a subtle sweetness and contribute to a moist, tender crumb. It’s also great for making sauces, glazes, and marinades, where it can balance flavors and add a touch of sweetness.

Unlike refined sugar, which is stripped of nutrients during processing, sugarcane powder retains essential vitamins and minerals. This makes it a healthier choice for those looking to reduce their intake of refined sugars while still enjoying sweet flavors in their diet.

Packed with essential minerals and vitamins, sugarcane juice powder is a rich source of iron and vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6. It also contains a high concentration of phytonutrients and antioxidants, making it a nutritious option for boosting overall health.
Incorporating Sugarcane Products into Your Diet
Incorporating sugarcane powder and sugarcane juice powder into your diet is easy and beneficial. For a natural energy boost, simply mix the juice powder with water and enjoy. India’s Sugar Industry: Production, Export, and Market Insights
Sugar plays a vital role in the global food processing industry, particularly in baking and confectionery. Among the widely used types are granulated, caster, icing, and jam-setting sugar. With the rapid rise in sugar consumption worldwide, countries like India and Brazil have emerged as leading players in meeting global demand. India, in particular, is a key producer, consumer, and exporter of sugar. This article delves into India’s sugar production, export trends, top exporters, and much more.
India’s Sugar Production: A Key Global Contributor
India boasts the second-largest agro-based sugarcane and sugar industry globally, following cotton. With states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka leading production, India is a powerhouse in sugarcane farming and sugar manufacturing. Uttar Pradesh, in particular, consistently leads with significant contributions to national production.
In the 2023–2024 fiscal year, India produced approximately 34 million metric tonnes of sugar. This production involved over 1,084.57 lakh tonnes of sugarcane processed in 118 mills across Uttar Pradesh. Beyond its economic contributions, the industry supports the livelihoods of rural sugarcane farmers and employs nearly 500,000 workers in sugar mills, generating a gross value-added output of 806 billion INR.
The Economic Impact of India’s Sugar Industry
In 2023, the global industrial sugar market was valued at USD 46.4 billion and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.0%, reaching USD 59.1 billion by 2028. India is a significant contributor to this growth. Domestically, India’s sugar market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.87%, reaching USD 9.791 billion by 2028, with the branded sugar segment alone estimated to hit USD 1.47 billion by 2029.
The increasing demand for processed foods, beverages, and desserts drives the growth of India’s sugar industry. With sugar deeply integrated into Indian and global culinary habits, the demand trajectory appears robust.
India’s Role as a Leading Sugar Exporter
Sugar export from India have witnessed remarkable growth in recent years. In 2023, the country’s sugar export value reached USD 4.32 billion, a significant leap from USD 0.93 billion in 2018. India's share in the global sugar export market also increased from 4.17% in 2018 to 12.21% in 2023.
Favorable agricultural policies and robust production standards fuel India’s position as the second-largest sugar exporter globally. Southeast Asia and Africa are key regions driving demand for Indian sugar.
Sugar Export Trends and Data for 2023–24
Despite India’s success in the export market, the government restricted sugar exports for the 2023–24 marketing year (October–September) to stabilize domestic prices and ensure sufficient local supply. However, exports to the US and European Union under TRQ quotas were exempted from these restrictions.
In the fiscal year 2024, India managed to export 3 million metric tons of sugar, which includes a variety of products such as:
White Crystal Sugar
Brown Sugar
Icing/Fondant Sugar
Organic Sugar
Jaggery (Round and Powder)
Pharmaceutical Sugar
Export Prices of Indian Sugar (2023)
Export prices vary depending on the type of sugar. Below are a few examples:
Icumsa Sugar (Less Than 100): ₹36.50/kg
Palm Jaggery: ₹35/kg
Pure Sugarcane Jaggery: ₹55/kg
S-30 Grade Sugar: ₹32/kg
Major Export Destinations (2022–23)
Indonesia: ₹67.47 billion
Bangladesh: ₹42.68 billion
Sudan: ₹41.99 billion
United Arab Emirates: ₹22.38 billion
Somalia: ₹21.73 billion
Indonesia remains the largest importer of Indian sugar, reflecting the country’s strong trade ties and competitive pricing.

Different types of materials are used to package food in India. Each type of packaging material offers distinct benefits, and understanding these will help you make better choices for your packaging needs.
Plastic is one of India’s most widely used materials for food packaging. It is versatile, lightweight, and offers excellent moisture resistance, making it ideal for products that need to stay fresh for longer. Many food packaging suppliers use plastic due to its low cost and ability to be moulded into different shapes and sizes. Plastics like PET, HDPE, and LDPE are common in food packaging design. However, with the rise of environmental awareness, many businesses seek more sustainable options.
2. Glass is a robust, reusable packaging material famous for packaging sauces, jams, and pickles. It keeps food items fresh without reacting chemically, making it a safe option. Although glass is heavier than other materials, its durability and clarity make it a preferred choice for premium food brands. Many people also see glass as a more sustainable packaging material, as it is 100% recyclable.
3. Paper and paperboard are commonly used for packaging dry foods like biscuits, cereals, and snack bars. They are lightweight, affordable, and easily recyclable, making them popular in sustainable packaging. Paperboard is also customisable, so brands often use it to design attractive packaging.
4. Flexible packaging is an umbrella term for materials like pouches, bags, and wraps, often made from plastic, paper, or aluminium combinations. It is ideal for products like chips, chocolates, and powdered items. Flexible packaging allows food packaging suppliers to create unique shapes and sizes, helping brands stand out.
5. Aluminium foil is popular for packaging food items like snacks, ready-to-eat meals, and even dairy products. It protects food from light, moisture, and air, keeping it fresh for longer. Aluminium foil can be used as a standalone material or laminated with other materials for extra durability. This material is lightweight and easy to recycle, adding to its appeal in sustainable packaging.
Sustainable Packaging Options in India
Consumers have become more conscious about the environment. Many brands are now seeking sustainable alternatives to traditional materials. Sustainable packaging is using materials that have less impact on the environment, either biodegradable or recyclable. Here are some popular packaging sustainable options.
Biodegradable Plastics
Biodegradable plastics break down naturally, unlike traditional plastics. They are made from plant-based materials like corn starch, which makes them a good choice for packaging food while minimising waste. Many food packaging suppliers offer these alternatives as they align with global environmental standards.
Compostable Packaging
Compostable materials go further than biodegradable materials, breaking down into natural elements that nourish the soil. Materials like bagasse (a by-product of sugarcane) and other plant fibres are gaining popularity for packaging food sustainably. Compostable packaging is ideal for single-use products, offering an eco-friendly solution.
Recycled Paper and Cardboard
Recycled paper is another sustainable option widely used in India. Using recycled paper reduces the demand for virgin materials, helping conserve resources. This material is best suited for dry goods and products that don’t require much moisture protection.
Conclusion
Partnering with a reliable food packaging supplier in India is important for quality and consistency in your packaging. Look for suppliers who can meet your specific needs and provide high-quality materials. Finding a supplier who offers sustainable options is also helpful, especially if your brand wants to reduce its environmental footprint. A good supplier like Global Parachem can help you create a packaging product that aligns with your brand values and appeals to your target audience.
