my secret confession is i think a lot of current art in comics is pretty but sometimes way too glossy and lifeless... it kinda feels like a sticker sheet where they just swap out generic stock poses that they have on hand for that character rather than the art being reflective of the actual story and moment the character is currently in
#does this make sense#like its generic 'heres this character with a hand on their hip. this is their idle position. their arms are stiffly raised now to talk.#theyre back to their idle pose (2nd version). heres them suddenly springing to life (aka arms over head as they fly abruptly and stiffly).#they land the exact same way everytime regardless of where theyre at (fist clenched by their sides)'#like it feels like different poses you can alternate between in a dress up game rather than being present in the story#wheres the expressions! the body language! the moment! the way they differently carry themselves!#i know im biased for older styles but :// idk it sometimes feels lifeless in a sense#but im not an artist so. cant complain too much. gorgeous art but it's like you can see where capitalism and demand to be sellable#kills any creative input or fun twist that makes that artist or that arc remarkable and rememberable#but whatever.... 70s and 80s comics save me.....#ransom note

A sort of an extension of a previous piece where I drew my design for Hilda after the two-year timeskip in Ken Sugimori's style.
In that piece I used Biance and Cheren as references to reflect her role as a part of the trio, and this time I used her rival (and lanky-as-hell bf) N as a reference to reflect her role as a long-lost champion 🤍🖤

Ngl, I hate a lot of the odd beef between humanities and STEM majors and I do believe both are equally integral for a society to be functional, but all im saying is I’ve seen a lot more humanities majors flipping their shit (including me) over the absolute disaster that American politics currently is and a lot of the reasoning comes from their major
This doesn’t apply to anything near environmental science majors I see you
#last semester of my history degree and suddenly history just repeats itself is a lot more real than I thought it was#what people get wrong about that statement however is that they think it means the literal same historical events#and while there’s often examples of the same historical events repeating in different eras#the saying more applies to the concept#quickest example I can think of is large distinct separation between rich and poor in a society usually ends in violent Revolution#like that’s something that’s happened so many times but not in the exact same way#but yeah most revolutions are the poor revolting#it happened in ancient times and you see it happening today in a lot of African and some middle eastern countries (although it is happening#in countries all over the world)#my point is everything that’s happening has happened a million times before in different ways but the same concept and it has yet to end#well#the pattern trump is following right now is not new and I doubt his outcome will differ from the million different disasters that have come#from this style of governance#anyway this isn’t to shit on STEM majors I believe their major is harder than humanities and they make a society advanced and comfortable#but from a background of humanities#it’s just a disaster#rae’s rambles
